JIMMY RICHARDSON

 

Jimmy Clark Richardson, 83, entered his rest with the Lord on August 27, 2021 in Junction City, Kentucky. Born November 7, 1937, in Danville to the late Walter Otis and Delma Alice Neikirk Richardson. Clark was a member of the Alum Springs Church of God. He was a member of the USA National Guard for 10 years. Clark retired in 2003 from the Iron Workers Local Union 70 at Duncan Machinery Movers in Lexington after 42 years. Clark loved spending time with his children , his special Hardees friends and mowing his grass. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Thelma Jean Clem Richardson and a brother Eugene Richardson.

He is survived by three children Ricky Clark Richardson of Junction City, Kentucky, Sheila Lynn Richardson of McMinnville, Tennessee; Keith Lee (Maggie) Richardson of Russell Springs, Kentucky, and; a Grandson Jeremy (Catherine) Greene of Russell Springs, Kentucky; a great grandson Preston Greene; a sister Margaret Ann Louderback of Lexington, Kentucky; many friends at Hardee’s and Archies; and a special friend Dixie Carlson.

Funeral Services will be Friday September 3 at 1 p.m. at Stith Funeral Home in Junction City, Kentucky. Visitation will be Thursday September 2, 2021, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 12 p.m. prior to the service on Friday. Memorial Donations are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. LEAH LAWSON

 

Leah Marie (Roberts) Lawson, 77, of Somerset, left this world for Heaven on August 29th, 2021 at Cumberland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on November 16, 1943 to the late Arthur and Alma Roberts and raised on a farm in Faubush, Kentucky. She graduated from Nancy High School. She met the love of her life Rev. Patrick Darrell Lawson and they were married on August 20, 1965. They spent the next 46 years together sharing the love of Christ wherever they went. She enjoyed being with and caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, ceramics, and playing the piano.

 

She is survived by two sons, Steven & (Donna) Lawson of Beech Grove, Indiana, and Keith & (Connie) Lawson of Somerset, Kentucky; two daughters, Becky & (Charlie) Whitaker and Renee & (Mike) Campbell, both of Somerset; two sisters, Mabel & (Claude) Trimble of Nancy and Diana & (Albert) Godbey of Cincinnati, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Savannah Fischer, Steven Lawson, Cody Casada, Sydney Allen, Emily Tarter, Amber Evans Whitaker, Paige Combs, Lexi Thomsen, Miranda Rockwell, Courtney & Emily Campbell; and twelve great-grandchildren, Anastasia Fischer, Brendon Casada, Leah West, Callie & Noah Tarter, Jordan, Everly, & Cash Combs, Madelyn & Fisher Rockwell, Oliver Lockard, & Ivan Jutz.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Darrell Lawson; an infant son, Ricky Darrell Lawson; her parents; a brother, Ray Roberts; and a sister, Lena Roberts. As her health deteriorated she made it clear that she was looking forward to a joyous reunion in Heaven. Although she will be greatly missed by her family, she is waiting for that reunion no more.

 

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Darvie Fenison and Bro. Ed Amundson officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Hudson Weddle Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be after 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

 

SHARON STOGSDILL

 

Sharon Sue Correll Stogsdill , 77, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life Sunday, August 29, 2021 in Somerset.

Sharon was born on August 31,1943 to Hulah and Lillian Correll and was a graduate of The Shopville High School Class of 1963. She was employed by The General Electric factory in Somerset.

She loved to sew, to go camping, to play Rook, as well as shopping and collecting dolls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Hulah and Lillian Dykes Correll, a brother; Evgene Correll, and a sister; Joann ( Marvin) Johnson of California.

She is survived by her her husband of 58 years, Richard Stogsdill, two sisters; Margie Correll and Jane (Gilbert) Edwards. Her daughters; Melissa " Lisa" (Scott) Johnson and Tami (Glen) Norman of Nicholasville, Kentucky, three grand kids; Missy (Ryan) Brotherton , Andrew Correll and Jacob Correll both of Science Hill, Kentucky as well as two great grand kids; Aspen (Jalon ) Glover of Berea, Kentucky and Corbin Brotherton. She also leaves behind a very Special friend of the family; David (Kim) Holcomb.

RODNEY WILSON

 

Rodney Wilson age 51, of Eubank, Kentucky passed from this life Friday, August 27, 2021.  

Rodney was born November 27, 2021 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Ivan Wilson and Norma Barker Wilson. 

He liked to fish, spend time outdoors, but most of all loved the Lord and his family. 

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Norma Wilson and wife, Lois Harrison Wilson. 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Shane Wilson of Somerset; daughters, Brittany Wilson of McKee, Ky; Tiffany Wilson of Somerset; sisters, Tambra Foley of Ohio and Tina Stevens of Eubank.  

Graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery in Crab Orchard, Ky.  

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rodney Wilson Memorial Fund. 

 

JUDY FETTY

 

Judy Laine Fetty age 70 of Eubank, Kentucky.

Proceeded in death by her loving husband Larry Fetty, her children Michael Long and Jason Fetty and her parents Charley and Mabel McCarley.

Beloved Mother of Kenneth (Bridgid) Holloway. Cherished grandmother of Liam and Kiera Holloway and Kimberly (James) Thompson. Great grandmother to Jaydyn, Austyn and Graysyn Thompson.

Survived by her sisters Cathy Proffitt and Shelley Clement and many loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

 

KATHERN DODSON

 

Kathern Lee Dodson, age 86, of Science Hill, KY, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

Kathern was born on January 10, 1935 in Detroit, MI to the late Lewis H. Dodson and Lillian J. Ferguson Dodson. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and painting. Kathern was a Food Service Manager for the Somerset Independent School System. She attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Somerset and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She is survived by a daughter, Jackie L. Barrett of Science Hill, KY; one brother, Eldon L. Dodson; two sisters, M. Jean Dodson of California and V. Elaine Mincey of Somerset; four grandchildren, Jacob Turner-Barrett, Stephen Barrett, Christopher Barrett, and Michael Shawn Barrett; and six great-grandchildren, Hosanna, William, Charity, Dregan, Skylynn, and Raiden Barrett.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul Dodson, Albert Dodson, Clarence Dodson, Noel Dodson, and Phillip Dodson and a sister, Ruth Stogsdill.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 3, 2021 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will follow on Friday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Pastor John Remitera officiating.  Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

 

JUDY ARMACOST

 

Judy Ann Ballou Armacost, age 70, of Burnside, KY passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Judy was born on October 7, 1950 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Robert Eugene Ballou and Kathleen Ann “Kate” Schierloh Ballou.  She worked many years as a Physician’s Assistant for Cumberland Foot & Ankle.  Judy enjoyed crocheting, puzzle books, reading and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Eric (and Sandi) Armacost of Blanchester, OH; five grandchildren, Renee Walker, Brandon Palmer, Kristopher Palmer, Alexis Miller and Cyara Armacost; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert James “Bob” (and Sally) Ballou of Cincinnati, OH and Donald Eugene “Don” Ballou of Burnside, KY; and her longtime-friend, Lanis Cooper of Tateville, KY.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Kathleen Ballou.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will follow on Thursday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Eric Armacost officiating. Burial will be at Blue John Cemetery.

 

JAMES HICKS

James A. “Jimbo” Hicks, age 88, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, at his home.

 

Born September 4, 1932, in Casey County, KY, he was a son of the late Johnnie and Lula Mae Wethington Hicks. Jimbo was a longtime dairy farmer. He enjoyed going to Crocket Trail for breakfast each day with his friends, where he just might do a little horse trading while he was there. He was a member Noel’s Chapel Church of God where he enjoyed Children’s Church. Jimbo enjoyed wagon trail rides, gardening, and cooking.

 

Survivors include his son, Barry (and Rachel) Hicks of Lancaster; daughter, Karen (and the late Randy) Wethington of Liberty; sister, Phyllis Lyons of Campbellsville; his grandchildren, which affectionately called him “PA”, Lyndsay Wethington, Alyssa Hicks, and the late Melanie Dawn Wethington; his great-grandchildren, Gracie and Ryder Wilson and Bo Rodgers; grandson-in-law, John Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives also survive.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, whom he wed on January 29, 1955, Evelyn Virginia Lane Hicks; brothers, Joseph Clement Hicks, William Junior Hicks, and Clifton Dale Hicks; and a sister, Wilma Joyce Hicks.

 

Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Cameron Cain officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the Gum Lick Cemetery.

Jill Rae McNear, age 44 of Liberty, KY passed away on Friday August 27th, 2021, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was born August 2nd, 1977, in Cincinnati, OH, a daughter of Darlene Farris Brown of Liberty and the late Gary “Mushy” Cochran.

HELEN BRACKETT

Helen Wesley Brackett, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Flaget Memorial Hospital, in Bardstown.  She was 92 years of age.

 

Born on December 23, 1928, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Felin and Ida Bratcher Durham.  Helen worked as a nurse for Casey County Hospital for many years.  She was known for her hard work.  Helen loved gardening.

 

She is survived by her children, Dennis Wesley, of Liberty, Yvonne (Charles) Beam, of Bardstown, and Mary Dean, of Stanford; her sister, Faye Carman, of Cincinnati; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

 

Along with her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her first husband, Pallas Wesley; and her second husband, Charles Brackett.

 

Services will be held privately with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating. 

 

Burial will be in Willow Springs Cemetery.

BONNIE EMERSON

Bonnie Jean Emerson, age 83, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021, at Heart to Heart Hospice Center.

 

Born on May 1, 1938, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Herschel Eli Wesley I and Bonnie Ponder Wesley. Bonnie graduated as the valedictorian from Middleburg High School in 1956. She then earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky State College in 1960. After graduation she taught English at Liberty High School. She was also employed as an English teacher in Ohio, CA, and TX. She retired from teaching and became a real estate agent in Fort Worth, TX. She had a successful career with multiple agencies and retired from Coldwell Banker in 2011. Bonnie loved to travel and spend time with her children and grandchildren.

 

Survivors include her sons, Judd (Kathleen) Emerson of Mansfield, TX and Bradley (Amy) Emerson of Lakeland, TN; a daughter, Ellen (Kendal) Ryter of Missoula, Montana; a brother, Herschel Eli (Patsy) Wesley II of Louisville; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Glenn Emerson, who passed away on January 16, 2016; and a brother, Marcus Lee Wesley.

 

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Jessie Wiley officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Willow Springs Cemetery.

GARY BALDOCK

Gary Edward Baldock, of Somerset, formerly of Liberty, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021.  He was 57 years of age.

 

Born on the 4th of July, 1964, in Casey County, he was the son of Paul Edward and Rose Luttrell Baldock.  Gary was a former Deputy Sheriff for Pulaski County, a former Deputy Jailer in Pulaski County and a former constable for both Casey and Pulaski County.  Gary worked for himself for over forty years hauling gates.  He was an avid UK fan who loved his grandkids dearly.

 

He is survived by his mother, Rose, of Liberty; his sons, Chad (Jamie) Baldock, of Hustonville, Brad (Alesha) Baldock, of Liberty, and Matthew (Kari Council) Oakes, of Toledo, Ohio; his daughter, Tiffany (Kyle Wilson) Price, of Somerset; his brothers, Larry (Tracy) Baldock, Greg Baldock, and Tim (Joanie) Baldock, all of Liberty; and his nine grandchildren, Alexia, Colton, Ansleigh, Mylee, Braxton, Brody, Kylee, Aaron and Keira.

Gary is preceded in death by his father, Paul.

 

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, with Bro. Bearl King and Bro. Hershel Lawhorn officiating. 

 

Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.

JACKIE DIXON

 

Jackie Dixon age 77, of Nancy, Kentucky passed from this life Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.  

Jackie was born March 11, 1944 to the late Raymond Couch and Eliza Bailey Couch in Hyden, Kentucky.  

She was a member of Willow Fern Baptist Church in Bulan, Kentucky. Jackie loved to shop, watch soap operas, taking walks and cherished her family. 

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Eliza Couch; son, Glen Randall Dixon; brother, Jimmy Couch.  

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, James Ronald Dixon (Carolyn) of Nancy, Ky; daughters, Karlene Jones (Robert) of Hazard, Ky; Teresa Dixon (Kenny Ledford) of Nancy, Ky; brothers, Tommy Couch of Hyden; Glen Arnold of Middletown, Oh; sister, Billie Jean Baker of Lexington, Ky; grandchildren, Robbie Glen Jones, Matthew Daniel Jones, Shawn Dylan Ledford, Joshua Glen Dixon, Kathlyn Paige Dixon, James Neil Dixon, Tiffany Danielle Turner and Ronald Shane Turner.

MARY CLAXTON

 

Mary Edith Claxton, age 75, of Burnside, KY, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Mary was born on December 25, 1945 in LaFayette, IN to the late Ernest Lee and Katherine Whitlock Wilson. She loved gardening, flowers, her pets, listening to old country music, watching old westerns and listening to it rain.

She is survived by two daughters, Connie Gilmore (Charles Hoke) of Parkers Lake, KY and Sharon Harrison of Burnside, KY; one brother, William Wilson of LaFayette, IN; one sister-in-law Brenda K. Wilson of LaFayette, IN; eleven grandchildren, including Meadow J. Viola, Chelsey Jane Leddon, Joseph Leroy Gilmore, Charles Beckelhimer, Jr., and Cody Jacob Combs, and thirteen great-grandchildren.  

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Randall Claxton, and he preceded her on December 26, 2012; two brothers, Ernest Lee Wilson, Jr. and Timothy Lee Wilson; one sister, Karen Louise Harrison; and two grandsons, Joshua James Harrison and Mark Logan Kennedy.

Burial will be at Bear Creek Overlook in McCreary County with her grandson.

MARY ABELL

Mary Bessie Wethington Abell, of Casey Creek, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, in Campbellsville, Kentucky. She was 93.

 

Born on January 26, 1928, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Thaddeus and Lena Murphy Wethington. Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the DAV. She was known as the dancing queen of Clementsville. She loved her children with a passion and greatly enjoyed traveling to visit them. She also enjoyed hunting. Mary took pride in the fact that she was the very first female bus driver for Adair County Schools.

 

She is survived by five sons, Jessie Garland (Linda) Abell of Campbellsville, David Joseph (Angie) Abell of Knifley, Stanley Eugene Abell of Texas, Robert Emmanuel (Kay) Abell of Liberty, and Paul Wimsatt (Cathy) Abell of Bowling Green; four daughters, Mary Diann (David) Conquest of New York, Janis Louise Turner of Campbellsville, Abbie Catherine (Don) Rose of Colorado, and Sallie Marie (Freddie) Marple of Knifley; twenty-one grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by a brother, Marvin Andrew Wethington of Ohio; and a daughter-in-law, Wanda Abell.

 

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, James Emmanuel Abell; a son, James Rodger Abell; three grandchildren, James Marshall Abell, Mary Catherine Rose, and James Edward Abell; three sisters, Irene Ewing, Martha Mae Campbell, and Exzilda Sanders; and three brothers, William Curtis Wethington, Francis Erich Wethington, her twin brother, Joseph Jessie Wethington; and a son-in-law, Joseph L. Turner.

 

The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at St. Bernard Catholic Church with Father George Otuma officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery. All attending the funeral mass will please meet at the church on Saturday just prior to 10:00.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Friday, August 27, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M.

THOMAS CRUTCHER

Thomas Paul Crutcher, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021, at Liberty Care Center. He was 85.

 

Born on February 9, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Paul Willard and Lula Agnes Borden Crutcher. Tom was a contractor. He was employed by Doss and Horkey for numerous years, as well as San Diego Gas and Electric for several years as a Marketing Representative. Tom enjoyed woodworking.

 

He is survived by three daughters, Wendy (Dale) Knight of Liberty, Doree Heckman of Liberty, and Cindy Cordon of Berea, Ohio; two sons, Tom Crutcher of Moreland and Scott (AdriAne) Carroll of Bonita, California; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Marvine Epp Crutcher, who passed away on May 8, 2018; and two brothers, Kenneth E. Crutcher, Sr. and James L. Crutcher.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Crutcher Cemetery.

HOMER COCHRAN

Homer Paul Cochran, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday August 24, 2021, at Casey County Hospital. He was 41.

 

Born on October 25, 1979, in Henry County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Homer M. and Marion Ford Cochran. Homer worked in the printing industry. He was an avid Louisville Cardinals football and basketball fan. He enjoyed playing video games and hanging out with his great friend, Clint Hamilton.

 

He is survived by three daughters, Joycelyn, Jaylyn, and Ellie; a son, Alvin; a sister, Angela Cochran (Jeff) Farris of Liberty; a half-sister, Jodi Parish of New Castle, IN; and a half-brother, James (Marcy) Parish of Fort Worth, Texas.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a half-brother, John Parish.

 

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, August 27, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Liberty with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Caney Fork Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Friday, August 27, 2021, at First Baptist Church.

JACQUELINE KOHLER

 

Jacqueline Kohler, 84, of Danville, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 in Danville, Kentucky. She was born September 5, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Jack and Hazel Warr.

Jackie was a graduate of Michigan State University.  She was the administrative assistant to the President at Centre College for many years and later at the University of Georgia. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Danville.  Jackie enjoyed playing bridge, reading, crossword puzzles, going to the farmers market, and supporting downtown activities.

Surviving is a daughter, Julie Moser (Randy) of Danville; two sons, John Kohler (Beth) of Lexington and Jeff Kohler (Lori) of Colorado; grandchildren, Matthew Moser, Katelyn Kohler, and Christian Kohler and great grandchildren, Ryan Moser, Jasen Moser, and Benjamin Lyons.

Graveside services will be 1pm Friday, August 27, 2021 at Bellevue Cemetery with Rev. Caroline Kelly officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville.

GLENDAL WYATT

Glendal “Glen” M. Wyatt, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at his home. He was 86.

 

Born on September 6, 1934, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Lee Wayne Wyatt and Lena Ann Mills. Glen retired from Rexnord after twenty-nine years of service in Dolton, Illinois. He was a longtime member of Rheber Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time with family, and just “pottering around.”

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Margie Hardin Wyatt, who he wed on January 28, 1956; four grandchildren, Angela Wyatt of Stanford, Andrea Wyatt of Stanford, Laura (Joseph) Reynolds of Liberty, and Kristen (Daniel Abney) Wyatt of Danville; and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Mace Melton. Other survivors include a daughter-in-law, Jill Smith of Liberty; two sisters, Ines Goforth and Anna Huff; a brother, J.B. (Carolyn) Wyatt of Florida; a sister-in-law, Catherine Davis of Illinois; a brother-in-law, Buford Hardin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Roger Glenn Wyatt;  four brothers, Gene Wyatt, Burl Wyatt, Ewell Stevenson Wyatt, and Charles Wyatt; and four sisters, Betty Burton, Lavonia Helm, Loretta Emerson, and Barbara Johnson.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 27, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

 

Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Casey County Honor Guard.

KENNETH KING

Kenneth Ray King, age 92 of Liberty, KY passed away on Monday August 23rd, 2021, at the Casey County Hospital. He was born November 10th, 1928, in Casey Co. KY, a son of the late Benjamin Harrison King and Pearl Mae Vanoy King.

 

Kenneth was a past owner in Brown Bros. Aluminum, and a truck driver for Murphy Gate and Johnson Gate, U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a Proud member of the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

 

Survivors include: His Spouse: Margaret Stanley Fights King, One Son: Jeffrey Ray and (Vera) King of Kings Mt., KY, One Daughters: Mindy and (Gary) True of Harrodsburg, Six Grandchildren, Three Great Grandchildren and One Sister: Corine Schueler of Mason, OH.

 

Preceding him in death besides his parents was One Son: Gregory Ray King, Five Sisters: Velcie Clements, Beatrice Mills, Ethel Stafford, Ella Fair Mills and Catherine Peavey and Two Brothers: Coy Ancil King and George Wesley King.

SHIRLEY THOMPSON

 

Shirley Dale Thompson, 75, of Eubank, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born June 18, 1946 in Bandy, KY; daughter of the late James and Emma Brown Stevens. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hazeldale Church of Christ. She loved spending time with her family, and attending church with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her, knowing her as one who was a kind and loving person.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold Thompson, whom she married on November 23, 1962; two daughters, Lisa & (Elmer) Presley and Tammy & (Danny) Griffis, both of Somerset; three sisters, Gusta "Sis" Elder of Florence, KY; Juanita McHargue of Indianapolis, IN; Delores McClure of Mt. Vernon, KY; four grandchildren, Devin Presley, Tanner Presley, Megan Presley, Daniel & (Courtney) Griffis; two ladies that were like granddaughters, Samantha Chaney and Brooklyn Chaney; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 6 siblings, Phil Stevens, Geneva "Neve" Elder, Faye Hickman, Marie "Ree" Goff, Beulah Hart, and Jeanette "Jean" Cook.

Ronnie Lee “Bo” Decker, Jr, age 47, of Burnside, KY, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021.

Bo was born on December 19, 1973 in Homestead, FL to Ronnie Decker and Norma Coner Decker.    He loved his church family at Cornerstone Fellowship in Monticello.  Bo enjoyed collecting dolls, was an avid music fan, and especially loved Elvis and Dolly Parton. 

He is survived by his husband, Henry Crabtree of Monticello; his parents, Ronnie (and Norma) Decker of Burnside; brother, Daniel Decker of Burnside; sister, Elizabeth Decker of Burnside; nieces and nephews, Heather (and Craig) Mink of Burnside, Joshua (and Baylee) Johnson of Burnside, Taniel Decker of Burnside, Nathaniel Decker of Burnside, Travis (and Kayla) Crabtree of Monticello, Dustin (and Amanda) Mann of Monticello, Diana Bunch of Monticello, Lyndsey Crabtree of Monticello, Emily Crabtree of Monticello and Chloe Crabtree of Monticello; great nieces and nephews, Kade Johnson, Conner Crabtree, Jason Crabtree, Aaron Mann, Grace Lee Mann, Aubrey Mann, Ali Bunch and Keiran Bunch; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry Lee (and Anita) Crabtree of Monticello; sister-in-law, Deborah Mann of Monticello; brother-in-law, Johnny (and Lilli) Crabtree of Monticello; his adopted family, Geraldine Guffey, TJ Hodges, Laura Carr, Geoff Hodges, Mary Hodges, Melody Smith and many others; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who were like family.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

THELMA GARCIA

 

Thelma Irene Patton Garcia, 84, of Fallbrook, CA and formerly of Columbia, KY died Friday, July 2, 2021 at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, CA.  She was born on March 8, 1937 in Cincinnati, OH to the late William H. and Ethel Brown Patton.  She was also preceded in death by her husband Sgt. Major Don Garcia who was retired from the United State Marine Corps with US Embassy assignments worldwide.   

Thelma was a member of the Egypt Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star and U. S. Embassy Wife’s Club.  She was an entrepreneur and owned her own floral design company, but the joy of her life was being a loving wife to Don and mother to Tom and Tim. 

She is survived by her two sons Thomas Anthony Garcia (Daria) of Fallbrook, CA and Timothy William Garcia of Ashville, NC; three grandchildren Michael, Marina and Marissa; a brother Rev. Paul Patton (Carol) of Columbia, KY; three sisters Helen Meredith (Marvin) of Kingsport, TN, Shirley Hansford (William, deceased) of Liberty, KY and Wanda Frederick (Gary) of Cincinnati, OH; several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive. 

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers Nathaniel Patton and Herman Patton, and three sisters Dorothy Patton, Linda Sue Patton and Hilda Ellis. 

Mrs. Garcia chose cremation and a celebration of life service will be 11:00am Friday, August 27, 2021 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Friday after 10:00am at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

 

ROBERT POPPLEWELL

Robert Irvine Popplewell, age 59 of Rogersville, TN passed away on Thursday August 19th, 2021, at the Vidant Medical Center. He was born September 21st, 1961, in Fuquay Varina, N.C., a son of Lelia Ann Austin Popplewell of Jamestown, KY and the late William Irvin Popplewell.

 

Robert was a business owner and attended The Bridge Baptist Church.

 

Additional Survivors include: His Spouse: Denita Jo Allen Popplewell, Two Sons: Korey Allen Popplewell and (Magen) of Ashville, N.C. and Kodey Austin Popplewell of Rogersville, TN, and One Sister: Regina Popplewell Roy and (Billy).

GARLAND SHARP

Garland Sharp, of Hustonville, formerly of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Danville. He was 72.

 

Born October 23, 1948, in Lincoln Co., KY, he was a son of the late Lewis and Christine Thompson Sharp. Garland spent most of his career working in the banking industry. He was former Vice-President for the Casey County Bank and for the Farmer’s Deposit Bank. He was a current board member and former loan officer for the Monticello Banking Company. Garland was a 61 year active member of the First Baptist Church in Liberty where he did the following: Deacon, Usher, Chairman of the building and grounds committee, Chairman of the pulpit committee, sanctuary class secretary, Judgement House counselor and actor, and even as much as the “sign person” for the Church sign out front. Garland loved his Church and Pastor Jimmy Brown states “Garland was indispensable. He was a pillar of the Church.”

 

Garland was a proud US Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam. He also enjoyed a round of golf with his friends.

 

Survivors include his dear wife whom he wed on April 23, 1969, Patricia Kay Rodgers Sharp; son, Chris (and Jennifer) Sharp of Versailles; daughter, Nikki (and Joe) Dotson of Hustonville; and three grandchildren, Beth, Diana, and Brady.

 

Garland was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carol Gregory.

 

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM Monday, August 23, 2021, at Glenwood Cemetery with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Honor Guard. Visitation will be private.

MILDRED COCHRAN

Mildred Davis Cochran, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021, at the Casey County Hospital. She was 93.

 

 Born May 29, 1928, in Casey County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Coy and Annie Overstreet Davis. Mrs. Cochran was a retired bookkeeper for the Casey County Board of Education. She was a member of the First Church of God in Liberty. Mildred enjoyed quilting, cooking, and crafts.

 

 Survivors include her sons, Steve Cochran and Stacey (and Pamela) Cochran; brother, Larry Davis; sisters, Carol Vaughn and Teresa Combs; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Price Cochran; grandchildren, Amber, Dustin, Ben, Hannah, Matt, and Rebekah; and great-grandchildren, Remi, Zoey, and Henry.

 

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Wendell Cochran; son, Stewart Cochran; brothers, Calvert, Vernon, and Deward Davis; and sisters, Faye Woodrum, Etwell Davis, and Velma Mae Davis.

JAMES YORK

 

James "Jimmy" Ray York, 76, of Eubank, departed this world on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

He was born in Estesburg, Kentucky on August 30, 1944; son of John Tee and Dorothy Calder York.

 

He worked at Louver's and Damper's in Blue Ash, OH for 30 years, and the retiring from Mac Metal in 2019. Jimmy attended Cuba Church of God. He had a love for horses, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Woodstock Masonic Lodge. 

 

He is survived by his children Tonya Michelle & (Joey) Hill of Somerset, and John Anthony York of Science Hill; grandchildren, Joshua & (Katie) Hill, Charles Hill & (Ellie Dykes) both of Somerset, and Emilee York of Bowling Green; brother, Earl "Bee' York, sister, Joyce Atwood; and the mother of his children, Diana York of Somerset.

 

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Tee and Dorothy York; a brother, Bernard York; and a nephew, Gary York.

 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Carson Atwood, and Bro. Dustin York officiating.

Jerry "Big Garland" Anthony Garland, 43, of Somerset formerly of Gray, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center with his wife, Katy, by his side.

He was born in Lexington on April 16, 1978; son of Linda Carter Garland, and the late Jerry Garland. He was a retired Federal Law Enforcement officer, and a 17 year United States Army Combat Veteran. A firm believer in God, he was of the Baptist faith. He loved anything to do with God, Guns, and his Country. He enjoyed fishing on the "Dirty Hooker", and taking vacations of his wife's choosing. Most of all, his favorite thing was being a dad.

He is survived by his wife, Katy Gibson Garland, whom he married on April Fool's Day 2017; his children, Morgan & (Colby) Davis, Macy & (Austin) Garland, Moira & (Justin) Garland, Mikey (Ashtin) Garland, Kollin Garland, Nicholas Hays, Grant Latham, Hannah Noon, Isaac "Captain America" Noon, Stine Tommerstol, Dyllan Keith, and Wheezy Thunder Garland; sister, Jayla Garland; brother, JJ Smith; grandchildren, Ethan Moye, Kynlee Davis, Asher Davis, Leo Smith; niece, Jordynn Scott, Nephews, Jace Scott, Jordan Phelps, Braden Weddle, Charles Shoemaker, Jr.; father-in-law, Danny & (Missy) Gibson; Mother- in- Law, Kim Weddle, Brother-in-law, Chad Shoemaker; sister-in-law, Amy Gibson; grandfather-in-law, CV & (Sandy) Weddle; special friends, Wesley "Jackie" & Kristina Lapp, Ricky & Jessica Lunsford, Nathan & Samantha Keith, Andy & Jenn Denham, Josh & Julia Stringer, Hunter Sumpter, and Holli Edwards; and a host of friends and relatives who loved him so much.

DWAYNE STALEY

 

Thurman “Dwayne” Staley age 57, of Nancy, Kentucky passed from this life Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the VA Hospital in Lexington.  

Dwayne was born February 9, 1964 to Thurman Staley and Imogene Morgan Staley in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church; he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he attained the Rank of Staff Sargent. Dwayne enjoyed fishing and was a member of B.A.S.S. He enjoyed helping others and helping felons at Hearts of Life Recovery; along with a special needs caregiver for adults at Adanta. Dwayne was a G.E. Field Baseball coach, active in football, a substitute teacher and was the neighborhood Santa Claus. He loved his kids and grandkids.  

Dwayne was preceded in death by his father, Thurman Staley.  

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Sharon Staley; mother, Imogene Staley; children, Shonda Brock (George) of Somerset; Chris Staley (Jeana) of Somerset and Josh Tucker (Suzanne) of Ferguson; brother, Rodney Joe Staley of McCreary County; sister, Sandra Manning (David) of Alabama; grandchildren, Nathaniel Brock, Kaitlynn Brock, Aiden Downey, Grayson Harris, Karsynn Brock, Kyndalynn Brock, Leo Vega, Natalya Stewart, Jaxon Staley, Kaden Jackson, Dominic Staley, Serenity Adkins, Alexander Tucker, Jimmy Easterling, Abbi Easterling; great grandchild, Ava Grace Adkins; best friends, Steve Kelley, Randall Warman, Gerald Spradlin and Darrell Staley; 3 special aunts; along with a host of friends and family. 

Visitation will be held Monday, August 23, 2021 from 11 – 1 for friends and public in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 1:00 P.M. with Dr. Harold Brown and Judge Steve Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery.

Helen Irene Coomer Walters, age 78, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Harrodsburg Health Care.

Helen was born on April 12, 1943, in Jabez, KY to the late Willie and Grace Baker Coomer. She was a long time employee of GE, where she worked as a glass inspector. Helen was a former softball player, she enjoyed fishing, traveling, and was an avid fan of U.K. Women’s Basketball and golf.

She is survived by a son, Jerry Walters, of Somerset, KY; one brother, Paul Coomer (Zula), of Berea, KY; and a sister, Pauline Hopper, of Somerset, KY.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Walters; six brothers, Leonard Coomer, Walter Coomer, Herbert Coomer, Clay Coomer, Thomas Coomer, and Jerry Coomer; and four sisters, Kate Coomer, Shirley Burton, Elizabeth Coomer, and Brenda Sue Coomer.

THOMAS BUIS

 

Thomas J. "Tommy" Buis, 78, of Somerset; passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

He was born on June 3, 1943 in Cincinnati, OH; son of Deva Estes Buis and the late Raymond Buis. He worked as a diesel mechanic for a number of years, and operated Tommy Buis Trucking for a number of years. He was an avid guitar player, a meticulous record keeper, a motorcycle enthusiast, and enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed cooking, and taking meals to his mother. He was an excellent diesel mechanic who built a truck from the ground up. He was a member of the Freemasons and the Oleika Shriners for 31 years.

He is survived by his son, Timothy J. Buis; a daughter, Traci Payne; his mother, Deva Estes Buis; a brother, Robert R. "Bob" Buis; two sisters, Cheryl & (James Fred) Hines, and Vicki Buis Newell; four grandchildren, John Thomas Buis & (Angela), Morgan E. Buis & (Johnny Christian), Taylor D. Payne, and Brayden J. Payne; and a great-grandchild, Marley Mae Christian; special neighbors, Tim & Carrie Trabish who looked after and assisted Tommy in the last few months; and a host of nieces and nephews who were special to Tommy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Buis.

CHARLES BROWN

Charles Joseph “C.J.” Brown, age 70 of Lawrenceburg, KY passed away on Monday August 16th, 2021, at U.K. Healthcare. He was born March 16th, 1951, in Casey Co., KY, a son of Doris Unedia Scott Brown of Liberty and the late Charles Washington Brown.

 

C.J. was a retired supervisor at Osram Sylvania.

 

Survivors include: His Spouse: Nancy Elizabeth Lay Brown, Three Children: Angela Marie (Wayne) Hill, Anette Michalle “Tugg” Brown and Charles Junior Brown (Donna Davis) all of Lawrenceburg, Three Grandchildren: Patrick McKennon Brown (Robyn Greer), Cody Allen Maynard (Cami Simpson) and Nancy Lee Ellen Holt (Kurgan Quisenberry), Four Great Grandchildren: Emma and John Thomas Maynard, Hadley McKennon Brown and Archer David Quisenberry and One Brother: Calvin and (Kathy) Brown of Liberty.

 

Preceding her in death besides his father was One Sister: Joyce Cochran and One Brother: Lonnie Clay Brown.

GEORGE BRINKLEY

 

George Brinkley, 89, of Somerset, son of the late Willis Earl Brinkley and Sarah Marie Whitis Brinkley of Mark, Kentucky, was born on December 17, 1931. He peacefully passed away Friday, August 13th, at home, ending an 18-year battle with cancer, in the company of his wife and son.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Justine Carol Brinkley, son David (Jennifer) Brinkley of Bowling Green, sister Glenda Wilson of Somerset , brother Bill (Chris) Brinkley of Mark, sister Wilma “Babe” (Linville) Hughes of Mark, and sister Ella Jane Hasty of Louisville. George also has three grandchildren, Madison Marie Brinkley of Pensacola, Florida, Braden Talmadge Brinkley of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Gauge Lawson Brinkley of Pace, Florida. George is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who will miss him, yet continue to feel his positive influence in their lives.  His wonderful sense of humor brightened the day of all those around him. 

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by twin brothers Bobbie and Joe Brinkley. 

Following high school, George began service in the Korean War effort.  After training at Fort Ord in California, he was stationed in Japan for the United States Army.  After his military service was complete, George began a job in the engineering department at the Kentucky Department of Transportation.  He retired after 38 years of doing a job that he dearly loved.  He frequently told his family that he loved going to work every single day.

After meeting in November of 1955 and having several dates at Finley’s restaurant over a four and a half year period, George married Justine Carol Vanhook at her parent’s home on May 27th, 1960.  Together, George and Justine were blessed with an adopted son, David, on December 13th, 1968.

George was a faithful and servant-oriented member of East Somerset Baptist Church and attended as long as his health permitted.  He truly lived a life to celebrate.  He loved people, whether coaching youth basketball or teaching three year-olds in Sunday school.  He spoke to everyone, whether he knew them or not, often adding that it doesn’t cost anyone anything to speak.  His heart was made of pure gold and was willing to help anyone in need. He took pride in his home, his lawn, and especially his flowers.  His character pushed him to always want to look nice and usually added that if your shoes didn’t look good, you didn’t look good.  A devout Christian, husband, and father, he was a role model for family love.  He was dedicated to every aspect of his family’s life and often supported his son and grandchildren whenever he was able.

Funeral arrangements for George Brinkley are with Pulaski Funeral Home. 

Visitation will be held Wednesday morning, August 18th from 10am-Noon ET at East Somerset Baptist Church at 345 Pumphouse Road, Somerset. 

The service will follow visitation at Noon, also at East Somerset Baptist Church officiated by David Pendley and Rev. Darvie Fenison. 

Masks will be required for entry to visitation or funeral.  A private burial will follow later that day. NATHANIEL HITCHCOCK

 

Nathaniel Rodriguez Hitchcock, age 16, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Nathaniel was born on August 1, 2005 in Somerset, KY to Marcus Hitchcock and the late Chaskia Burdine. He was a student at Southwestern High School. Nathaniel enjoyed fishing, cliff jumping into Lake Cumberland, boating, and riding his 4-wheeler.

He is survived by his father, Marcus Hitchcock of Somerset; his guardians, Kelley and Donnie Helton of Somerset; a sister, Nina Hitchcock of Somerset; his grandparents, Brenda Polson of Somerset; Connie of Lexington; Teresa (and Steve) Flynn of Somerset and Larry Burdine of Somerset; two brothers, Stephen Helton of Somerset and Donnie Helton II of Somerset; his uncles, Chad (and Niki) Glover of Ferguson; Billy (and Kendra) Davis of Somerset; Larry Dale Dalton of Somerset and Shane (and Elsie) Davis of Ferguson; his aunts, Billie Jean Burdine of Somerset; April Gooch of Somerset and Kota (and Larry) Absher of Somerset,  his special cousins and best friends; Josh Davis of Ferguson, Mason Davis of Tateville, Gunner and Katelyn Gooch of Somerset, Mashaylynn Glover of Somerset, Peyton Glover of Somerset and Keegan Glover of Somerset; and many other family and friends who mourn his passing.

Nathaniel was preceded in death by his mother, Chaskia Burdine; a brother, “Bubby” Davis; a sister, Connie Sullivan, and his grandparents, Donald and Charlotte Davis and Lee Rodriguez.

JOHNNY EMERSON

 

John “Johnny” Emerson, of Hustonville, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Landmark of Lancaster. He was 82.

Born on August 29, 1938, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Chester Emerson and Ona Roberts Waddle.  Johnny retired from O.P.W. Systems.  He loved traveling and working outdoors.  Johnny was an avid reader and was a collector of books, arrowheads, guns and coins.

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Van Hook, of Danville; his step-son, Timothy Pendergraft, of Hustonville; his grandson, Cody Van Hook (Abby), of Richmond; great-grandson, Connor Van Hook, of Tennessee; his significant other, LaVerne Russell, of Hustonville; and two nieces, Wilma Hall (C.B.), of Newport, Tennessee, and Norma Tranquill (Paul), of California.

Along with his parents, Johnny is preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Louise Carter Emerson, who passed away on November 4, 2000; his brothers, Pete Emerson and Donald Emerson; and his sister, Wilma Emerson.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Spaw Cemetery.

DAVID MILES

 

David Miles, of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Louisville Manor. He was 82.

Born on June 12, 1939, in Barnesville, Ohio, he was the son of the late George and Isabelle Gibson Miles. David attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and retired from Smith-Kline Clinical Labs after forty years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his flower beds.

David is survived by his wife, Gay Watson Miles, who he wed on September 30, 1978; a stepson, Tim (Joyce) Goodlett of Liberty; two granddaughters, Amy (Kevin) Luley of Lexington and Mindy (Kyle) Allen of Liberty; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson and Connor Allen of Liberty and Hunter and Noah Luley of Lexington.

The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Patrick Dolan officiating. Burial will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Southern Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

 

MARTHA CALDWELL

 

Martha Susan Caldwell, also affectionately known as Sudie Creech age 92, passed from this life Tuesday, August 10, 2021 in Somerset, Kentucky.
She was born November 21, 1928 in Laurel County to Enoch B. Creech and Blanche Setser Creech. Martha was Joined in marriage to Virgil Wilk Caldwell on March 26, 1946 in Laurel County, Kentucky. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Clifty Grove Baptist Church.

She was Preceded in death by her parents and Spouse; two children; Virgil Glenn Caldwell who died in infancy and Lois Mounce of Somerset as well as brothers; Glenn Creech, Harold Creech, Art Creech, Arlan Creech, and Russell Creech and one sister Edna Creech. She was also preceded in death by her daughter in law Trish Caldwell and a son in law Paul Mink.

Martha leaves behind to mourn her passing her children; Lena Mink Pryor of Monticello, Larry Caldwell, Tony & (Melissa) Caldwell, Bernetta & (Morris) Walker and Billie & (Ray) Claunch all of Somerset, Ten grandchildren; Tina Mink, Tanya & (G.W.) Coffey both of Monticello, Joshua & (Sara) Mounce of Eubank, Jacob & (Katelyn) Mounce, Tyler Caldwell, Cortney Caldwell, David & (Kayla) Caldwell, Caleb & (McKayla) Walker, Macie & (Tory) Kidd and Katelyn Claunch all of Somerset, as well as a son in law L.E. Mounce. In addition, Martha leaves behind a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her greatly.

Visitation will be held at Pulaski Funeral Home Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with funeral services Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home.

DARLENE HADLEY

 

Darlene June Hadley, 61 of Somerset, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born in Bronston, Kentucky on May 4,1960; daughter of the late Fred E. Haynes and Elaine Suzanne Haynes Lamb. She was preceded by her parents and her brother, Frank M. Haynes.

Darlene is survived by her two sons, Richard (Myra) of Stanton, Kentucky and Joe (Mary) Coe of Middlesboro, Kentucky and five grandchildren, R.J., Caleb, Abby, Olivia and Harper. One sister; Margie (Garner) Bell of Burnside. Two brothers, Fred (Cathy) Haynes of Somerset and Porter (Angie) Haynes of Somerset. Also her sister in law, Beverly Haynes and stepfather "Papa" Don Lamb, as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Darlene went to Burnside High School and attended Lindsey Wilson College. She enjoyed country and gospel music, the outdoors, flower gardening, cooking and making candy. She loved to watch both the Kentucky Wildcats basketball and football teams and the NFL Greenbay Packers. She loved her family and friends and will be missed by all who loved her.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 16 at 1:00 P.M. at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Ramsey officiating.

JANET WOODALL

 

Mrs. Janet Brinson Woodall, 86, stepped over into glory and is now dancing on the clouds with Jesus on August 8, 2021 in Somerset, Kentucky. She was born on January 25, 1935, In White Lilly, Pulaski County, Kentucky to parents, the late Willie and Nannie Meece Brinson.

She is survived by one brother, Pete and Joan Brinson and two sons, Gary and Pamela Richards- Woodall and Joseph Woodall all of Somerset. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Jonathan and Crystal of Joplin, Missouri. Veronica Reynolds of Somerset, Kentucky and Garianna and Josh Bray, Erin Woodall and Wesley Gregory of Somerset, Kentucky and sixteen great grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews whom she loved.

Janet was a life- long member of Piney Grove Baptist Church #1. She loved being outside working in her garden or flowers. As long as she was able she'd go outside with her walker and rake leaves. In her later years she kept her hand busy by making quilt tops. She enjoyed watching and singing along with the Gaither's on television.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arlin " Jack" Woodall, her parents; Willie Enoch and Nannie Florence Meece Brinson; as well as her brothers Ernest, Arnold, Carvel, Leo, Alonzo, Garland who was her twin, Starland and her sister, Margaret Hall.

Viewing will be Friday, August 13, 2021 between 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Pulaski Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Pine Thicket Cemetery.

JACK RICHARDSON

 

Howard C. “Jack” Richardson, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Casey County Hospital. He was 86.

Born on August 30, 1934, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late McKinley and Oma Yaden Richardson. Jack was a truck driver. He was a member at Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. He enjoyed hanging out and having breakfast at McDonald’s and The Village Restaurant. Jack served his country as a United States Marine.

He is survived by a daughter, Ronda (Kevin) Childress of Liberty; a sister, Nancy Thomas of Russell County; two grandchildren, Tim and Allan; and five great-grandchildren, Carly, Whitley, Colton, Annistyn, and Cason.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Ramona Kay Richardson; his first wife, Lucille Henson Richardson; and his second wife, Beth DeRossett Richardson; and a host of brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Monday, August 16, 2021, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Bro. Johnny Maupin officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

 

DANIEL DICK

 

Daniel Eric Dick, 72, of Science Hill, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at his residence.

 

He was born in Magnum, Kentucky on January 12, 1949; son of the late Robert Hershel and Winnie Marie Pitman Dick. He was a Brick Mason until his retirement. He was a member of King Bee Baptist Church. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Wallace Dick; a daughter, Kimberly & (Robert) Stephens; a son, William Joseph & (Stephanie) Dick; two step sons, Tony Whiles, and Stacy Whiles; three sisters, Vivian & (Andrew) Cook, Karen & (Hobert) Haggard, and Melissa & (John) Blair; six grandchildren, Erica Dick, Rhianna Dick, Caleb Dick, Ryan Denton, Shantel Dykes, and Harley Whiles; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Helen Dick.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Martin Dick, Orrin Dick. 

 

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of V.A., Lifeline, and Hospice of Lake Cumberland.  

 

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Friday, August 13, 2021 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

 

Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.

MARK HEATH

 

Mark Allen Heath, 61, of Somerset, passed from this life on Monday, August 9, 2021 at his home in the Cedar Grove Community after a courageous battle for his life.

He was born on December 7, 1959 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, son of Marty M. Ellison Heath and the late Theodore Heath.  Mark was a 1979 graduate of Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne.  He was a self-employed Marine Mechanic and won the friendship of many in the Pulaski County area.  He was also a former log home builder with his dad.  Mark was a hardworking, loving and devoted son, husband, father and grandfather with a heart of love and kindness.  Before his illness, he enjoyed playing games, water skiing, racing his boats and snowmobiles.  He also enjoyed listening to “John Boy & Billy”, being at the lake and of course his career as a Marine Mechanic.  Perhaps his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.  He was of the Christian Faith and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Along with his father; Theodore Heath, he is preceded in death by a brother; Daniel Heath and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife; Marti Koch Heath, whom he married on September 1, 1979 in Fort Wayne, Indiana they have enjoyed 41 years of marriage together. He is also survived by His mother; Marty M. Heath of Somerset, three children; Jessica (Mark) King of Strunk, Kentucky, Brandon (Erica) Heath of Bronston and Erika (David) Hall of Somerset, two sisters; Linda (Frank) Hunt of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Rose Kimbrell of Alaska, his grandchildren; Piper Heath, Rylan and Nolan Hall, Annabelle, Kinsley and Carly King, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relative and friends.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Minton Cemetery.  The Pallbearers will be Brandon Heath, David Hall, Scott Heath, Bobby Goff, Luke Durham and Frank Hunt. 

 

KASSIE NICHOLAS

 

Kassie Gail Nicholas age 33, took her last breath this side of eternity at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN on Saturday, August 7, 2021. 

Kassie was born August 2, 1988 in Somerset, KY to Sheila Carrender Browell (step-father, Bill) and the late Garry Nicholas.  

Kassie leaves behind to cherish her memory, many friends and loved ones. Included are her mother and stepfather; her 2 sons, Kenyean Dewayne and Keilin Damarcus Holts of Somerset; 3 brothers, Anthony Nicholas (Kelly), Steven Nicholas, and Tyler Browell, all of Somerset; 1 sister, Kristy Nicole Nicholas of Somerset; 2 nieces, Kaitlyn Murphy and Lexi Nicholas of Somerset; the father of her sons, Kenneth Holts and his daughters, Kayli and Asia of Somerset; paternal grandparents of her sons, Jimmie and Mary Goggins. Kassie was preceded in death by her father; paternal grandparents, Gola and Beulah Nicholas; maternal grandparents, Robert Carrender and Margaret Decker Carrender (Ben Neal); uncles, Larry and Roger Nicholas and Joe Carrender; aunts, Millie and Sandy Nicholas and JoAnne.  

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 P.M. burial will follow in Grave Hill Cemetery.

JAMES PROPES

James R. Propes, of Dunnville, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was 77.

 

Born on August 4, 1944, in Adair County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late James Welby and Mary Frances Bryant Propes. James was a guard at Tarter Gate, a diesel mechanic, insurance salesman, hotel manager, hauled gates, and even owned his own fishing store. Above all of these, he was a proud, loyal, and dedicated firefighter. As #306 at Dunnville Fire Department he served as engineer, treasurer, and board member. He was also #1516 at Evona Fire Department where he also served as a board member. James loved hunting and fishing. He was a Kentucky Colonel.

 

He is survived by three daughters, Shirley (Stewart) Carlton of Madison, Alabama, Sherry (Anthony) Roberts of Windsor, and Susan (Gordon) Wilkerson of Dunnville; his longtime companion, Janet Helm of Dunnville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and twenty-one step great-grandchildren. Other survivors include three sisters, Carol Owens of Dunnville, Sharon Lee of Lawrenceburg, and Neva Woods of Lawrenceburg.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Margie Ann Lay.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Patton officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Mr. Propes’ family requests that all in attendance please wear a mask to the visitation and funeral.

SUSIE HAMILTON

 

Susie Ann Hamilton, 72, passed away, Friday, August 6, 2021 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mount Vernon.

 

She was born in Pond Ridge, Kentucky on November 19, 1948; daughter of the late Arnold and Dorothy Caudill Sims. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse, a homemaker and a Ky Colonel.

 

She is survived by her sons, Richard Lee Hamilton of Waynesburg, and James Arnold Hamilton of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Shirley & (Paul) Childers of Waynesburg; two brothers, Sherrill & (Deborah) Sims of Crab Orchard, and Stevie & (Diane) Sims of Wall Town; a grandchild, Morgan Presley of Lawrenceburg. 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Hamilton; and her parents.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

CHARLES RITTER

Charles Robert “Charlie” Ritter, age 68, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville, KY.

 

Charles was born on January 14, 1953 in Somerset, KY to the late Charles Raymond Ritter and Bonnie Rose Simpson Phelps. He was formerly of Somerset, KY and attended Somerset High School.  Charlie was a resident of Liberty, KY for the last 32 years. He was the owner and face of Gun and Gold Pawn Shop for many years.  In his younger years Charlie loved to drag race, play cards and body build.  He was well loved and will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

 

He is survived by his children; Jason (and Stephanie) Ritter of Richmond, KY, Jamie (and Rob) Jones of Somerset, KY and Charley Shea (and Matt) Melson of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, Jeff (and Melody) Phelps of Somerset, KY and Billy “Boo” (and Jeanette) Phelps of Somerset; two sisters, Sara Jean (and Rick) Girdler of Somerset, KY and Donna Ritter of GA; a sister-in-law, Lori Phelps; one grandchild, Mason Pendleton; one great-grandchild, Wrenley Pendleton; and many nieces and nephews including a very special niece and caregiver, Kagen Richards.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Raymond Ritter, his mother, Bonnie Rose Simpson Phelps; his stepfather, Gerald “E” Phelps, a very special grandmother, Ida Simpson; and one brother, Lewis “Tee” Phelps.

CHARLENE REYNOLDS

Charlene Kay (Ledford) Reynolds, 67 of Waynesburg passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. 

 

 Charlene was the loving wife of David E. Reynolds whom she married in January of 1972.  She was born on October 13, 1953 in Waynesburg to the late Oney "Jughead" Ledford, Jr. and Hazel (Simpson) Ledford. 

 

Charlene was a retired employee for the Lincoln County School Board having held many positions. She was a former Library and attendance clerk for the Lincoln County Middle School, a former kindergarten teacher assistant at Highland Elementary, and also a teacher and office assistant at Broughtontown Elementary. Charlene also held many positions outside of the school system as well, she managed her and her husband's Lawn Mower shop and was also a vender at the Lake Cumberland Flea Market in Somerset.  She enjoyed quilting and making silk flower arrangements in her spare time.  Charlene was a loving wife, mother, mamaw and a wonderful friend to many.

FRANCES JACOBS

 

Frances A. Jacobs, age 87, of Somerset, KY passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Frances was born in Covington,  KY on July 28, 1934 to the late Charles Jenkins and Mary Adams Jenkins.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Rev. C E Jacobs; her parents; and a sister, Martha Jane Jenkins, who died in infancy.

 

She is survived by her three daughters, Kathy (Eddie) Griffin of Somerset, Sue (Jerry) Claunch of Somerset, and Jeanette (Virgil) Parker of Campbellsville; five grandchildren, Alison Griffin, Evan (Alison) Claunch, Adam (Amy) Griffin, Zach Parker, and Abi (Thomas) Waldrupe; six great-children, Ashley Griffin, Addyson Griffin, Ayden Griffin, Alex Norton, Natalie Claunch, and Anniston Claunch; one sister, Betty Jenkins Sturgill; and many nieces and nephews.

 

She was a member of High Street Baptist Church in Somerset and a homemaker. 

 

She enjoyed arts and crafts, playing games, and working puzzles. She treasured time spent with her family and loved to reminisce by telling stories and sharing memories. She also enjoyed nature, especially birds, butterflies, and flowers. She had the gift of becoming friends with every dog she met. 

 

Much of her adult life was spent raising children and supporting her husband throughout the entirety of his pastoral ministry at several churches in Kentucky and Ohio.  Their longest service was 24 years at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Somerset.

 

Frances was fun, loving, feisty, and a wonderful person. She was Fran. She was Mom.  She was Momaw.  She was loved.

 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Morris Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, KY, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 P.M., with Bro. David Muse officiating. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law Eddie Griffin, Jerry Claunch, and Virgil Parker, and grandsons Evan Claunch, Adam Griffin, and Zach Parker.

 

Burial will be in Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Waynesburg, KY. 

 

BILL HAMILTON

 

William Lee “Bill” Hamilton, age 64, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Bill was born on July 24, 1957 in Somerset, KY to the late Glen Robert Hamilton and Betty Faye Shelley Hamilton. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Somerset.  Bill was known as a high school and college athlete, in both baseball and soccer. In 1974, he was part of Somerset High School’s baseball team that won the school’s first State Championship in the modern era. Bill was a former SHS and PCHS Head Soccer coach and former Somersport Soccer coach.  In 2003, he led the girls’ soccer team to four consecutive winning seasons. He helped start the swimming (Hurricanes) and archery program at SHS. He was one of the greatest cheer dads of his time. More importantly, he raised two great kids as a single father and was always willing to help people when he could and did without any wanted recognition.  He would try and help support all three schools in a variety of ways, helping their clubs or organizations.  Bill was a true philanthropist in Pulaski County.  He may not have always agreed with you but he was always honest. 

He is survived by a son, William Samuel Hamilton and his wife, Samantha, and their son, Cody of Portsmouth, VA; a daughter, Tesa Gabrielle Hamilton of Louisville; a nephew, Lucas Hamilton and his wife, Caroline of Knoxville, TN; one great-niece, Mary Stewart Hamilton; a great-nephew, Hank Hamilton; and a special friend who was like a daughter, Angie Davis of Somerset;

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents; and one brother, Robert “Bobby” Hamilton and a sister, Glenda Faye Hamilton.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 3:00pm until 6:00pm at First Baptist Church.                 

A Memorial service will follow on Saturday at 6:00pm at First Baptist Church. Refreshments and snacks will be provided at The Bridge of the church following the service.

ALLEN HODGE

Allen Lee Hodge, 66, of Parksville passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.  Born May 6, 1955, he was the son of the late Hulon and Viola Hodge.

 

He had worked at Mcgill’s Manufacturing for many years as a machinist. He had attended Bethel Ridge Methodist church.  He loved collecting case knives, guns and old coins as well as spending time with family an browsing antique malls.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Shawn Hodge; Sisters, Elizabeth Trosper, Nadine Warren, and Hazel Mosley.

 

He is survived by his companion Linda Hodge as well as his siblings: Billy Hodge of Somerset, Jerry Hodge of Stanford; Sarah (Gary) VanGorden, Betty Adams of Stanford; Alberta (Fred) Lawson of Lafayette IN; Wilma (Warren) Harness of Danville IN, Mary Slone of Stanford, Josephine (Bobby) West of Nancy KY and June Hodge of Stanford. He was also survived one son Brian Hodge of Monticello IN and two grandchildren Emmalie Hodge & Megan Hodge Both of Monticello IN as well as one great grandchild River Hodge.

CARROLL DICK

 

Carroll Dexter Dick, 87, of Science Hill, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at the Veranda Gardens in Cincinnati.

 

He was born May 14, 1934 in Pulaski County, Kentucky; son of the late Beecher Elseworth & Annie (Wiles) Dick. He was an employee of Tecumseh and a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife, Mabel Dick; a son, Tim & (Misty) Dick of Eubank; three daughters, Jan & (Rocky) Hendricks of Science Hill, Connie & (Randy) Childers of Georgetown, and Tammy & (J.D.) Gibson of Somerset; three brothers, Junior "Jiggs" & (Carol) Dick, Joey Lee & (Kathy) Dick, and Dennis "Mink" & (Linda) Dick, all of Somerset; a sister, Mathel & (Doyle) Cooper of Lancaster; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by a son, Jeff Dick; two brothers, John "Dub" & Darrell Dick; and a grandson, Justin Dick.

JAMES MOUNCE

 

James Irvin Mounce, age 83, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

James was born on January 2, 1938 in Dykes, KY to the late Irvin Mounce and Pauline Meece Mounce.  He was a member and deacon at Union Baptist Church.  He loved hunting, fishing, boating, traveling and vacations. 

He is survived by his wife, Gathel Ping Mounce of Somerset, KY whom he married on October 1, 2005 in Somerset, KY; one daughter, Robin Mounce of Somerset, KY; three sons, Sterling Jay (and Diana) Mounce of Stanford, KY, Vincent (and Sherrie) Mounce of Exeter, NE and James Allen Mounce of Florence, KY; his step children, Sharon (and John) Sloan of Versailles, KY, Roger Meece of Somerset, KY, David Meece of Frankfort, KY, Rich (and Gerri) Meece of Somerset, KY, and Jerry Meece of Somerset, KY; three sisters, Betty Smith of Rushville, IN, Regina (and Roger) Chaney of Somerset, KY and Elaine (and Sig) Baker of Somerset, KY; eighteen grandchildren, Scottie Medlock, Lindsey Lefever, James Andrew Mounce, Holly Noel Mounce, Gracie Mounce, Amanda Holbrooke, Brandon Holbrooke, Nathaniel Meece, Chris Meece, Autumn Rosser, Alysa Meece, Benjamin Meece, Brooke Patterson, Kylie Meece, Taylor Meece, Jonathon Mounce, Katarina Mounce and Clarissa Chesnutt; several great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Gary Mounce, John Mounce, Donald Mounce, Russell Mounce and Roy Lynn Mounce; one sister, Wilma Burdine; and his former wives, Bobbie Jean Mounce and Zena Lillian Mounce. 

Visitation will be on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Meece and Bro. Tim Ogle officiating.  Burial will be at Providence Cemetery.

Jensen Allen Van Hook, age 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob and Kaytlin Van Hook departed this life July 31, 2021.

Charlotte Deanna Sears, age 74 of Somerset Kentucky passed from this life on August 2nd, 2021 in Lexington Kentucky. She was born to the late John Henry and Estelle Wells in Somerset Kentucky on June 3rd, 1947. 

Charlotte was of Baptist faith and a member of Wesleys Chapel. She like to read and cook. She loved to listen to gospel music, enjoyed her road trips and cherished her family.  

Along with her parents Charlotte is preceded in death by her son, Nigel Thompson Sears; granddaughter, Cheryl Burdine; great grandchild, Cate and Cade Gregory, and two Burdine infants.   

She has left to cherish her memory, her husband of 58 years, Stanley Ray Sears; daughters, Jeanetta (Greg) Burdine of Pine Knot Kentucky, Rhonda Sears of Somerset Kentucky; brother, Jesse (Vesta) Wells of Somerset Kentucky; grandchildren, Nathan Pryor Burdine, Honey Dortch, Addie Massey, Dallas Massey, Jackie and Abe Gregory, Matthew and Tiffany Burdine, Jenny and Ashley Mullins, Daniel Burdine, Lee Burdine, Thomas Burdine, Gerald (Kat) Gruen, Jordan Burdine, Rachel Burdine, Brooklyn Pryor Burdine; great grandchildren, Cole Gregory, Cori Gregory, Colton Burdine, Lorelai Burdine; and two fur grandbabies, Lovey Lucy and Naomi.

Krysta Kay Sizemore age 67, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 

Krysta was born May 12, 1954 to John O. Jasper and Sylvia Daulton Jasper in Somerset, Kentucky.  

She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed hiking, ATV riding, camping, fishing, the outdoors; spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

Krysta was preceded in death by her father, John O. Jasper and nephew, John Justin Gregory. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her mother, Sylvia Jasper; her husband, Bob Sizemore whom she married on December 31, 2014 in Somerset, KY; daughters, Angela Faith Jasper (Randall) of Metamora, IN; Tiffany Shadoan (Joshua Zachary) of Somerset, KY; Erica Jasper (Matt Vaught) of Somerset, KY; step daughter, Pamela Marie Schmid (Tracey) of Brookeville, IN; stepsons, Robert Lee Sizemore (Megan) of Batesville, IN; Mitchell Wayne Sizemore (Christie) of Milford, OH; sisters, Beverly Jasper of Ft. BERTHA HARGIS

 

Bertha Hargis, 76, of Somerset, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

She was born in Hyden, Kentucky on October 11, 1944; daughter of the late William Silas Parnell and Rachel Crawford. She worked for many years, and helped to build The Neighborhood in Somerset following her retirement from Palm Beach where she was a very strong and active Union Steward. She was a huge UK Wildcat fan, was a big fan of Bill Elliott and NASCAR Racing. She enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, The Young & The Restless, Golden Girls, and watching FOX News around the clock.

She is survived by her sister, Doshia & (J.E.) Phelps; step-brother, Carl & (Mary) Alexander; two brothers-in-law, Noel Hargis, and Ralph Taylor; a daughter-in-law, Patricia & (Mike) Turpin; nieces and nephews, Jeff & (Anna) Mize, Angi & (Brad) Speer, Brian & (Nancy) Hargis, Clark Hargis, Fred & (Heather) Phelps, Ricky Allen & (Kelly) Taylor, Galen Taylor, Nicholas Alexander, Francis & (Leroy) Goens, Shiela Kay & (Darrin) Padgett, Dennis Counts, and David Bruce & (Barb) Nelson; twelve great nieces and great nephews; nine great-great-nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Chris Tilley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Hargis; a son, Norman Richard Hargis; her parents; two half-sisters, Lois Jean Taylor, and Ritha Ricker; and a step-sister, Edith Cannon.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Clyde Strunk officiating.

Entombment will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

FLOYD DURHAM

 

Floyd Durham age 86, of Science Hill, Kentucky passed from this life Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center.  

Floyd was born January 26, 1935 in Ragged Ridge, Kentucky to the late Carlos Durham and Jennie Perkins Durham. 

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Science Hill; loved to fish for crappie, work, tend his garden, build and remodel. 

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlene Hatter Durham; brothers, Garry Durham, Ulysses Durham, Elwood Durham and Cloyd Durham. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sons, Denny Durham (Ann) of Independence, Ky and Robby Durham (Sharon) of Science Hill, KY; brother, Carroll Durham (Marilyn) of Cedar Grove, KY; grandchildren, Andrew Durham and Arica Bushnell (Derek) and great-granddaughter, Madalin Bushnell.

Christopher Lewis age 30, of Burnside, Kentucky passed from this life Saturday, July 31, 2021 at his home. 

Christopher was born April 17, 1991 to Rodney Wheet and Lizzie Lewis in Somerset, Kentucky. 

He like to collect Indian artifacts and arrowheads. He loved to fish and cherished his family. 

Christopher was survived by his father, Rodney Wheet of Somerset, Ky; mother, Lizzie Lewis of Oklahoma; brother, Jonathon Lewis of Somerset; sister, Courtnee Wheet of Somerset and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.  

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Bro. Lowell Gossett officiating, burial will follow at Grave Hill Cemetery.

BARBARA GREGORY

 

Barbara Jean Gregory, age 82 of Bronston Kentucky passed from this life on July 30th, 2021. She was born October 24th, 1938 to the late Joe Kurtis and Emma Roberts in Stearns Kentucky. 

Barbara was a member of the Bronston Baptist Church and worked at the grill at Woodson Bend. She graduated from McCreary County High School with the class of 1957. 

Along with her parents Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, James H. Gregory; her siblings, Kathleen, Nellie, Hobert, Clara, Roosevelt, June, David and Jack.  

She has left behind to cherish her memory her sons, Joe (Rita) Gregory of Burnside Kentucky, Steve Gregory of San Diego California; daughter, Tammy (Jerry) Johnson-Dick of Lancaster Kentucky; grandchildren, Bliss Cece (Dan), Lyndsey, Taylor; great grandchildren, Kyndall, Addy, Raylan (on the way, arriving in November); and a host of friends and family members.   

Visitation will be held at Southern Oaks Funeral Home Wednesday August 4th, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Funeral will follow at 1:00 P.M.

BERNICE WATSON

 

Bernice Watson, age 83 of Somerset KY passed from this life on July 30th 2021. She was born June 19th 1938 in Monticello KY to the late Addie and Maymie Coffey Tuggle.

Bernice was of Baptist faith and a member of the Barnesburg Baptist Church for 20 years. She enjoyed to cook, shop and get dolled up at the beauty shop. She was a true lady that cherished her family.

Along with her parents, Bernice is preceded in death by her son, William Timothy (Tim) Watson; brothers, Eugene Tuggle, Arvis Tuggle, Roylee Tuggle, Carlos Tuggle and sister Lula Coffey.

She has left to cherish her memory, her husband, William (Paul) Watson; sons, Tracy (May) Watson of Georgia, Jason (Angela) Watson of Somerset; brothers, Claude Tuggle of Louisville, Darrell Tuggle of Indiana; sisters Betty Perdue of Indiana, Reda Denney of Waynesburg; and grandchildren, Kylie Watson, William Christian Watson, Paul Anthony Watson, Brad Watson, Marion Michael Watson, and Aribelle Watson.

GLENNA LANE

 

Glenna Sue Lane, age 64, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at UK Hospital in Lexington.

Glenna was born on September 11, 1956 in Burnetta, KY to the late James L. Cain and Freda Beshears Cain.  She loved spending time with her children, brothers, grandchildren and one great granddaughter.  Glenna was a member and loved attending Oak Hill Baptist Church.  She also enjoyed shopping and going out to eat with her family. 

She is survived by a son, Joshua (and Tabitha) Leach of Somerset; a daughter, Penny (and Robert) Long of Somerset; two brothers, Steve Cain of Somerset and J.C. (and Jamie) Cain of Somerset; six grandchildren, Autumn (and Geoff) Wallace, Jacob Long, Kambry Leach, Caleb Leach, Isabella Leach and Lily Leach; one great granddaughter, Millie Wallace, all from Somerset; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents James and Freda Cain.

Her funeral service will follow on Thursday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Phelps officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Chris Cain, Stephen Cain, J.C. Cain, Martin Johnson, Colton Cain and Joshua Leach.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Oak Hill Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Glenna Lane.  

 

ROBERTA PHILLIPS

Roberta Lane Phillips, age 82, of Stanford, Kentucky, died on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.  Born Sunday, May 14, 1939, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Milford Lee & Ruby Crawford Lane, and the widow of the late Wheeler “OO” Phillips, whom she married Saturday, December 24, 1955, and preceded her in death Thursday, August 16, 2007.  Roberta worked for 23 years, at Cowden’s in Stanford, was a cashier at Food Lion for many years, and worked at other various places throughout her life.  She was a faithful member of Freedom Baptist Church.  Roberta was an excellent cook, loved working puzzle books and jigsaw puzzles, enjoyed reading and writing poetry, in her spare time.  She will always be remembered for loving to help anyone in need, anytime that she could.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Roberta was preceded in death by one son, Rocky Phillips; seven brothers, Cloyd, Earl Franklin, Billy, Lewis “Buster”, Timothy, Don “Dude”, Clell Lane; three sisters, Elizabeth “Monkey” Morrison, Janet Douglas, and Nellie Means; and a special niece, Betty James.

 

Roberta is survived by two sons, Jayme (Crystal) and Rodman Phillips; 6 grandchildren, Kevin (LaShawna), Dustin (Mary), Tabitha, Kayla (Shane), Street, and Jestie Phillips; 10 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Chloe, Brett, Gage, Cruz, Graven, Pierce, Jace, Raelyn Lea Jade Basham, and Jarek Reagen Lane Phillips (due soon); one daughter-in-law, Paula Phillips; and several nieces and nephews, and other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.

 

A Public Visitation will be held 6-9PM Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Fox & Friend Funeral Home.

 

A Public Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the funeral home.  Bro. Jeremy Pope, Jayme Phillips, and Rodman Phillips will officiate the service.  The Funeral Service will be live streamed on Fox & Friend Funeral Home’s Facebook page. 

 

Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.  Street Phillips, Kevin Phillips, Jestie Phillips, Kayla Northern, Roger Means, and Greg Means will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Members of Roberta’s Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
