CHRISTINE WEDDLE

 

Christine Clements Weddle, age 87, of, Dunnville, KY, passed away on Sunday February 22nd, 2026, at the Fair Oaks Health and Rehab. She was born December 23rd, 1938, in Liberty, KY, a daughter of the late Oliver and Ann Liza Black Clements.

 

Christine was the widow of Micah Weddle who passed away on December 10th, 2022.

 

Christine was a former seamstress for Liberty Sportswear and OshKosh.

 

Survivors include: one daughter: Beverly (Kenneth) Sullivan of Russell Springs, one son: Ray (Jenell) Weddle of Dunnville, five grandchildren, three step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and twelve step great grandchildren.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents and spouse was six siblings: Ola Clements, Lola Kimbrell, Arlis Clements, Louise Clements, Mildred Poff and Lewis “Joe” Clements.

 

Visitation will be held 12:00 P.M. Friday February 27th, 2026, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday February 27th, 2026, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

ELIZABETH GARRETT

 

Elizabeth Barlow Garrett, age 85, of, Dunnville, KY, passed away on Saturday February 21st, 2026, at the Ashton on Dorsey in Louisville, KY. She was born November 1st, 1940, in Liberty, KY, a daughter of the late Dave Albert and Anna Bell Barlow.

 

Elizabeth was the widow of James A. Garrett III who passed away on September 16th, 2015.

 

Elizabeth was an owner for 54 years of Garrett Gate, and a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include: three daughters: Patricia (Jack) Miller of Louisville, Wilma Greer of Centreville, VA and Mary Agee of Nicholasville, five grandchildren: Jonathan Miller of Laguna Hills, CA, Daniel Miller of Orlando, FL, Bryan Agee of Nicholasville, Brent Agee of Nicholasville and Ashley Greer of Centreville, VA, four great grandchildren: Preston Agee, Caiden Agee, Eliza Miller and J.J. Miller, two step great grandchildren: Kaelynn Speed and Logan Speed, one brother: Eugene Barlow of Chicopee, MA, and three sisters: Delores Godwin of Indianapolis, IN, Ova Wesley Roberts of Columbia, and Dollie Noel of Campbellsville.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents and spouse was one son: George Garrett, five brothers: Marshall, John, Albert, Robert and Fletcher Barlow and two sisters: Josephine Gabehart and Georgia Adams.

 

Visitation will be held 11:30 A.M. Thursday February 26th, 2026, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

ROBERT HOLTON

 

Robert Lynn Holton, age 75, of, Dunnville, KY, passed away on Thursday February 19th, 2026, at the Russell County Hospital. He was born January 13th, 1951, in Lincoln Co., KY, a son of the late Raymond and Rubie Johnson Holton.

 

Robert was a former employee of ATR, a former employee of the Casey County Recycling Center and a member of South Fork Baptist Church in McKinney, KY.

 

Survivors include: his spouse: Debbie Cain Holton, two daughters: Kimberly (James) Fultz of Moreland and Jennifer Moore of Berea, two step sons: Jeff (Candida) Walters of Dunnville and Jamie (Susan) Walters of Dunnville, five grandchildren: Abby, Emma, Cody, Megan and Jacob, two step grandchildren: Jami Lynn and Kristian, two great grandchildren: Ezra and Ella, two step great grandchildren: Draven and Ashlynn, two sisters: Regina Estes of Junction City and Rhonda (Hank) Cornett of Hustonville and one brother: Rickie Holton of Liberty.

 

Preceding him in death besides his parents was two brothers: Ronald Holton and Randall Holton.

NORMA HATTER

 

Norma Jean Hatter, age 93, of, Liberty, KY, passed away on Monday February 9th, 2026, at her residence. She was born May 29th, 1932, in Willow Springs, KY, a daughter of the late Ambrose and Betty Blanche Wesley Clark.

 

Norma Jean was a former school cook, and lunchroom clerk for the Casey County School System, a homemaker and a member of the Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church.

 

Norma Jean was the widow of Cecil Hatter who passed away on April 6th, 2021.

 

Survivors include: one son: Michael L. (Sherri) Hatter of Liberty, one daughter: Jeanie (Darrell) Atwood of Liberty, four grandchildren: Jason Hatter, Ashley (Jordan) Sparr, Brittany (Quintin) Ogle and Darren (Courtney) Atwood, ten great grandchildren: Logan Hatter, Taylor Hatter, Colton Hatter, Connor Sparr, Jenna Sparr, Anslee Weddle, Case Atwood, Tyson Atwood, Ledger Atwood and Briggs Atwood, two great great grandchildren: Paisley Hatter and Easton Hatter and one sister: Mae Bell of Liberty.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents and spouse was four brothers: Ambrose Clark Jr., James Clark, Harold Clark and Clifford Eli Clark and three sisters: Beulah Gay Vaught, Fay Cravens and Emma Clark.

JOHN PRICE

 

John Robert Price, of Liberty, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, February 19, 2026. He was 50 years, 11 months, and 25 days young. 

 

Born on February 25, 1975, in Savannah, Georgia, he was the son of Dr. John and Terry Watson Price of Liberty.  John obtained his B.S. at Lindsey Wilson College and his master’s in education at Georgetown University.  He was working toward his Rank 1 at the time of his passing. John dearly loved his position as science teacher at Mercer County Senior High and his students meant the world to him. Above all, he loved his son and daughter and took great joy in their lives. John was a part of the 1993 Casey County High School state tournament team and played baseball and golf as well.  He was a basketball and little league baseball coach for his son, and coached softball for his daughter.  John loved playing guitar, watching Formula One, riding his four-wheeler and being a special part of his nieces’ and nephews’ lives. Family was everything to him.  John attended Southland Christian Church at the Danville campus and gave his life to Christ at an early age.

 

In addition to his parents, John is survived by two children, Jax and Mia Price; his brother, Jason (Charity) Price of Wilmore; his sister, Kelly Forbes of Liberty; his nieces and nephews, Hogan, Talley, Mae, and Jase Price and Elizabeth, Luca and Elyn Forbes; and his girlfriend, Russelle Ubas of Elizabethtown.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, February 22, 2026, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Marty Shackelford and Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the Casey County Memorial Gardens.

 

Visitation will be held after 6:00PM on Saturday, February 21, 2026, and on Sunday from 10:00AM until the time of the service, both at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

 

Pallbearers will be Jax Price, Jason Price, Hogan Price, Luca Forbes, David Price, and Rodney Neat. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jase Price, John Wesley, Jeff Wesley, Kris Neat, Danny Price and Tommy Rodgers.

SHANNON WILLIAMS

 

Shannon Williams, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Casey County Hospital. She was 66.

 

Born on February 5, 1960, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late James Carroll Rodgers and Joyce Marie Eads. Shannon was a housekeeper at Casey County Hospital. She had a passion for caring for the elderly. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Shannon enjoyed watching auctions on Facebook.

 

She is survived by two daughters, Mandy Vannoy and Bekki Joines; a son, Trinity Joines; two sisters, Kay Lee and Brenda Williamson; and two brothers, Mitchell Eads and Gary Rodgers. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Drekken, Jadelyn, Georgia, Annabeth, and Kai.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Ledia Patten and Cleta Marie Rodgers.

 

The funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip Smallwood officiating.

 

Burial will be held privately at Whited Cemetery.

ROBIN LAWSON

 

Robin “Butter” Lawson, of Dunnville, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Casey County Hospital. He was 60.

 

Born on June 21, 1965, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of  Betty Louise Owens Lawson and the late Henry Clay Lawson. Robin worked in the family business of waste management. He enjoyed trap shooting and fishing.

 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Ricky Lawson and Randy (and Joyce) Lawson, both of Dunnville; nephew, Adam Royston; niece, Tosha Royston; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Hershel Lawhorn officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Thomas Ridge Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

EULA DURHAM

 

Eula Mae Cravens Durham, of Yosemite, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Casey County Hospital. She was 92.

 

Born on August 29, 1933, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Emma Henson Cravens. Eula was a former seamstress. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, flowers, crocheting, and gardening. Above all, Eula loved spending time with her grandchildren.

 

She is survived by a son, Randall (and Mary Frances) Durham of Yosemite; two grandchildren, Maranda (and Ben) Barlow and Sarah (and Daylen) Morris; and three great-grandchildren, River Barlow, Blane Barlow, and Makai Morris.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Clinton Durham, who passed away on August 30, 2006; and three brothers, Lafon “Fonz” Cravens, Leon Cravens, and Clevo Cravens.

 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Haste officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Durham Cemetery.

BILL MONDAY

 

Bill Monday, of Louisville, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at home. He was 35.

 

Born on March 2, 1990, in Louisville, Kentucky, he was a son of Michelle Lee Strange Monday and the late Bradley Monday. Bill was a painter. He enjoyed fishing and playing guitar, kadama, and disc golf. He was very family oriented.

 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Johnathan Monday and Shawn Huizar; a sister, Medea Clark; stepfather, Michael Welch; maternal grandparents, Beverly and Charles Isaac; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that loved him.

 

Bill is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Bill Strange; paternal grandparents, Earl Monday and Brenda Jones; and his uncle, Keith Strange.

 

Cremation rites were honored.

 

SHIRLEY FORTNEY

 

Shirley Lee Miller Fortney, of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Liberty Care and Rehab. She was 89.

 

Born on November 22, 1936, in Georgetown, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Harold Clark Miller and Catherine Louise Thackston. Shirley was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse after thirty years of service in Dandridge and Jefferson City, TN and finished her career at the health department in Dandridge, TN. She was a member of First Baptist Church in White Pine, TN and attended Friends of Faith in Liberty. She loved to cook, crochet, garden, and give more than she received. She had a wonderful sense of humor.

 

She is survived by a daughter, Jyll Lay of Liberty; two sons, Charles Taylor (and Kathy Goode) Lay of Liberty and Robert Lomax (and Kim) Fortney of Bonneau, SC; six grandchildren, Charlie Lay II, Adam (and Mandy) Lay, Bryan (and Stephanie) Morgan, Sarah Cooper, Megan (and Billy) Waalk, and Caleb Fortney;  six great-grandchildren, Eli Lay, Kennedy Morgan, Ainsley Morgan, Easton Cooper, Max Cooper, Kenyon Biggs, and Mallory Waalk; a step great-grandchild, Owen Harbison; and a great-great-grandchild, Bexlynn Briggs.

 

Shirley is preceded in death by her husbands, John Lay and Lomax Fortney; and a son, William David Fortney.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Eric Miller.

 

Burial will follow in Caney Fork Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 12:00PM to 2:00PM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

JOHN SMART III

 

Dr. John R. Smart III, MSPH, D.O., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Christian, and physician, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at Casey County Hospital, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 70 years old. 

 

Born on February 16, 1955, in Boonville, Missouri, John was the son of the late John Robert Smart Jr. and Mildred Louise Smart (Fleer). He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Methodist College, a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Missouri, and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

 

Dr. Smart devoted more than 47 years to the practice of medicine and the care of his patients. Over the course of his distinguished career, he served as Medical Director and primary physician at several hospitals and medical facilities across Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He also served as a Clinical Professor of Family Practice at the Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine, mentoring and shaping future physicians. For the past decade, he faithfully cared for Casey County and the surrounding communities as a family primary care physician at Casey County Primary Care. Known for his compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication to medicine, Dr. Smart made a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues. His many honors included being named Outstanding Alumnus at Central Methodist College and receiving the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He was also a proud member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity. 

 

Beyond his medical career, John found great joy in music. An avid amateur musician and bass guitarist, he performed alongside his wife in their band, Class Act. Music was not only a passion but also a source of relaxation and renewal for him. He was also an enthusiastic collector with a deep appreciation for history and nostalgia. His home reflected his lifelong love of collecting—especially antique board games and Lionel train sets spanning decades. His treasured collections also included nutcrackers, cookie jars, lunch boxes, arrowheads, pinball machines, and many other unique items. He often shared that these collections kept alive the wonder of childhood and brought him immense happiness. In recent years, he frequently spoke of his dream to retire, build elaborate train layouts, and share his beloved collections with his grandchildren. 

 

John is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 48 years, Debra “Debbie” Smart; his children, Kevin (April), Ryan (Kelsey), and Kimberly; and his four cherished grandchildren, Emery, Lainey, Eleanor, and Kade, who lovingly called him “Paca.” He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn McGettigan (Jim); his niece, Carrie Borgman; his brother- and sister-in-law, Barbara and Doug Stiles; and his nephew, Andrew Stiles. 

 

A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held on February 15, 2026, at Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Chapel A, with funeral services following at 2:30 p.m.

 

Burial will take place immediately afterward in the adjoining Southern Oaks Cemetery. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. All other monetary donations can be made HERE and will be donated to the A.T. Still University Osteopathic School of Medicine Scholarship Fund on behalf of the family.

 

MELINDA PEMBERTON

 

Melinda Kay Pemberton, age 57, of, Stanford, KY, passed away on Friday February 6th, 2026, at her residence. She was born June 1st, 1968, in Casey County, KY, a daughter of the late William Albert Luttrell and Ruby Luttrell.

 

Melinda was a former employee of Stanford Nursing Home.

 

Survivors include: Marshall Pemberton, and three brothers: Willard Luttrell of Liberty, Sam Crew of Russell Springs and Phillip Dale McQueary of Russell Springs.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents was four sisters: Sherry Luttrell, Barbara Luttrell, Virginia McQueary and Bessie Vanover and two brothers: Roger Luttrell and John Thomas Luttrell.

 

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday February 11th, 2026, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

BETTY RICHARDS

 

Betty Jane Richards, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at her home. She was 69.

 

Born on February 16, 1956, in Liberty, KY, she was a daughter of the late Otis and Helen B. Price Richards. Betty was an employee with American Greetings in Danville, where she worked for more than 50 years and dearly loved the people she worked with.  She enjoyed cooking, working with her flowers and gardening.  Betty loved the outdoors and her animals.

 

She is survived by a brother, Ricky Richards of Liberty; her nieces, Jennifer Richards and Lisa Buis (and Garryd); her nephew, Byron Humphrey (and Lisa); her great-niece, Hannah Sherrell (and Bradley) and her great-nephews, Kyle Humphrey (and Chelsea Carman) and Rylan Buis; and her great-great nieces and nephews, Hadley Sherrell, Haydon Sherrell and Ellianna Buis.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her companion, Donnie Belcher; a brother, Randy Richards; a sister, Brenda Kaye Richards; and a sister-in-law, Dana Richards.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Casey Davis officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Green River Valley Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday, February 2, 2026, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
