MILDRED 'VONI' PIERCE

Sunday, Dec 10, 2023, beloved mother, Mildred Vonibelle “Voni” Drake Pierce passed away peacefully in her sleep while in the care of St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood, Ky. She attained the grand age of 88 before her passing.

Born June 25, 1935 to Seldon and Marion Drake in Wolfe County Kentucky where she lived until her early teen years. She moved to Hebron, KY with her mother and step father, Joseph Bond. During that time, the family adopted her precious baby brother, Terry L. Bond. During this time, she also met and married her life partner, David Brooks Pierce at the age of 15. She earned her GED and went on to work in several different business endeavors throughout her life.  She was an EMT for the Walton -Verona Rescue Squad and took pride in knowing she was able to help many people. She became a Medical Assistant for Dr. William Waller in Walton and finished her career as City Clerk for the Walton City government upon her retirement in 2000.

She was married to her sweetheart for 55 yrs. until his passing in 2005.  They resided in Boone and Pulaski counties most of their wedded years where they raised their 7 children. Voni moved back to Somerset sometime after 2005 to be near her children as well as the place near and dear to her heart.  She was an active member of White Oak Baptist Church where she found great joy in the fellowship of her Sunday school class members. She was 2 time President of East Somerset Homemakers and found great satisfaction and joy participating in community events, club projects, being with members of various ages to keep her young and going on outings with her "Homemaker Girls".

During her 88 years of living, she nurtured her 7 children to adulthood, trained them to know the Lord, and equipped them to deal with life on their own.  She saw the arrival of her grandchildren to the 5th generation and felt great purpose in the continuation of family life and love.

She experienced the loss of her beloved mother Marion, stepfather Joe, brother Terry, father Seldon Drake, her beloved husband David Brooks Pierce, oldest son Robin Pierce and 3rd daughter, Lynnis Pierce Honaker.  In the midst of her loss and tragedies, she never failed to be a shoulder to cry on, a source of strength and wisdom, and a Matriarch to her family.

In looking at her life legacy, one thing that was consistently present and true was the love she gave, a life lived well and she continually had her family's love and respect.

She is survived by her 5 children: Mary Beth (Ronnie) Campbell, Susan (CV) Hansford, Kathi Pierce, Martha (Spencer) Biddle and Jamie (Jennifer) Pierce. She enjoyed being "Mamaw to her 16 grandchildren: Jessica, Timmy, Joshua and James Robert Pierce, Shane and Sarah Lewis, Kristi Martin and JD Hansford, Daniel, Dana and Lyle Honaker, Kristoffer Spicer, Abbey and Benjamin Biddle, Tera and Drake Pierce, as well as 26 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, who were the highlight of her life.

When asked by her oldest grandson shortly before her passing if she remembered who he was, she shook her head no.  He replied, "That’s OK mamaw, I remember you".  And HOW WELL, we that loved her and remain here will remember her and await our reunion day!
