LARRY BUIS

 

Larry Buis, age 71, of Yosemite, KY, passed away on Tuesday August 29th, 2023, at his residence. He was born January 30th, 1952, in Danville, KY, a son of the late Etheridge Buis and Mildred Carmicle Buis Brown.

 

Larry was a retired machine tech for TMI and a groundskeeper for the Central KY Ag Center.

 

Survivors include: His Spouse: Connie Gifford Buis, One Daughter: Tina Mae Buis of Liberty, One Son: Larry Jason Buis of Yosemite, Special Granddaughter: Jalie Buis, Two Grandchildren: Hannah Sue Buis and Jason Logan Buis, One Sister: Vickie and (Phil) Williams of Nancy, and a Special Niece: Tammy Marple.

 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by One Daughter: April Dawn Buis.

 

Graveside Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday August 31st, 2023, at the Rich Hill Cemetery. Bro. David Eastham officiating. Burial will be in the Rich Hill Cemetery.

MAE LUTTRELL MEANS

 

Mae Fonneal Luttrell Means, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023, peacefully at home. She was 88.

 

Mae was born January 18, 1935, in Casey Co., KY, daughter of the late James "Bud" Luttrell and Mattie Murphy Godbey. She married the love of her life, Harold "Sonny" Means on June 2, 1952.

 

As a teenager she was a candy striper but devoted the rest of her life being the best wife, mother, and grandmother. She was notorious for keeping everyone in line. She was adored by her family so much she had several grandchildren, nieces and nephews named after her. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and helping her late husband on the farm. 

 

She is survived by her children, Lisa Ratliff of Sandy Hook, Dean (and Belinda) Means of Lexington, and Darrin (and Liz) Means of Liberty; her sisters, Agatha (and Bro. Don) Clark and Betty Bendschneider, both of Liberty, and Maurine Means of Waynesburg; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband; a son, Harold "Kenny" Means; 1 grandchild; 1 great grandchild; and 7 siblings. 

 

Pallbearers will be Johnny Schewe, Dean Means, Jr., Winston Means, Nolan Goode, and Danny Pendleton. 

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Friday, September 1, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Don Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Rich Hill Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00AM until 1:00PM at the funeral home.

SHERRY LUTTRELL

 

Sherry Jo Luttrell, age 59, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Saturday August 26th, 2023, at the Casey County Hospital. She was born July 30th, 1964, in Liberty, KY, a daughter of the late William Albert Luttrell and Ruby Luttrell.

 

Sherry was a social services intake coordinator for the Casey County Hospital.

 

Survivors include: Her Spouse: Anthony E. “Tony” Luttrell, One Daughter: Toni Michelle Luttrell of Liberty, Three Grandchildren: William Tyler Luttrell, Brayden Joseph Brown and Jaxton Tony Brown, One Great Grandchild: RyLynn Jade Luttrell, Four Siblings: Willard Luttrell of Liberty, Melinda Pemberton of Stanford, Sam Crew of Russell Springs, and Phillip Dale McQueary of Russell Springs, and Four Brother in laws: Norman, Larry and Ronnie Luttrell and Marshall Pemberton.

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by Five Siblings: Bessie Franklin Vanover, Virginia McQueary, Barbara Luttrell, Roger Dale Luttrell and John Thomas Luttrell

 

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday August 29th, 2023, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

ARTHUR "AUDIE" McQUEARY

 

Arthur “Audie” McQueary age 72, of Liberty, Kentucky, husband of, Sue McQueary, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at his home.

 

Graveside service will be held Saturday August 26, 2023, at 1:00 pm in the McQueary Cemetery in Casey County. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:30 Saturday at the Rocky Top Church of Christ, near Audie’s home at 2468 Contown Road in Casey County.

 

After the graveside service there will be a celebration of life at the Casey County DAV, 1296 West Highway 70, Liberty, KY 42539 with music, memories, and food.

JEFFERY MEEKS

 

Jeffrey Keith Meeks, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Ky. He was 61.

 

Born September 6, 1961, in Cincinnati, OH, he was a son of the late Arlin Hulon Meeks and Josephine Roberts Meeks. Mr. Meeks was a chemical engineer. He loved his family and friends. He enjoyed visiting with friends and he was a very sociable person. He never met a stranger.

 

Survivors include his son, Daniel Meeks (and Catherine Viox) of Cincinnati; daughter, Katreena Meeks of Cincinnati; granddaughter, Mila Kirby; and his companion, Billie Donegan.

 

There will be a service held at a later date.

FRANKIE POSEY II

 

Frankie Ray Posey II, age 57, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Monday August 21st, 2023. He was born March 12th, 1966, a son of Nancy Ewing Bartle of Liberty and Frankie and (Wilma) Posey of Russell Springs.

 

Additional Survivors include: Three Sons: Frankie Ray Posey III of Liberty, Keegan Seth Posey of Liberty and Jordan Ray Posey of Hustonville, Five Grandchildren and Two Sisters: Beth Posey Haynes of Tampa, FL and Sarah Christian of Liberty.

 

Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday August 26th, 2023, at Liberty United Methodist Church.  

 

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday August 26th, 2023, at Liberty United Methodist Church. Bro. Rodney Koger officiating.

JUANITA WETHINGTON

 

Juanita Wethington of Casey County, KY, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Taylor Regional Hospital. She was 96.

 

Born on June 5, 1927, in Casey Co., KY, she was the daughter of the late Vitus and Elsie Heiston Belton. Juanita formerly worked as an assistant for Dr. Grider. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Juanita was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.  

 

She is survived by her son, Tony (Linda) Wethington; 6 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Oval Wethington; sons, Michael and David Wethington; daughter, Paula Richerson; brothers, Wayne and Wendell Belton; sister, Joyce Hayes: and granddaughter, Marsha.

 

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, August 24, 2023, at St. Bernard Catholic Church with Father Jinto Thomas officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the St. Bernard Cemetery.

BEULAH WILLIAMS

 

Beulah Mae Williams, age 85, of Middleburg, KY, passed away on Sunday August 20th, 2023 at the Liberty Health and Rehab. She was born March 8th, 1938, a daughter of the late Jake and Mae Owens Phillippe.

 

Beulah was the widow of J.C. Williams who passed away on May 25th, 1988.

 

Beulah was a housewife, and loved to piece quilts and work puzzle books.

 

Survivors include: Three Daughters: Debbie and (Chester) Vaughn of Liberty, Donna Faye and (the late Tom Woods) of Waynesburg and Iva and (Keith) Coffman of Kings Mountain, One Stepson: Johnny and (Brenda) Williams of Liberty, Ten Grandchildren: Jason, Tina, Angela, J.C., Mikel, Lisa, Hagen, Adrian, Harley and Zach, Several Great Grandchildren, Several Great-Great Grandchildren and One Sister: Norma Jean Ashely of Eubank, KY.

 

In addition to her parents and spouse she was preceded in death by One Stepdaughter: Glenda Richardson, Two Grandchildren: Wally and Taylor, Three Sisters: Anna Bess Mandell, Gladys Emerson, Orpha Godbey and Three Brothers: Janis, Jesse, and Rev. J.R. Phillippe.

BILL EMERSON

 

Bill Emerson, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Waynesburg Healthcare and Rehab. He was 75.

 

Born on August 17, 1948, in Boyle County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Vertrice and Odra Dick Emerson. Bill retired from Borden Chemical. He was a member of Atwood’s Chapel Church. He enjoyed wagon riding, coon hunting, and carpentry.

 

He is survived by two sons, Chris (Kim) Emerson of Liberty and Randy (Karen) Emerson of Yosemite; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tootie (Danny) Yaden of Liberty and his twin, Phyliss Kay Baxter of Stanford.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Emerson and Floyd Lee Emerson; and a sister, Anna Lou Belle.

 

The funeral service will be held privately for immediate family only.

 

Burial will be held in Salyers Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

MARY HENDRICKSON LAWHORN

 

Mary Elizabeth Hendrickson Lawhorn, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Liberty Care and Rehab. She was 90.

 

Born on May 25, 1933, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Dennie and Blanche Burress Hendrickson. Mary was a secretary for Casey County Schools and a homemaker, as well. She was a member of Liberty First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #30, the DAV Auxiliary, and the Casey Swingers. She enjoyed reading, farming, and raising a garden.

 

She is survived by a son, Tim (Pam) Lawhorn of Liberty; and a daughter, Karen (Mark) Reynolds of Campbellsville.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Russell Lawhorn, who passed away on September 5, 2019; and two brothers, Garland Hendrickson and Morris Hendrickson.

 

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Hershel Lawhorn officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

SHIRLEY COFFMAN THOMPSON

 

Shirley Jean Coffman Thompson, age 81, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Sunday August 13th, 2023 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was born December 3rd, 1941, a daughter of the late Granville C. Coffman and Marie Ellis Coffman.

 

Shirley was a former aide for home health.

 

Shirley was the widow of Frank Thompson.

 

Survivors include: Two Sons: James Waylon Silvers of Liberty and Robert Vincent Silvers and (Whitney Baughman) of Stanford, One Grandson: James Dylan Silvers and (Kayla Miller) of Danville and Two Great Grandchildren: James Oliver Benjamin Silvers and Julie Ophelia Bellamy Silvers.

 

In addition to her parents and spouse she was preceded in death by Three Brothers: Charles G. Marshall Thomas, Raymond Howard and Burl Ellis Coffman and One Sister: Patty E. Coffman.

 

Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Clearview Cemetery. Bro. Kevin Williams officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Clearview Cemetery.

CHELSEA BROWN

 

Chelsea Nicole Brown, age 23, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Thursday August 10th, 2023. She was born March 31st, 2000, in Danville, KY, a daughter of Tina Louise Luttrell Brown of Liberty and Richard Eugene Brown.

 

In addition to her parents, she is also survived by: Maternal Grandparents: Rebecca Wilson and Danny and (Billye) Luttrell all of Liberty, One Sister: Anna Brown of Liberty and One Brother: James Brown of Liberty.

 

Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Wednesday August 16th, 2023, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.  

 

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday August 17th, 2023, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Hershel Lawhorn officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Gum Lick Cemetery.

MADELLE STAFFORD

 

Madelle Lucas Stafford, 89, of Danville, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, in Danville.

 

Born January 8, 1934, she was the daughter of Herman Francis and Zella Mae Lucas.

Throughout her life, Madelle remained a steadfast example of Jesus Christ-like love

towards others. Madelle was a lifelong member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in

Danville, KY and was a devout Christian.

 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Stafford and

two brothers, William (Bill) E. Lucas and Charles Lucas; and two sisters, Ruth Lucas Smith

and Ruby Lucas Floyd and a son, Randall Herman Stafford.

 

Madelle will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. She was a beloved

mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all.

 

Survivors include three children, Michael Stafford (and his wife, Donna) of Danville,

Elaine Stafford of Danville, David Stafford (and his wife, Tish) of McKinney; four

grandchildren, Rebecca Stafford, Jarrod Stafford (and his wife, Olivia), Kevin Stafford,

Tara Stafford Denson (and her husband, Devon); four great-grandchildren, Gracie Lynn

Mink and Emma Kate Mink and Piper Leighann Denson and Owen Blake Denson.

 

Visitation will be on Friday, August 11 from 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M.  at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty, Ky.

 

The funeral service will be officiated by Kyle Stachewicz of Danville at Middleburg Baptist Church in Middleburg, Ky at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 12.

 

Burial will follow in Middleburg Cemetery.

 

WAYNE VANNOY, JR.

 

Wayne Vannoy, Jr. of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Grandview Nursing and Rehab in Campbellsville. He was 91 years old.

 

Junior, as known to family and friends, was born on May 21, 1932, in the Creston area of Casey County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Wayne Vannoy, Sr. and Marie Goode Vannoy.

 

Junior was a retired twenty-one-year veteran of the United States Air Force, enlisting in 1951. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. Junior’s Air Force career took him, Juanita, and their two children to postings in Tennessee, North Carolina, Colorado, Bangkok, Thailand, and Indiana. In Bangkok, he was in a Logistics Unit in support of the Vietnam War. Two unaccompanied tours took him to Bitburg, Germany with a missile unit and Lakenheath, England, with a United States Air Force Fighter Wing. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Air Force never left him.

 

After Air Force retirement in 1973, Junior worked as a security guard at the Veterans Hospital in Lexington, KY, for seven years. Junior was active in the Casey County VFW, DAV, American Legion, and formerly the Casey County Funeral Squad. He attended many parades, Veterans Day Memorials, and other events for many years.

 

Junior enjoyed growing a large garden every year and visiting and helping family and friends. Junior’s unique personality allowed him to make friends everywhere.

 

He is survived by his son, Edward Dwayne “Dee” Vannoy; daughter, Deborah (Geoffrey) Walden; granddaughter, Erin Walden (Brian Solomon); and sister, Inez Cain.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Hilda Juanita Helm Vannoy, whom he wed in 1953; and two brothers, Ronald Vannoy and Dean Vannoy.

 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Blevins officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Cold Springs Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

LEAH GLEEMAN

 

Leah Anna Gleeman, of Dunnville, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Cleveland Clinic. She was 21.

 

Born on September 18, 2001, in Albany, New York, she was the daughter of Steven and Susan Gleeman. Leah had a quiet spirit and a gentle soul. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends, visiting the beach, and listening to music. She loved flowers, especially sunflowers and lilies, and also loved her many animals. Leah graduated from Casey County High School Class of 2021 and went on to attend a culinary arts school. She passed away eleven years later to the date (July 31) of her Grandma Henni, to whom she was very close.

 

In addition to her parents, of Dunnville, Leah is survived by her brother, William Gleeman of Dunnville; a maternal grandmother, Louise “Geema” Wolkis of Florida; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Michael Roethle officiating. Burial will follow in Lawhorn Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
