MARY MILLS

 

Mary Mills, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. She was 73.

 

Born on October 12, 1949, in Liberty, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Lee Otis Sr. and Nettie Knight McQueary.

 

Mary loved her grandchildren, entertaining friends and family, cooking, gardening, her flowers, a good book, watching The Waltons, shopping for her grandchildren, and going out for a ride with Billy.

 

Mary leaves to cherish her memory her husband, John “Billy” Mills of Liberty, who she wed on October 9, 1982; a daughter, Brittany (Casey) Weddle of Liberty; her grandchildren who referred to her as “Granny”: Addalie Weddle, Emmalie Weddle, and Weston Weddle; a brother, Leon (Pam) McQueary of Liberty; two sisters, Wanda Wilham of Danville and Joann Rodgers of Liberty; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Peavley and Sherri Eads; and six brothers, Junior McQueary, Farley McQueary, Marvin McQueary, Paul McQueary, James McQueary, and Clifton “Buddy” McQueary.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Maupin officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 29, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

DEBORAH WESLEY

 

Deborah Wright Wesley, age 70, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Thursday September 28th, 2023, at the Casey County Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 16th, 1952, in Liberty, KY, a daughter of the late John W. and Linnie Sapp Wright.

 

Deborah was the Co-Owner of Wright Implement Co.

 

Survivors include: Her Spouse: Edward Wesley, Three Sons: Jonathan and (Kristy) Wilkerson of Liberty, Jamie and (Kara) Wilkerson of Liberty and Alex and (Kristy) Wesley of Somerset, Ten Grandchildren: Carson, Hudson and Grayson Wilkerson, Landon, Lukas and Kailey Wilkerson, Caleb and (Megan) Wesley, Noah and (Madison) Wesley, Allee Wesley and Lilly Beneke, Two Great Grandchildren: Owen and Aubree Wesley, One Brother: Ronald and (Pauline) Wright of Liberty, Two Sisters: Juanita and (the late Wendell) Delp of Liberty, and Frieda Verona and ( the late Ronnie) Atwood of Mt. Washington, and Sister-in-law: Mabel Wright of Liberty.

ALMA LEVERETT

 

Alma Ruth Leverett, age 81, of Indianapolis, In, passed away on Sunday September 24th, 2023, at her daughters’ residence. She was born July 1st, 1942, in Liberty, KY, a daughter of the late Lowell and Letha Hazel Vaught King.

 

Survivors include: Her Spouse: Jerry Leverett Sr., Four Children: Connie Leverett (Jerry Leverett) of Indianapolis, IN, Martha Leverett (Ruth Morrison) of Lancaster,  Roy Leverett of Indianapolis, IN, Jerri Garmin (Jim Garmin) of Center Grove, IN, Nine Grandchildren: Julie Ulmer (Drew Ulmer), Michelle Gill, Elizabeth Boeke (Rob Boeke), Jacque Murphy (Cam Murphy), Chrissy Johnson (Kevin Johnson), Jacob Garmin, Max Exner, Aubrey Exner, and Spencer Exner, Ten Great Grandchildren, Three Siblings: James Earl King (Gail King) of Liberty, Corrine Rawlings of Liberty and Jerry Randall King of Liberty.

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by Four Children: Jerry David Lee, Sherry Lynn, Nathene Exner and Gary Leverett and Four Siblings: Larry Glenn King, Beulah Lynn, David King and Elza King.

REBECCA "BECKY" STAMPER

 

Rebecca “Becky” Marie Stamper, of Nancy, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023. She was 50.

 

Born on January 12, 1973, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Glenna Patterson Disney and the late William Leonard Walls. Becky was a people person who enjoyed arts and crafts, fishing, music, and quilting. She loved being a nanny to her grandchildren. She also enjoyed rock-hunting and was truly a free spirit. Becky was a member at Poplar Grove Baptist Church.

 

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Katelyn Stamper; her sister, Deborah Ann Lawson (Mike), of Tampa, Florida; and her two grandchildren, Scarlett Marie and Journey Stamper.

 

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her son, Justin Stamper; stepfather, Ron Disney; and her brother, William Johnny Walls.

 

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 2:00 P.M., at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, with Bro. Barry “Dusty” Ray officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Poplar Grove Cemetery.

NORMA "JEANIE" MURPHY

 

Norma Jean “Jeanie” Murphy, age 77, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Saturday September 16th, 2023, at the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was born December 29th, 1945, in Liberty, KY, a daughter of the late Walter Thomas Davis and Oba Goode Davis.

 

Jeanie was the widow of Jesse Murphy who passed away on July 4th, 2019.

 

Jeanie was a L.P.N.

 

Survivors include: Two Daughters: Pam and (Rick) West of Liberty and Karla Murphy of Danville, and a great grandson whom she raised: Dakota Pevely of Liberty, Four Grandchildren: Aaron, Haley and Jeremiah West and Jenna Hodges, Four Great Grandchildren: Aiden and Jacob West, Brooklynn Brown and Kinslee Patton and Three Sisters: Ann and (James) Lynn of Liberty, Nancy Durham of Middleburg and Tommye Allen of Liberty.

 

In addition to her parents and spouse, she was also preceded in death by Four Grandchildren: Jason, Jessica and Mackenzie West, and Rachel West Wilkinson and one Sister: Rose Murphy.

CHERYLE BRUCKER INESTROZA

 

Cheryle “Cookie” Brucker Inestroza passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at UK Hospital. She was 74 years old.

 

Born on October 20, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, Cheryle was the daughter of the late Joseph Kolenda and Margaret Williams. She was a homemaker all her life and never let anyone leave her home hungry. Cheryle loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

 

She is survived by her husband, Luis Inestroza; her daughters, Donna (Pat) Dell’aria and Sharon (Stephen) Peyton; her sons, Daniel ( Jeannie) Brucker, Richard (Trina) Brucker, and Dale Brucker; step-daughters, Rosa (Ronald) Cardona, and Karen Inestroza; step-son, David Inestroza; brothers, Kevin Kolenda and Kenny Hatala; and sister, Elizabeth Jenkins; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Kolenda Jr.; two sisters, Johanna Jenkins and Janice Debuty; and two grandsons, Richard Marrapodi and Timothy Brucker.

 

The family will receive friends from 3:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Tapscott Cemetery.

DANNY ATWOOD

 

Danny “Touché” Atwood, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. He was 72.

 

Born August 8, 1951, in Liberty, KY, he was a son of the late Shirley and Effie Cannon Atwood. Danny was a brick mason and a US Army Veteran. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, watching baseball, and going to drag races. Danny was a hard worker. He had a caring heart and was a loving father and grandfather.

 

Survivors include his sons, Matthew (and Gena) Atwood of Liberty, Brian Atwood of Liberty, Michael (and Jennifer) Barrett of Georgetown, and Barry (and Nancy) Barrett of Lexington; brother, Ronnie (and Janet) Atwood of Liberty; 7 grandchildren, Dawson, Payton, Lilly, Cole, Raegan, Luke, and Laci; and 1 great-grandchild, Aaron.

 

Danny was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Atwood.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, September 16, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. David Hicks officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Tapscott Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Honor Guard.

RONALD ZEISS

 

Ronald Frank Zeiss, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset. He was 84.

 

Born October 15, 1938, in Villa Park, IL, he was a son of the late Frank and Helen Baumbach Zeiss. Ron was a retired driver for Nabisco. He was a former semi-professional hockey player and later managed hockey rinks. He was also an avid golfer and former referee for girl’s volleyball. Ron formerly attended Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church and currently attended Poplar Springs Baptist Church. He also was an animal farmer having raised Minks for years.

 

Survivors include his children, Debbie Stark, Peter Zeiss, Aimee Dathe and Kristi Tulley; his brother, Jerry Zeiss; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

 

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sally Joy Zeiss; brothers, Tom and James Zeiss; and sister, Barbara Eulert.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Johnny Maupin officiating.

BOBBY WILKINSON

 

Bobby Wilkinson, age 75, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Tuesday September 5th, 2023, at the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was born November 11th, 1947, in Marion County, KY, a son of the late Robert and Marie Nolan Wilkinson.

 

Bobby was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired Correctional Officer.

 

Survivors include: Nieces and Nephews: Sherry Hoskins, Shawn Wilkinson, Tyler Wilkinson, Christina Weddle and Katie Board.

 

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by One Brother: Ronald Gene Wilkinson.

 

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Tuesday September 12th, 2023, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.  

 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday September 13th, 2023, at Mill Springs National Cemetery. Danny Clements officiating.

CHERYL ROY

 

Cheryl Ann (Dunham) Roy was called to Heaven on Wednesday September 6th, 2023, surrounded by her family and friends due to complications from cancer. She was 65 years old.

 

Cheryl was born November 9th, 1957 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of William Harold Dunham and Janell Frances (Cornett) Dunham. She had one sibling, a sister, Lavonda Gail Adams. Her parents and sister all preceded her in death.

 

Cheryl was a 1975 graduate of Pulaski County High School in Somerset, Kentucky and a 1989 graduate of Somerset Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy.

 

After graduation from high school, she married Roger Dale Roy of the Teddy Community on November 14, 1975, moved to Casey County and started a family. They were married 36 years until Roger preceded her in death in 2011. They had one child, a daughter, Tanya Ann Roy, born March 5, 1977. She also preceded Cheryl in death in 2020.

 

Cheryl was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her daughter and grandson and embraced every possible moment with them. She loved life and had many hobbies. She had a vivacious personality and always made people laugh. She made friends wherever she went and no one was a stranger. She most enjoyed making those around her happy and seeing others prosper. All close to her loved her dearly and will never forget her wit and undying love for them. She was known for her knack for telling it like it was.

 

Cheryl is survived by her grandson Hayden Michael Abston, his wife Haley, and a great granddaughter Ellie of Liberty, Kentucky; a nephew Michael Adams of Eubank, Kentucky; a great nephew, Corey Adams of Covington, Tennessee; and many cousins, neighbors, and beloved friends.

 

As Cheryl never wanted to be separated from her family, her only dying concern was that her beloved grandson Hayden, and his wife Haley, join her in Heaven someday, she prayed fervently for this. She will be laid to rest in Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg, Kentucky alongside her husband and daughter following this service.

 

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Monday September 11th, 2023 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday September 12th, 2023, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Ricky Rodgers officiating.

NINA CUNDIFF

 

Nina Faye Cundiff, of Shepherdsville, formerly of Casey County, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Signature Healthcare. She was 75.

 

Born on February 6, 1948, Nina was the daughter of the late Erastus and Ruby May Byrd Overstreet. On July 1, 1962, Nina married her husband, James Clarence Cundiff. She attended Friends of Faith Church and loved gardening and quilting. She was a caregiver for many children and was very involved with her grandchildren. Nina was a strong-willed, independent woman.

 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Sharon Faye (Troy) Clardy, Jamie Ann (Rob) Cromer; an estranged daughter, Janice Faye (Craig) Woods; two brothers, Jerry Overstreet and Timmy (Carmela) Overstreet; one sister, Patsy Overstreet (Mark Meredith); 5 grandchildren, Tori, Ronnie, Alex, Isiah, and Ian; and 4 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Harrison, Jett, and Levi.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Jackie Dale Overstreet and Jimmy Ray Overstreet; and one sister, Judy Gay Wilson.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Eric Miller officiating.

LOIS EMERSON WELLS

 

Lois Emerson Wells, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. She was 84.

 

Lois was born September 24, 1938, in Casey County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Sherman and Carrie Sandusky Emerson.

 

Lois was a former employee of Liberty Sportswear and Oshkosh. She attended the Rheber Church of the Nazarene. Lois enjoyed quilting, yard work, farming, and sitting on her porch. She loved socializing and making people laugh.

 

Lois is survived by two brothers, Glen E. “Gene” Emerson of Liberty, and Rex (Connie) Emerson of Oxford, Ohio.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two husbands, Herman Miller and Verlin Wells; infant twin daughters; two sisters, Vatus Gibson and Jewell Smith; and three brothers, Jesse Emerson, Rollin Emerson, and Coy Emerson.

 

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 4:00 P.M. at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Hershel Lawhorn and Bro. Darrell Karnes officiating.

Doris U. Brown, age 93, of Liberty, KY, passed away on Wednesday September 6th, 2023, at the Casey County Hospital. She was born August 12th, 1930, in Casey County, KY, a daughter of the late Ben and Dorothy Cox Scott.

 

Doris was a former employee of Liberty Sportswear and a member of Brush Creek Pentecostal Church.

 

Doris was the widow of Charles Washington Brown who passed away on March 10, 1992.

 

Survivors include: One Son: Calvin and (Kathy) Brown of Liberty, One Daughter-in-law: Nancy Brown of Lawrenceburg, KY, Seven Grandchildren, Eleven Great Grandchildren, Twenty Nine great great grandchildren, Six Sisters: Jewel Payton of Liberty, Phyllis Lamb of Liberty, Carol Lee of Versailles, Wanda and (Bearl) King of Liberty, Margaret Rodgers of Liberty and Mary and (Harlan) Shoopman of Liberty and Two Brothers: Benny and (Linda) Scott of Liberty and Larry Scott of Liberty.

RONNIE SMITHER

 

Ronnie C. Smither, of Port Richey, FL, formerly of Casey County, KY, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, in Florida. He was 79.

 

Born August 16, 1944, in Casey Co., KY, he was a son of the late Richard and Flossie Bryant Smither. Ronnie was a retired HVAC mechanic. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ronnie was an avid golfer. He enjoyed going to horse races and watching baseball.

 

Survivors include his dear wife, Lillian Atwood Smither; daughter, Juanita Carol Smither; brothers, Gary (and Jean) Smither and Steven (and Judy) Smither; sister, Javana (and Mike) Short; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his pet dog, Lucy.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph Keith Smither; granddaughter, Heather Smither; brothers, Basil, Burrell, Richard, Harold, Buel, Curtis, and Vanus Smither; and sisters, Burrneatha Edwards, Velma Walls, Wanda Ponder, and Juanita Smither.

Larry Dale Davis, of Germantown, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at his home. He was 77.

Born on May 7, 1946, in Casey County, Kentucky, Larry was the son of Coy and Annie Overstreet Davis. He married his wife, Melanee Simpson Davis, on August 28, 1999. Larry was a retired lithographer after 30+ years of employment at Tru-color. He attended Brooksville Baptist Church. Larry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching NASCAR, and eating at Frisch’s Big Boy. He was a UK Wildcats fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Carol Vaughn of Liberty; one son, Adrian (Julie) Davis of Liberty; his daughters, Michelle D. Davis of Liberty, Keturah (John) Lunsford of Hillsboro, and Jessica (John) Dickson of Germantown; 8 grandchildren, Alyssa, Adam, Sadie, Logan, Gage, Avery, Zane, and Jada; and one great-grandchild, Walker.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Bryan Dale Davis; three brothers, Vernon Davis, Deward Davis, and Calvert Davis; and four sisters, Velma Mae Davis, Mildred Cochran, Etwell Davis, Faye Woodrum, and Teresa Combs.

DORIS FARMER LAY

 

Doris Farmer Lay, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, in Liberty. She was 99.

 

Born on July 17, 1924, in Pulaski County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Willie C. and Mary Sears Farmer. She was of the Methodist faith and was most recently a member at Liberty United Methodist Church. Doris formerly worked in the purchasing department as an ordering secretary at St. Joseph Hospital and was also co-owner and operator of Western Auto in Liberty. She was Valedictorian of her senior class at the age of sixteen at Mount Victory High School. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, housekeeping, and reading.

 

She is survived by a daughter, Vickie (and the late Terry) Allen of Liberty; four grandchildren, Francie (Steve) Blakeman, Heather (Steven) Brown, Tyler (Melissa) VanAllen, and Hannah (Tyler) Martin; nine great-grandchildren, Will, Noah, Reece, Caroline, Sadie, Allen, Braxton, Mykal, and Madelynn; one great-great-grandchild, Preston; caregiver, Janet “sweet pea” Bolin; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other very special caregivers.

 

In addition to her parents and son-in-law, she is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Garnett Lay, who passed away on November 21, 2017; a brother, Claude Farmer; and two sisters, Sylvia Sears and Fern Vanhook.

 

The funeral service will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Tyler VanAllen officiating.

 

Burial will follow at 2:30 P.M. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

LORA TARTER

 

Ms. Lora Tarter, of Liberty, passed from this life on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Casey County Hospital.  She was 94 years of age.

 

Ms. Lora was born May 29, 1929, in Casey County, daughter of the late Mitchell and Mary Copley Tarter.  She did farmwork all her life.  Lora enjoyed picking blackberries and going to dig for ginseng.  She loved animals.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Louetta Tarter, of Liberty.

 

Along with her parents, Ms. Lora is preceded in death by her brother, James Tarter; and her sister, Mildred Tarter.

 

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 3, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, with Bro. Larry Luttrell officiating.  Interment will follow in Old Contown Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held after 1:30 p.m., Sunday, until time for funeral services.

PHETCHABUN BUNKASOL

 

Phetchabun Bunkusol, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Ephraim McDowell Hospital. He was 83.

 

Born on May 10, 1940, in Nong Khai, Thailand, he was the son of Saw and Phengsee Bunkusol. Phetchabun was a retired United States DEA translator. After retirement, he worked at the American Embassy in Thailand.

 

He is survived by 7 children, several grandchildren, two brothers, and one sister.

 

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 2:00PM at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM to 2:00PM. Cremation rights will be honored following the funeral service.

BARBARA LEE ST. CLAIR PINSON

 

Barbara Lee St. Clair Pinson of Crab Orchard, KY, formerly of Logan County, KY, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at her home in Crab Orchard. She was 81.

 

Barbara was born March 23, 1942 in Auburn, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late David Columbus and Curti Lee Howard St. Clair.

 

Barbara was a retired professor from Western Kentucky University. She was also a former teacher at Russellville High School and Bowling Green Junior High. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Barbara enjoyed gardening, tennis, animals, reading, and square dancing.

 

She is survived by three children, Stephen Pinson of Bowling Green, Troy (LeAnn) Pinson of Bowling Green, and Aleetha Ellis of Crab Orchard; her sister, Donna (Jimmy) Sears of Louisville; 6 grandchildren, John, Jimmy, Megan, Mallorie, Ethan, and Atlas; and 4 great-grandchildren, Hendrick, Oliver, Charlie, and Harlan.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Pinson; and 2 siblings, Linda McDowell and Bruce St. Clair.  

 

A celebration of life open house will be held on Saturday, September 30 from 2PM until 5PM at 1566 Three Springs Road, in Bowling Green, KY.
