MIRIAM NISSLEY

 

Miriam Viola Nissley, 90 years, 1 month and 17 days, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, June 25, 2024, at her home on 495 Barnetts Creek Road, Liberty, KY.

 

She is survived by one brother, Fred Nissley and wife, Viola, of Mayfield, KY; one sister-in-law, Nancy Schrock Kauffman Nissley of Liberty, KY; and many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Saloma Mullet Nissley; one sister, Eliza Mae Nissley Kauffman; and one brother, Leroy Nissley.

 

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Casey Amish Mennonite Church, 655 Hicks Road, Liberty, KY, from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 6:00 to 8:00PM. 

 

The funeral will be at 10:00AM at the Casey Amish Mennonite Church on Sunday, June 30, 2024, with Lester Beachy, Timothy Beachy and Kenneth Yoder officiating. 

 

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

THEODORE STEPHEN MIRACLE

 

Theodore “T” Stephen Miracle, beloved son of Alexandra Lee and Dakota Miracle, was born sleeping on June 21st, 2024, at U.K. Chandler Hospital.

 

He is survived by two brothers: David Hash and Luther Miracle, Grandparents: Steve Lee, Desnia Lee, Mike (Roxana) Miracle, and Tammy Johnson, Great grandparent: Freeba Miracle, along with numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

 

He is preceded in death by one sister: Mae Miracle, Great Grandparents: Howard (Nellie) Lee, Peggy Spellman, Arlis Monday, Boyd Miracle and Artie Thompson.

 

There will be no visitation. A private memorial will be held for family.

DARRELL MONDIE

 

Darrell Ray Mondie, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, at his home. He was 70.

 

Born on November 23, 1953, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Ozie and Opal Walden Mondie. Darrell was a self-employed vehicle repairman and salesman. He was a United States Navy veteran and formerly a member of VFW Post 5704.

 

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Dix Mondie; two sons, Darrell Ray Mondie II of Georgia and Ralph Ray (Rachel) Mondie of Liberty; three daughters, Jean Marie Mondie of Liberty, Tammy Sue Barber of Russell Springs, and Alena (Chris) Benson of Junction City; fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Noel, Jackie, Gilbert, Arvill, and Steve Mondie; and sisters, Deweese Miles and Bernetta Wright.

 

No services will be held at this time.

LARRY YADEN

 

Larry M. Yaden, of Liberty, KY, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. He was 87.

 

He was born July 3, 1936, in Casey County, KY to the late James Alger and Irma Bell Watson Yaden.

 

Larry retired from Herald-Leader, after 38 years of service. He was a US Air Force and the Army National Guard veteran, a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Liberty, KY and attended Southeast Christian Church (LaGrange Campus).

 

He enjoyed working in his grape vineyard and working with honeybees.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his wife, Wanda Carol Bryant Yaden, whom he wed December 12, 1959; and his brother, Travis Yaden.

 

Larry is survived by his children, Carol Sue Yaden of Nicholasville, KY,  Sharon (and Dale) Howard of Nicholasville, KY and Randy (and Paula) Yaden of LaGrange, KY; his grandchildren, Jarrett Peavler, Shawna (Peavler) Ogonek,  Dustin Peavler, Jordan Howard, Hayden Howard, Dalton Yaden, Kaylin (Yaden) Clark and Kiersten (Yaden) Stovall; his great-grandchildren, Abigail Peavler, Katelynn Peavler, Blake Peavler, Anabelle Ogonek, Eleanor Ogonek, Kalla Ogonek, Joseph Ogonek, Collin Peavler, Zoey Peavler, Zac Jinez, Adriana Jinez, Connor Howard, Kaydence Howard, Eden Clark, Ember Clark and two on the way; his brothers, Danny Yaden of Liberty, KY and Odell Yaden of Campbellsville, KY; and his sister, Judy Davis of Campbellsville, KY.

 

Funeral services will be at 3:00PM Friday, June 21, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, Liberty, KY.

 

Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Blake Clark, Hayden Howard, Jordan Howard, Joe Ogonek, Dustin Peavler, Jarrett Peavler and Dalton Yaden.

 

The family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 3:00PM Friday, June 21, 2024 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

JOHN SUGARS, SR.

 

John Daniel Shugars, Sr., of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at his home. He was 92.

 

Born on April 11, 1932, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late W.K. Shugars, Jr. and Vera E. Huntsman Shugars. He worked in rehabilitation with the KY School for the Deaf as a Counselor from 1967-1971. John then went on to work as an Agricultural Teacher from 1971-1974, Horticulture Teacher from 1974-1986, and Principal from 1986-2004, all for Casey County Vocational School. He also formerly worked for Farm Bureau in Insurance Sales and worked in greenhouse and landscaping. John was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church among many other organizations: Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 47 as well as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 123, Youth Service Advisory Board, Lake Cumberland ADD Board Member, KY Tech State Market Committee, Kiwanis Member, Renaissance Kentucky Liberty Committee Member, Chamber of Commerce Member, Craftsman Lodge #722 Member, and Farm Bureau Director. John was awarded the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award and received KY Colonel Recognition under three governors.

 

He is survived by his wife, Carolee Popplewell Shugars, who he wed on June 4, 1958; a son, John Daniel (and Melissa) Shugars, Jr. of Liberty; a daughter, Jennifer (and Jerry Johnson) Shugars of Liberty; a granddaughter, Ashley Jean Ann (and Adam) Dean; and two great-grandchildren, Kash Dean and Kamden Dean.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Olivia Lee Shugars; and three brothers, Bill Shugars, Owen Shugars, and Pat Shugars.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 21, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Parton and Bro. Rodney Koger officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Masonic rites will be held at 7:30 P.M on Thursday.

 

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the Casey County Food Pantry or the Trail Scouts through First Baptist Church of Liberty.

WAYNE STARGLE

 

Wayne Stargle, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024. He was 61.

 

Born December 7, 1962, in Cincinnati, OH, he was a son of Delois Eads Stargle and the late Paul Eugene Stargle. Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, setting up at the flea market, and his CB radio, where his handle was “crackerjack”.

 

Survivors include his mother, Delois Eads Stargle of Liberty; brothers, Phillip Stargle and Anthony Stargle (and Shannon Phelps), both of Liberty; niece, Ally Faith Stargle of Berea; nephew, Matthew Gerald (and Heather) Stargle of Russell Springs; and numerous cousins and other relatives survive.

 

He was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Gerald and Charles Edward Stargle; and sister, Paula Stargle.

 

Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Thursday, June 20, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Dwight Coffman officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the Poplar Springs Cemetery.

AXEL BROWN

 

Axel Jace Brown, infant son of Chasity Weddle and Justin Brown of Liberty, KY, passed away Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Casey County Hospital. He was born Thursday, May 2, 2024, in Somerset, KY at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

Baby Axel is survived by his parents, Chasity and Justin; his sister, Ava May Grace Brown; his grandparents, Carla Humes of Liberty, Ronnie Weddle of Liberty, Mark (and Amanda) Brown of Yosemite and Gina (and Merle) Hogue of Liberty; his great-grandparents, Eardean and Eula Weddle of Liberty and Winfred Brown (and the late Victoria Brown) of Yosemite; his aunt, Rachel Tapscott (and Michael) of Liberty; his cousins, Max, Felix and Onyx; and his great-aunt, Joan Humes of Liberty.

 

Graveside services will be 12:00PM Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Birdie Russell Cemetery.

DENNIS CHARLES, SR.

 

Dennis Ellis Charles, Sr., of Frankfort, KY, died Saturday, June 8, 2024 at VA Medical Center in Lexington.  He was 80.

 

Dennis was born February 12, 1944 in Casey County, KY to the late Hayes Dennis Charles and Virginia Ellis Charles Cook.  

 

He was a retired engineering technician. He was associated with the Hayworth, Meyer and Boleyn firm, the Fuller, Mossberger, Scott and May firm, and the Kenvirons firm.  He was a US Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War. Dennis was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Frankfort, KY.

 

Dennis was an avid University of Kentucky fan and loved going to the games. He was a talented mechanic. There wasn’t much that he couldn’t fix.  He enjoyed taking care of his yard, making it look perfect and he enjoyed flint napping.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Ralph Cook; and his sister, Patricia Ann Hawkinson.

 

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Pat Carmicle Charles of Frankfort, KY, whom he wed on February 11, 1969; his son, Dennis Charles, Jr. (and his wife, Margaret) of Frankfort; his daughter, Delissa Charles of Berea; his grandchildren, Sativa, Athena, Davina, Sophia, Miles and Cole; his brother Jeff (and his wife, Lisa) and his sister, Linda, both of Florida.

 

Funeral services will be 1:00PM on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, Liberty, KY. Bro. Mike Colston will officiate the services.

 

Military honors will be provided by the Casey County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Cremation will follow.

 

Family will receive friends from 12:00PM to 1:00PM on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

JOYCE MAUPIN

 

Joyce Gay Maupin age 73, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Saturday June 15th, 2024, at the U.K. Medical Center. She was born July 12th, 1950, in Liberty, KY, a daughter of the late Omer L. and Anna Mae Wall Clements.

 

Joyce was a former seamstress for 14 years, a former teachers assistant at the Casey County Middle School, former activities director at Casey County Adult Day and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include: her spouse: Johnny Ray Maupin, two daughters: Ronda and (Eric) May of Liberty and Judy and (Dan) Johnson of Liberty, five grandchildren: Samantha and (Derek) Falconbury, Hunter and (Lauren) Gillock, Kloe May, Brady Johnson and BoRaya Johnson, seven great grandchildren: Anna Claire, Stephen Reece, and Oakley Ray Falconbury, Ryder, Sadie and Vada Gillock and Raegyn Bryant,  one sister: Lillian Faye Larkins of Liberty, she was also a second mother to Kathy Mathews and Norma Blevins, and she also leaves behind a host of other family, church family and friends.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents was one brother: Larry Roger Clements and two sisters: Jullian Rose Gosser and Jewell Clements.

 

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Tuesday June 18th, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel and after 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday June 19th, 2024, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church.  

 

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday June 19th, 2024, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Bro. Johnny Maupin officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Poplar Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Johnson, Eric May, Derek Falconbury, Hunter Gillock, Brady Johnson and Ryder Gillock.

 

IVAN EDWARDS

 

Ivan Monroe Edwards age 82, of Shelbyville, KY, passed away on Tuesday June 11th, 2024, at the U. of L. Health Jewish Hospital. He was born May 6th, 1942, in Cincinnati, OH, a son of the late Woodrow and Easter Evetene Coontz Edwards.

 

Ivan was retired from U.P.S. and a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran of the Vietnam Era.

 

Survivors include: one brother: Michael Junior and (Lorita) Edwards of Shelbyville, KY and one sister: Patsy and (Robert) Tobias of Willisburg, KY.

 

Preceding him in death besides his parents was one sister: Gwendell Loyall and two brothers: Billy Ray Edwards and Gary Richard Edwards.

 

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Sunday June 16th, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel and after 10:00 A.M. on Monday June 17th, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in the Caney Fork Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

 

LORA PATTERSON

 

Lora Patterson age 61, of Middleburg, KY, passed away on Tuesday June 11th, 2024, at her residence. She was born June 22nd, 1962, in Clarkson, KY, a daughter of the late William Junior Kerr and Rita Joyce Miller Frederick.

 

Lora was a former teacher’s aide for the Casey Co. School System and a member of Grove Ridge Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include: her spouse: John Glenn Patterson, two daughters: Brandy and (James) Jenkins of Middleburg and Beth and (Martrey) Littlejohn of Middleburg, five grandchildren: John Mason Jenkins, Madyson Nichole Jenkins, Draedon Martrey Littlejohn, Daxton James Littlejohn and Daelynn Grace Littlejohn, and three sisters: Teresa Gay Lanham of Cecilia, KY, Sue Sullivan of Upton, KY and Karen Butler of Bonnieville, KY.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents was one brother: Robert Kerr.

 

Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Thursday June 13th, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.  

 

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday June 14th, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Edward Bray officiating.

EDMUND GROSSMAN

 

Edmund William Grossman, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Montebello on Academy, an Independent Living facility. He was 96.

 

Born June 14, 1927, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Edmund (Bill) was the son of Edward and Lillian Grossman. Bill was proud to be a Marine and served in both World War II and the Korean conflict. He was also a successful businessman, employed by General Electric, Honeywell and Olivetti Corporations during the start of the Information/Computer Age.

 

Bill was an avid golfer and he and his wife lived in golf course communities in North Carolina for many years after Bill retired.

 

Bill is survived by his son, James Wesley; his daughters-in-law, Carol Therese and Janet Ann; 5 grandchildren, Hollie, Heather, Morgan, Hannah, and Brooke; 9 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

 

In addition to his parents, Edmund is preceded in death by his wife, Alice; sons, Edmund William II and Matthew Morgan; and brother, Theodore.

 

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. at Glenwood Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

WILLIAM RITCHIE

 

William Gene Ritchie, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at St. Joseph Health in Lexington. He was 66.

 

Born on December 31, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was a son of the late William Orville Ritchie and Janet Sue Taylor. William was a Senior Tech in commercial refrigeration.

 

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Lynn Walters Ritchie of Liberty; two sons, David Ritchie of Spencer, IN and William Lee “Billy” (and Lisa) Ritchie of Beech Grove, IN; three grandchildren, Angel, Billie Ann, and Randy; a brother, Robert (and Sherry) Ritchie of IN; and two sisters, Rosetta Ritchie of IN and Regina Roddy of GA.

 

No services will be held at this time. Cremation rites will be honored.

DEVONDA LUTTRELL

 

Devonda Sue Stephens Luttrell, 73, of Liberty, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at her home.  She was born in Casey County on June 16, 1950 to the late Cornelus Milford & Nettie Mae Matherly Stephens.

 

Devonda was a retired bus driver for the Casey County School System and helped clean house for Pat & Johnny.  She was a member of Labascus Church of Christ.

 

She enjoyed reading and working in her garden and with her flowers.  Devonda loved shopping & loved her cats.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 26 years, Kenneth Lee Luttrell; her brothers, Vertis, Edgar, Garvey, Mervin, Verlen, Carroll, Jerry and Jackie Stephens, Charles and Hollis Pevley; her sisters, Angie Davis, Jewell Stone, Hila Jean Gray and Norma Leen Caruthers.

 

Devonda is survived by her sons, Anthony Luttrell and Jeffrey Luttrell, both of Liberty; her grandchildren, Amanda Luttrell, Chelsea Marple, Brooke Morgan, Casey Phillips, Tanner Bottoms, Dakota Goode and Dakota Allred; and her great-grandchildren, Mason, Haylee, Kylee, Caden and Saylor; her sisters, Judy Sharp of Dunnville and Roseleen Luttrell of Liberty.

 

Funeral services will be 2:00PM Friday, June 7, 2024 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Maupin officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. 

 

The family will receive friends from 12:00PM to 2:00PM Friday, June 7th.
