STEVE OVERSTREET

Steve “Cupcake” Overstreet, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Baptist Health Lexington after a brief illness. He was 51.

Born on August 4, 1970, in Liberty, Steve was the youngest son of the late Ray L. and Nina Russell Overstreet. He was a graduate of Casey County High School and made his living as a truck driver. He had worked most recently as a bull hauler for Vincent Enterprises and Jolly Farms.

Steve had an infectious smile and a warm personality. He was known for his storytelling and often entertained his family with stories from his travels.

He is survived by three brothers, Michael (and Judy) Overstreet of Louisville, Jeff (and Rebecca) Overstreet of Stanford, and Craig (and Marvetta) Overstreet of Liberty; uncles, Larry Anderson of Liberty and Wayne Russell of Danville; nieces, Lacey Edwards, Allison Overstreet, and Andrea Ferriell; nephew, Casey Overstreet; many cousins; and a special friend, Amy Cochran.

Steve was preceded in death by a niece, Haley Catherine Overstreet.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Casey Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

LOIS CARRENDER

Lois Ann Collins Carrender passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at her home at the age of 69.

She was born in Pulaski Co., August 9, 1952; daughter of the late Chester and Mattie Lyttle Collins.

She retired from the Pulaski County Detention Center as a Correction Officer. She loved Show Car's, and playing sports.

Lois was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband, Junior Allen Carrender; sister, Evelyn Ruckle; brothers, Billy Collins, and Chester Collins, Jr.

She is survived by her brother, Douglas & (Nadeen) Collins; sisters, Omia Nell Ison, and Mable Reynolds' sisters-in-law, Linda Dungan, and Mabel Collins. She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.

She was greatly loved, and will be missed.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Sister Jessica Hall and Bro. David Green officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends after 11:00 AM Saturday, April 2, 2022 until time for services.

MARGARET HAFLEY

Margaret "Moogie" Sexton Prather Hafley , daughter of the late Samuel and Mae Doolin Sexton, was born at Ferguson, KY on October 30, 1936 and she departed this life on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022 having attained the age of 85 years. At her passing, she was surrounded by her loving family.
She was first united in marriage to Mr. Ardyth Ray Prather, Sr., he preceded her in death; two children blessed this union; one son, Ardyth Ray Prather, Jr. (and his wife JoAnn) of Science Hill, KY and ; one daughter, Debbie (and Tom) Knecht of Pewee Valley, KY. After the passing of her first husband, she was later united in marriage to Mr. Dallas Hafley. He survives. Other survivors include; four grandchildren, Brandi Prather, Ardyth Ray Prather III, Chastity Welsh (and her husband Adam), and Rachel Shomate; eight great grandchildren, Bennett Tucker, Bryce Tucker, Bradley Tucker, Austin Prather, Adison Welsh, Olivia Welsh, Lucas Shomate, and Reed Shomate; one great great grandchild; Adalyn Prather and two sisters-in-law, Barbara and Fayrene Sexton.
Other than her parents and first husband, she is also preceded in death by the following siblings; three brothers, James, Charles, and Pat Sexton; five sisters, Wanda Persell Marjorie Boone, Stella Holloway, Roberta Newell, and Arlene Schultian and one grandson-in-law, Daniel Shomate.
Margaret was a loving lady who enjoyed life and family, she enjoyed traveling, seeing new places and revisiting old favorites. She was a member of the Ferguson Baptist Church and she also attended the Duke Memorial Baptist Church for many years.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and she leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 1st, 2022 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. James Bartleston and Bro. Shelby Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery.

JOSEPH DIAZ

Joseph "Joe" Gene Diaz, age 61, of Ferguson, KY passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at his home after a long illness.

Joseph was born on June 22, 1960 in Buffalo, New York to the late Jose DeJesus Diaz and Enola (Fisher) and stepfather Chester Bruser. Joe enjoyed hunting, family and friends. He was well known for his mechanical skills and loved to have fun and joke around, he was known as the "Clown" of the party. He will be greatly missed by many.

He is survived by his companion and caregiver of 26 years Diane V. Reynolds of Ferguson, KY,one son; Jeremy (Chantell) Diaz of Somerset, KY, one daughter; Heather Diaz of Buffalo, NY, step children; Troy (Samantha) Reynolds of Eubank, KY, Brynn Reynolds (James Mallaber) Gowanda, NY, Jesse (Corinna) Reynolds of Gowanda, NY,  two brothers; Brian (Norma Jean) Diaz Millville, WV, Mark (Kathy) Diaz of Delevance, NY, one sister; Susan (Donald) Chriss, of Killbuck, NY, grandchildren; Jayden Diaz, Somerset, KY, Adriana Fish, Dayton, NY, step grandchildren; Hunter and Sadie Reynolds of Eubank, KY, Hailey and Emma Haskins, Bryley and Colton Mallaber of Gowanda NY, Bradly Reynolds of Angola, NY, and several other family members; Reinhold "Ron" (Virginia) Rast of Nancy, KY, David (Erika)Davis of Eubank, KY, Donna Rast Brenda Overbey of London, KY as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous family and friends.

Rebecca Lynn VanSickle Randall, age 57, departed this life on Saturday, March 26th, surrounded by family at UK Hospital.

Rebecca was born in Louisa, Kentucky to Dan & Ruth Ann VanSickle on April 14th, 1964. She met the love of her life, Jack, in a tobacco field and married him on May 26th, 1984. Together they had three daughters who were the light of their life. Rebecca has a smile to light up a room, a voice that would carry, and welcoming arms when times got tough. She was a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church, where her love of music shown through each Sunday morning. She was a woman of strong faith with a love of sports, music, family, and strays, whether it be a chipmunk in a box or someone needing a loving home.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Randall.

She is survived by three daughters, all of Somerset; Ruth Ellen Mofield & (Brian), Hannah Glover & (Derrick), and Jacklynn Randall; four grandsons who were her pride and joy, Eli Thomas Ping, Mason Alan Glover, Cameron Jack Ping, and Aiden Jay Glover; her loving parents, Dan and Ruth Ann VanSickle of Louisa, Kentucky, along with three siblings, Danita Elliott & (Terry) of Ashland, KY, Jody VanSickle & (Marla) of Campton, KY, and Jennifer VanSickle & (Susan) of Indianapolis, IN. In addition to many loving nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who were like family to her.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Fellowship United Methodist Church in Shopville with Bro. Jody VanSickle and Bro. Joshua Hampton officiating.

Burial will be in Fellowship Cemetery.

LINDA PRUITT

Linda Sue Ellis Pruitt, 63 of Somerset passed from this life  on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center after a brief illness.

She was born on November 9, 1958 in Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of the late Arthur Ellis and Marybelle Goehler Ellis.  Linda was of the Christian and of the Baptist Faith.  She enjoyed cooking, especially at Thanksgiving time.  Linda was a loving, kindhearted and giving person. In her leisure-time, she could be found collecting memorabilia  and playing “dress up”.  She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a son: Luther Dane “Cisco” Pruitt.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband; Luther V. Pruitt, a daughter; Theresa Stripling and a step-daughter; Angel Genoe both of Somerset, two sons; Luther Vember Garlandios and Andrew (Becky) Garlandios all of Somerset, three brothers; Kenny Ellis and Donald Ellis of Okeechobee, Florida and Jimmy Ellis of Illinois, her grandchildren; Shane Stripling, Hailey Stripling, Rachel Garlandios, Britney Garlandios, Cain Troxell, Ricki Troxell, Christopher Garlandios and Allyssa Coffman, several nieces and nephews and a special niece; Tiffany Isabel as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

In accordance with her wishes Cremation has been chosen and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

THOMAS MCGEEHAN JR.

Thomas Regis McGeehan Jr., 83 of Wilmore, KY formerly of Somerset KY died Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in Lexington, KY. He was born June 4th, 1938 in Montclair, NJ. He is survived by his wife, Sally Waddle McGeehan whom he married August 1981 in San Diego, CA; two daughters , Robin McGeehan Glavaz (Driftwood) of St Louis, MO and Mary McGeehan Beasley (Timothy) of Wilmore, KY. Three grandchildren Harper Noelle Beasley, Thomas Abel Beasley and Timothy Bear Beasley.  Other survivors include a brother, Ralph McGeehan of Tinton Falls, NJ and Julie McGeehan of Lake Como, NJ.  A veteran of the US Marin Corps, he served in Camp Lejeune, NC and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in 1963, with a major in marketing.

During his career, he was associate editor of a national weekly auto racing newspaper in Ridgewood, NJ, a race car fabricator in Wichita, Kansas, and a marketing manager for Halibrand Engineering, a race car parts manufacturer in El Cajon, CA. He was creative marketing manager at Maritz Corporation in St. Louis for 15 years before moving to San Diego.  Eventually settling in Somerset, Kentucky to become a modern renaissance man.

He took pride in his long distance running and the completion of 26 marathons. An avid cyclist and was well known around Somerset for his biking adventures. He was a born-again Christian and A perpetual seeker of knowledge and truth. He took great pride in his family and country.

Visitation will take place at Somerset Undertaking Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 11-1 followed by a service at 1pm  officiated by David Reilly. Burial will be at the Somerset Cemetery following the service.

JOHNNY MOUNCE

Johnny Presley Mounce, age 82, of Somerset, KY passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at his residence.

Johnny was born on February 23, 1940 in Somerset, KY to the late Ottis and Alma Stewart Mounce. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Johnny loved the Lord, his wife, and his family. He was a Kentucky Wildcats fan. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and making peach cobbler.

He is survived by one son, Danny Allen Mounce of Somerset; one daughter, Robin Mounce (Phillip) Harris of Somerset; one brother, Howard Mounce of Cincinnati, OH; two sisters, Bernita Meece of Somerset and Lucille Hargis of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Mounce of who he married on July 29, 1958 in Somerset and she preceded him on November 28, 2016; and his parents, Ottis and Alma Mounce.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Immanuel Baptist Church.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 10:00am at Immanuel Baptist Church with Bro. Ron Shepherd officiating. Burial will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post# 38 Honor Guard.

LOUISE COOPER

Louise Cooper, age 92, of Ferguson, KY passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital.

Louise was born on October 15, 1929 in Pulaski County to the late Reggie and Mattie Smith Childers. She was a faithful member of Ferguson Baptist Church and was retired from Tecumseh Products of Somerset. Louise enjoyed baking, making crafts, sewing and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter.

She is survived by two sons, Frankie (Eva) Cooper of Ferguson and Larry Paul (Cindy) Cooper of Somerset and one granddaughter, Addison Cooper, and many nieces and nephews who will mourn her passing.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frankie Cooper who preceded her on August 15, 2017; an infant brother, Samuel Childers; three brothers, James Childers, John Childers, and Willie Childers; and five sisters, Lois Wilson, Emma Shepherd, Sadie Roberts, Isabell Stringer, and Bessie Shepherd.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Ann “Annie” Marie Girdler-Vanhook, age 17, of Somerset, KY passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022.

Annie was born on August 2, 2004 in Somerset, KY. She attended First Apostolic Church of Somerset. She was a member of the National Honor’s Society. Annie was a brilliant artist and loved animals.

She is survived by her parents, Tim Sr. and Leisa VanHook of Somerset; five brothers, Tim VanHook of Somerset; Chad Worley of Somerset; Jason (Johnna) VanHook of Burnside; James Girdler of Somerset; and Mason Girdler of Somerset; three sisters, Cristy (Jr.) Haynes, Stephanie Girdler; and Paige Girdler all of Somerset; her uncles, Jackie (Linda) McGowan; Junior (Marlene) McGowan, and Jeff (Harriet) McGowan; her aunts, Kay Cummins and Becky Jones; a special niece, Madison Haynes, and a special nephew, Jamison VanHook.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jimmy McGowan, Ann McGowan, Raymond and Wilda VanHook; great-grandparents, Woodrow and Geathel McGowan; and an uncle, Stephen New.

CAROLYN GODBY

Carolyn Sue Russell Godby, age 71, of Somerset, KY passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

Carolyn was born on October 31, 1950 in Somerset, KY to the late Carl and Grace Hood Russell. She attended Tabernacle Pentecostal Ministries. She loved her two Chihuahuas and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol (William) Huckelby; three grandchildren, Kelly Huckelby, Sommer Schoch, and Jessica (Bryan) Miller; four great-grandchildren, Emily Miller, Mia Miller, Bowen Miller, and Julien Huckelby; two sisters, Wilma Galloway and Patricia (Billy) Puckett; and her nieces and nephews, Erica Jones, Eric Kabe, Shawn Galloway, Ron Galloway, Kevin Russell, and Rick Russell.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Grace Hood Russell and Carl and Georgia Hood Russell; paternal grandparents, Willie and Zona Russell; her maternal grandparents, Lonza and Alma Hood; three brothers, William Gerald Russell, Michael Carl Russell, and Kenneth Wayne Russell; one brother-in-law, Mike Galloway; and one sister-in-law, Brenda Russell.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

VERNARD LAFAVERS

Vernard B. LaFavers, age 74, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

Vernard was born on November 17, 1947 in Jabez, KY to the late Oval LaFavers and Maxine Polston LaFavers.  He was a graduate of Nancy High School and Eastern KY University where he had a double major in Philosophy and Political Science.  Vernard loved socializing and politics.  He was of the Baptist faith.  Vernard especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn “Sue” Thomas LaFavers of Somerset of who he married on October 14, 2000 in Jabez, KY; one daughter, Elizabeth (Brian) Warren of Somerset; two step daughters, Traci (Ron) Goff of Somerset and Amber (James) Passmore of Somerset; one step son, Jonathan Barnett of Somerset; one brother, Delvin “Perry” (Debbie) LaFavers of Russell Springs; two grandchildren, Michael (Ashley) Stonecipher of Somerset and Kylie Warren of Somerset; three step grandchildren, MacKenzie Shelton of Somerset, Grace Goff of Somerset and Alexie (Jordan) Flyn of Monticello; one great grandchild, Elliot Stonecipher of Somerset; one step great grandchild, Leo Oliver Keller of Somerset; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his former wife and mother of his daughter, Shirley LaFavers of Somerset.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oval and Maxine LaFavers.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset.

ROBERT SEARS

Robert Frank Sears, 97, of Liberty passed away at his home on Monday, March 28, 2022.  Born December 4, 1924, he was the son of the late Bud and Minnie Reeves Sears.  Robert was also preceded in death by his wife, Lennie Hurst Sears; sisters: Sue, Lily, Ruby, Wanda, Annie, and Edith; and by his brother, Ras.

 

Robert was a US Army veteran and a farmer.  He enjoyed fishing and raising hunting dogs and loved hunting with his sons.

 

Survivors include his three sons:  Randall (Lou) Sears of Somerset, Michael (Ann) Sears of Liberty, and Stewart Sears of Hustonville; five grandchildren:  Bill Sears (Shannon Hudson), Chasity (Raymond) Simpson, Colton Sears, Shannon Hyslop, and Nikki Hartman; two step grandchildren:  Deanna Dukich and Dee Holloway; five great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.

 

Visitation is 2:30-5pm, Sunday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home.  Funeral Service is 11 am, Monday at the funeral home with Bro. Timmy Jones officiating. Burial is at Hustonville Cemetery with Military Honors. 

CLAREL ALLEN

Clarel Allen, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, at the Casey County Hospital in Liberty. She was 92.

Born August 21, 1929, in Hamilton, OH, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Lola Buck Scott. Mrs. Allen was a former seamstress at the sewing factory. She enjoyed babysitting and quilting.

Survivors include her son, Garland (and Shirley) Allen of Liberty; daughters, Berniece (and Bradley) Fair of Campbellsville, Nancy (and William) Shoopman of Liberty, Reece Whited of Campbellsville, and Freida Black of Liberty; brother, Gene (and Gwen) Coffman of Jamestown, IN; sisters, Maxine Murphy of Indianapolis, IN and Brenda Harris of New Whiteland, IN; sister-in-law, Maxine Scott of Liberty; 7 grandchildren, Ryan, Jennifer, Natasha, Shavahn, Kim, Bobbie, and Melissa; 11 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zoie, Emily, Chloe, Collin, Corbyn, Derek, Dustun, Megan, Rachel, and Erika; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Waymon Allen; son, Denny Allen; brother, Clyde Scott; sister, Doris Parlett; sons-in-law, Paul Tarter III, James Allen, and Ron Whited; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Allen; and granddaughter, Debbie Lee.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Friday, March 25, 2022, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey County Memorial Gardens.

KATHY ALLEN

Kathy Sue Allen, 67, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born on May 12, 1954, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Edris and Emmaleen Atwood Allen. Kathy worked at Printing Company, US Playing Card, and Totes, Inc. in Cincinnati, Fruit of the Loom Campbellsville, Liberty Sportswear. She was also a caregiver. She enjoyed reading, watching television, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Kathy is survived by a daughter, Kelly Allen of Liberty; six grandchildren, Jaden, Chris, Nate, Cody, Carly, and Leah; and one great-grandchild, Navado Liston. Other survivors include four sisters, Karen Sanders of Somerset, Sharon (Phillip) Foley of Liberty, Paula Garmany of Cincinnati, and Cheryl Payne of Liberty; three brothers, Steve (Darlene) Allen of Liberty, Donnie Allen of Cincinnati, and Tim (Carol) Allen of Oklahoma; a special friend, Cookie Hendrick; and two aunts, one uncle, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Cameron Cain officiating. Burial will follow in Whited Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Matt Foley, Jason Foley, Dustin Bryant, Patrick Gill, Serena Warfield, and Jessica Tapscott.

ALDIE TRUE JR

Aldie True, Jr., 92, of Liberty, passed from this life March 21, 2022, at home.

Born January 25, 1930, in Casey County, he was the devoted son of Aldie True, SR. and Delora Ethel Atwood True.

He was the beloved husband of Iva Lee Rodgers True, whom he married on March 19, 1950. On Saturday, they celebrated 72 years together with family.

Junior graduated from Liberty High School in 1949 and played on the Liberty Wildcat Basketball Team.

Junior was an electrician and farmer. He owned True’s Electric along with his son, Mike.

Junior continued to be active all of his life whether playing softball, bowling, hunting, volleyball or golf.

His strong belief in quality education led him to serve as a member of the Casey County Board of Education from February 1983-December 2000. He was chairman of the Board from July 1990-December 2000.

He was a member of Antioch Christian Church.

Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, James True, Tom True, Dr. Elmer True, Pearl Sharp, Lula Wilson, Thelma Sweeney, Iva Dean Woodrum and Elizabeth Grider.

Junior was a precious father to Valerie Chaney, Mike True (Judy), and Terry Brackett (Rick).

He was a fun-loving grandfather to Matt True (Jeania), Delora Severance (Chad), Rebecca Perez (Marco), Reed Chaney (Lindsay), Audrey Nichols (Justin) and Kim True.

Junior was an adoring great-grandfather of Olivia Chaney, David Chaney, Itzli Perez, Micheal Wayne Cox, Anna Beth True, Wesley True, Bowen True, Jonah Severance, Bryce Severance, Cooper Nichols and Charlotte Nichols.

He was also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as two sisters-in-law, Dorothy True and Lila Rae True.

If there is a kitchen in Heaven, Junior will be waiting there for the love of his life, Iva Lee, to come join him for a dance.

DENOLA SIMS

Denola Marie "Dee" Sims, 86 of Crab Orchard passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022 at her home. Dee was the wife of the late John Sims who preceded her in death on October 30, 2015. She was born in Casey County on September 6, 1935 to the late Logan and Lydia (May) Salyers. She was a former seamstress for Cowdens Manufacturing. Dee was a faithful member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church and was a friend to many.

Survivors Include her daughter, Crystal Marlowe and a step daughter, Teresa Jones and Step Son John Sims, Jr.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dee was preceded in death by a Sister, Virginia Black and a Step Daughter, Laura Rymer.

A visitation will be held from 4:30pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, March 11th at McKnight Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 8pm on Friday with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating.

VIRGINIA NUNN

Virginia Kathleen (Phillips) Nunn, 98, of Crab Orchard, Kentucky passed away Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Hospital in Danville. She was the widow of Raymond Lee Nunn who preceded her in death on September 17, 2009. Virginia was born in Harlan County on July 29, 1923 to the late Morris and Angie (Payne) Phillips. She was a 1941 graduate of Brodhead High School and had attended Eastern Kentucky University. She had worked as the school secretary at the Brodhead High School for several years until the early 60's when she retired and became a full time homemaker and farmer. Virginia was a faithful member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church and the Adult Women's Sunday School Class. She was an Eastern Star and a Red Hat Society member. She was also a member of a very special group of retired teachers, they called the Thursday Club. According to Virginia, her secret to longevity was Climax Spring water that she enjoyed dearly. To say that her family and friends will miss her greatly is an understatement, Virginia was very well respected and a cherished friend to many people. She never met a stranger and everyone who knew Virginia knew that she was an extremely kind, loving, and gentle person and that she loved her family and friends very much.

Survivors Include her Son, Frankie L. Nunn of Crab Orchard; Two Daughter-in-laws, Linda Parsons of Berea and Janice Parsons of Lexington; Three Grandchildren, Elizabeth (Randy) Cates, Kelly (Julius) Lai and Michael (Kelly) Parsons; Four Great Grandchildren, Kendall and Caroline Lai, Abby and Hunter Parsons; Two Nephews, Byron M. (Peggy) Owens and J. Stephen (Onna Kay) Owens; and two very special friends, Brenda LaFevers and Jean Gentry.

In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth A. Parsons and Jimmy Parsons; First Husband, Wm. Edwin Parsons; Sister, Barbara (C.B.) Owens; Nephew, Phillip Owens; and a Great Grandson, Lucas Parsons

Pallbearers Include: Raymond Eldridge, Paul Barrett, George Crawford, Billy Day, Bobby Turpin and Jimmie Gover

Honorary Pallbearers are the Adult Women's Sunday School Class

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10th from 5:00 until 9:00 PM and after 11:00 am on Friday at Watts Chapel Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 11th at the Watts Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating. Burial will follow at the Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead.

CAROL RANDALL

Carol Ann Randall, 66, left us on March 6th, 2022 with her family by her side at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.  

Carol was born on January 17th, 1956 in Lexington, KY to the late Earl Clift Sr and Grace (Durham) Clift, where she was the youngest of eight children. She attended the public schools of Fayette County and later graduated from Bryan Station High School in 1974. She worked for over 20 years at Northern Middle School and eventually retired as the lunchroom manager.  

She is preceded in death by her parents and all seven of her siblings: Elizabeth “Liz” Richardson, Earl “June” Clift Jr, Herbert Clift, William “Bill” Clift, Lewis Clift, Wayne Clift, and Connie Clift.  

She is survived by her husband, Jackie who she married on April 30th, 1983 and spent the last 39 years by his side and three children: Susan (and Joe) Evans of Falmouth, KY, Jacqueline Renee Randall of Somerset, KY and Harley (and Stephanie) Randall of Somerset, KY. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Haley Renee Randall, Joshua “JJ” Johnson, Anna Grace Blevins, all of Somerset, KY and Kayla and David Burton of Falmouth, KY. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews as well as many friends who will greatly miss her.

It was Carol’s request to be cremated and a service of remembrance will be held at a later date.

WILLIAM CROFF

William “Billy” Preston Croff, 71 of Burnside, Kentucky passed from this life on Friday, March 4, 2022 at his residence.

 

He was born on May 2, 1950 in LaPorte, Indiana, son of the late Stanley Lawrence Croff, Sr., and Della Lou Warmer Croff.  He served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War era Veteran.  He was able to achieve the rank of Captain.  Billy worked in the Lawn Service business for a number of years prior to his retirement.  He was an independent, straight forward type of person.  He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and horses and was an enthusiastic CB Radio operator, known as “Mr. Easy”. Billy was of the Baptist Faith and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

 

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter; Kimberly Smith, a sister; Sally Croff and a grandson; Chevelle Crabtree.

 

He is survived by four daughters; Pam (Douglas) Henderson of Science Hill, Tina (Brian) Moore of Roundhill, Kentucky, Billie (Jeffrey) Turner of Science Hill and Jennifer (Jerald) Brown of LaPorte, Indiana, a brother; Stanley Croff, Jr., of Somerset, several grandchildren; Megan, Mike, Lisa, Courtney, Tyler, Tiffany, Jonathan, Matthew, Aiden, Sam, Sebastian, April, Frankie, Mikayla, Amy, Harley, Robin, William, Shakia and Mauricia, along with his former wife and mother of his children; Phyllis Croff of Somerset as well as other relatives and friends.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00 am at the First Apostolic Church, 118 W. University Drive, Somerset, Kentucky  42503.

VERNELL OGBORN

Vernell Ogborn, 101, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the Norton Audubon Hospital.

 

She was born May 30, 1920 in Casey County, Kentucky; daughter of the late Albert Lane & Flora Belle (Rector) Godbey. She lived he life as a homemaker. She never met a stranger and had many friends.

 

She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and all of her friends in Louisville.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell "Tipp" Ogborn; seven brothers, Roy, Gordon, Clifford, William Earl, John, Robert "Bob" Franklin, and Mitchell "Don" Vernon Godbey; five sisters, Dolly Pearl Godbey, who passed in infancy in 1923, Jewel Godbey-Taylor, Mary Godbey, Pauline Godbey-Burns.

 

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

 

Burial will be in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

HANK JUDGE

Hank JR Judge, 65, of Danville, KY passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Born on March 29, 1956 in Waynesburg, KY to the late Victor and Darlene Staton. Hank worked as a welder for most of his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

 

Survivors include three sons, Donnie Judge (Amanda) of Danville, Tylan Judge and Wyatt Judge of Danville; one daughter, Misty Day of Burgin, KY; three brothers, Jeff Staton, Vince Staton and Patrick Staton; three sisters, Glenda Grogan, Teresa Gilpin and Donna Staton; five grandchildren, Lyndsey Day, Hunter Day, Karigan Mitchel, Madison Judge and Brantley Judge; special friends, Wayne Berry and Jack McNew; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Darlene Staton; two brothers, Ryan Staton and Larry Staton; and the mother of Tylan and Wyatt Judge, Shanna Gail Martin.

ALICE RHOADES

Alice Lee Rhoades, age 84, of Somerset passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

Alice was born on August 25, 1937 in Mt. Carmel, IL to the late Samuel Roe and Margaret Harrison Morrow. Alice enjoyed cooking, working in her flower garden, and listening to gospel music.

 

She is survived by her husband, Arnold Dene Rhoades of Somerset; one daughter, Deborah Kay (Darrell) Flynn of Somerset; two grandchildren, Jayson Flynn, and Joshua (Lynsey) Flynn; four great-grandchildren, Jayzlin Flynn, Jimmy “Cannon” Flynn, Laney Flynn, and Hazel Flynn; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Lee of Somerset; and two brothers, Len (Marilyn) Morrow of Lexington, KY and Thomas (Joann) Morrow of Ashland, KY.

 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Donald Ray Lee; three brothers, Samuel Morrow and two in infancy; and four sisters, Louise Richardson, Myrtie Morrow, Pauline Cook and Francis Tennis.

CLELL TURNER

William “Clell” Turner, age 82, of London, KY, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

Clell was born on October 21, 1939 in Ano, KY to the late Everett and Anna Arthur Turner.  He was married to Shirley Rogers Turner and together they had four children. He was in the lumber industry for many years until he started and operated Clell Turner Saw Mill until retiring in 2017. He was a member of Clifty Grove Baptist Church. Clell loved watching UK football and basketball and boating on Laurel Lake. He also enjoyed camping and fishing with the grandkids. Clell was a Kentucky Colonel.

 

He is survived by his children, Debby (Mike) Taylor of Versailles, Connie (Rob) Floyd of London, Johnny (Kim) Turner of London and Robbie Turner of London; the mother of his children, Shirley Turner of London; two brothers, Buren Turner of Somerset and Vola Turner of London; his grandchildren, Brittany Robinson, Nick Taylor, Tabitha House, Jake Floyd, Caitlynn Iddings, Shan Taylor, Kellen Turner, Logan Turner, Kelsey Rolett and Nicole Turner; his great grandchildren, Lila Floyd, Layla Taylor, Anna Iddings, Hiltyn House, Luke Robinson, Colter Taylor, Eli Floyd, Kingston Taylor, Lane Robinson, Claire Iddings, Hendrix House, Ilyena Taylor, Huxley House, Kalum Turner, Henry Iddings, Quinn Taylor and Honor House; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. 

 

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Delmer Turner and Norris Turner; and one sister, Faye Turner.

JOYCE WESLEY

Joyce A. "Ma Juice" Wesley, daughter of the late Henry and Adele Phillips Pendleton, was born in Wayne County, KY on December 4, 1937 and she departed this life in Somerset, KY on March 6th, 2022 having attained the age of 84 years.


She was united in marriage to Mr. Vernon Wesley. He preceded her in death.


Survivors include; one daughter, Dreama D. (and Scott) Tomlison; three step children, Glenn (and Becky) Wesley of Junction City, KY, Cyndi (and Bill) Wheeler of Somerset, KY and Tami (and Bill) Deaton of Eubank, KY; seven grandchildren, Jamie Godby, Nathan, Jon, and Dusty Wesley, Jessica Wheeler, Joshua Wheeler, and Heidi Bowling; and twelve great grandchildren.


Other than her parents and her husband, Mrs. Wesley was also preceded in death by; a step-son, Gary Wesley and a sister, Betty Stockton.


Joyce, or "Ma Juice", as most people knew her, was a wonderful and fun loving person. She worked for the Pulaski County School District for more than 20 years and retired as a bus driver. She enjoyed her flower Garden, was an avid sports fan that includes any sport. She also was an avid bowler, and loved her Kentucky Wildcats. She adhered to the Baptist faith and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.


A funeral service for Joyce "Ma Juice" Wesley will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 10th 2022 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. David Godby officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Farris Gene McIntosh, age 88 of Middleburg, KY passed away on Friday March 4th, 2022, at his residence. He was born September 1, 1933, in Perry Co., KY, a son of the late Harvey and Jessie Marie Gross McIntosh.

 

Farris was the widower of Vesta Jean York McIntosh.

 

Farris was maintenance man for Holiday Inn.

 

Survivors include: One Sister: Jeanette Duncil of Science Hill, KY.
