WILLIAM ELLIOTT

 

William Glenn Elliott, 85, of Kings Mountain, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the University of Kentucky.

 

He was born May 17, 1936 in Lincoln County; son of the late Hubert Kelly & Mary Bell (Haggard) Elliott. He was a farmer and was of the Pentacostal faith. He was a well-skilled musician who enjoyed playing guitar, organ, & piano. He loved playing Gospel music and helping others. He was a fan of the University of Kentucky, Cleveland Indians, and the Dodgers. He enjoyed gardening.

 

He is survived by a brother, Kenneth Ray & (Mary Faye) Elliott; four sisters, Vernia Helene & (Jack) Derry, Joan Sims, Velma & (Glennis) Halcomb, and Wanda & (David) Pike; nieces & nephews, Kevin Elliott, Tony Elliot, Christopher Pike, Brian Sweet, Brad Sweet, Shawn Sweet, Glennis Halcombe III, Melinda Ann West, Jamie Lee Sims, Jackie Junior Derry, Darryl Derry, Jeff Derry, Debbie Cristofferson, Judy Szell, Paula Elliott, and Pamela Ellis; and several great-nieces & nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Dale Sims. 

 

A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. David Gambrel and Bro. Robert McFall officiating.

 

Burial will be in Salyers Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be after 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

 

LONA HALL

 

Lona Mae Hall 95, passed away Sunday, June 27,2021 at the home of her daughter Judy Cates in Richmond, Kentucky.


She was born on October 5,1925 in Richmond, Kentucky and was the daughter of Johnny and Amanda Tackett Bowlin.

 

Lona was employed by Young World for many years and was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church. Her grandchildren were one of her greatest joys.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Hall, two daughters, Joyce Hughes and Jo Anne Story, Sisters; Vonie Bowlin Elizabeth Ann, Louise Matthews and Josphine Gray, brothers; Filden, Glen, Lester, and William Bowlin and a great grandchild Daniel Phillip Hughes.

 

Survivors include; daughters; Vickie( Gary ) Roberts of Somerset, Judy ( Bobby) Cates of RIchmond, Kentucky,a brother; Wayne (Jeannie) Bowlen three grandchildren; Bryan (Stephanie ) Baker of Richmond, Steve (Rhonda) Hughes of Nancy, Kentucky, and Kim Strehl of Somerset, her great grandchildren; Haley Baker, Bobby Cole Baker, Josh Strehl, Joseph Strehl, and Sarah Strehl (Kent Dalton) and one great great grandchild Kylo Alan Dalton.

 

The family would like to specially thank Faye Turpin, Jackie Combs, Sandy Lienheart, Lynn Dalton, Brian and Stephanie Baker, Bobby Cole Baker, Haley Baker, R.C. Story, Shelby Cates and Hospice for all of the love, care and food to help take care of Mom, you made the journey easier.

GLADYS STRINGER

 

Gladys Robbins Stringer, 86, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family after a brief illness. 

 

Gladys was born November 13, 1934 in Stanford, KY to the late James Robbins and Beulah Robbins. Mrs. Stringer lived her entire life in Somerset, Kentucky.  She married William Stringer in 1963 who preceded her in death.  Together they raised one son, Jeffery, of Louisville.  She was a longtime member at Buena Vista Church.

 

Mrs. Stringer is survived by her son, Jeff Stringer (Angela); her grandchildren; Nicholas and Lauren Stringer; a sister, Dorothy Francis (Paul); a niece Debbie Isaacs (Mark), great-nieces Hannah McAlpin (Tucker), Haley Hall (Riley) and great-great nephew (Lennon). 

 

The family would like to thank Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and Hospice of Lake Cumberland for their care and support over the last weeks.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

 

Her funeral service will follow on Friday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Hampton officiating.

 

Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

 

LILLIE SCOTT

 

Lillie Rose Scott, age 79 of Liberty, KY passed away on Monday June 28th, 2021, at her residence.

 

She was born on April 7th, 1942, in Casey County, KY, a daughter of the late James Leo and Minnie Lois Derringer McFarland.

 

Lillie was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom and OshKosh.

 

Survivors include: Her Spouse: James Alvin Scott, Four Children: Tina Darlene Allen of Russell Springs, Johnny Lee and (Jill) Scott of Liberty, Vicky Renee and (Paul) Barnett of Waynesburg and Michael Brent Scott of Liberty, Seven Grandchildren, Six Great-Grandchildren, One Great-Great-Grandchild, Two Brothers: Frank McFarland of Campbellsville, KY and Tony McFarland of Liberty and Three Sisters: Virginia and Cinda McFarland both of Liberty and Kathy Jo Moriarty of Mt. Washington.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents was One Brother: James William McFarland.

 

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday July 2nd, 2021, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

EARL BELDON

Earl Wayne Beldon, age 77 of Hustonville, KY passed away on Monday June 28th, 2021, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

 

He was born on May 23rd, 1944, in Casey County to the late Delmer and Hazel Maddox Beldon.

 

He was a logger and farmer.

 

Survivors include: His Spouse: Vickie Bernard Beldon and Step Son: Jeff Shoopman of Liberty.

 

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday July 1st , 2021, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

THOMAS WEDDLE SR.

Thomas Marion “T.M.” Weddle, Sr., of Liberty, Kentucky, passed from this life on Friday, June 25, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 88 years of age.

 

Born on April 12, 1933, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Leonard Galen and Ella Mae Pierce Weddle. T.M. was a veteran of the US Army, having served in Company A 100th Tank Battalion. T.M. was a dedicated farmer and enjoyed all aspects of the agricultural industry. He loved all animals, especially horses. He enjoyed showing cattle, sheep, and horses.  T.M. was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family.  He was a member of Liberty First Christian Church.

 

Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty Lou Brown Weddle, of Liberty, whom he wed on October 16, 1953; his son, Thomas Marion Weddle, Jr., of Liberty; his daughter, Linda Hatter, of Liberty; three grandchildren, Andrew Weddle, Luann (and Hagen) Williams, and McKinzee (and Stephen) Frazier; and three great-grandchildren, Mason Weddle, Lucy Williams, and Anslee Weddle.

In addition to his parents, T.M. was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Weddle; and his sister, Agatha Purdom.

 

Funeral services are 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 28, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Brother Dwight Coffman officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Casey County Memorial Gardens with full military honors performed by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

 

Visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00 P.M. Sunday, June 27, 2021, and will continue Monday, from 8:00 A.M. until service time, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

DENELDA LEIGH

Denelda Clairlene Leigh, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021, at her home. She was 81.

 

Born on April 23, 1940, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Arza and Sylvia Phillips Caudill. Clairlene was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved caring for children and her family. She devoted her life to the Lord to witness to others. Clairlene was a fun person with a sense of humor. She was a strong military wife.

 

Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Marshall Leigh, who she wed on April 20, 1957; a son, Timothy Marshall (Patricia) Leigh of Cleveland, TN; a daughter, Deana Dial (Randall Lane) of Liberty; three grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua, and April; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Natalia, Madelyn, and Maddux; and two brothers, Marshall (Helen) Caudill of Liberty and David (Elizabeth) Caudill of Stanford.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three sisters, Juanita Thompson, Genive Lane, and Norma Cain; and four brothers, Dean Caudill, Larry Caudill, Eugene Caudill, and Bob Caudill.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Hershel Lawhorn officiating.

CHARLES "WAYNE" HOLTZCLAW JR.

 

Charles “Wayne” Holtzclaw Jr., age 57, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, in Danville. Born Tuesday, March 17, 1964, in Danville, Kentucky to Charles Wayne Holtzclaw and the late Rosetta Bunch Holtzclaw. Wayne worked as a color technician at LSC Communications since 1996. Wayne was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Wayne’s greatest passions were pulling tractors and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

In addition to his father, Wayne leaves behind three sons Brandon Holtzclaw (Leah) of Hustonville, Kentucky, Derrick Holtzclaw (Chantal) of Danville and Charles Matthew Holtzclaw (Zack Turk) Of Washington DC; one daughter Emily Holtzclaw of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; four grandchildren Treyson Holtzclaw, Emersyn Holtzclaw, Haven Holtzclaw and Hadley Holtzclaw; his step mother Dewilla Holtzclaw; one brother Dale Holtzclaw (Dottie Smith) of Waynesburg; one sister Jennifer Sims (Randall) of Highland, Kentucky; one niece Chelsey Holtzclaw of Danville, Kentucky; and several extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.

 

In addition to his mother, Wayne was preceded in death by one grandchild Noah Wayne Holtzclaw and one niece Heather Brooke Holtzclaw.

 

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home with Bro. Vola Brown officiating the service. Burial will follow at Double Springs Cemetery. KATHERINE MAYFIELD

 

Ms. Katherine Marie Mayfield, age 60, of Somerset, passed from this life on Monday, June 21, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Care Center after an extended illness.

 

She was born on  September 10, 1960 in Louisville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Paul Phillips and Stella Nichols Phillips.  Katherine was a dedicated homemaker, loving, kind and generous mother who loved her family.  She enjoyed cooking for the family gatherings, collecting unicorn keepsakes and “scratch-off” lottery tickets.  Katherine also enjoyed her animals, was of the Baptist Faith and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

 

Besides her parents; Paul and Stella Phillips, she is preceded in death by  two brothers; Paul Phillips, Jr. and Donnie Phillips, a nephew; James Paul Phillips and her maternal grandparents; Benny and Etna Alice Crabtree Nicholas.

 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, ,  three children; Paul (Amanda) Mayfield, Kathy Lynn (Joe) Neeley and Eric Blake all of Somerset, a companion; George Blake, her siblings; Cecil (Linda) Phillips, Sheila (Cecil) Ard, William “Bubby” (Rita) Phillips, Scylar (Marlene) Phillips, Brenda (Gerald) Vanhook, Flossie (Michael) Sears, Melinda (Rex) Loveless and Salley Phillips,  four grandchildren; Zachary Paul Mayfield, Andrew Kyle Mayfield, Haley Renee Mayfield and Joseph Nathaniel Neeley, a special friend; Mary Mayfield and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Active Pallbearers will be; Andrew Kyle Mayfield, Zachary Paul Mayfield, Lucas Loveless, Matt Loveless, Michael Vanhook and Paul Mayfield.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Jacob Phillips and Eric Blake.

 

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.  to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company & Crematory. 

 

The Funeral Service will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 26. 2021 in the Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brian Plants officiating. 

 

Interment will be in the Quinton Cemetery. 

 

ROBERT JAMISON

 

Robert Keith Jamison, age 64, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

Robert was born on April 14, 1957 in Somerset, KY to the late Buddy James “B.J.” Jamison and Maggie Slaughter Jamison.  He was a lifelong resident of Somerset and a graduate of Somerset High School. 

 

He is survived by one daughter, Cyera Grace Mendoza of Columbia; four grandchildren, Jose Antonio Mendoza, Jovani Javier Mendoza, Avianna Enriqueta Mendoza and Julio Armani Mendoza; four brothers; Reggie Jamison of Science Hill, Randolph “Scott” Jamison of San Antonio, TX, Rick Jamison of Somerset and Roger Jamison of San Antonio, TX; a sister, Lolita Short of Harrodsburg;

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, B.J. and Maggie Jamison.

 

Private services will be held on Monday at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Mill Springs National Cemetery.  Rev. James Barleston will officiate the service. 

 

Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.

 

ROY CHAPMAN

 

Roy Lee Chapman, 73, of Nancy passed away Tuesday June 22, 2021 at his residence.

 

He was born on May 9th, 1948 in Pikeville, KY the son of the late Otto Chapman and Geraldine Pugh Chapman. After graduating from EKU Roy taught industrial arts at Woodford County Middle School where he also served as principal. After retirement, Roy proudly served at EKU as a member of the KECSAC program.

 

He is survived by wife, Sandra Tarter Chapman; sons Jason and Morgan Chapman, three daughters-in-laws Trista Hill Chapman of Frankfort, Loan Chapman and Kelly Chapman of Lexington, his brothers Larry and Kathy Chapman of Pikeville, J. Morgan and Brenda Chapman of Pikeville, Hubey and Cindy Chapman of Elizabethton, TN, sister Brenda Bevins, Pikeville; granddaughters, Hunter and Michael Chiang, Santa Cruz, CA, Ramey Chapman Frankfort, KY; grandsons Luke and James Chapman of Lexington; and a great-granddaughter Alexandra Chiang.

 

Roy loved serving as a deacon at Okalona Missionary Baptist Church, spending time with family, teaching, performing as a musician, woodworking and, of course, basketball.

 

A funeral service will be 1:00 PM Friday, June 25, 2021 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Moore officiating.

 

Burial in Hudson Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be after 4:00 PM Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

 

JACQUELINE HOWARD

 

Jacqueline Marie Howard, age 75, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

Jacqueline was born on December 22, 1944 in Cleveland, OH to the late Frank Stika and Margaret Marcella Bacik Stika.   She enjoyed sewing, reading and listening to audiobooks.  She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds and UK Basketball.  Jacqueline loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

 

She is survived by one son, Dennis (and Nancy) Howard of Cincinnati, OH; one daughter, Taryn (and Eric) Young of Cincinnati, OH; one sister, Diane Greer; and eight grandchildren, Kelsey Howard, Briannah Howard, Kasen Howard, Kaden Howard, Alayna Howard, Kove Miller, Camara Young and Eric H. Young.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrone Howard; and one brother, Dennis Stika.

 

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

DARMUS "BUBBY" DALTON JR.

 

Darmus “Bubby” Dalton Jr. 55, passed from this life Monday June 14th 2021. He was born November 17th 1965 in Somerset KY to the late Darmus Dalton and Cleda Dalton of Somerset KY. 

 

Darmus was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed watching Kentucky basketball, fishing and playing cards, playing softball, camping, being with his family and attending church.  

 

Along with his father, Darmus is preceded in death by his wife Virginia “Carol” Dalton; special nieces Christy Dick and great niece, Bailey Decker; father in law Noble Hampton.   

 

He is survived by his son, Nathan Farmer of Somerset KY; three daughters, Summer Dalton of Somerset KY, Christi Dalton Combs of Somerset KY, Secret Dalton of Somerset KY; step children, Tiara (Matthew) Latham of Somerset KY, Brooke (Brandon) Smith of Somerset KY, Brittany Compton, and Brandon Compton; one brother James (Tina) Dalton of Somerset KY; six sisters, Debra (Joe) Dobbs of Somerset KY, Cathy Dalton of Somerset KY, Tresa (Steve) Flynn Somerset KY, Loretta Stewart of Burnside KY, Vonda (David) Meade of Bronston KY, Melinda Dalton of Burnside KY; ten grandchildren, Chanler Brake, Landon Brake, Lillian Wood, Makynna Farmer, Jacob Combs, Kyran Sanders, Oaklyn Amiyah Jackson, Railey Housley, Emerie Latham, Kinsley Kate Tarter; mother in law, Lena Hampton of Somerset; and special friends, Jay Doss and Robert Randolph.  

 

Visitation will be held June, 22nd from 6-9pm, services will be June, 23rd at 1 pm at Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

 

Interment will be follow at Southern Oaks Cemetery.  

 

 

REID WAYNE

 

Wayne Reid, age 80 of Somerset KY passed from this life on June, 20th 2021. He was born June 13th 1941 in Bakersville, North Carolina to the late Jay and Lottie DeGroat Reid.  

 

Wayne served proudly in the Air Force, was a member of City Council, was a KY Colonel and graduated from Berea College. He is retired from NHA as Regional Director and Long Term Care Director. He was active in little league and a Babe Ruth coach. He enjoyed watching professional sports, playing golf, loved fishing, cooking, traveling, and enjoyed entertaining at his beach home. Friends called him the “Cruise Director” because he was always in charge of entertaining. 

 

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Lottie Reid; and his sister, Helen Taylor of Marion NC. 

 

Wayne is survived by his wife, Deanna Reid; his sons, James Reid (Glenda) of Glasgow, Bruce (Maribeth) Loveless of Lexington; daughter, Vicki (Tom) Hall of Somerset; grandchildren, Mason and Griffin Reid of Glasgow, Rebecca (Keith) Spradling, Beth Jennie Major of Somerset, Teresa (Colin) Pemberton of Lexington, Syndey Loveless of Georgia, Connor Loveless of Brunswick, GA; great grandchildren, Hayden Vaught, and Caleb Pemberton; aunt, Doris Ledford of NC;  brother in law, Robert Taylor of WV; and along with a host of other friends and family.  

 

A special thanks to Hospice of Lake Cumberland and Intrepid.

MARY PENDLETON

 

Mary Ann Pendleton, formerly of Columbia, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was 62.

 

Born on October 15, 1958, in Taylor County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Sallee Miller. Mary, along with her husband, were the former owners of Pendleton Seamless Gutters. She was a member of Barnett’s Creek United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by three daughters, Myra (Jamey) Neat of Columbia, Angel (Cody) Williamson of Columbia, and Amy (Shane) Irvin of Liberty; and two sons, Shawn (Sovanna) Pendleton of Columbia and Toby (Brittany) Pendleton of Columbia; eighteen grandchildren, Cody, Kyle, Gracey, Lily, Kaylie, Kylie, Bradley, Grayson, Gage, Beau, Gatlin, Brayden, Payton, Addy, Avery, Skyler, Addy, and Hinlee; and one great-grandchild, Kaycee Neat. Other survivors include seven brothers, Bobby (Ann) Lee of Dunnville, Buford Lee of Knifley, Ricky Burton of Columbia, Danny Burton of Elizabethtown, Larry Miller of Columbia, Jeff Miller of Knifley, and Dalton Miller of Stanford.

 

In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Pendleton; and a brother, Timmy Burton.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Hershel Lawhorn officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Barnett’s Creek Cemetery.

DANA POST

 

Dana T. Post age 70, passed from this life with his wife by his side on June 20th 2021 in Somerset Kentucky. Dana was born March 24th 1951 in Philippi West Virginia to the late Donald Post and Gertrude “Jerri” Nestor Jones.

 

He retired from General Electric Glass Plant as an engineer/supervisor after 27 years.

 

Dana enjoyed coaching little league football and basketball. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

 

He loved hunting, working in his yard, planting flowers, and spending time with his family.  

 

Along with his parents, Dana is preceded in death by his step father, Don Jones and his fur buddy, Biscuit.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Lorene Post; sons, Jeremy Post of Charlotte, NC, Matt (Denine) Woodall of Somerset; daughter Kendra (David) Mayfield of Somerset; brothers Don (Cricket) Post of Thornton, WV, Lyndon (Sally) Jones of Scott Depot, WV, Jeff Jones of Charlotte, NC; sister Suzanne (Mike) Powers of Clarksburg, WV; grandchildren, J.J. Woodall, Leighanna Woodall, Blakley Mayfield, Colton Mayfield; several nieces and nephews and special friends Kenny and Alice Stewart of WV.

 

Visitation will be held at Southern Oaks Funeral Home on Thursday, June 24th at 11am with funeral following at 1pm.

WILLIAM DAVID WESLEY

William David “Big Dave” Wesley, age 43 of Columbia, KY passed away on Monday June 21st, 2021, at the NHC Healthcare.

 

He was born in Liberty, KY on February 18th, 1978, a son of Ova Mae Barlow Roberts and her husband (Bobby Ray Roberts) and the late Otha Travis Wesley.

 

Big Dave was a former Truck Driver for Neat’s Trucking and a Farmer.

FRED LEDFORD

 

Fred Ledford, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at his home. He was 85.

 

Born on April 30, 1936, in Harlan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Russell and Susie Stewart Ledford. Fred was a coal miner and factory worker. He loved to fish and spend time with his children and grandchildren.

 

He is survived by his wife, Helen Fair Ledford; a daughter, Cindy Fair of Liberty; a son, Richard Ledford of Liberty; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Mary; and two brothers, Curtis and Carlos.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Molly.

 

No services will be held for Mr. Fred Ledford.

CHARLES HASTY

 

Charles Edward Hasty, 55, of Eubank, passed away Friday, June 18, 2021 at his residence.

 

He was born in Melbourne, Florida on July 1, 1965; son of James E. Hasty, Sr. and Judy Clark Hasty He was a welder and worked as both a mechanic and a fabricator.

 

He is survived by wife, Tina Renee Barron Hasty; his father and mother, James E. Hasty, Sr. and Judy Clark Hasty; a brother, James E. Hasty, Jr. & (Kathy) of Science Hill; a sister, Erica Michelle Hasty & (Phillip) Rogers of Eubank; a granddaughter, Azura Hasty; and several nieces and nephews.  

 

He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray Hasty.

 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Robins officiating.

 

Burial will be in McKinney Cemetery.

IRENE AKER

 

Irene Hunter Aker, age 105, of Somerset, passed from this life on Friday, at her residence after an extended illness. 

 

She was born on Friday, August 27, 1915 in the Sugar Hill Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky. Irene was born during the time of World War I and survived the challenging times of World War II and the “Great Depression”, her stamina and tenacity also helped her to endure the times of two pandemics.  She was a strong independent woman of faith that raised her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.  She enjoyed reading the Bible and had accomplished reading it through its entirety 3 times by the age of 100.  She was married to the late Herald Aker on June 17, 1931 who he preceded her in death on January 19, 1988. 

 

Irene was a dear, kindhearted and loving mother who was the epitome of the Biblical Virtuous Woman.  Her strength and honor are her clothing and her rejoicing time has come.  She was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching Vacation Bible School, working with the Women in the WMU with whom she made tireless and valuable contributions of time and efforts.  She also enjoyed flowers and the tranquility of being in the presence of the Lord.  She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.

 

Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by three children; George William Aker, Joe Allen Aker and Judy Aker who died at birth as well as a sister; Pauline Gilbert.

 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children; Emily Ester (Rick) Kaelin of Springhill, Florida, David Douglas (Wanda) Aker of Corbin, Kentucky, Mary Catherine David of Dallas, Texas, Stephen Hunter (Donna) Aker of Science Hill, Kentucky and Michael Dale (Lesa) Aker of Eubank, Kentucky, 18 grandchildren, 25 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company & Crematory. 

 

The Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm with Bro. Rick Shannon and Bro. Vincent Carman officiating.

TONY HALL JR.

 

Tony Robert Hall, Jr. age 42, of Somerset, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 in Ohio.

 

He was born on July 27, 1978 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of Deborah Davidson Hall and the late Tony Robert Hall, Sr. He was a general laborer and worked for a number of years at Meijers Retail store in Ohio.  Tony enjoyed fishing, Hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by those who knew him and loved him.

 

He is preceded in death by his father; Tony Robert Hall, Sr.

 

He is survived by his mother; Deborah Davidson Hall and his step-father; Glynn Barnes, of Somerset, a son; Tony Robert Hall, III of Harrison, Ohio, a brother Robert Lewis (Viv) Hall, Sr., and a niece Zaphira Hall all of Harrison, Ohio.

JOAN ABBOTT

 

Joan Clydene Abbott, 78, of Somerset, passed away Friday, June 18, 2021 at the Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

She was born in Monticello, Kentucky on June 25, 1942; daughter of the late Voicey and Lena Belle Morgan. She was a retired Health Aide for the State of Kentucky. She enjoyed traveling with Wayne, stopping as many places along the way as time would allow. She enjoyed spending her spare time studying genealogy, which allowed her to visit many cemeteries throughout. She was an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where her and Wayne took care of the Senior Saints at church, taking them on a different trip each month.

 

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Wayne Abbott whom she married on May 27, 1978; brothers, Phil & (Regina) Morgan of Shelbyville, KY Danny Ray & (Barbara) Morgan of the Edwards Mtn. Community, Mac Allen & (Tabby) Morgan of Powersburg, KY.; sisters, Loretta & (Shannon) Hollars of Frankfort, IN., and Brenda & (Tommy) Stinson of Pall Mall, TN.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Voicey and Lena Belle Morgan; brother, David Hale Morgan; a brother who died in infancy, Richard Morgan; a step-daughter, Tammy Lynn Abbott.

Clarence Austin (Pup) Haynes age, 68, of the Oak Hill Community, went home with the Lord on Friday, June 18, 2021 at UK Hospital with his wife by his side. 

 

He was born on January 21, 1953 in Somerset, Ky to the late Lester Lee and Bertha L. (Meece) Haynes. 

 

Clarence was in the Soda Pop business for over 20 years and then self-employed dump truck driver for Hinkle contracting. He loved being with his family, (wife, kids, grandkids) who was the love of his life and also his 4-legged companion, Pepper. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Lester Lee and Donnie Haynes; 2 sisters, Shirley Wilson, Ruthie Colyer and 1 special daughter, Nancy Phelps.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, whom which he married on March 5, 1971, Peggy Lee (Jones) Haynes, 2 sons, Eddie (Roben) Haynes of Somerset and Greg (Angie) Haynes of Somerset, 6 grandkids, Riley, Raymond, Robert, Baily, Elijah and Jon Haynes all of Somerset. Clarence is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.  

 

Pallbearers will be, Riley, Raymond, Baily, Elijah, Jon Haynes and Ralph (Bud) Hall.

JESSE HINES

Jesse Stanley Hines, age 70, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the VA Hospital in Lexington, KY.

 

Born July 24, 1950, in Boyle Co., KY, he was a son of the late Bidwell Stanley Hines and Rose Meeks Hines. Jesse was a US Army Veteran and a member and deacon of Ferndale Baptist Church. He retired after 29 years from Tecumseh Products, having only taken 2 vacations. Jesse enjoyed 4-wheeling, working in tobacco, and farming.

 

Survivors include his dear wife, whom he wed on February 3, 1973, Linda Gail Gadberry Hines; daughter, Stacy (and Mike) Woodrum; brother, Michael (and Wanda) Hines; sister, Betty (and Don) King; granddaughter, Payton Mills; special nephews, Adam (and Miranda) Hines and Levi Hines; special great-nephew, Colton Hines; sister-in-law, Joanna (and Gary) Evans; and a host of other relatives also survive.

 

Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Ferndale Baptist Church with Bro. David Terwilliger, Bro. Gary Evans, and Bro. Larold Gosser officiating.

ROGER GRANT

Roger Dale Grant, formerly of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green. He was 68.

 

Born on May 13, 1953, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Shelby and Pauline Ellis Grant. Roger worked for Wolford and Wethington sawmill for numerous years. He loved the outdoors, riding his bike, and spending time with others.

 

He is survived by a daughter, Chasity Rodgers of Liberty; three stepchildren, Shawn Monday of Liberty, Lona (Brett) Woodrum of Liberty, and Heather Slavey of Nancy; a sister, Shirley (Ronald) Helm of Liberty; a brother, Merle Grant; and a special niece and caregiver, Rhonda Combs of Dunnville. Other survivors include two grandchildren, Austin Bryant and Linsey Rodgers; and a great-grandchild, Raegyn Bryant.

Genevee Ware, of Columbia, passed away on June 17, 2021, at Baptist Health in Louisville. She was 79.

 

Born on March 16, 1942, in Adair Co., KY, she was the daughter of the late Delmar and Kathryn Brockman Woody. Ms. Ware was a member of the Shady Grove Separate Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, Gospel music, and her family. Her great-grandchildren always brought a smile to her face. She retired from Fruit of the Loom.

 

Survivors include three grandchildren, Alex (Breanne) Ware of Mt. Washington, Alan (Jade) Ware of Mt. Washington, and Ethan (Abby) Ware of Louisville; a sister, Joan Wethington of Louisville; three great-grandchildren, Colton, Harper, and Tatum; and two great-grandchildren on the way.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband that she married on December 24, 1960, Lucian Ware, who passed away on February 15, 2016; a son, Rodney Ware; and a brother, Gerald Woody.

Neina Marie Keel, of Fairland, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in Shelbyville, Kentucky. She was 36.

 

Born on December 30, 1984, in Shelbyville, Indiana, she was the daughter of Robin and Virginia Kaye Eckler Roberts. Neina was a homemaker. She enjoyed riding motorcycles and crafting. She was in the Chosen Brothers and Sisters Indiana Motorcycle Club.

 

She is survived by her husband, Charles Keel of Fairland, IN; a daughter, Jesika Hogue of Fairland, IN; a son, Michael Hogue of Fairland, IN; three step-children; a brother, Brandon Roberts; a special cousin, Emily Roberts; and a host of aunts, uncles, friends, and adopted brothers and sisters.

Betty was born July 11, 1943 to the late Jonathan Brinson and Betty Phelps Brinson in Colo, Kentucky. 

 

She was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed collecting books, working crosswords and collecting 1st Edition Books.  

 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Raymond Brinson; sisters, Edith Rose, Mildred Glover, Christine Rose, Jenelle Tuggle, Altena Meece and Lera Brown.

Jack Orin Benschneider, Sr., of Liberty, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was 82.

 

Born on August 26, 1938, in Bloomington, Illinois, he was a son of the late Harry and Ida Gilhouse Benschneider. Jack was a heavy equipment operator in California. More recently, he was a local small business owner and employed with the Casey County Bus Garage for 25+ years. He was Jehovah’s Witness.

 

He is survived by his wife, Betty Luttrell Benschneider, who he wed on October 18, 1969; a son, Jack (Jolenia) Benschneider, Jr. of London; three daughters, Kim Angel of Lexington, Rita (Stan) Szary of Hamilton, OH, and Sharon (Dennis) Grider of Liberty; nine grandchildren, Madison Bendschneider, Max Bendschneider, Dalton House, Montana House, Ryan Lee, Jarrod Angel, Jonathan (Robin) Szary, Amy (Jim) Adkins, and Neal (Karen) Grider; and five great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Malah Shepherd and Judy Bendschneider.

DONNA WILLIAMSON ATWOOD

 

Donna Faye Williamson Atwood, of Parksville, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at her home. She was 74.

 

Born on December 27, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Viola Marple Williamson. Donna was a cat and dog lover and enjoyed selling Avon. She was employed at Trim Masters in Harrodsburg for twenty plus years.

 

She is survived by two sons, Todd (Nicki) Atwood of Eubank and Brian Atwood of Parksville; two grandchildren, Zachary Atwood and Kristin Atwood; and two great-grandchildren, Jessa and Matthew.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Atwood; a sister, Georgia Pike; and a brother, Earl Wayne Williamson.

 

No services will be held for Ms. Donna Atwood.

Norman David "Sonny" Levine, 84, of Eubank, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

He was born on January 15, 1937 in Newport, Kentucky; son of the late Reverend Norman & Anna Louise (Moore) Levine. He worked as a driver for Rayborn Warren Wholesale Mobile Homes.

 

He is survived by a son, Guy Adrian Levine of Eubank; four daughters, Audrey & (Elbert) Branscum of Eubank, Dauphine Levine of Eubank, Norma Jean Hall of Eubank, and Theresa & (Kevin) Hutto of Interlachen, Florida; a brother, Billy E. Levine of Louisville; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Alberta Lou (Rutherford) Levine.

Linda Partin, age 70, passed from this life on Friday, June 11th, 2021 at her home. She was born August 15th, 1950 in Jellico, TN to the late Floyd and Amy Marple.  

 

Linda was of Baptist faith and enjoyed watching old movies and working cross word puzzles. She also enjoyed the outdoors.  

 

Along with her parents, Linda is preceded in death by her husband, Lonny Partin; her brothers, Kenneth Marple and Earl Marple; and sister, Janice Marple. 

 

She is survived by her son Matthew (Rhonda) Partin of Faubush KY; her daughter, Marsha Davidson of Somerset; sisters Charlotte Douglas of Jellico, TN and Amy Douglas of Jellico, TN; grandchildren, Amber and Brandon Partin, Zachary Davidson and Jordynn Seeber; and a great grandchild, Jason Kidd.

Thelma Duncan, age 93 of Columbus, OH, formerly of Somerset, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Kobacker House Hospice Care in Columbus.

HAZEL MOSLEY

 

Hazel Mosley, age 79, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

Hazel was born on March 27, 1942 in Kokomo, IN., to the late Hulon Parker Hodge and Annetta Viola Auter Hodge. She was a member Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Somerset. Hazel loved her church and loved to share the word of God with people.

 

She is survived by two daughters, Connie Thompson of Somerset and Lila Denney of Crab Orchard; a son, Vincent Mosley of Ohio; three brothers, Billy Hodge of Somerset; Allen Hodge of Junction City and Jerry Hodge of Stanford; eight sisters, Betty Adams of Stanford; Alberta Lawson of Lafayette, IN; Wilma Harness of Danville, IN; Josephine West of Nancy; June Hodge of Stanford; Sarah Vangordon of Stanford, and Mary Slone of Stanford; seven grandchildren, Candice Gibson (and Jason), Megan Denney (and Daniel), Matthew Thompson (and Caila), Carrie Harness (and Rob), Rachel Denney (and Jesse), Keith Denney (and Judy) and Tonya Cook (and Terry) and several great-grandchildren.

 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Eldon Harness and Paul Mosley; one son, George Harness; a grandson, Phillip Russell Nicholas “Rusty Harness” and two sisters, Elizabeth Trosper and Nadene Warren.

 

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

DONNA COLLINS

 

Donna Jean Collins, age 65, of Whitley City, formerly of Somerset, passed from this life on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at her home after an extended illness.  Her transition was perhaps made easier as she was surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born on October 9, 1955 in Hazard, Kentucky, daughter of the late Willard Ellis Collins and Jeanette Everage Collins.  Donna Graduated from Pulaski County High School and went on to further her career with Vocational Education.  She was employed for several years in the Funeral Service business as an Attendant.  She also worked in the Frankfort at the State Capitol building for a number of years.  Donna was a kind hearted, loving and generous woman who lived her life to its fullest.  She was of the Baptist Faith and lastly attended the Denham Street Baptist Church.  Donna was an avid UK Basketball fan, she also enjoyed fishing, arts and crafts, playing bingo and card games and most of all spending time with her loving and caring family.  She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

 

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by two  grandchildren; Zendaya Thacker and Jonathan Dewayne Thacker and a great-grandson; Hunter Dewayne (Haynes) Haste.

 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children; Jonathan (Virginia) Thacker of Whitley City and Shonda (James) Elliott of Somerset, two brothers;  Dean (Sharon) Collins of Somerset and Darrell (Brenda) Collins of Lexington, Kentucky,  7 grandchildren; Ashley Haste Steven (Sebrena) Hall and  Jamie Elliott all of Somerset, Mariah and Michael Curry, Naomi Thacker and Jonathan Cooper Thacker all of Whitley City, one great-grandchild; Colton Hall of Somerset and a  host of other relatives and friends.

 

Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company & Crematory. 

 

The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Eric Barnes officiating. 

 

Interment will be in the Quinton Cemetery in Bronston, Kentucky.

DARLENE VANHOOSIER

 

Darlene May Bland Vanhoosier age 89, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital under Hospice care.  

 

Darlene was born May 1, 1932 in Pulaski County to the late Joseph Elbert Bland and Flonnie Johnson Bland. She enjoyed gospel music, cooking, growing flowers, she loved her family and was saved and loved God.  

 

She is survived by two sister, Wanda Lee Pierce of Somerset, Lucille Bucholtz of Union, Ohio, and two brothers, Glenard (H.E.) Bland of Somerset and Joe Bland (Sue) of Nancy, Ky, and several nieces and nephews which she loved, and three dear friends she loved, Elwood and Lois Baker and Kay Withers. 

 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Junior Vanhoosier, which they were married for 73 years, she loved him dearly, and brother in laws, Gordon Pierce and Glen Bucholtz. 

 

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Bro. Gilbert Robinson officiating, entombment will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.  

 

DONNA GOSSETT DAVIS

 

On June 9, 2021, Donna Sue Gossett Davis, age 55, of Somerset, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord.   

 

She was born on May 1, 1966 in Somerset, the daughter of Margaret West Gossett and the late Don Gossett. She was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church and had worked for 28 years as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Donna was a compassionate and caring person and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.  

 

She was preceded in death by her father; and her brother Lucas Gossett.   

 

She is survived by Mark Davis, her loving husband of 32 years; her son, Gabriel Allen Davis of Somerset; her mother, Margaret Gossett; brothers, Eddie (and Kim) West of Somerset, and David (and Debbie) Gossett of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who mourn her passing.   

 

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

WANDA YATES

 

Wanda Yates, age 91 of Burnside, Kentucky, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland. 

 

She was born on July 20, 1929 in Burnside, daughter of the late Claude and Ollie Duncan Foster. She was a retired Teachers Aide for the Pulaski County School System. She was of the Methodist faith and liked working crossword puzzles and watching sports. Wanda loved and cherished her granddaughter, Audrey.   

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Yates; daughter, Claudia Rubin; and her brother, James Foster.  

 

She is survived by her son, Tommy (Tonya) Yates of Somerset; grandchildren, Audrey Yates, Abigail Bowers, and Olivia Bowers.  

 

At her request there will be no funeral service. Interment will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.

HAZEL PEMBERTON

Hazel Pauline Pemberton, formerly of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. She was 86.

 

Born on November 13, 1934, in Boone County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Clara Elliott Kirkpatrick.

 

Pauline was an LPN at Casey County Hospital for twenty years. She also worked at OshKosh. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Liberty. She was active in Judgement House and Vacation Bible School with her church. Pauline was an avid UK and Cincinnati Reds fan.

 

She is survived by a son, Todd Pemberton (Trish McDonald) of Cox’s Creek; three grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and special friends, Kenneth (Lucy) Pemberton and Tommy (Elaine) Wood.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Pemberton; two sisters; and three brothers.

 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Savannah Nicole Burton, age 25 of Berea Ky passed from this life on June 8th, 2021. She was born April 8th, 1996 in Somerset Ky to Donnie and Beverly Burton. 

 

She enjoyed hiking, swimming, camping and being outdoors. She loved traveling and cherished her family and friends. She was employed by DSP at Path Forward of Kentucky. 

 

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Shirley Bates; and paternal grandparents Beecher and Thelma Burton. 

 

She is survived by her parents, Donnie Burton of Somerset and Beverly Burton; daughter Riley Moore; significant other, Ronald Moore; brothers, Nathan Burton of Lexington and Chris Bryant of Lexington; sister Amy Cox of Ky.

ROBERT ALLEN, JR.

 

Robert Allen, Jr., 75, of Eubank, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

He was born December 15, 1945 in Clay County; son of the late Robert & Annie (Burkhart) Allen, Sr. He worked as a blacktop layer for Hinkle Construction.

 

He is survived by his wife, Thelma (Mercer) Allen; a daughter, Amy & (James) Caldwell of Crab Orchard; a stepson, Jimmy Black of Eubank; two sisters, Margaret Grace Hampton of Waynesburg & Ilene Morgan of Eubank; two grandchildren, Isaiah & Emma; three step-grandchildren, Bryanna, Alyssa, & Landon; and a great-granddaughter, Adalynn.

 

He is preceded in death by a son, Robert Travis Allen; five brothers, Marion Allen, Clarence Allen, Leslie Allen, Bert Allen, & Gib Allen; and five sisters, Ruby Profitt, Anna Barber, Pearl Spencer, Lizzie Burns, & Gladys Wesley.

ROY ANDERSON

 

Roy J. Anderson, age 80, of Somerset passed from this life on Saturday June 5, 2021 at his residence surrounded by family and special friends.  He was born November 1, 1940 in Faubush, Kentucky to the late Ray and Octavia Anderson. 

 

Roy accepted Christ over 50 years ago.  He loved farming and growing gardens so he could give away to family and friends.  He always enjoyed coon hunting, his dogs, and fishing.  His passion for John Deere tractors was well known.  Roy was very proud of his tractors, and one could not come visit without seeing each of them.  His love of John Deere tractors was only surpassed by his love of spending time with his grandkids.   

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, special niece Judy Faulkner, sister Rita Anderson and brother Thurman Anderson.  

 

Roy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 60 years, Doris Anderson; son John (Leisa) Anderson, daughter Kathy (Brian) McKee, grandchildren Kyle (Caitlin Quinn) Anderson, Nick Anderson, Allie Dodson (Austin Bailey) and Jaxon McKee.  He is also survived by brother RA Anderson and sisters Jewell Ard and Pat Randolph, as well as a host of special friends and caregivers whom he considered his grandkids and family. 

 

Visitation for Roy will be conducted Wednesday June 9, 2021 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. 

 

Funeral services will follow at 2:30 pm with Pastor Moses Frasure officiating, interment will follow in Southern Oaks Cemetery. 

 

IVA DEAN EMERSON

Iva Dean Emerson, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021, at Casey County Hospital. She was 79.

 

Born on February 6, 1942, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Amy Estes Sims. Iva Dean attended Liberty Church of God. She was a member of Pond Ridge Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and making clothes and riding in their Corvette in the Apple Festival.

 

She is survived by her husband, Jerald Lee Emerson, who she wed on June 10, 1960; a son, Mike (Teresa) Emerson of Jamestown; a granddaughter, April (Jonathan) Grider of Russell Springs; and a great-granddaughter on the way, Emerson Grace Grider. Other survivors include two sisters, Roberta Addington of Waynesburg and Ester Peavy of Franklin, Indiana; and two brothers, Jeff (Judy) Sims of Waynesburg and David “Pete” (Mary Jo) Sims of Columbus, Indiana.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Judy Hart; and a brother, Donald Estes.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Iva Dean Emerson will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Morris Bryant officiating.

Patricia "Pat" Lovella Tibbets, 76, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

She was born in Chattanooga, TN on November 27, 1944; She served her nation as a Military Police officer in the United States Army, and remained a proud Veteran. Pat loved playing BINGO, going to the steakhouse, and most of all, enjoyed socializing.

 

She is survived by her son, Leland Shook, Jr., and a daughter, Kelly Wagers; her grandchildren, Kristopher Barnes, Virgina Shook, Alison Stratton, AJ Williams, Cameron Wagers,Taylor Shook, Kaitlen Green, Austin Stratton; two great-grandchildren, Roman Green, and Evelyn Green; special friends, Della Ridner, Elva Kirkpatrick, Terri Nicole Nathan, Alan James Shane, Cory Lemmon, and Amanda Pittman.

David Sneed, of Waynesburg, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Liberty Care and Rehab. He was 60.

 

Born on January 6, 1961, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Elger D. and Mary Frances Godbey Sneed. David loved his family.

 

He is survived by six brothers, Alvie (Alice) Sneed of Goshen, Ohio, Raymond (Darlene) Sneed of Goshen, Ohio, Edgar Dean (Mary K.) Sneed of Yosemite, Gerald (Gloria) Sneed of Waynesburg, Kenneth (Linda) Sneed of Waynesburg, and Eugene (Frances) Sneed of Franklin, Indiana; four sisters, Brenda Carman of Waynesburg, Ollie Tackett of Hamilton, Ohio, Judy (Sam) Allen of Waynesburg, and Ella Fayrene McAninch of Liberty.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Elger Sneed Jr., Edward Sneed, Russell Sneed; and five sisters, Opal Sneed, Edith Sneed, Elvera Salyers, Edna Atwood, and Elizabeth “Betty” Salyers.

NORMA JEAN TURNER

Norma Jean Turner, 84 of Bedford, IN, passed away on Friday January 1st, 2021, at IU Health in Bedford.

 

She was born on June 23rd, 1936, in Casey County, to William Coy and Ollie McFarland Gibson. Norma married George Turner in Miami, FL on September 8th, 1972, and he preceded her in death.

She was a salesperson and caregiver, her hobbies included doll maker, photography, painting, and writing, she was a member of the Bedford Baptist Temple.

 

Survivors include two sisters, Betty Buck of Bedford, IN and Rachel Estep of Johnson City, TN, one brother, William Stafford of Bradfordsville, KY and four half-brothers, Onie, David, Gary and Danny.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters, Josephine, Barbara, Sylvia and half-brother, Lonnie.

Alan Robert MacHattie, age 89 of Liberty, KY passed away on Wednesday June 2nd, 2021, at his residence. He was born in Schenectady, NY on August 5th, 1931, a son of the late Robert MacHattie Jr and Hazel Antoinette Matthews MacHattie.

 

Alan was the widower of Janet Rae Quivey MacHattie.

 

Alan was a steel worker at G.E. and U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

 

Survivors include: Sons: Rob Roy MacHattie and Jon Alan MacHattie both of Wells, NY, Daughters: Leah Denise Kelty of Liberty and Samantha and (Jacob) Betler of Dunnville, Ten Grandchildren, and Eleven Great Grandchildren.

 

Preceding him in death besides his parents and spouse was One Daughter: Rae Beth MacHattie and One Granchild.

GARY BAKER

 

Gary “Buzz” Baker age 60, of Somerset, passed away from this life on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

He was born on June 12, 1960 in Somerset to the late Edna and Floyd Baker.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Baker, his mother, Edna Baker and his sister, Roseann Wesley.

 

He leaves behind his wife, Sue Baker whom he married on February 14, 1992. Two daughters, Courtney (Brandon) Boyd of Science Hill, Kendra (Bryan) Bishop of Somerset, sister, Edna Sharon Congelton. He also had five grandchildren, Mason Boyd, Briley Jo Boyd, Finley Boyd, Hailey Layne and Ethan Layne, his pride and joy was his grandbabies. He also left behind a host of nieces and nephews, Gary (Dawn) Congelton of Lexington, Jason Congelton, Brian (Laura) Jackson of Somerset, Jami Tohill, Adam Wallen, Taylor Wallen, Mary Storm Wesley. Brother in laws, Jeff (Cyndi) Wallen, Mark (Angie) Wallen both of Somerset. He also leaves behind, his only aunt Jenny (Edsel) Dawes of Ohio, along with a host of cousins.

 

Gary was a faithful member of Potters Place Church. He was a dedicated member of Somernites Cruise since 2002, where he served as President in 2015 and was currently serving as Vice President. During those years he acquired many life-long friends. He was always known for having an infectious smile on his face and always greeting everyone with all the kindness in the world.

 

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 5:00 P.M. at Potters Place Church.

 

Funeral service will be held Friday, June 4, 2021 at 11 A.M. at the church with Bro. Clyde Strunk and Bro. Kevin Hampton officiating, burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Malcolm Douglas, of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was 76.

 

Born on July 12, 1944, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Chester Douglas and Enola Lynn Pratt. Malcolm was retired from General Motors after 30+ years. He was a hardworking family man. He enjoyed old cars and bluegrass music. Malcolm was a Mason.

 

He is survived by a son, David Douglas of Liberty; a daughter, Denise (JR) Sheene of Liberty; four grandchildren, Brittany, Danielle, Molly, and Ashton; and six great-grandchildren, Trenton, Ian, Trey, Alexis, Althea, and Jay; two brothers, Garland Douglas of Cincinnati and Jack Douglas of Liberty; and a sister, Matrie Martin of Liberty.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Joe Douglas; three brothers, JC Douglas, Dallon Douglas, and Delano Douglas; and five sisters, Frances Allen, Vearin Shaw, Agatha Shaw, Pam Garrett, and Roxie Mann.
