ARLIS CARMICLE

Arlis David Carmicle, age 1 year, 5 months and 16 days of Liberty, KY, passed away on Monday May 30th, 2022, at the Casey County Hospital. He was born December 14th, 2020, in Stanford, KY, a son of William Tyler and Kerrighan Lee Loyall Carmicle.

Additional Survivors include: One Sister: Braylynn Michelle Gooch of Liberty, Grandparents: David and (Angie) Carmicle of Liberty, Tina Loyall and (Troy Scott) of Hustonville and Denise and (Mike) Draime of Harrodsburg, Great Grandparents: Peggy Spellman of Liberty, Delton and (Joan) Coppage of Liberty and Mike Cochran of Hustonville and several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Thursday June 2nd, 2022, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday June 3rd, 2022, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Edward Parton officiating. Burial will be in the Caney Fork   Cemetery.

JAMES TURPEN

Mr. James Lee “Turp” Turpen, 84, of Barbourville, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 29, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.  He was the son of the late Orville and Lola Garner Turpen born on May 22, 1938 at Nancy.

James was a former appliance repairman, a Free and Accepted Mason, a member of the Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington and a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church.  He faithfully served his country in the United States Army. James enjoyed watching NASCAR, was an avid UK sports fan, visiting Jack’s Stop and Go, running around with his best friend, Bev Helton, spending time with his family, but most especially loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up.

On February 13, 1993, he united in marriage with Laura Hammons Mills.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Turpen and great granddaughter, Presley James Doolin.

Survivors include his loving wife, Laura Turpen of Barbourville; two children, Heather Shelton and husband, Sherman, of Georgetown and Belinda Clark and husband, Glenn, of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Maggie Roy and husband, Paul, of Nancy; a brother, Howard Turpen and wife, Liz, of Nancy; brothers-in-law, Lyman Alexander of Danville and Jimmy Alexander and wife, Elmeta, of Somerset; grandchildren, Michael Doolin and wife, Kendra, Dakota Doolin and wife, Lindsay, Chloe, Micah and Joanna Belle Shelton; great grandchildren, Samuel, Shepherd, Sterling and Silas Doolin; several nieces and nephews; dear friend, Les Brown; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, June 2 at 7 P.M. with Rev. Jared Styles and Greg Helton officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Clay Hill Cemetery in Pulaski County Friday, June 3 at 11 A.M. with military funeral honors.

Casket bearers will be Glenn Clark, Sherman Shelton, Michael Doolin, Dakota Doolin, Micah Shelton and Terrill Roy.  Serving as honorary bearers will be Les Brown, Joey Turpen and Barry Turpen.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday after 5 P.M. until the funeral hour and at the cemetery Friday prior to the service time.

SYLVIA ALSIP

Sylvia Jean Horton Alsip, age 84, of Butler, KY passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at her home.

She was born on November 12, 1937 in Highbridge, KY to the late John Horton and Alma McLaughlin Horton.  She was a Clerk at Biggs Department Store for many years.  Sylvia enjoyed sewing and quilting in her spare time.  She was very proud of her homemade coleslaw that everyone loved.  Sylvia especially loved spending time with her family.   

She is survived by her children, Darrell Wayne Spencer of Los Alamitos, CA, Alan Dale Spencer of Erlanger, KY, Debora (and Phillip) Holland of Ocala, FL; James Jackson Alsip II (and Lisa) of Erlanger, KY; Douglas Wayne (and Tina) of Cincinnati, OH; Sharon (and Tommy) Chen of Japan; and Jacqueline (and Tony) Yracheta of Reno, NV; one sister, Dorothy Alsip of Butler, KY; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jack” Alsip, whom she married on March 25, 1971 in Las Vegas, NV and he preceded her on April 24, 2022; and one grandson, David Wayne Spencer.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will follow on Saturday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Phelps officiating.  Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery.

JOHN MCGEHEE

John Patrick McGehee, age 56, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life Monday, May 23, 2022 in Dayton, Ohio. 

John was born July 5, 1965 to James McGehee and Madie Dean in San Diego, California. 

He loved to read his Bible, ride motorcycles, spend time with his family, listen to music and drive semi trucks.  

John was preceded in death by his father, James McGehee, brothers, Stanley and Randy McGehee.  

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother, Madie (Richard) Spence of Fayetteville, AR; his fiance’, Judy Hicken of Somerset, Ky; children, Elijah McGehee (Keshon Salley) of Fayetteville, AR; Tonya Wages of Springdale, AR; Carrie Scot and Keith Stills both of Pea Ridge, AR; Emily Hicken and Kristan Clark both of Somerset, Ky; sisters, Gloria (Ben) Rogers of Lincoln, AR; Kathy McCool of Fayetteville, AR; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 from 10:30 to 11 A.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Private family funeral service will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be in White Lily Cemetery.

ELIZABETH DICK

Elizabeth Dick, age 63, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life Monday, May 23, 2022. 

Elizabeth was born August 17, 1958 to Joe T. Wolf and Majeska Nevels Wolf in Marion, Indiana. 

She was of the Baptist faith and she enjoyed fishing, four wheeling and tending to her chickens. She loved to camp and cherished her family and “Duke” her furbaby. 

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her family, Joe and Majeska Wolf, brother, David Wolf and son-in-law, Dave Berkemeier. 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 43 years, Chester Dick; daughters, Majeska Meadows of Somerset; Mary (Billy) Bubnick of Eubank, Ky; son, Chester Jr. (Regina) Dick of Nancy, Ky; brother, William “Bill” (Shirl) Wolf of Glasgow, Ky; sisters, Cindy Wolf of SC and Brenda Wolf-Harness of Lexington, Ky; grandchildren, Billie Leann Bubnick, Karissa Dick, Christopher Dick, Austin Bubnick, Lillie Meadows and Isaac Meadows.  

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 12 to 2 P.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 2 P.M. Burial will follow in the Southern Oaks Cemetery. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Elizabeth Dick. 

PAUL LANGDON

Paul Duwayne Langdon, age 53, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life Sunday, May 22, 2022 at UK Bluegrass Hospice Center in Lexington. 

Paul was born April 1, 1969 to Marion Langdon and Regina Nicholas Langdon in Pulaski County, Kentucky. 

He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed wood working, arrow head collecting and making, he loved his dog, “Dean”. 

Paul leaves behind to cherish his memory, his parents, Marion and Regina Langdon; son, Vincent Langdon of Nancy, Ky; brother, Eric Langdon of Sloans Valley, Ky; girlfriend, Kim Langdon; special niece, Erica Langdon of Somerset; step-grandson, Nathan Nantz; along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.  

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 10 A.M .to 11 A.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Paul Duwayne Langdon. 

KENNETH FISCHER

Kenneth Wayne Fischer, age 75, of Somerset, KY passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Kenneth was born on October 20, 1946 in Chicago, IL to the Late Walter “Wally” and Evelyn Chervis Fischer. He was a Pipe Fitter for Local Union 597 and enjoyed house boating, cars, car shows, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Kidder Fischer of Somerset, KY; his children, Kenneth Fischer of Chicago, IL; Andrea Fischer (Scottye) Williams of Paducah, KY; Lisa Fischer of Melrose Park, IL; Kelly (Matt) Brunsman of San Deigo, CA; Kimberly Ramsey of Somerset, KY; Scott (Julie) Wright of Somerset, KY; three brothers, David Fischer of Lake Bluff, IL; Glen Fischer of Melrose Park, and Kurt Fischer of Melrose Park, IL; three sisters, Gail (Vernon) Lewis of Glen Ellyn, IL; Pam (Bob) Arnold of Glen Ellyn, IL; and Lourdes (Dexter) Wilde of Alaska; and eight grandchildren, Dylan Fischer, Nathan Fischer, Anthony Selvaggio, Adrianna Selvaggio, Morgan Wright, Evan Ramsey, Zane Brunsman, and Keene Brunsman.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Wally and Evelyn Fischer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held by the family at a later date.

LUTHER FLYNN

Luther Flynn passed away at home from cancer, at the age of 90,surrounded by family.
He was born in Nancy, Kentucky , one of ten Children, to Luther Flynn Sr. and Ada Stacy Flynn.

Luther proudly served in the Marine Corps for two years and in the United States Air Force for 21 years. He served as a Marine Helicopter Crew Chief in Korea, sometimes rescuing downed pilots, often at great personal risk. In the Air Force, Lou was a Jet Engine Mechanic and then a Machinist. he retired in 1979 as Senior Master Sergeant in charge of the Flight- Line machine Shop at Travis Air Force Base.

Luther then worked for several local oil refineries as a private contractor. The last five years of his career, he worked at Jelly Belly Candy in Fairfield, California, a job he really enjoyed.

In retirement Lou volunteered for the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery Honor guard for five years. He served as Commander of the Vacaville Disabled American Veterans. He was a board member of the Paradise Cove Homeowners Association for many years.
Luther was a devoted family man who exemplified the very best as a husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years Carol, five children, Seven grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren,and three great-greats.

Luther was a laid back guy with a great sense of humor who loved camping, motorcycles, hot rod cars, tinkering in his garage,travel and any activities involving family. He was always happy to lend someone a tool. the challenge would be to find that tool in his well-stocked, but disorganized, garage. He was a great friend to many He will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life service will be held at Norfleet Cemetery Friday, May 27, 2022 at 12:00 PM. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 38 with Clarence Floyd of Post 38 to officiate.

PAUL MEECE

Paul Meece, 87, Passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

He was Born in Somerset, Kentucky, July 25,1934 to Harvey and Betty (Phelps) Meece.
He was united in marriage to Lois Faye (Mayfield) Meece in 1954,to this union was born two sons.

Paul is survived by his two sons; Paul Douglas (Karen) Meece I and Harvey Todd (Shelia) Meece, as well as six grandchildren, Paul Douglas Meece II, Amanda Faye (Meece) Isacc, Whitney (Boo) Fletcher, Jake (Brittany) Meece, Kylie (Rolando) Flores and Nick (Jaclyn) Meece, eight great-grandchildren; Lucy, Simon and Calvin Fletcher, Brooks and Jade Meece, Parker Flores, Story Ann and Sable Jane Isaac, He also leaves a special friend, Joyce Young.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Mason Meece and Betty B. (Phelps ) Meece and his wife Lois Faye (Mayfield ) Meece.

A private funeral Service will be held at Pulaski Funereal Home on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, with burial to follow in the White Lilly Church Cemetery.

MARY LOVELESS

Mary Jane Loveless, 75, of Somerset, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Jean Waddle Care Center.

She was born August 12, 1946 in Louisville; daughter of the late Parker & Violet (Panter) Adams. Mary attended Eubank Baptist Church and loved her church family. She was a true witness sharing the word of Jesus. She was saved many many years ago on her back porch doing laundry on an old wringer washer. She loved to share her testimony of that day.

Mary and her daughter Kim had their own business for 25 years hanging wallpaper for residential and commercial properties, including banks and boats. She also did cleaning for offices, salons, and many homes. Mary also worked at Roses, KMart, and a box factory. She was known for being a very hard worker.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a fabulous cook and always made birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas the most memorable holidays. She also enjoyed gardening and canning. She lived her life helping those in need. She was always cooking for people who were sick and her charity and love was always in action throughout her life. She always had something cooking and shared a plate with whoever entered her home. Her love was showed and shared throughout all of her years and she will be greatly missed by all.

She was an avid reader of God's word and loved her Christian magazines, always passing them on. She also enjoyed writing poems. She was a receiver of God's messages for others. She stood firm and depended on God's word. In the end Mary said she was ready to go home, and is now at rest with her Lord and Savior.

She is survived by her caring husband, Gene E. Loveless and their dog Tilly, whom they both love and who was always by Mary's side; three daughters whom she adored and loved dearly, Kimberly Renee & (Larry) Todd of Somerset, Valerie Ruth Fryman & (Todd) of Richmond, and Edrie Michelle & (Bobby) Jones of Somerset; her children by marriage, Mark Loveless, Denise Bowman, and Brian Loveless; two brothers, Parker Adams of Lexington and William Adams of Somerset; grandchildren, Bruce King, Brian King, Brittany Reetz, Rachel Reetz, Joseph Reetz, Landon Fryman, Morgan Fulcher, Ryan Jones, Aron Jones, Christy Todd and Brandon Todd; great-grandchildren, Noah, Alexander, August, Ava, Jeremiah, Sarah, Rachel, Keeney, Ashley, Maya, Naila, Sadie, and Koby.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter whom she adored and loved dearly, Theresa Marie Fulcher; and three brothers, Franklin L. Moore, Edward Lee Adams, and David Wade Adams.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Hughes and Bro. Shelby Reynolds officiating.

Burial will be in Eden Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

FRED BARGER

Freddy Gene “Fred” Barger, 72 of Indianapolis and former resident of Franklin; passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022 in Indianapolis.

He was born on January 3, 1950 in Pontiac, Michigan to Gerald and Lorene (Parks) Barger. He married Glenda Burton on January 12, 1972. She preceded him in passing on January 7, 1995. He is survived by children, Jerel Barger; Stacey Crover (Mikael); Katina Turner (Eric) and Jason Barger; sisters, Ann Barger and Geri Barger and grandchildren, Darrian Barger, Jacob Balderas, Amber Portocarrero, Fulton Barger, Kayleb Hoots, Kaydence Witt and Jaxon Barger. He was preceded in passing by his parents and wife, Glenda.

Fred attended Carrier Mills, Illinois High School and was a graduate of Butler University. He was a veteran of the United States Army, retiring after twenty years and finishing out his military career in the National Guard.

Fred was employed by Arvin Automotive.

He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the Shady Grove Cemetery.

ROBERT OSBORNE

Robert Osborne, 89, of Eubank, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the Neighborhood of Somerset.

He was born December 22, 1932 in Eubank; son of the late Leonard & Louiza (Thompson) Osborne. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Korean War. After his time as a veteran, he worked for, and eventually retired from General Motors. He was a longtime elder for the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, June (Webb) Osborne, to whom he was married on March 31, 2018; two sons, Mike Osborne of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Robert Joseph Osborne of Cincinnati, Ohio; three step-children, Bryce and Michael Todd, both of Eubank and Anne McKnight of Nashville; three grandchildren, Kayla Osborne, Jennifer Scott, and Beth Wilson; and six great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Elijah, Alice, Indie, Hunter, and Ember.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary (Brown) Osborne, who passed away on August 10, 2014; and his siblings, Grace (Wendell) Floyd, Barkley Osborne, Ula Pumphrey, Berniece Jones, and Fay Pumphrey, and three siblings who passed early in life.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, May 27, 2022 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post # 38.

Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery.

Gwendell Loyall, age 70 of Liberty, KY, passed away on Sunday May 22nd, 2022, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was born April 24th, 1952, in Bloomfield, KY, a daughter of the late Woodrow and Easter Evetene Coontz Edwards

Gwendell was an executive housekeeper and a former driver for Bluegrass.

Survivors include: Two Daughters: Nancy Lee and (Brian) Markee of Loves Park, IL and Tina Michelle Loyall and (Troy Scott) of Hustonville, Three Grandchildren: Casey Miller, Kerrighan Carmicle and Zachery Markee, Two Great Grandchildren: Braylynn Gooch and Arlis Carmicle, Two Brothers: Ivan Monroe Edwards of Finchville, KY and Michael Junior and (Rita) Edwards of Shelbyville, KY and One Sister: Patsey and (Robert) Tobias of Willisburg, KY.

Preceding her in death besides her parents was: Two Brothers: Billy Ray Edwards and Gary Richard Edwards.
