HAZEL SIMS

 

Hazel Marclean Sims age 80, of Yosemite, KY, passed away on Wednesday July 31st, 2024, at the Casey County Hospital.

 

 She was born in Casey County, KY, on May 28th, 1944, to the late Mack and Montie Pearl Salyers Elliott. She was the widow of Robert Sims and a caregiver.

 

Survivors include: one son: Alvin Sims of Huntsville, TN, five siblings: Ethridge Elliott of Liberty, Dennis “Jughead” Elliott of Yosemite, Ronnie and (Nancy) Elliott of Yosemite, Fausteen Elliott of Williamstown, KY and Catherine and (Marion) Absher of Nicholasville.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents and spouse was two children: Calvin Sims and Mary Lou Sims and three brothers: Everett, Howard and Foster Elliott.

 

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday August 3rd, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.  

 

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday August 3rd, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Phillip Patton officiating.

MARVIN LEE

 

Marvin Estill Lee age 91, of Hustonville, KY, passed away on Monday July 29th, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Liberty, KY, on September 25th, 1932, to the late Wil’O and Birdie Mae Turpin Lee.

 

Marvin was the widower of Patricia “Tootsie” Cochran Lee who passed away on September 5th, 2020.

 

Marvin was a self-employed logger.

 

Survivors include: one daughter: Elaine Ford (and the late Bennie Dunham) of Liberty, two sons: Wayne Lee and (Patty Buck) of Hustonville, and Jeff and (Brenda) Lee of Liberty, son- in- law: Tip Brown of Hustonville, Donna Lee of Liberty, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, two brothers: Denver Lee of Indianapolis, IN and Wince Lee of Georgetown and two sisters: Christine Dean of Liberty and Teresa Coffman of Liberty.

 

Preceding him in death besides his parents and spouse was two daughters: Beverly Brown and Deborah Luttrell, two grandsons: Joey Burton and Marvin Lee and eleven siblings: Eva, Dovie, Lorena, Dane, Elna, Mabel, William, Bill, Gay, Bradley and Irene.

 

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. till 9:00 P.M. Thursday August 1st, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.  

 

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday August 2nd, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Wince Lee officiating.

EDITH MOORE

 

Edith Mae Moore age 84, of Nicholasville, KY, passed away on Sunday July 28th, 2024, at the Cedarhurst of Nicholasville.

 

She was born in Liberty, KY, on September 2nd, 1939, to the late Clyde and Elsie Ellen Douglas Wilson.

 

Edith was the widow of Bobby Lee Moore.

 

Edith was a housewife.

 

Survivors include: one son: James Alvie and (Marecia) Moore of Centertown, KY one daughter: Sherry Ellen and (Chris) Redmond of Nicholasville and one sister: Myrtie Jenkins of Liberty.

 

Visitation will be held 12:00 P.M. Thursday August 1st, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

LOUISE REDFORD

 

Louise Redford, of Dunnville, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at UofL Hospital. She was 75.

 

Born on March 30, 1949, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Harlen and Adell Lee Garrett. Louise was formerly a caretaker for thirty-four years at the Galilean Home, where she loved her job working with the children. She was of the Christian faith. Louise enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as cooking and listening to gospel music.

 

She is survived by two sons, Mike (Susan) Garrett of Hustonville and Anthony Redford of Dunnville; two daughters, Angie Redford and Tabitha Cleary, both of Dunnville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn (Buel) McDonald.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roger D. Redford, who passed away on November 14, 1979; two brothers, Robert “Bob” Garrett and Harlen Garrett, Jr.; three sisters, Beulah Miller, Roxie Garrett, and Doris Faye Lee; and a grandson, Josh Luttrell.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Edwards officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Timothy Allan Hafley age 36, of Lexington, KY, passed away on Saturday July 13th, 2024, at the University of KY Medical Center. He was born in Lexington, KY, on March 16th, 1988, to Woodrow Lee Gibbins and Tammy Lynn Hafley Gibbins.

 

Timothy was a horse groomer.

 

Additional Survivors include: three children: Trace Hafley of Georgetown, Ryleigh Hafley and Isaiah Hafley both of Lexington, four brothers: Woodrow Gibbins Jr, Jonathan Gibbins and Chase Gibbins all of Lexington, and Donovan Martin of Harrodsburg and two sisters: Bridany Hafley and Tabitha McKinney both of Lexington.

JOY SIMPSON

 

Joy Jean Konkle Simpson age 53, of Bowling Green, KY, passed away on Saturday July 13th, 2024, at the Hospice House. She was born in Cincinnati, OH, on August 27th, 1970, to the late Damond Jesse Konkle and Lois Jean Coy Konkle.

 

Joy was an employee of Fifth Third Bank.

 

Survivors include: her spouse: George Frank Simpson, three children: Candice and (Mannan) Wallen of Russell Springs, Jeremiah Hunt of Michigan and Hollie Allen of Cincinnati, OH, five grandchildren: Mannan Wallen Jr., Jocelynn Wallen, Gabriel Wallen, Kayden Thompson and Sophia Hunt, nine siblings: twin sister: Joyce Konkle of Cincinnati, Jenny Konkle of Cincinnati, Dana and (Marke) Aube of Tuscon, AZ, Rena and (Tony) Lykins of Richmond, Kelly and (Tony) Zipp of Newport, Carrie Konkle of Cincinnati, Billy Konkle of Somerset, Katie and (Alfonso) Lopez of Somerset and Jordon and (Angela) Konkle of Harrison, OH.

BETTY McCORMICK

 

Betty Sue Hiter McCormick, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, in Corbin, Kentucky. She was 81.

 

Born on October 31, 1942, in Dunnville, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Louis “Louie” Hiter and Lela Beatrice Patton Hiter. Betty was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, farming, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to the flea market.

 

Betty is survived by a son, Kevin (Shirley) McCormick of Liberty; two grandchildren, Steven (Erica) McCormick and Shannon (Paula) Cook; three great-grandchildren, Alex McCormick, Isaac McCormick, and Jayde Cook. Other survivors include a brother, Donnie (and Imogene) Hiter of Huntsville, Alabama; a sister, Theresa  (and Mike) Mandl of Tampa, Florida; close friends, Christine (and Johnny), Julie, and Jessica; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Patton officiating. Cremation rites will follow.

JONATHON LUTTRELL

 

Jonathon Kelly Luttrell, of Liberty, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at his home. He was 57.

 

Born on July 4, 1967, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of Nancy Poff Luttrell and the late James Roy Luttrell. Jonathon never met a stranger and he loved to talk. He was a great welder and he enjoyed fishing.

 

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his twin sons, John Tracy and Travis Allan Luttrell; and his sister, Julie Ann Luttrell.

 

He is survived by sons, Barry (Lindsey) Luttrell of Louisa and Patrick Luttrell of Liberty; daughters, LuAnn Luttrell, Brooklyn Spears Luttrell, Jessica (Cory) Hewitt, and Alyssa Luttrell, all of Liberty; grandchildren, Keidan, Brynna, Evie, Brionna, Johnny, Ariyah, Demarcus, Bryson, Paisley, Colden, Mailee, and Lucas. Other survivors include brothers, Kevin (Donita) Luttrell, Kent (Jennifer) Luttrell, and Joel Luttrell, all of Liberty; and sisters, Angie (Todd) Carman of Liberty, Amanda (Joey) Marples of Liberty, Anissa (Glen) Edwards of Liberty, Alesha (Rob) Hundley of Liberty, and Andita (Joseph) Morgan of Lancaster.

DAVID "DJ" WHITT

 

David “DJ” Joseph Lewis Whitt, of Liberty, went missing on September 19, 2023. He was 20.

 

Born on June 6, 2003, in Danville, Kentucky, he was the son of Angel Nicole (and Michael Taylor) Parton of Liberty and Lewis Edward (and Kristi) Whitt of Liberty. DJ was a welder for Handi-Port. He was an outdoorsman that loved fishing, hunting, animals, music, and spending time with his family and friends.

 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Harley West; two brothers, Bryan West and Bradley Whitt; maternal grandparents, Regina (and Kenneth Patrick) Long and Kristee Parton, all of Liberty; paternal grandfather, Darrell Whitt of Waynesburg; stepsisters, Kaylee Ford and Kira Ford; and stepbrothers, Jakobe Ford and Zayden Taylor. Other survivors include a niece, Davina Jewell Parton; a special friend, Daulton and Wade Phillips; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and additional friends and family members.

 

DJ is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, David Parton; and paternal grandmother, Betty Whitt.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Creech Richardson officiating.

ROSE BUIS

 

Rose White Buis, of Liberty, died Friday, July 5, 2024, at her home.  She was 97.

 

Rose was born October 31, 1926, in Providence, Ky to the late W.W. and Bonnie White.  She graduated from Barrett High School in Henderson, KY and attended college at Western Kentucky University.  After her studies at Western and meeting her future husband, Nathaniel A. Buis, she taught for five years at three different schools, two years at Rheber, two years at Liberty and one year at Middleburg.  Rose later became a part-time agent for State Farm Insurance.

 

Rose was a loyal member of the First Christian Church, where she served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.  She loved to play Bridge and working in her garden.  Rose was an avid UK fan and loved all UK sports, especially basketball. Her love was fueled by the fact that Nathaniel played basketball at UK, 1943-1944, coached under Adolph Rupp.

 

In addition to her parents, W.W. and Bonnie, she is preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel; and two sisters, Sara Knight and Win Childress.

 

Rose is survived by her sons, Michael Buis (and Sheri) of Cynthiana, KY and Greg Buis (and Nancy) of O’Neill, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan and Jennifer; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Martha Poff of Sanford, FL; and several, special nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be at 1:00PM Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at First Christian Church, Liberty, KY with Bro. Greg Humpert and Bro. Bob Mallory officiating.

 

A private burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. 

 

The family will receive friends from 11:00AM to 1:00PM Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the church.

 

Pallbearers will be Jack Prewitt, Brad Wesley, Ronnie Davis, Scott Rousey, Steve Sweeney and Cody Dykes.  Honorary pallbearers will be Debbie Beard, Audrey Rousey, Brenda Carmicle, David & Renee McAnelly, Mark Wolford, Jerry King and her caregivers.

DOLORES MARKUS

 

Dolores Hall Markus, of Liberty, formerly of Boyle County, died Friday, July 5, 2024, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.  She was 85.

 

She was born October 31, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Warren and Edna Coy Hall.

 

Dolores was a retired seamstress with Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and the Goodall Company’s Palm Beach Suit plant. But most of all, she will be remembered as a wonderful caregiver, as she took great care of people. Dolores never met a stranger.

 

Dolores was a member of First Baptist Church of Liberty.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby, Walter, William, Ralph and Earl Hall; and her sisters, Jeanette Lewis and Betty Greene.

 

She is survived by her husband, Steve Markus of Liberty, whom she wed on September 15, 2007; her son, Tim Simpson of Perryville; her daughter, Malinda Raines (and Jeff) of Danville; her stepson, John Markus (and Sandy) of Glasgow; her stepdaughter, Sherry Azelton (and Kerry) of California; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 

Graveside services will be 12:30PM Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.  Bro. Jimmy Brown will officiate.

DALE WETHINGTON

 

Dale Wethington, of Liberty, died Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Baptist Health Lexington.  He was 70.

 

He was born on March 20, 1954, in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Denis Anthony and Mary Helen Hogue Wethington.

 

Dale was a retired plant manager for North Point Training Center, where he was known as “Tiny”. He was owner and operator of Big D’s Transport. Also, Dale was a bricklayer, hod carrier, mowed yards and was a gate hauler. He was a veteran of the KY Air National Guard, a former member of the rescue squad, a former volunteer firefighter and former chief of the Clementsville Fire Department. Dale was a member of the Green River Valley Separate Baptist Church.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Darrell Wethington.

 

Dale is survived by his loving wife, Myra Williams Wethington, whom he wed on June 8, 1974; his children, Joe Wethington (and Sarah Burton) of Liberty, Josh Wethington (and Kim) of Liberty, and Lori Taylor (and Robbie) of Liberty; his sisters, Shirley Wethington of Harrodsburg and Linda Floyd (and Garnett) of Waynesburg; his sister-in-law, Marietta Wethington of Liberty; his grandchildren, Jenna “Tadpole”, Skyler “Skyboy”, Braylon “Nubbin”, Eli “Hoss”, Isabella “Chigger”, Amelia “Popcorn”, Autumn, Easton and Callie Jo; a special niece, Rachel and a host of other nieces and nephews; children by love, Hope, Brian, Joey and Rhonda; grandchildren by love, Shelby, Jarrett, Preston and Harrison; and special friends, Sonny and Amy Henson.

CORRINE RAWLINGS

 

Corrine King Rawlings, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Liberty Care and Rehab. She was 77.

 

Born on February 6, 1947, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Lowell and Hazel Vaught King. Corrine was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and sewing. She had a beautician’s license and enjoyed cosmetology.

 

Corrine is survived by two daughters, Tinna Koons of Liberty and Loretta Lynn of Indiana; two sons, Tony Lynn and Raymond Gillham, both of Liberty; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Earl King and Randy King, both of Casey County.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Elza King, David King, and Glen King; and two sisters, Alma Leverett and Beulah Lynn.

 

Burial will be held privately in King Cemetery.

JANICE DIAL

 

Janice L. Dial age 83, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Saturday July 6th, 2024, at the Casey County Hospital. Born in Casey County April 17th, 1941, to the late Claud A. and Clora Goforth Carmicle.

 

Janice was a caregiver and a former employee of OshKosh.

 

Survivors include: four children: Gary Ray Dial of Liberty, Lisa Gail Dial of Liberty, Randy and (Jamie) Dial of Middleburg and Pamala Dial of Liberty, eight grandchildren: Chase Dial, Ashley Dial, Chris Dial, Josh Dial, April Dial, Corey Dial, Danielle Hundley and Mason Weddle, twelve great grandchildren: Autumn, Khloie, Noah, Natalia, Blake, Lylah, Kensley, Kennedi, Madelyn, Maddux, Mylah and Paisley, five sisters: Claris Branstetter of Hardyville, Rebecca Wheeler of Anderson, IN, Marlene Conner of Mt. Vernon, KY, Maxine and (Alan) Peevler of Berea and Carolyn and (Bradley) Austin of Berea and one brother: Lewis Carmicle of Stanford, KY.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents was one son: Jeffrey Lynn Dial, two sisters: Dora Jean West and Mildred Buis Brown and two brothers: Phillip Carmicle and George Carmicle.

LELA KING

 

Lela Mae Vaught King, of Liberty, died Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Ky.  She was 90.

 

She was born in Casey County, December 23, 1933, to the late Elex and Mamie L. Reed Vaught.  She was a homemaker and loved to cook, sew and do quilting. Lela attended Poplar Grove Baptist Church as a child and later, became a member of First Baptist Church of Liberty.

 

In addition to her parents, Lela is preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda King; a brother, Jack Vaught; and her sister, Irene Lane.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Wyatt Dillon (and David) of Liberty; her grandchildren, Kacey Huffaker (and Chris) of Liberty, Brendan Wyatt (and Crystal) of Liberty and Kalila Wyatt of London, KY; her great-grandchildren, Haven Grace Huffaker, Stephen Wyatt, Pamela Pylant, Beaux Knoblauch, Avery Wooten and Kacey Wooten; her brother, Darrell Vaught of Hustonville; and her sisters, Velma Cochran of Liberty, Shirley Turpin of Indianapolis, IN and Emma Rains (and Don) of Cincinnati, OH.

MARTHA SCOTT

 

Martha Emeline Buck Derringer Scott age 96, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Saturday June 29th, 2024, at the Casey County Hospital. Born in Casey County April 14th, 1928, to John C. Buck and Eva Wright Buck.

 

Martha was a homemaker and a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. She loved and cherished her children and grandchildren.

 

Martha was the widow of Russell Derringer and Herman Wayne Scott.

 

Survivors include: six children: Patricia Statom of Whiteland, IN, Talmadge and (Diana) Derringer of Campbellsville, Connie and (Gary) Posey of Louisville, KY, Terry and (Ann) Derringer of Danville, Karen and (J.C.) Atwood of Liberty and Melissa and (Scot) Clark of Liberty, twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and one sister: Ova West of Nancy.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents and spouses was four sisters: Mary Taylor, Ollie Gibson, Irene Buck and Francis Boggs, four brothers: Onie, Herman, James Riley and Elmes Buck and one nephew: Jimmy Sandusky.

 

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday July 2nd, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.  

 

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday July 2nd, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Dwight Coffman officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Whited Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to  Gideon’s International or Casey County Hospital Auxiliary.
