JANET EMERSON

Janet Lee Emerson, of Liberty, Kentucky, returned to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Stanford Care and Rehab. She was 76.

 

Born on February 10, 1945, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Anna Watson Morgan. Janet retired from United Medical Resources in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She attended Grace Baptist Church in Loveland, Ohio.

 

She is survived by two children, Patricia Hughes Campbell and John (Christy) Hughes; grandchildren, Jennifer, LeighAnn, Abby, and Jacob; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Duane (Barb) Morgan, David (Shirley) Morgan, June (Carl) Coffey, and Teri Hines; and many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings, Faye Wilson, Edward Morgan, Hugh Morgan, Bill Morgan, Ilah Ball, and Linda Harris.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, November 29, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Martin officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

MICHAEL SAPP

Michael Ray Sapp, of Knifley, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the University of Kentucky Hospital. He was 71.

 

Born on January 2, 1950, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Earnie and Willivena Wethington Sapp.

 

Mike graduated from Casey County High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Campbellsville College. In 1969, he began his career in the police force as a radio dispatcher then became an officer with the Campbellsville City Police, followed by the Taylor County Metro Police as a motorcycle officer. He then joined the Kentucky State Police. Mike retired from KSP in 2012 as a Lieutenant Colonel after over thirty-two dedicated years of service. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and motorcycles. He was a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 12, active with KSP Trooper Island, and enjoyed coaching basketball and baseball. Mike also helped to build the Knifley Fire Department where he was a volunteer firefighter.

 

He is survived by his wife, Judy Floyd Sapp of Knifley, who he wed on January 22, 1972; two sons, Michael Ray Sapp of Danville and Matthew Ted (Jessica) Sapp of Danville; two grandsons, Tyler and Austin Sapp; two brothers, Douglas Earnie (Linda) Sapp of Clovis, New Mexico and Coakley Dean (Yvonne) Sapp of Danville; and two sisters, Elizabeth Ann (Quinton) Walls of Martinsville, Indiana and Nancy Lee (Dwight) Dearringer of Casey County.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. EST on Friday, November 26, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. EST on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Jimmy Dale Cox officiating.

 

Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery with rites held by the Kentucky State Police Honor Guard.

 

Pallbearers will be members of the Kentucky State Police.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be his two grandsons, Tyler Sapp and Austin Sapp.

VALLIE MURPHY

Vallie Jean Murphy, age, 84 of Liberty, KY passed away on Wednesday November 24th, 2021, at her residence. She was born November 5th, 1937, in Casey Co., KY, a daughter of the late Ernest Lee Atwood Sr. and Tina Lou Whited Atwood.

 

She was the widow of Lyndon Murphy who passed away on February 26th, 2018.

Vallie Jean was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville and a member of Carr’s Chapel First Church of God.

 

Survivors include: Three Sons: Stanley Lyndon Murphy, Kenneth Eugene Murphy, and Phillip Murphy and (Dana Garrett) all of Liberty, Three Grandchildren: Joshua Lyndon and (Sage) Murphy, Stephanie and (Shawn) Scott and Whitney Murphy Finn and (Rodney) Seven Great-Grandchildren, Close Friend: Rita Rodgers and Caregiver: Regina Richards.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents was her husband was Two Brothers: Ernest Lee Atwood Jr and Kenneth Marvin Atwood and Two Sisters: Ila Maxine Murphy and Veltha Louise Atwood.

 

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. Sunday November 28th, 2021, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

RUSSELL HOCKERSMITH JR

Russell Edwin Hockersmith, Jr., age 73, of Bronston, KY, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at his residence.

 

Russell was born on November 13, 1948 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Russell Hockersmith and Delores Doody.  Russell served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1973 as a Heavy Vehicle Driver earning the National Defense Medal and the Sharpshooters Medal. He retired from Johns Manville in Riverside, CA after 27 years and Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.  Russell enjoyed his annual trips with his sisters and close friend, Joyce Graves.  He was an avid sports fan, and especially loved his Indianapolis Colts.  Russ enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and making everyone laugh.   

 

He is survived by one daughter, Deanna (and Troy) Mihulke of Bronston; two sisters, Nancy Lee Edwards of Bronston and Carolyn Stepp of Bronston; one brother, Kenny (and Marsha) Hockersmith of Greenfield, IN; six nieces and nephews, Dee Dee, Jerry, Sherry, James, Kris and Colleen; several great nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren, Jeffery, Elizabeth, Tanner and Chase residing in Oregon and Joseph, James and Connor of Bronston.

 

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Dee Johnson; and one niece, Shelley Grable.

 

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

 

His funeral service will follow on Tuesday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Tony Hall officiating.  Burial will be at Bronston Cemetery. 

 

Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.  Pallbearers will be James Cookson, Joey Cookson, Connor Cookson, Jeffrey Cookson, Paul Morrow, Adam Morrow, Jerry Stepp and Jerry Lee Stepp.

THELMA JOHNSON

Thelma Ruth McKinney Johnson, daughter of the late Walter Everett and Gracie Ann Baker McKinney, was born in Westchester, Ohio on February 8, 1928 and she departed this life on Thursday, November 18, 2021 having attained the age of 93 years.


She was united in marriage to Mr. Clarence Estes Johnson at East Bernstadt, KY in Laurel County on July 25th, 1942, he preceded her in death. Survivors include; two sons, Bobby Finley Johnson of Science Hill, KY and Larry Johnson and his wife Leslie of Somerset, KY; five grandchildren, Kevin Johnson, Brian Johnson, Jamie Johnson, Sarah Wallace, Samuel Johnson; the following great grandchildren, Zachary and Brittany Thacker, Miranda Johnson, Kolton Johnson, Kaleb Johnson and Kathryn Johnson; one foster son, Jimmy Ray Brown; two sisters, Alma England and Reba Cawood, two sisters-in-law, Ruth and Wyonia McKinney and a host of neices, nephews and other relatives who mourn her passing.

 

Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Don Stanley Johnson; four brothers, George, Charles, Bobby and Raymond McKinney and five sisters, Dorothy McKinney, Mary Ellen McKinney, Ruby McKinney, Opal Inabnitt, and Lillie Waddle.


Mrs. Johnson enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her hobbies included gardening, she also loved friends and church family and attending church services as long as her health would permit. She was a longtime member of the Somerset First Church of the Nazarene.


Before retirement, she worked at the Somerset City Hospital for 2 1/2 years; she then worked as a nurse assistant for 19 years at the office of Dr. R. B. Jasper, then later she worked for more than 30 years as a foster care provider. Of everything she was involved in, she enjoyed doing things for other people the most.


A funeral service for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2021 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Barnesburg Cemetery.


The family of Mrs. Johnson will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. Monday until time for services.

SUSAN WHITAKER

Susan Meece Whitaker, daughter of the late Ed and Mary Snell Meece, was born at Ula, KY on February 10, 1931 and she departed this life on November 18, 2021 having attained the age of 90 years.

 

She was united in marriage to Mr. Welty Eugene Whitaker on August 23, 1949 in Somerset, KY, he survives. Other survivors include; two sons, Gary (and Mary) Whitaker and Jerome (and Judy) Whitaker; one brother, Ronald (and Jean) Meece; three grandchildren, Kerri (and Rick) Peterson, Jerri (and Brad) Begley, Brian (and Stephani Whitaker; one granddaughter-in-law, Sara Whitaker; ten great grandchilldren, Sarah Zabawa, Megan Alexander, Meredith Peterson, Brooke Begley, Adam Begley, Emily Whitaker, Hannah Coomer, Bailey Whitaker, Kylie Whitaker and Grayson Whitaker and four great great grandchildren, Ashlynn Stephens, Riley Zabawa, LaKynn Baber and Kipp Baber.

 

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by; three brothers, Quinton, Clinton and Wendell Meece; one sister, Elizabeth Gardner; one grandson, Quinton Douglas Whitaker and a great great grandson, Henry Coomer.

 

Susan was a member of the Immanuel Baptist church for more than 60 years, she was a kind Christian lady who was active in her church for many years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and leaves a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 24th, 2021 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Randall - Herrin Cemetery with Brad Begley, Adam Begley, Trey Alexander, Rick Peterson, Jared Zabawa, Brian Whitaker and  Austin Coomer acting as pallbearers and Grayson Whitaker as a honorary pallbearer.

REBECCA SWINSON

Rebecca Lynn Swinson, 61, of Science Hill, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

She was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 24, 1960; daughter of the late Clifford Eugene and Marlene (Dees) Getter. She was a stay at home mom, who enjoyed music, dancing around the house, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She had a love for singing, and enjoyed watching Joyce Meyers.

 

She is survived by her boyfriend of seventeen years, Gerald Skeens; children, Jennifer & (Gary) Carter, Larry & (Donna) Winterland, Kristian Isaacs, Randy & (Melissa) Winterland, Amber & (Brad) Swinson, and Wesley Swinson; her siblings, Dennis Getter, Fred Getter, Pam Greer, and Randy Getter; grandchildren, Justin, Joelle, Jaylee, Jolestin, Jacetyn, Jaysa, Riley, Payton, Ava, Charleston, Addison, Alexis, Rylee, Deagan, Baylor, Brayden, and Brianna; great-grandchildren, Everly and Lorelai.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and tow-grandchildren, Brayden Chett Alcorn and Jaysa Kayla Branscum.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home.

 

Burial will be in Eubank Cemetery.

OAKLAND ZADA ROSE HAZELWOOD

Oaklynn Zada Rose Hazelwood, was born onto earth and into heaven on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, daughter of Samantha Smith Hazelwood and Johnny Hazelwood.

 

She is preceded in death by her Paternal grandmother; Pam Hazelwood and Maternal grandfather; Roy Smith and a sister; Daisy Hazelwood.

 

She is survived by her parents; Johnny and Samantha Smith Hazelwood of Bronston, her maternal grandmother; Jill Smith of Bronston, and her siblings; Elizabeth “Ellie” Hazelwood, Brantley Hazelwood, Grayson Hazelwood, Madden Hazelwood and Lincoln Hazelwood, several aunts and uncles, other relatives and friends.

 

There will be no formal services.   

LANDO ADAMS

Lando C. Adams, 80, of Somerset passed away Monday September 27, 2021 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

He was born March 24, 1941 in Squib, Kentucky; son of the late Gene & Mossie (Dugger) Adams. He worked as a heavy equipment operator.

 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley (Whitaker) Adams; a son, Wendell & (Gail) Adams of Somerset; a daughter, Rachel & (Jerry) Manning of London; and a granddaughter, Natalie.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and five sisters.

Virginia Beatrice Black, age, 93 of Yosemite, KY passed away on Friday November 19th, 2021, at her residence. She was born June 29th, 1928, in Casey Co., KY, a daughter of the late Logan and Lydia May Salyers.

 

Virginia was a former seamstress for Cowdens Manufacturing and member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include: Three Sons: Ronald Ray and (Lois) Black of Mt. Washington, Joseph Lee and (Lynette) Black and Dwight Black both of Yosemite, Five Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren, Two Great Great Grandchildren, One Sister: Denola Sims of Crab Orchard, One Niece and One Nephew.

EUGENE LAWSON

Eugene Lawson, of Windsor, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Liberty Care and Rehab. He was 88.

 

Born on February 2, 1933, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Anderson and Pauline Price Lawson. Eugene served his country in the United States Army. He was a sawmill worker. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and sewing.

 

He is survived by a sister, Iola (Kermus) Andrew of Adair County; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Clark; and five brothers, Burl Lawson, Anderson Lawson, Jr., Curtis Lawson, Henry Lawson, and Shelby Lawson.

SYLVIA COMBEST

Sylvia Mae Wilson Combest, age 103, of Somerset, KY passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

Sylvia was born on October 5, 1918 in Faubush, KY to the late Virgil Wilson and Eliza Jane Delk Wilson.  She was the oldest member of Cedar Point Baptist Church.  Sylvia enjoyed puzzle books, sewing and crafts.

 

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Wilma (and Clyde) Brummett of Somerset; Janie (and Darrell) Beshears of Nancy; Darrell (and June) Leach of Somerset and Bill (and Cindy) Leach of Nancy; many friends, including Bro. Patterson and his children, whom she loved dearly.

 

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Orvel Euclid Combest, whom she married on January 15, 1942 in Jamestown, KY and he preceded her on October 17, 1982; two sisters, Annis Wilson and Una Choate; and one nephew, Roger Jr. Crider.

 

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

 

Her funeral service will follow on Thursday at 11:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Patrick Patterson officiating.  Burial will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery.

ORVILLE CUMMINS

Orville Terrell “Bob” Cummins, age 92, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at his residence.

 

Bob was born on September 29, 1929 in Corbin, KY to the late Ben Cummins and Pluma Cook Cummins.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War.  Bob had his Master’s degree and retired as Human Resource Director from Tecumseh.  He enjoyed fishing and taking care of his grand dogs. 

 

He is survived by one son, Robert Cummins of Somerset; one daughter, Gail Cummins of Somerset; two grandchildren, Alexandra (Derrick) Roberts and Ben Cummins (Annie Hammond); three great grandchildren, Connor Lewis, Layla Roberts and Roman Roberts; his former son-in-law, Ron Penick; and a special niece, Mackelene (and Marvin) Smith.

 

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Mary Hunter Cummins; and one sister, Dora Smith.

CONNIE MOUNCE

Connie Ruth Campbell Mounce, 75, of Somerset passed away suddenly on Friday, November 12, 2021 after a tragic house fire in Somerset.

 

She was born on December 23, 1945 in Hazard, Kentucky, the daughter of Zola Campbell.  Connie was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed housekeeping, cleaning, cooking while listening to her favorite music.  She was noted for her cooking and her famous dish of banana pudding.  Connie also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She was a loving, kind-hearted and a jovial person who always had a smile she will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.

 

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a daughter; Linda Trailor and two sisters-in-law; Shirley Brooks and Mary Lou Mounce and her father and mother-in-law; Vola Lee and Myrtle Nannie Mounce.

 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 42 years; Jessie Mounce of Somerset, two sons; Darrell Duncil and Lonnie Duncil both of Morrow, Ohio, four brothers; Robert Campbell, Dean Campbell, Doug Campbell and Dan Campbell, two sisters; Betty Campbell and Greta Campbell all of Ohio, 6 grandchildren; her brothers and sisters-in-law William Mounce, Mae Frances Wallen, Donna Jean Ellingwood, James Lee Mounce and Ralph (Laura J) Mounce all of Somerset, a special sister-in-law that that was also taken from this earth along side of her; Nannie Lee Mounce.  She is also survived by a host of special nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

 

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company. 

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 1:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will be in Monroe, Ohio

Haskel Lee Pittman, age, 83 of Liberty, KY passed away on Sunday November 14th, 2021, at his residence. He was born June 12th, 1938, in Casey Co., KY, a son of the late Arthur and Myrtle Hatter Pittman.

 

Haskel was a welder.

 

Survivors include: His Spouse: Mary Lou Douglas Pittman, Six Children: Donna Lee Pittman of Middleburg, Ronnie Gene Pittman of Mason, OH, Shelia Kathleen Combs, Robert Haskel Pittman and Patrick Darrin Pittman all of Liberty and Shawneeda Effieann Brandenburg of Batavia, OH, Fourteen Grandchildren and Twelve Great Grandchildren.

DONNA STUBBLEFIELD

Donna Mae Stubblefield, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021, in Danville, KY. She was 58.

 

Born April 23, 1963, in Tucker, GA, she was a daughter of the late Robert J. and Shirley Baker Stubblefield. Donna was a member of the Pine Grove Church and a former seamstress. She loved spending time with her grandbabies, as they were her pride and joy. Donna enjoyed making others happy and she was always there for anyone that needed her.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Shana (and Erick) Hovious; significant other of 12 years, Larry Price; brother, Roger Dale (and Debbie) Stubblefield; sisters, Christine (and Danny) McQueary and Julie (and Robert) Rice; 2 grandsons, Robert and Brayden Goode; and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert A. “Babe” Stubblefield.

 

Funeral services will be at 1:00PM Monday, November 15, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Pittman officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the Casey County Memorial Gardens.

Karen Sue Rowland, age 61, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky.  Born Saturday, August 6, 1960, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Charles & Wanda Kilburn.  Her loving husband, of 45 years, is Gilbert Bernie Rowland of Stanford.  Karen was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.  Karen loved shopping, yard sales, and going to flea markets. 

 

In addition to her husband, Karen leaves behind three sons, Edgar Lee Rowland of Florence, Kentucky, Joseph Matthew Rowland of Casey County, Kentucky, and Gilbert David Rowland (Crystal Hawkins) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; two daughters, Caren Farrer of Stanford, and Michelle Denise Kidd (Darrell) of Casey County; fifteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Vernon Neal of Florida; three sisters, Diana Cecil (Todd), and Lora DeWalt (John) both of Florence, and Sandy Mercer (Jon) of Villa Hills, Kentucky; and several other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.

 

Cremation Rites have been honored.

Marilyn Irene Arthur “Pee Wee”, age 59, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at her home. 

 

Marilyn was born on January 1, 1962 in London, KY to the late Delford Arthur and Myrtle Irene Pennington Arthur and she was raised by John Arthur and the late Lois Arthur.  She attended Chimney Rock Baptist Church.  She enjoyed watching westerns and doing puzzle books.  Marilyn loved cats, especially “Bonnie” whom she raised from a kitten.

 

She is survived by two brothers, Delford Lee (and Belinda) Arthur of Somerset and James (and Charlene) Arthur of Somerset; one sister, Loretta (and Tim) Foutch of Somerset; and her uncle, John Arthur.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delford and Irene Arthur; and Lois Arthur.

Grace Diane "Hammer" Foster, 55, of Eubank, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

She was born December 31, 1965 in Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter of the late Alger Lynn Sr. & Patricia Jean (Thompson) Foster. She worked as a homemaker.

 

She is survived by two sons, David Eric & (Michaela Marlene) Santee of Russell Springs and Steven Ray & (Stephanie Lynn) Santee of Eubank; a brother, Paul Foster of Somerset; two sisters, Sue Ashley of Eubank and Alpha Whitter of Eubank; two grandchildren, and Isabella Rayann Santee & William David Santee.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Herbert L. Foster & Alger Lynn Foster, Jr.; and a sister, Patricia Jean Napier.

GERALD SEWELL

Gerald Keith Sewell, age 86, of Somerset, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Jean Waddle Care Center, of Somerset.

 

Gerald was born on August 17, 1935, in Dabney, son of the late Rev. Lloyd and Madeline Sewell. In 1954 he began working for Hughes Department Store downtown. Gerald married Barbara June Randolph on July 3, 1959, in Somerset.  He continued working downtown for Watson’s and then Holt Hardware before finally going to work for himself as a furniture refinisher and restorer. He and Barbara spent their younger years fishing and water skiing up and down Lake Cumberland.

 

Gerald was baptized at Pine Hill Baptist Church at 17 years of age. On July 23, 1975, their only daughter, Allison, was born. He and his family faithfully attended First Baptist Church of Somerset for 27 years. His quiet faith spoke volumes to anyone who knew him.

 

Gerald never met a stranger and would give anyone the shirt from his back. Friends who came for a visit hardly left without garden vegetables or apples in the summer. Along with his late wife, Gerald enjoyed playing games and doting on their two grandchildren. You knew you were following the Sewell’s if you saw “Quinn1” or “CadenK” on their license plates as they drove around town.

 

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years, Barbara; a sister, Louise Anderson (Curtis) Gilliland; a brother, William Richard Sewell; brothers-in-law Verl Whitis and Bill Hensley; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Sewell.

 

He is survived by their daughter and son-in-law, Allie and Chaz McGuire, of Somerset; his grandsons, Quinn and Caden, family members, including; Betty and Dave Bingham, Phyllis Whitis, Donald and Judy Whitaker, James and Joyce Sewell, Wanda and Jack Meece, Bobby and Merrlyn Crow, Doris Hensley, Judy Trimble and a host of nieces and nephews. 

 

Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Somerset  until time for services.  

 

Funeral services will at 11:00 a.m. at the Church with Gerald’s friends, David Pendley, Bro. Ryan Coffey and Bro. Steve Meece officiating. 

 

Musical selections will be provided by Carole Hancock. 

 

Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Juanita Cloyd Appleby, age 96, of Somerset, KY., passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehab.

 

Juanita was born on August 16, 1925 in Pineville, KY., to the late Okron and Lenora Dykes Cloyd. She was a member of Science Hill Christian Church. She retired from K-Mart and was a member of the Senior Friends Group. Juanita loved going fishing.

 

She is survived by a son, John (Sherry) Little of Somerset, KY; two daughters, Mary Ann O’Neil of Lancaster, KY and Nita Delk of Lexington, KY; eight grandchildren, Courtney Nicole Smith, J.C. Little, Michael Little, Kim Young, Kenny Norton, Christi Gillespie, Brandi Meece, and Tyler (Amanda) Meece  and several great-grandchildren.

 

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Okron and Lenora Cloyd.

 

A Memorial Service will be held by the family at a later date.

James Sonny Loveless, 90, of Somerset, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

He was born in Pulaski Co., Kentucky on July 15, 1931; son of the late Dennie and Amelia (Roy) Loveless. He retired from Gordon Foods in Atlanta, Georgia. He enjoyed working on car, especially racing cars. He was a kind and generous man, but most importantly he loved his family.

 

He is survived by his children, Penny & (Gary) Flynn, and Tim Loveless; grandchildren, John Ashley, Kenneth & (Jennifer) Ashley, Keith & (Stacie) Ashley, TJ Loveless, Amelia Loveless, Leandra & (Nathan) Epperson, Jeremiah Flynn, and Kevin Flynn; great-grandchildren, James Ashley, Keegan Ashley, Kasen Ashley, Layton Decker, Axel Epperson, Addy Epperson, Cooper Flynn, and Audra Flynn; and special friends, Lonne and Bernice Epperson, JB Muse, and Johnny Muse.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Loveless; a sister, Virginia Peterson; and a grandson, Daulton Ashley.

Charles (Chuck) A. Goff was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 8, 1944. He went home to be with the Lord on November 4, 2021 surrounded by his family after a short illness.

 

He was the son of Charlie Hayden Goff and Bonnie Kathrine Goff Phelps.

 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darlene Maiden (Duncan) Goff; His son Charles R. " Chuckie" Goff (Traci) of Somerset, Kentucky, a daughter; Tonja Coontz of Sylva, North Carolina., grand children; Dustin "Chip" (Kayla) Goff of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Amanda Goff of Knoxville, Tennessee, Rob "Spanky" (Mandy) Coontz of Homestead, Florida and April (Hunter) Gosnell of Sylva, North Carolina, His stepfather; Wayne Phelps of Somerset, Kentucky and a brother; Eugene (Phylis) Goff of Somerset a sister Nellie(Mike) Richardson of Danville, Kentucky and a step brother Jerry Phelps of Somerset, Kentucky. He also Leaves 19 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.

 

Along with his parents Charles was preceded in death by his brothers; David,Ronnie Lee and Hayden Goff, a nephew; Christopher Goff, his mother and father -in- law; Ralph and Goldie Duncan, His sister and brother -in- laws; Cheryl Phelps, Sue (Maiden) and Larry Toering, a nephew; Greg Denny and a niece; Jennifer Joyce Goff.

 

Chuck was a well known body man in Somerset for many years and later bought a Semi Truck and later was a truck driver for the JP Transportation Company for the remainder of his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

She was born August 31, 1940 in Jamestown, Kentucky; daughter of the late Clarence E. & Hattie  Vie (Burton) Skaggs. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.

 

She is survived by two sons, Randy Lee & (Angie) Barron of Somerset and David & (Vickie) Barron of Somerset; a daughter, Brenda Barron of Somerset; a brother, Gary & (Delores) Skaggs of Lexington; two sisters, Rita & (Eddie) Phelps of Somerset and Charlotte & (Arthur) Short of Georgetown, Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Nina Skaggs of Somerset; nine grandchildren, Dakota, Dalton, Dawson, Holly, David, Kim, Becky, David Allen, & Jason; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Denton Mathias Barron, to whom she was married on March 22, 1958 until his passing on June 23, 2014; a daughter, Joyce Smith; an infant daughter, Kathy Jean Barron; a brother, Everett Skaggs; and an infant brother, Jerry Lee Skaggs.

Micheal James Holt, of Windsor, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021, at his home. He was 39.

 

Born June 13, 1982, in Somerset, KY, he was the son of Mark and Teresa Murphy Holt. Micheal formerly worked for Tarter Industries. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.

 

Survivors include parents, Mark and Teresa Murphy Holt of Windsor; sister, Brittany Popplewell of Russell Springs; maternal grandparents, Hershel and Rosalee Murphy of Liberty; nieces, Chloe Popplewell and Hannah Malone; nephews, Bryson Holt, Brayden Popplewell, and Ryder Popplewell; and a host of aunts, uncles, and additional family members also survive.

 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Michelle Jean Holt and his paternal grandparents, Willie and Daisy Holt.

Brooklyn Jo Clements, of Casey County, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 4, 2021. She was 15 years of age.

 

Born July 8, 2006, in Taylor County, KY, she was a daughter of Andrew and Jessica Salyers Clements. Brooklyn was a sophomore at Casey County High School, where she was a member of the volleyball team, soccer team, and softball team. She was also active in FFA. Brooklyn was always smiling and she could light up any room. She loved fishing and hanging out with her friends.

 

Survivors include her parents, Andrew and Jessica Salyers Clements; maternal grandparents, Jody (and the late Ronnie) Salyers of Waynesburg; paternal grandparents, Kent and Dorothy Clements of Liberty; paternal great-grandmother, Paulita Cooper of Liberty; uncles, Jeff (and Mandy) Salyers of Eubank, Dennis Salyers of Waynesburg, and Donald (and Mandy) Clements of Liberty; aunts, Aundria (and Jason) Radliff of Waynesburg, Amanda Miller of Liberty, and Victoria (and Nathan) Cox of Knifley; a host of cousins, friends, and other relatives also survive.

JORDAN WATSON

Jordan Bradley Watson, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. He was 17.

 

Born on November 11, 2003, in Somerset, Kentucky, he was the son of Jeremy Tyler Watson and Amanda Cain. Jordan was a senior at Casey County High School where he was active in AF JROTC and a “straight A” student. He formerly played baseball and track at the high school. He was a current employee at Hardees. Jordan was a young Christian man who captured the hearts of all with his smile. He was baptized at Salem United Methodist Church. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by four sisters, Haley Roy, Breanna Hanson, Aaliyah Scott, all of Liberty, and Kalisa Watson of Lexington; his fiancé, Layla Howard; maternal grandfather, R.C. Cain of Liberty; paternal grandparents, Johnny Ray and Kathy Watson of Liberty; his aunt who helped raise him, Lisa Watson of Liberty; and special cousins who grew up with him, Cierra, Miranda, Sophia, Preston, and Ayden.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Connie Cundiff.

Michael "Mike" Whitt, 63, of Somerset, passed away in Lexington on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

 

He was born in Dayton, OH on December 6, 1957; son of the late Mervin O. and Malva C. (Chaney) Whitt. Mike started his career in truck driving for Conway Freight in 1986, and continued for 35 years thereafter working for XPO Logistics in Lexington, Kentucky. He was a distinguished 1 million mile recipient. He carried out his job with dedication and diligence. He helped those he worked with, also giving them encouragement and laughter. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Robin, riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles, spending time cruising the lake on the pontoon, riding ATV's, spending time outdoors, and was a TN Vols fan. He was a devoted and loving husband who cared deeply for his family. He was a member of Towne Boulevard Church of God.

 

He is survived by his wife, Robin Beck Whitt; a daughter, Andrea & (Lee) Williams of Springboro, Ohio; a granddaughter, Evy Williams; a step-daughter, Lindsay Henson of Greenville, NC and three special friends, Bobby VanWinkle, Johnny Bowling, and WD Salmons, and a host of other friends who were dear to him.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mervin O. and Malva C. (Chaney) Whitt.

Clifton Earl Jones, 83, of Science Hill, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021 in the comfort of his home. He was born March 11, 1938 in Hardin, Kentucky to the late Rob & Sally Jones.

 

Earl was of the Baptist faith and he loved sitting outside with family on warm days and playing cards with them at night. He was a fan of NASCAR and wrestling and enjoyed watching his favorite TV shows, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Walker Texas Ranger, but most of all he loved going to Bingo.

Lavon Roberts Murphy, age, 88 of Liberty, KY passed away on Sunday October 31st, 2021, at the Liberty Care Center. She was born January 23rd, 1933, in Casey Co., KY, a daughter of the late Cyrus and Laura Wilkerson Roberts.

 

Lavon was the widow of Matt Green (M.G.) Murphy who passed away on February 7th, 1991.

 

Lavon was a homemaker and a member of Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church.

LILLARD THOMPSON

Lillard Ray Thompson, age, 86 of Richmond, KY passed away on Saturday October 30th, 2021, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond. He was born June 18th, 1935, in Pricetown, KY, a son of the late Clay and Ettie Morgan Thompson.

 

Lillard was the widower of Margretta Williams Thompson who passed away on November 26th, 2017.

 

Lillard was a Farmer.

 

Survivors include: One Daughter: Renee and (Jason) Pirtle of Richmond, One Granddaughter: Kylie Pirtle of Richmond and One Brother: Clifford Thompson of Cincinnati, OH.

SARAH WOLFORD

Sarah Ann Atherton Wolford, of Casey County, passed from this life on November 1, 2021, in Somerset, KY. She was 86.

 

Born March 26, 1935, in Owensboro, KY, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Paxton Atherton and Mary Agnes Gilles Atherton. Mrs. Wolford was a loving homemaker, answering well her calling as a wife and mother. She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church and an avid fan of UK football and basketball. She loved playing cards, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with children and grandchildren.

 

Survivors include her children, Debra Ann Wolford (and Tom) Head of Goodlettsville, TN, Joseph Coy (and Liz) Wolford of Versailles, Mary Paxton Wolford (and Mark) Bogard of Church Hill, TN, and James Gregory (and Lisa) Wolford of Lancaster; sister, Mary Elizabeth Atherton of Louisville; daughter-in-law, Ellen Wolford of Owensboro; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Keith Wolford and a son, Michael Keith Wolford.

 

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, November 6, 2021, at St. Bernard Catholic Church with Father George Otuma officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Gary Thomas Newton, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021, in Somerset, KY. He was 56.

 

Born August 21, 1965, in Lebanon, KY, he was a son of the late Burl Gorden Newton and Linda Faye “Judy” Wethington Newton. Gary was a gate hauler. He enjoyed camping, bonfires, playing cards, cookouts, traveling with his dog Tucker, and fishing. Gary loved spending time with his family and friends.

Daniel "Danny" Walker, 68, of Science Hill, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

 

He was born November 15, 1952 in Somerset; son of Vernell (McQueen) Walker of Somerset and the late Howard "Doc" Walker. He worked in retail as a salesman.

 

He is survived by his mother; his wife, Gloria (Maestas) Walker; two sons, Wesley Walker of Somerset and Joshua Walker of New Mexico; two brothers, Howard & (Sharon) Walker and Morris & (Bernetta) Walker, both of Somerset; a sister, Laverne & (Gordon) Wiles of Somerset; and a granddaughter, Evelyn Rose Walker.

 

He is preceded in death by his father.

Glenda Jean Gaddis, 73, of Science Hill, passed away, Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

Glenda was born May 21st, 1948 to the late Delbert and Mary Jean Girdler of Science Hill, Kentucky. Glenda was a member of the Science Hill Christian Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and taught piano lessons for 45 plus years. Above everything else her family was the most important to her. She devoted her life to taking care of her family. 

 

Glenda is survived by her husband of 50 years, David Gaddis, whom she married on November 7, 1970; three daughters, Tammy Reed of Somerset, Melissa Wiggins of Cynthiana, and Angela & (Scott) Davis of Somerset; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Barry & (Kathy) Girdler of Somerset; one sister, Lynn & (Mike) Jones of Eubank; special friends, Johnny & Camille Partin of Somerset and their daughter, Sandra Partin, and Ceil Richardson of Science Hill; along with many other special friends and relatives. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Mary Jean Girdler; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charlie and Hazel Gaddis of Science Hill; sisters-in-law, Windola Gaddis and Sandy Girdler; brothers-in-law, Junior Phelps, Jim Warren, and Gilbert Gaddis; one son-in-law, John Reed; one granddaughter, Brianna Davis; and one great-grandson, Cody Lee Turpin.

LOIS GILLILAND

Edna “Lois” Gilliland, age 94 of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away October 29, 2021, at her home.  She was born April 21, 1927 in Pulaski County and was the daughter of the late William Ray Edwards and Hattie Beulah Phelps.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Linville E. Gilliland, Jr., her parents, one sister Verla Mae Edwards and infant brother Jearl Edwards.  Lois is survived by one brother, Howard Edwards (Sue) of Somerset, two sisters, Olive Jeanette (O.J.) Williamson, JoAnn New (Carlos) both of Somerset, and sister-in-law Bobbie Jo Holt of Somerset: nine nieces and nephews: Melodye Burkett (Bill) of Lexington, Wendi Conley (Gary) of Somerset, Lorri Horn (Troy) of Lexington, Phylisty Edwards-Conway (Todd) of North Carolina, Julena Edwards of Somerset, Jack New (Melissa) of Somerset, Dustin New (Stephanie) of Somerset, Jill Dagley (Jody) of Somerset, Suzanne Kidd of Somerset, and Curtis Gilliland, Jr. of Somerset.

 

She was the favorite aunt of eighteen great nieces and nephews: Andrea, Erin, Courtney, Amber, Aubrey, Chris, Brittany, Sydney, Jarred, Aislynn, Jed, Jeriah, Jaala, Caleb, Brevin, Briley, Jordan, and Jasmine.

 

Lois was a member of the class of 1944 at Shopville High School.  She married her high school sweetheart Linville E. Gilliland, Jr. April 26, 1944 when he came home from Camp Chaffee Arkansas on weekend pass.

 

She was employed as a seamstress at the Palm Beach Plant and later as an instructional aide at Hopkins Elementary School.  She and her husband loved traveling with friends to the Holy Land, Mexico, Alaska, Brazil, Caribbean Saaba, and Denmark.  Together they enjoyed wintering and fishing at Lake Okeechobee, Florida bringing home ample crappie and bluegill filets to last until returning in the fall. 

 

She enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball and cooking (especially desserts).  The family looked forward to her mouth-watering yeast rolls and delicious pies and cakes.  Her extensive collection of hand-written recipes from friends and family members is complete with donors’ names attached.  When not cooking, her pastime was appliqueing and quilting a large number of lovely handmade quilts to pass on to the family as a lasting memory of her creativity.

 

Having become a dedicated believer in Christ at an early age, she was a faithful member of New Enterprise Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. 

 

The visitation will be at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 11:00am until 1:00pm.  The funeral will follow on Wednesday at 1:00pm with Brother Jim McKinney officiating.  Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Jack New, Dustin New, Gary Conley, Chris Conley, Bill Burkett, and Desi Frei.

VERNON WEDDLE

Vernon Weddle, age 81, of Nancy, KY, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

Vernon was born on December 29, 1939 in Mintonville, KY to the late Lawrence Weddle and Helen Minton Weddle. He was a member of Bradleys Pleasure Baptist Church and attended church at Carter Ridge Baptist in Mintonville with his brother and sister. He worked at Crane Plumbing for 41 years and was also a member of the Army National Reserves.  Vernon loved his grandsons very much and was excited for the news of the anticipated arrival of his great-granddaughter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering, and car races as well as vacations at the beach.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Emerson Weddle; one daughter, Ronda Weddle; two grandsons, Joseph Bradshaw of Somerset, KY and Matthew (Robin) Bradshaw of Nancy, KY and their father Ernest Bradshaw; one great-granddaughter, Sawyer Lynn Bradshaw; a brother, Glen (Joyce) Weddle of Nancy, KY; one sister, Patsy (Bob) Vaught of Nancy, KY; nieces Angela (Marty) Saylor, Tina Broyles, and Erica Vaught; one nephew, Stacy (Nikki) Vaught; two aunts, Norma Jean Johnson and Blondell (James) Garner; one uncle, Athel (Maude) Weddle and many cousins; and his faithful canine companion, Heidi, which he loved very much.

 

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter Perk and Virda Pitman Minton; Finley and Myrtie Pitman Weddle; one brother, James Ray (Cleta) Weddle; one sister, Joann Reynolds; his in–laws, Emery and Nina Randolph Emerson, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

MARY HURT

Mary Lynn Hurt, age 88 of Somerset, Kentucky went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 28, 2021 surrounded by her family at the Jean Waddle Care Center at lake Cumberland regional hospital following a long illness.

 

Mary Lynn was born on August 5, 1933 in Fonde, KY to parents Elbert and Mable Huddleston. Mary Lynn is survived by her husband Gene Hurt, whom she married in Eubank, Ky on September 5, 1953; her children, Kim & ( Doug) Crouch of Somerset, Jeanne Sutton of Somerset, and Don Hurt of Somerset; her grandchildren, Ryan Sutton, Cody & (Jessica) Sutton, Logan & (Jenna) Sutton, Shaun & (Haley) Dick, Hilary Dick, Donovan Hurt and Devan Hurt; her great grandchildren MaKayla Dick, Riley Hatfield, Oakley Dick, Camden Cowan, and Fern Sutton; her niece Andrea & (Randy) Dotson; and her nephew Scott Decker.

 

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her mother in law Edna Hurt, her father in law Luke Hurt, her daughter in law Kim Hurt, her sister Janet Decker, her brother Verlin Huddleston and her brother in law Andy Decker.

 

Mary Lynn worked as a deputy court clerk in the Pulaski County Clerks office in the 1950s, but following the birth of her first child, she put her career on hold to become a stay at home mother. She was a dedicated mother, wife and always committed herself to raising her children and taking care of her family.

Mary Lynn enjoyed reading, playing the card game, bridge, cooking and was involved in her children’s school functions. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a kind and giving person who donated to multiple charities and helping the less fortunate in her community.

 

Mary Lynn was also a dedicated Christian and servant of Christ. Her conservative beliefs were the foundation she used in raising her children. She taught them the value of hard work and education to get ahead in the world.

 

Mary was well liked by anyone who met her and had a kind disposition and personality. She was always the voice of wisdom that her children and many of their friends looked to for advice during trying times in the lives. Her gentle soul will be missed by her family and friends alike but her memory will continue on throughout their lives.

 

Funeral services for Mary Lynn Hurt will be held at Pulaski Funeral Home on Thursday, November 4th with family at 10:00 and visitors will be accepted at 11:00 AM. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM with Glenn Cox officiating. Burial will be at Somerset Cemetery.

FREDA ROY

Freda Creekmore Warner Roy, age 80, of Somerset, KY passed away on October 28, 2021.

 

Freda was born in Somerset on June 12, 1941, to the late Lance and Audrey Creekmore. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a dear friend to many. She was a woman of Faith and trusted the Lord deeply.

 

She is survived by her loving husband, Rodney A. Roy; two daughters Jill Warner Gormley (David) and Angela Warner Curtsinger (Rick) two grandchildren, whom she treasured, John Richard Curtsinger and Jillian Curtsinger, all of Lexington, KY; one brother, Fred Creekmore (Gail) of Somerset, KY; and one sister, who was her best friend, Karen Fisher Schoolcraft (Eddie) of Somerset, KY.

 

Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her late husband J.C. Warner.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Friday, November 5, 2021 at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. David Pendley officiating.

ELIGE HAMMOCK

lige Dewayne Hammock, 71 of Somerset, passed from this life on Monday, November 1, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Care Center after an extended illness.

 

He was born on December 23, 1949 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, son of the late Oren and Mary Nelson Hammock.  Dewayne as he was affectionately called by his family and friends was a loving, kind-hearted and generous person.  He was an accomplished and expert professional artist and had a genuine passion for bringing his painting to life.  He was of the Baptist Faith.  On July 11, 1990 he was married to Connie Stargle in Stearns, Kentucky at the Natural Arch.  He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

 

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a son; Robert Grogean and a brother; James Hammock

 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 31 years; Connie Stargle Hammock of Somerset, two sons; Edward Dewayne Hammock and Dewayne Allen Hammock of Tennessee, two daughters; Melina Dawn Hammock of Somerset and Angela Wooten of Ohio, a brother; Michael (Susan) Hammock of Burnside, and two sisters; Mary Hardwick and Elizabeth (Dillard) Silvers all of Somerset, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two special friends; Dino Fiste and Kelly Thompson along with his special “furbabies” Summer Midnight and her daughter Callie along with Jolly, Wolverine, Flame and Wilbur and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ray L. Chumney, age 82, of Somerset, passed from this life on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Care Center after an extended illness.

 

He was born on July 28, 1939 in Clarkrange, Tennessee, son of the late Everett and Opal Sisco Chumney.  After High School, he advanced his career and became a successful banker and enjoyed farming.  Ray was of the Lutheran Faith and a member of the Lutheran Redeemer Church of Somerset.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and had a genuine love for them.  Ray was a man of simplicity and unselfishness. He was married to his wife, Dorla (Applegate) Chumney on August 14, 1960 in Pitsburg, Ohio, they recently celebrated 61 years of marriage together.   Ray was a kind-hearted and generous man and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

 

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by three siblings; Jean Daugherty, Wilma York and Ronnie Chumney.

PAUL MCKINNEY

Paul David McKinney, of Middleburg, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was 70.

 

Born on September 7, 1951, in Jackson, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Nora Kelly McKinney. Paul was formerly a road grader for the County Road Department in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

 

He can best be described as living his life as a good Christian husband and father who loved his job as being a “PawPaw.” He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting knives, carving walking canes, and playing video games with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going on nature walks with his family.

 

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Lola Hayes McKinney; three sons, Carey (Samantha) McKinney of Liberty, David (Kris) McKinney of Spanaway, Washington, and Benjamin McKinney of Middleburg; grandchildren, Alyssa, Tristan, Dylan, Grayci, Elijah, Tyler, Nathan, Danielle, Landon, and Mikey; a sister, Shirley McKay of Tennessee; and two brothers, Don (Glenda) McKinney of Georgia and Jerry McKinney of Tennessee.

 

He is preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Nelson and Nadine Hall; and two brothers, James McKinney and Steve McKinney.

Steve “Weevie” Harris, of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Casey County Hospital. He was 51.

 

Born on March 16, 1970, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Ray Junior and Elaine Mason Harris. Steve was a landscaper. He was a hardworking man that had a heart of gold. He was a great father that loved his family.

 

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Daniel Harris; a daughter, Sara (Matt) Harris Acker, of Michigan; two sons, Corey Daniel and Patrick Harris, both of Liberty; a sister, Donna Lee of Liberty; two grandchildren, Tempest Jade and Elaine Mary; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Lesa Davidson; and a brother, Marty Harris.

 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow in Thomastown Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

 

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to McKinney-Brown Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral expenses.
