Troy William Brown, age 60, of Harrison, OH., passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.

 

Troy was born on October 12, 1961 in Cincinnati, OH., to the late Glenn William Brown and Mary Jo Keeney Dunn. He was an avid music fan and enjoyed going to concerts, fishing, traveling, following politics and playing the guitar. He was also a member of the NRA.

 

He is survived by his father, Earl Dunn, Sr. of Somerset; his four children, Christopher (Keri) Brown of Cincinnati; Jennifer Brown of Hamilton, OH; Erik (Jennifer) Brown of Ludlow, KY and Jacob Brown of Harrison, OH; his life partner, Sue Ann Dean of Harrison, OH; ten grandchildren, Alexander Brown, Harrison Brown, Shaylee Strong , Lillian Strong, Stone Strong, and Dean Strong, Ryder Bishop, Annabelle Bishop, Luke Brown, Vivienne Brown; one brother, Terry Wayne (Rebecca) Brown of Dayton, TN; one sister, Deborah Ann (Mike) Griffith of Milford, OH and several nieces and nephews.

 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Samantha Brown; a brother, Earl Dunn, Jr. and a sister, Tawnya Grider.

 

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

 

His funeral service will follow on Monday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home Bro. Tony Hall officiating.

Janell Frances Godbey, 85, of Waynesburg, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at her residence.

 

She was born February 9, 1936 in Waynesburg; daughter of the late Chester & Maggie (McKnight) Cornett. She was a homemaker and was very loved by her family.

 

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Roy of Liberty; two brothers, Chester and Herman Cornett, both of Lincoln County; a sister, Lenor Bowman of Lincoln County; and a grandchild, Michael Adams of Eubank.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther Godbey; a daughter, Lavonna Adams; two brothers, Wendell and Ernest Cornett; two sisters, Betty Foister and Charity Cornett; and a grandchild, Tanya Prewitt.

Lori Ann McMullin, 50, of Yosemite, passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 at her residence.

 

She was born August 20, 1971 in Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter of Robert & Iva (Dick) McMullin.

 

She is survived by her parents and a brother, Ricky McMullin of Texas.

 

She is preceded in death by three siblings, Bobby, Jackie, & Timmy McMullin.

Phyllis Wethington, age, 72 of Liberty, KY passed away on Tuesday October 26th, 2021, at her residence. She was born July 12th, 1949, in Casey Co., KY, a daughter of the late Elvie Leslie Lee and Mary Etta Wethington Lee.

 

Phyllis was the widow of Lawrence “Runt” Wethington who passed away on July 10th, 2009.

 

Phyllis was a housewife.

 

Survivors include: Two Daughters: Kim and (Adam) Montgomery of Columbia and Erica Wethington and (Darrin Wesley) of Liberty, Three Grandchildren: Brayden and Braxton Wethington and Callie Montgomery. One Brother: Garnett Lee of Liberty and One Sister: Kathryn Gibson of Indianapolis, IN.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents and spouse was One Grandson: Marcus Sheene, Three Sisters: Virginia Doss, Anna Cundiff and Carolyn Payton and Two Brothers: Leslie “Bubby” Lee and Albert “Bo” Lee.

CAROLYN BUBNICK

Carolyn Renee Bubnick, age 24, of Somerset, KY., passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

Carolyn was born on September 1, 1997 in September 1, 1997 in Somerset, KY., to Jason Smith and Jamie Lee Gosser. Carolyn got saved and was baptized at Woodstock Baptist Church. She was a 2015 Somerset High School graduate and enjoyed swimming, dancing, and doing crafts.

 

She is survived by her husband, Austin Bubnick; two sons, Braxton Tyler Lee Stepp and Noah Storm Gosser; her parents, Jason Smith of Dayton, OH and Jamie Lee Gosser of Somerset, KY; a stepdad, Jerol “Jerry” Stepp of Jacksonville, FL; a grandmother, Paula Gosser of Nancy, KY; an aunt, Jennifer Gosser of Nancy and her step-grandparents, Carolyn & Jerol Stepp of Bronston.

 

Carolyn was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clifton and Carolyn Gosser and Crystal Wright, and a great-grandmother, Dorothy Smith.

Gladys Faye Cross Piercy, age, 82 of Stanford, KY passed away on Monday October 25th, 2021, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was born April 14th, 1939, in Casey Co., KY, a daughter of the late Sherman and Nellie Mills Rigney.

 

Gladys was a former L.P.N. and a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Muncie, IN.

 

Survivors include: Two Sons: William Ernest Cross of Yosemite and Ernie Cross of Winchester, Three Daughters: Jolene Miller of Stanford, Judy Carrier of Nicholasville and Linda Hinkle of Nicholasville, Twenty-One Grandchildren, and Forty Great Grandchildren.

Hugh Frazier New, age 91, of Somerset, KY., passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Somerset Nursing and Rehab Center.

 

Hugh was born on June 28, 1930 in Eubank, KY., to the late Cornelius Levy and Lola Jane Miller New. He was a member of High Street Baptist Church and worked many years at Western Recorder in Louisville. He loved gardening and cooking.

 

He is survived by two sons, Cecil (Paula) New of Loveland, OH and Malcolm (Ann) New of Taylorsville, KY; a daughter, Laura Hounchell of Somerset, KY; two grandchildren, Jonathan (Erin) New and Elizabeth (Josh) Foor and three great-granddaughters, Adelaide Rae New, Anabella Avery New, and Gabriella Mae Foor.

 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lois Smiley New; two brothers, Forrest and Max New and one sister, Naomi Darnell.

Junior Wayne Strunk, age 70, of Burnside, KY., passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

 

Junior was born on July 16, 1951 to the late Namon Ottis and Edith Leslie Colyer Strunk. He worked for Union Construction for 35 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. Junior was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

 

He is survived by his wife, Deborah June Waters Strunk of Burnside, KY; a son, Scotty Wayne Strunk (Pamela) of Independence, KY; a daughter, Amy Strunk Bingham (Christopher “Derek”) of Somerset, KY; four grandchildren, Sydney Elizabeth and Madelyn Grace Strunk and Skyler Lewis Burkett, and Joshua Allen Strunk; one brother, Benny Strunk (Peggy) of Somerset, KY and three sisters, Wilma Cook, Ann Nicholas, and Marilyn Strunk, all of Somerset.

 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Gladys Johnson, Sue Dowell, Charlotte Strunk, and Edna Harrison, and one brother, Samuel Strunk.

JERRY MCCLENDON

Jerry Lee McClendon, age 61, of Nancy, KY., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, October 22, 2021.

 

Jerry was born on August 25, 1960 in Greenfield, IN., to Orpha Faulkner and the late Furl McClendon. He spent many years of his life in the HVAC and was also a Deputy Jailer at the Pulaski County Detention Center. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

 

He is survived by two sons, Joe (Brittany) McClendon of Nancy and Joshua (Marissa) McClendon of Nancy; one daughter, Lisa (Nathan) McGowan of Nancy; seven grandchildren, Brody, Jaxon, and Boone McClendon, Case and Cora McGowan, and Benjamin and baby McClendon; his mother, Orpha Faulkner; his former wife of 26 years, Peggy McClendon of Nancy; a sister, Velda Martin of Somerset; his stepmother, Delota McClendon of Nancy; a stepbrother, Jonathan (Amanda) Tyree of Nancy; several nieces and nephews; a host of cousins, and his best friend who he always called a brother, Rex (Penny) Mink.

 

Along with his father, Furl McClendon, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie McClendon; his stepdad, William Faulkner; his paternal grandparents, Arvil and Lucy and his maternal grandparents, Cornelius and Jewretta Wilson.

John Rowland Jr., 91 years of age of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life on Friday, October 22, 2021 at his home.

 

He was born February 20, 1930 in Paintsville, Kentucky.  He was the loving husband to Julie Rowland and his first wife and loving mother to his children Monsa Belle Rowland whom he married on July 5, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio and whom departed this life on April 9, 2011. He was also a member of the Cumberland Church of Christ in Somerset.

 

He was survived by his three sons, James Douglas Rowland ( and Joann) of Cambridge, Ohio, Craig Anthony Rowland (and Katie) of Golden, Colorado, and John Timothy Rowland  (and Hope) of Owenton, Kentucky; three daughters, Teresa Whaley (and Bruce) of Grove City, Ohio, Lesa Lau (and Jeff) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Kriscille Donning (and Russ) from Orient, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren, Jason Rowland, Erin Taylor (and Nick), Jessica Weiss (and Justin), Chase Rowland, Ami Pratt (and Charlie), Josh Pratt (and Allison), Jeffrey Estep (and Sarah) , Shawn Carte, Jonathan Carte, Justin Lau , Kristen Penley (and Chris), Brandon Crishbaum (and Kelsey), Zachary Crishbaum (and Kristiana),  Cole Rowland, Austin Rowland (and Tori); sixteen great grandchildren, Brycen Taylor, Corben Taylor, Nolan Weiss, Cody Derifield, Devin Derirfield, Noah Derifield, Charlee Hane,  Cecilia Pratt, Hudson Pratt, Serenity Estep, Neveah Welker, Sophia Robinson, Eleanor Crishbaum, Lillian Crishbaum, Hayden Crishbaum, and Cooper Crishbaum.

J.C. was a construction worker.

FAYE GARRETT

Faye Garrett, of Dunnville, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021, in Danville. She was 74.

 

Born August 2, 1947, in Casey Co., KY, she was a daughter of the late Perry and Pocahontas “Pokey” Pittman Lane. Faye was a housewife. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with all of her grandchildren. Faye was a member of the Lord’s Harvest Church.

 

Survivors include her son, Greg Garrett of Dunnville; daughters, Karen (and Jimmy) Vaught and Lisa Patton, both of Dunnville; sister, Barbara Eads of Dunnville; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kenneth “Bob” Garrett, who passed away on March 2, 2021; brothers, Hubert Lane and Edwin Lane; and sisters, Susie Harmon and Della Crew.

 

Graveside funeral services will be at 2:30PM Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Salem Cemetery with Bro. Leonard Pierce officiating.

NELL DAVIS

Nell Bogie Davis, of Stanford, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at her home. She was 95.

 

Born on June 13, 1926, in Hustonville, she was the daughter of the late Joe T. and Effie Lunsford Bogie.

 

Nell was a classroom teacher in the Lincoln County School System for thirty-five years. She was a member of the Stanford Presbyterian Church, Lincoln County Historical Society, Logan Whitley DAR, Lincoln County Cattleman’s Association, Farm Bureau, and Retired Teachers Association.

 

Through the years, Nell donated many hours to the community serving as a 4-H leader, committee member of the Hustonville Heritage Days, Lincoln County Fair, Presbyterian Meeting House, and L and N Railroad Museum. For ten years, she enjoyed working for Martin Tours and Traveling.

 

She had a deep love of farming, working in her yard and garden, and watching horse shows. Nell loved history, antiquing, and having lunch with friends at Coleman’s.

 

She is survived by one daughter, Jane (Wayne) Berry; one son, Tommy (Kaye) Davis; one granddaughter, Amy (Troy) Sparks; two grandsons, Clayton (Jessica) Davis and Mark (Brittany) Davis; two great-granddaughters, Bailey Kate Sparks and Kinley Clay Davis; two great-grandsons, Brody Thomas Davis and William Clayton Davis; one brother in-law, Joe Dietz of New Castle, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clay P. Davis, Jr; two sisters, Dorothy McElfresh and JoAnn Dietz; and three brothers, William Bogie, Hayes Bogie, and Alvin Bogie.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, conducted by Bill Demrow at Fox and Friend Funeral Home in Stanford. Jim Erwin and Bobby Clay Camenisch will officiate the service with burial following in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Fox and Friend Funeral Home.

Jeffrey Wayne "Jeff" Messer, 56 of Junction City passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021 at his home.  He was the son of Floria Rene (Blanton) Messer & the late Levi Messer.  Jeff was a 1983 Lincoln County High School Graduate.  He was a manager for Donaldson having worked for them for  twenty plus years.

JIMMY ADAMS

James Carlton "Jimmy" Adams, 83 beloved father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 at his home in Crab Orchard.  He was the husband of Elizabeth Ann (Middleton) Adams whom he married on September 8, 1961.  Jimmy was born in Lincoln County on July 28, 1938 to the late Charles Edward "Peck" and Dorothy (Messer) Adams.  Jimmy was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and was a veteran of the United States Army.  He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid sports fan especially for UK and the Boyle County Rebels.  He had previously worked as a State Commercial Building Inspector and as a former Lincoln County Building Inspector.  Jimmy was a very well known and loved referee, having refereed many high school basketball games for over 30 years. He was in the 12th Region Hall of Fame and was The coach of the 1970 Jessamine County 13 Year Old Baseball State Champs.

ROGER PADGETT

Roger Dale Padgett, age 66, of Liberty, Kentucky, formerly of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky.  Born Wednesday, January 12, 1955, in Boyle County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Hubert & Rosie Adams Padgett.  Roger was the former owner of Padgett’s Garage and currently worked at Toyoda Gosel in Lebanon, Kentucky.  Roger loved old cars and motorcycles.  He will be remembered by many as “Crazy Roger”.

 

Roger leaves behind three sisters, Joyce Coleman of McKinney, Kentucky, Lucille Justice (Shelby) of Waynesburg, and Eva Hazlett (Jack) of Stanford, Kentucky; special nephew, Shane Padgett (Kimberly) of Waynesburg; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.

 

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim Padgett, David “Tiny” Padgett, Arlie Padgett, & Bob Padgett.

DONALD BARRON

Donald E. Barron, 81, of Nancy, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

He was born September 18, 1940 in Somerset; son of the late Raymond & Tressie (Reynolds) Barron. He never met a stranger and was known for his work as a welder and machinist by many.

 

He is survived by his children, Jackie & (Jesse) Smith, Greg & (Ester) Barron, Don Barron, Jr., Allison & (Tim) Roberts, and Amanda & (Rodney) Russell, all of Somerset; two brothers, Beecher & (Ann) Barron and Roger & (Matilda) Barron, both of Eubank; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Loren, Milton, and Bobby Barron; three sisters, Joyce Buis, Fay Ray, and Alice Leger; a grandson, Brian; a great-grandson, Logan; and a nephew, Rodney.

Robert A. Hall, 92, of Somerset, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington.

JAMES SHARPE

James Edgar “Jim” Sharpe, a lifelong resident of Somerset, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at age 91. He was the son of the late Rector Thomas “Rex” Sharpe and Agnes Amanda Gregory Sharpe.

 

Jim is survived by his children: Sherry (Frankie) Girdler, Joseph (Debra Lambert) Sharpe and Jami Sharpe Fothergill. Affectionately known as “Pop” by his grandchildren, his is survived by nine grandchildren: Chris (Courtney) Girdler, Francesca Girdler, Trey Sharpe, Jessica Sharpe (David) Guffey, A.J. (Katie) Sharpe, Britnie Fothergill (Brett) Davidson, Chelsea Sharpe (Evan) Woolums, Kalyn Fothergill (Adam) Linville and Taylor (Paige) Fothergill. Jim is survived by eight great-grandchildren: Charleston Girdler, Channing Girdler, Farrah Micek, Dean Sharpe, Sam Stringer, Luke Sharpe, Brody Davidson and Emery Linville. His brother and best friend, William Gregory “Bill” Sharpe also survives. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jo Murphy Sharpe, His son, James Edgar “Chip” Sharpe, II, son-in-law, Brent Fothergill, and brothers, Rector Thomas “Rex” Sharpe, Jr. and Charles Robert “Charlie Bob” Sharpe.

 

A veteran of the US Navy, Jim served his country in both WWII and the Korean War. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church in Somerset.

 

Jim Sharpe was an innovative entrepreneur who dreamed big and worked hard to make many of his dreams come true. Jim started and operated several successful business ventures: grocery and furniture stores, restaurants, automobile and boat dealerships, marinas and houseboat manufacturing. Jim is recognized as the founder of the houseboat industry, having built his first houseboat in 1953. Jim received many awards over the years from the marine and boating industry. He was honored when Houseboat Magazine, on the 50th Anniversary of the building of his first houseboat, dubbed him “Mr. Houseboat.” Jim owned and operated Sumerset Houseboats until he retired and sold that company in 1996. His sons, Chip and Joe, and son-in-law, Brent Fothergill, then established and operated Sharpe Houseboats until 2012, where Jim dearly loved to hang out and visit with all the employees and boat customers.

 

Jim also loved his community. He and his brother Bill built Somerset’s first public swimming pool, started the youth football program and helped start and promote the early tourism initiatives in Somerset. Jim was very proud of having been recently inducted, alongside his brother Bill, into the Somerset High School Hall of Fame. Over the years, Jim employed many people in the region and the Pulaski Chamber of Commerce honored him in 2000 with the Distinguished Community Service Award.

 

Should friends desire, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, First Baptist Church of Somerset or your favorite charity in Jim’s honor.

 

A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the First Baptist Church with visitation from 12pm to 2pm.

 

A memorial service will follow at 2pm. Brother David Pendley will officiate the service.

JOSEPHINE BOLIN

Josephine Bolin, age 88, of Burnside, KY, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Somerset Nursing and Rehab.

 

Josephine was born on May 18, 1933 in Burnside, KY to the late Charlie Neal and Lucy Brummett.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Burnside.

 

Josephine’s surviving family members include; Sandy (and Edsel) Frye of Burnside; Stephannie (and Adam) Frye of Burnside; and one son, Joseph Bolin of Louisville.

 

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Bolin, whom she married on June 6, 1951 in Somerset and he preceded her on September 25, 2007; and several brothers and sisters.

 

A Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 10:00am at Burnside Cemetery.

Gary Wright, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was 61.

 

Born on February 1, 1960, in Russell Springs, he was the son of Rosezella Luttrell Wright, of Russell Springs, and the late James Tracy Wright. Gary was formerly a laborer at Floyd Gate and Chieftain Steel. He was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church. He loved being with his family and especially enjoyed attending family gatherings. He was an avid UK basketball fan.

 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Glenna Joyce Matherly Wright, of Liberty; a sister, Patricia (Jeff) Hancock of Russell Springs; two brothers, Roger Lewis (Connie) Wright of Liberty and William David Wright of Dunnville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a brother, Michael Ray Wright.

HERSHEL MURPHY JR.

Hershel Lee “Esau” Murphy, Jr., age 59, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at his home.

 

Born February 13, 1962, in Somerset, KY, he was a son of Hershel Lee Murphy, Sr. and Rosalee Cochran Murphy. Hershel was a former hod carrier in the masonry business. He was a jokester and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He attended the 910 Full Gospel Church.

 

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Reynolds Murphy, whom he wed on May 1, 1999; sons, Jacob (and Breana) Murphy of Dunnville and Isaac Murphy of Liberty; daughters, Angela Holt of Jamestown and Betty Rodgers of Liberty; parents, Hershel, Sr. and Rosalee Murphy of Liberty; brothers, Kevin Dewayne Murphy and Kent Alan Murphy, both of Liberty; sisters, Teresa Ann (and Mark) Holt and Lisa Michelle (and Joe) Cox, both of Liberty; 2 grandchildren, Brentley and Tanner; and his mother-in-law, Judith Kay Wilson of Liberty.

 

He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Jordan Lee Corn and Tristin Lee Murphy.

BILL LEATHERBURY

Bill Leatherbury, age 72, of Dunnville, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY.

 

Born May 23, 1949, in Switzerland Co., IN, he was a son of the late Chester and Mary Pickett Leatherbury. Bill was a retired foreman and welder for Arvin’s in Franklin, IN. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a hardworking, very loving, and caring father that would go above and beyond for family. He had a sense of humor, loved to make people smile and laugh, and never met a stranger. His family has many treasured memories together – he will be missed, remembered, and not forgotten. Bill loved fishing, hunting, as well as ice cream cones. He lived life to the fullest. He would often say we never know when our last day will be, when it is your time to go it is your time to go.

 

Survivors include his children, Michelle Leatherbury, Gary Partin, and Terra Partin; brothers, Chester (and Carolyn) Leatherbury, Hugh Leatherbury, and James (and Nancy) Leatherbury; sisters, Mary and Sharon Leatherbury; 7 grandchildren; and loving special friends, Trinna Leatherbury, Buddy and Ula Tinsley, Jeff Luckey, Kent Emerson, Timmy Belcher, and Kenny Belcher.

 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers.

Angie Davis, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at St. Joseph East in Lexington. She was 75.

 

Born on March 26, 1946, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Cornelus and Nettie Matherly Stephens. Angie retired from OshKosh as a seamstress. She was a member of Labascus Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing, animals, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a selfless person.

 

She is survived by a son, Steve (Kim) Davis of Liberty; a daughter, Carol Buis of Liberty; three sisters, Devonda Luttrell of Liberty, Judy Sharp of Dunnville, and Roseleen Luttrell of Liberty; three grandchildren, Kamryn, Kara, and Kayla; and two great-grandchildren, Audie and Halie.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Garland Davis, who passed away on August 8, 2014; three sisters, Jewell Stone, Hila Jean Gray, and Norma Leen Caruthers; and ten brothers, Vertis Stephens, Edgar Stephens, Garvey Stephens, Mervin Stephens, Verlen Stephens, Carroll Stephens, Jerry Stephens, Jackie Stephens, Charles Pevley, and Hollis Pevley.

She was born December 3, 2007 in Georgetown, Ohio; daughter of Crystal Baker & (Billy Bebout) and the late Jack William Hughes. She loved anime, cosplay, drawing, singing, and sewing. She was very creative and talented and was very loved by her family.

He was born July 26, 1958 in Somerset; son of the late Charles & Lou Etta (Prows) Head. He was a member of the 1976 graduating class of Pulaski County High School. He owned and operated Steve Head Excavating.

 

He is survived by his wife, Karen Ann (Miller) Head; two daughters, Susan & (Brad) Sloan of Somerset and Stephanie Head of Lexington; two sisters, Christina Head-Miller of Somerset and Winnetta & (Bobby) Turner of Lexington; six grandchildren, Logan Randall, Maddox Mink, Pruett, Finnlee, & Scarlett Sloan, and Xander Metz; four step-children, Natasha & (Erich) Moberly of Rapid City, South Dakota, Ashlei & (Brent) Burdine of Eubank, Courtney Barker of Lexington, and Thomas Jones II & (Kortney Jones) of Somerset; and a host of family and friends.

Joyce Hargis, age 86, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

Joyce was born on May 16, 1935 in Dabney, KY to the late Ova Johnson and Syreptia Mayfield Johnson.  She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Shopville, where she actively served and was the church treasurer.  Joyce enjoyed sewing and cooking.  She retired as a seamstress from Palm Beach. 

 

She is survived by two grandchildren, Jason (and Kayce) Arthur and Crystal (and Cory) Jackson; and two great grandchildren, Caden Jackson and Campbel Jackson.

 

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clemon Hargis, whom she married on June 27, 1953 and he preceded her on August 3, 2015; one daughter, Sondra Arthur; one brother, Darwin Johnson; and three sisters, Francis Emogene Johnson, Wilma White and Betty Phelps.

 

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Debra Frances "Debbie" Hamilton Hines, 66 of Somerset, passed from this life on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the St. Joseph Hospital in London, Kentucky.

 

She was born on November 28, 1954 in Somerset, daughter of the late Jack and Madeline Goforth Hamilton.  She was a member of the 1972 graduating class of Pulaski County High School.  Debbie was employed at the old Palm Beach Manufacturing Company for a number of years.  She was also a dedicated employee of Love More Jewelry and enjoyed working on the farm with her husband.

 

Debbie was of the Baptist Faith and a faithful member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.  She was known for her compassionate and generous personality.  She loved her church family and friends dearly.  Debbie enjoyed helping others and was known for her outgoing personality.  She will be fondly remembered by many whose lives she touched in a positive and meaningful way.  She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

 

Besides her parents; Jack and Madeline Goforth Hamilton, she is preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law; Roy and Gladys Hines.

 

Debbie is survived by her husband; Roy Russell Hines, whom she married on November 16, 1973 at the First Christian Church by Rev. Lee Fisher.  They have enjoyed over 48 years of life together.  She is also survived by a son; Ryan Eric Hines and was a loving Nannie to Austin and Savannah Hines.  Debbie leaves behind to also cherish her memory her siblings; Larry (Shirley) Hamilton, Vicki (Dwight) Dillow, Jackie Smith, Becky Hamilton and Tim Hamilton, a brother-in-law; Glen (Linda) Hines and a sister-in-law; Suzy (Marty) Kalz, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

 

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Immanuel Baptist Church.

Milton Lawhorn, of Lexington, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021, at his home. He was 63.

 

Born on February 5, 1958, in Lexington, Kentucky, he was the son of Maxine Anderson Lawhorn and the late Alfred Dowell Lawhorn. Milton enjoyed motorcycles and was a dog lover.

Paul Allen Bowden, age 63, of Somerset, KY., passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

Paul was born on August 9, 1958 in Muncie, IN., to the late Albert Don and Maxine Belzer Bowden. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids and playing cards. He loved to joke and cut up with everyone and enjoyed his “first of the month” sandwiches.

 

He is survived by a daughter, Tonya (and Scott) Cordell of Somerset; six grandchildren, Rachel, Hunter, Storm, Tate, McKenzie, and McKayla Cordell; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Naomi (and Bruce) King of Bronston; Donna Coffey, Brenda Coffey, and Billie Bowden all of Whitley City, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Allen Lee Bowden; two brothers, Scott and David Bowden and a sister, Nova Lee Bowden.

Born on October 11, 1981, in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, he was the son of Jerry Frank and Vivian Ann Nevins Thompson, of Tompkinville.

 

Brance was a social worker. He had a BSW in Social Work Clinician 2. He was the Chief of his Adult Protective Services Unit in Warren County. Brance was raised in Tompkinsville Church of Christ and was currently a member of Alvaton Church of Christ. He loved reading his bible, leatherwork, and making furniture. He was a jokester and an avid University of Tennessee fan. Brance loved spending time with his family and his dog, Maddy Bear, but especially loved being with his daughter.

 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Drema Murphy Thompson; a daughter, Paisley Dawn Thompson; a maternal grandmother, Jean Nevins of Tompkinsville; mother and father in-law, Dwight and Donna Murphy of Liberty; sister in-law, Tiffany (Ronnie) Sharp of Liberty; grandmother in-law, Phyllis Lyons of Campbellsville; niece, Lily Nicole Sharp; nephew, Ryan Levi Sharp; and a host of aunts, uncles, and additional family.  

 

Brance is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Ray Nevins; paternal grandparents, Jess Frank and Clara Thompson; and grandparents in-law, Lawrence Sonny Lyons, and Don and Matrie Pendleton.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. EST on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Spaw officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Poplar Hill Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Jerry Frank Thompson, Dwight Murphy, Ronnie Sharp, James Harmon, Brandon Wisdom, Wesley Spears, and Brian Hagan.

HENRY COOMER

“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.”

 

Henry Lane Coomer, son of Austin and Hannah Coomer was born on September 28, 2021 at 8:11 p.m. Henry passed peacefully in his parents arms shortly after. Henry was able to hold hands with his mother and father, receive hugs and kisses, and was able to be told “I love you” an uncountable amount of times.

 

Henry is survived by his parents, Austin and Hannah Coomer, maternal grandparents, Brian and Stephanie Whitaker, paternal grandparents, Rolan and Terri Coomer, aunt, Emily Whitaker (Lakynn and Kipp Baber) and uncle, John Coomer (Evelyn Floyd). Henry is also survived by great grandparents, aunts and uncles and many cousins who loved him.

 

Henry was welcomed into Heaven by his older sibling Baby Coomer, maternal great grandmother, Glenice Harness, maternal grandparents, Glenna and Howard Edwards, aunt, Betty Young, uncle, Doug Whitaker, paternal grandparents, Alice and Buell Coomer.

 

A celebration of life will be held on October 11, 2021 at Pulaski Funeral Home.

 

An open come and go memorial will be held from 5-6 p.m. for the public, with a private memorial service for family and close friends starting at 6 p.m.

DORIS MEECE

Doris Rose Meece, age 70, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

Doris was born on June 25, 1951 to the late Charlie Floyd and Maggie Mayfield Floyd.  She was of the Baptist faith.  She loved farming and gardening.  Doris especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her fur babies, “Buster” and “Bella”.

 

She is survived by her loving husband, John “Buck” Meece, whom she married on May 29, 1971 in Nancy, KY; one daughter, Carla (and Kenneth) McClanahan of Bedford, KY; one granddaughter, Emily Meece (and Kyle Jackson) of Somerset, KY; one great grandson, Joseph Jackson; three brothers, Jay (and Carol) Floyd of Frankfort, Everett Floyd of Carrollton, KY and Charles Floyd of Nancy, KY; five sisters, Nadine Denham of Somerset, KY, Toni (and Danny) Meece of Nancy, KY, Wilda (and Larry) Morris of Nancy, KY, Iva Molden of Nancy, KY and Melinda (and Shawn) Robert of Nancy, KY; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. 

 

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Lloyd Meece, who passed away on January 22, 2008; and her mother-in-law, Georgia Meece.

LARRY MARCUM

Larry Marcum, 70, of Somerset, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility after an extended illness.

 

He was born on March 12, 1951 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, son of the late Orville Pearl Marcum and Flonnie Mae Brown Marcum.

 

He was a machine operator with Southern Bell Dairy for over 29 years prior to his retirement.  Larry was a hardworking, industrious and generous man who loved his family.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, farming and watching his favorite tv shows; “Gunsmoke and “Car Races”.  Larry’s greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He was also enthusiastic about watching his granddaughter work her horses.  Larry was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Nelson Valley Baptist Church.  He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Donald Marcum, Orville Marcum, Billy Marcum, Lloyd Marcum, Kenneth Marcum, Carl Marcum, Vernon Owens, Ray Owens, Raymond Marcum and Ralph Marcum, four sisters; Artie Mae Jenkins, Madgeline Roberts, Lucille (John) Farmer and Helen Faye Marcum along with a great-grandchild; Greyson Lane Marcum and a nephew; Jordan Nicholas, a sister-in-law; Wanda June Estep. His father and mother-in law; Robert and Nancy Flynn.

 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Carolyn Flynn Marcum of Somerset, two sons; Bobby Joe (Joni) Marcum and Brandon Lee (Cora Lea) all of Somerset, three grandchildren; Tyler (Heylee) Marcum, Kylee Michele Marcum and Lyndsey Kristen Marcum, one great-grandchild; Brenlee Jo Marcum and a sister; Mildred Franklin of Somerset, as well as a sister-in-law; Shelia Nicholas,  several nieces and nephews and a host other relatives and friends.

JERRY WHITAKER

Jerry Allen Whitaker, 75 of Somerset, who had planned for his transition and made his final wishes known, passed from this life on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

He was born on December 2, 1945 in the Squib Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky, son of the late James Walter and Pearlie Burdine Whitaker.  Jerry was an assembly-line worker at the old Lear-Siegler manufacturing Plant for a number of years.  He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, watching game shows and the daily news.  He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends.  He was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Bethany Baptist Church.  He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

 

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a son; Jerry Allen Whitaker, Jr. and a daughter; Sabrina Stigall, four brothers; James, Scoble, Ronald and Carlos  Whitaker, a sister; Orpha Burton Adkins and another sister who died in infancy.

 

He is survived by his daughter; Christina Pearl Sroufe of Somerset, and Wanda Bell Whitaker, the mother of his children whom he married on November 24, 1965.  He is also survived by  a sister; Norma Carlton of Pittsboro, Indiana, three grandchildren; Payton Whitaker, Jessica Whitaker and Jenessa Sroufe, five great-grandchildren; Shadrik, Blade and Jerick Smurr, Levi Whitaker and Rozalee McCranie, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

A Private Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Bethany Baptist Church with Bro. Will Brown and Bro. David Hawk officiating. 

 

Burial was in the Whitaker Cemetery.

ODESSA WILKEY

Odessa Katherine Wilkey, of Liberty, passed away at Baptist Heath in Lexington on October 6, 2021. She was 82.

 

Born on January 17, 1939, in Morgan, OH, she was the daughter of the late Wallace A. and Leona Rowland Gillogly. Odessa was active with the Casey County Pork Producers Association for many years, she enjoyed working with them at the Apple Festival. She also was a caretaker for numerous years.

 

She is survived by her sons, Ronnie Wilkey of Cordele, Georgia, and John, Donnie, and Tom Wilkey, all of Liberty; a daughter, Kim Lorance of Liberty; three sisters, Mary Lou (John) Brimner of Ft. Wayne, IN, Ruth Ann (Dick) Brietzke of Manitou Beach, MI, and Martha Collins of Taylors, SC; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

 

No services will be held at this time.

NEIL MEECE

Neil Meece, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at his home in Dunnville. He was 70.

 

Born on October 10, 1950, in Casey Co., he was the son of the late Selby and Pauline Harris Meece. He was a night watchman for Tarter’s and former truck driver for Tarter’s and the Barry Davis Gate Shop. He was a jokester and enjoyed making people laugh. Neil was a US Army veteran.

 

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lay Meece; daughters, Michelle Bennett of Clinton, MS and Tammy (Jimmy) Phelps of Liberty; son, Jason Meece; sister, Dina Moore of Fishers, IL; 3 grandchildren, Bradley, Tyler, and Wyatt; and 2 great-grandchildren, Caroline and Liam.

 

In addition to his parents, Neil is preceded in death by a son, Neil Meece, Jr.; brothers, Gary, Luke, and Ray Meece; and sisters, Wanda Luttrell and Juanita York.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Friday, October 8, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

MAXINE MARTIN

Maxine Martin, 93, of Eubank, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Somerset Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility.

 

She was born on September 30, 1928 in Pulaski County; daughter of the late Chester & Mary Belle (Emerson) Eubank. She was the owner of Old Eubank Standard Station and a member of Eubank Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and spending time with her family.

 

She is survived by three children, Roger & (Hedy) Martin, Linda & (Lester) Suber, and Gerald & (Patty) Martin; four grandchildren, Doug & (Gina) Surber, Jerry & (Shelly) Martin, Kristi Norman, and Andrew & (Erika) Martin; three step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a host of step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Lester Martin; and a daughter, Joyce Ann Martin.

Henry Clay Burchfield “HC” was born February 8, 1944 to Mabel Farmer Burchfield and Henry C. Burchfield of Mt. Victory, Kentucky. H.C. passed away as a result of a Covid-19 infection on September 29, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

 

He was employed for 35 years at General Electric Glass Plant, Somerset, KY, retiring in 2000. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers; Vernon and Ronald Burchfield.

Brian S, Bowling, 38 of Monticello, Kentucky passed from this life on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

 

He was born in Tucson, Arizona on September 6, 1983, son of Dianne Carol Reed Bowling  and Dennis Bowling.  Brian enjoyed life and was a jovial type person, who always had a  positive outlook on things and enjoyed sharing and being around his family and friends.  He also enjoyed fishing and watching his favorite wrestling shows.  He was a kind-hearted, loving and generous person and will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Susan Jane Fitzsimon, 63, of Bronston, Kentucky passed from this life unexpectedly on Sunday, September 29, 2021 at her home.

 

She was born on June 7, 1958 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, daughter of the late Sherman and Mildred Keith Phillips.  She was a loving, kind-hearted Person and enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her beloved pets.  Susan was a “social-lite” type individual and enjoyed traveling, cooking, especially baking and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

 

Besides her parents; Sherman and Mildred Phillips, she is preceded in death by a sister; Kathy Christopher.

MARTHA ALLISON

Martha Allison, of Liberty, KY, passed away on October 2 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was 69.

 

Martha, beloved Mom and Granny, was born on September 5, 1952, to Earl Wilson and Jean Wilson Noll in Cincinnati. After graduating high school at Oak Hills, she worked as a beauty consultant in Louisville before moving to Los Angeles and working as a dental hygienist in Beverly Hills. After moving back to Ohio, she ultimately settled in Liberty, KY, where she married her beloved husband Greg Allison with whom she co-owned a landscaping business for many years.

 

Martha will be remembered as being wildly artistic. She loved painting gourds, was a talented cartoonist, had an amazing ear for emerging musical talent, she enjoyed rescuing stray dogs, crafting and festive holiday decor, baking homemade bread and cookies, and spoiling her loved ones with love. She had a kind and spirited heart.

 

She is survived by her husband Greg; her three children, Shaundi Sauser (Jay Sauser), of Cincinnati, Maggie Spears (Kenny Means), of Somerset, and Ashley Falls, (Timo Stavrou-Wilson) of Los Angeles; her five grandchildren, Braeden Fisher, Dylan Hale, JJ Sauser, Morgan Hale, and Leo Wilson; her step-grandchildren McKinley Means and Sawyer Means; and her brother, Michael Wells, of Rocky Ford, Colorado. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Sue Vance.

 

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Brush Creek Christian Church.

LISA EVANS

Lisa Renee Evans, loving mother, wife, sister, and friend passed away on Friday October 1, 2021 at the age 56.  Lisa was born in Somerset, Kentucky on August 31, 1965.  She was a graduate of Pulaski County High School and Eastern Kentucky University and earned a Bachelor of Accounting degree.

 

In 1988, she joined Evans, Harville, Atwell and Company CPA’s and Advisors, and became a Certified Financial Planner and partner in the Firm.

 

She was an active member of the Somerset Rotary Club and board member of the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.  She served on various Professional, Church and Charity boards.  She was a passionate cyclist and traveled across the country for bike events with her husband Jack.

 

Lisa is survived by her husband Jack Evans of Somerset; her daughter Olivia Brown and son Matthew Brown; stepchildren David (and Katy) Evans, John (and Dulcey) Evans, and Matthew (and Grace) Evans; a brother, Jim (and Rani) Mullins; one granddaughter, Eleanor Evans; and many nieces and nephews. Lisa was preceded in death by her mother Jane Gibson Mullins, her father Lucian Mullins, and her brothers Mike Mullins and Rick Mullins.

 

Visitation will be Thursday October 7, 2021 at 11AM with funeral services to follow at 2PM at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill.

He is survived by two daughters, Robin Michele (and Ralph) Martin of Somerset and Ashley Megan (and Lucas) Poynter of Somerset; three sons, Aaron Dale Carson of IN, Robert Michael (and Mary) Carson of Somerset and Ricky Allen Carson of Somerset; two brothers, Jim Carson of Broken Arrow, OK and Boyd Carson of Greenwood, IN; two sisters, Virginia (and Carl) Bushes of Indianapolis, IN and Rita (and Greg) Harveth of Indianapolis, IN; twelve grandchildren, Brittany Carson, Jerehme Carson, Michael Carson, Kaitlyn Carson, Andrew Carson, Brook Meade, Amber Dick, Jakob Carson, Connor Carson, Adrea Poynter, Ansley Poynter and Julia Poynter; and four great grandchildren.

CAMDEN JOHNSON

Camden Michael Johnson, infant son of DaSean Johnson and Brittany Edmon passed from this life Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 

 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jayden Johnson; paternal grandfather, Jack Johnson.  

 

He is survived by his parents; paternal grandmother, Toshia Johnson; maternal grandparents, Billy and Susan Edmon; and brothers, De’Andre Johnson and Bentley Morgan.

RAYMOND STIGALL

Raymond “Cricket” W. Stigall, age 64, of Monticello, Kentucky passed from this life Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. 

Cricket was born February 6, 1957 to Worth Stigall and Emma Troxtell in Bronston, Kentucky.  

 

Cricket was preceded in death by his parents, Worth and Emma Troxtell and step-son, Tommy Taylor.  

 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Sharon Stigall; sons, Ray Pelk (Jerry Vaughn) of Somerset; Scott Spradlin (Monica) of Monticello; daughters, Jamie Stevens (Freddy) of Somerset; Misty Stigall of Monticello; Destiny Margison (Brett) of Gaoshen, IN; brothers, Ernest Stigall of Bronston; Darrell Stigall (Michelle) of Winfield; Jeff Colyer (Rita) of Somerset; Billy Stigall (Susan) of Somerset; Scotty Stigall (Lisa) of Somerset; Michael Stigall (Kim) of Somerset; sisters, Phyllis Turner of Bristol, VA; Bonnie Stigall-Hart (Jim) of Jonesboro,TN; Tammy Stigall of Bronston; Lisa Reynolds (Ronnie) of Somerset; Donna Morrow (Josh) of Clinton, TN; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; along with a host of friends and family.  

 

In accordance with Cricket’s wishes there will be no services at this time. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Raymond “Cricket” W. Stigall.
