Ray L. Chumney, age 82, of Somerset, passed from this life on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Care Center after an extended illness.

He was born on July 28, 1939 in Clarkrange, Tennessee, son of the late Everett and Opal Sisco Chumney.  After High School, he advanced his career and became a successful banker and enjoyed farming.  Ray was of the Lutheran Faith and a member of the Lutheran Redeemer Church of Somerset.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and had a genuine love for them.  Ray was a man of simplicity and unselfishness. He was married to his wife, Dorla (Applegate) Chumney on August 14, 1960 in Pitsburg, Ohio, they recently celebrated 61 years of marriage together.   Ray was a kind-hearted and generous man and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by three siblings; Jean Daugherty, Wilma York and Ronnie Chumney.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife; Dorla (Applegate) Chumney of Somerset, Kentucky, a son; Douglas (Cristal) Chumney of Tipp City, Ohio, a daughter; Rhonda (Steve) Woodworth of Louisville, Kentucky, five grandchildren; Jason Woodworth, Derek Chumney, Sarah (Scott) Peace, Leah (Dustin) Dzierzek, and Jennel Chumney, and two great-grandchildren; Rowan Peace and Kelsi Chumney, a sister; Millie Loftin of Lexington, SC, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A private visitation and service will be held in the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Lutheran Redeemer Church, 3950  US Hwy 27 South, Somerset, Kentucky 42501 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Ave, Chicago, Illinois  60601
