CASEY MAN CITED AFTER NEARLY HITTING DEPUTY

 

A Liberty man was cited for reckless driving after a near miss with a patrol car.


The Casey County Sheriff's Office says 27 year old Joshua D. Hash, of 85 Creston Water Tower Rd., Liberty, was driving at a high rate of speed late Monday evening, about 4 miles West of Liberty on KY 49.


The citation states Mr. Hash lost control of his 2006 Chevy, skidding sideways and nearly struck the Deputy head-on. The Officer was forced off the roadway in order to avoid a collision.


Hash was charged with Reckless Driving, and Driving on a Suspended Operator's License-9th Offense.

SOMERSET WOMAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES FOLLOWING EXECUTION OF A SEARCH WARRANT

 

Sheriff Greg Speck reports that a Somerset woman was arrested following a search warrant at her residence. On Monday August 22, 2022 Narcotics Detectives were conducting surveillance on a suspected drug trafficker on Garnet Court in Pulaski County. During the course of the surveillance, Detectives developed enough probable cause to request a search warrant for the residence.


Detectives went to the Garnet Court address and executed a search warrant on the residence.
Once inside the residence, Detectives encountered Yvonne Nicole Roy, age 41, of Somerset.
Upon searching the residence, Detectives located two baggies of suspected methamphetamine on
the couch, where Roy was initially sitting, along with a handgun. Detectives also located digital
scales, glass pipes and, miscellaneous paraphernalia.

 

Detectives did a field test of the substances located which yielded a positive result for
methamphetamine. The total weight of the methamphetamine was approximately 125 grams.

 

Yvonne Nicole Roy was arrested and charged with the following:
1. Trafficking in Controlled Substances 1 st degree 1 st offense, (methamphetamine)
2. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
3. Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon

 

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Lake Cumberland Area
Drug Task Force and the FBI.

 

The case remains under investigation by Detective Tan Hudson and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s
Office Narcotics Division.

 

WHITLEY CITY MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES IN SOMERSET

 

Sheriff Greg Speck reports that on Tuesday August 9, 2022 Narcotics Detectives were
conducting surveillance on a suspected drug trafficker in Pulaski County. At approximately 4:45
PM, Narcotics Detectives observed the trafficker meet with a green Chevrolet Pickup truck, in
the parking lot of Somerset Mall.


Detectives approached the vehicle and began identified the passenger, Kevin Davis. While
speaking to Davis, Deputy Trent Massey and his K9 partner Leo arrived on scene to assist.
Deputy Massey conducted a walk around of the vehicle with Leo and afterwards advised
Detectives Leo had indicated the presence of illegal substances.


Detectives began to search the vehicle and located a glass smoking pipe and a baggie inside of
the vehicle. Inside of the baggie, Detectives located three individual baggies containing a clear
crystal substance. The total weight of all three baggies was approximately 64.7 grams.


Kevin Shawn Davis, Age 51, of Whitley City was arrested and charged with the following:
1. Trafficking in Controlled Substances 1st degree 1st offense, (methamphetamine)
2. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia


The case remains under investigation by Detective Lt. Daryl Kegley and the Pulaski County
Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division.

BOYLE COUNTY MAN ARRESTED AFTER CALL OF SHOTS FIRED IN JUNCTION CITY

 

Shots fired in Boyle County, one man was arrested last weekend.


Deputies responded to the call just after 12am Sunday, to a location on Ben Jean Drive in Junction City.


Upon arrival, investigators located multiple shell casings in the drive way, and a single bullet hole in the victim’s vehicle.


The suspect was later identified as 27 year old Logan James Douglas Dyer, of Junction City, who had fled the scene.


During the investigation it appeared all shots fired were into the ground and at the vehicle. The victim suffered no injuries and a warrant was filed for Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree.


On Monday, deputies located Dyer on Harberson Lane in Boyle County.


He was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Boyle County Jail.

  • Yvonne N Roy-Ryan, 41 of Somerset, arrested by Deputy Hudson with Pulaski Co SO for trafficking in meth over 2 grams 1st degree, drug paraphernalia, & possession of handgun by convicted felon.

  • Nicholas R Thomas, 36, arrested for obtaining controlled substance by fraudulent statement/forgery & possession of drug unspecified 1st degree.
  • Henry M Baker, 55, arrested for trafficking in heroin 2nd or greater offense, trafficking in carfentanil/fentanyl derivatives 2nd offense, trafficking in meth over 2 grams 1st degree, & wanton endangerment 1st degree.

CALL OF SUSPICIOUS PERSON LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

 

A Liberty man arrested on drug charges after a report of a suspicious person asleep in a car.


Deputy Shoenbachler, with Casey County Sheriff's Office, responded to the call shortly after 7:30pm Friday evening, about six miles east of Liberty, at 683 Singleton Drive.


The property owner stated he did not know the man and wanted him checked out.


Upon arrival, the Deputy made contact with 20 year old Raymond G. Duncan, of 1688 School House Rd., Liberty, who was asleep in the driver's seat of the vehicle. When asked why he was at the property, Mr. Duncan stated he didn't know how he got to there.


Dispatch advised he had an active parole warrant. He was also in possession of a clear glass pipe with meth residue.


Duncan was lodged in the Casey County Jail on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine-1st Degree/3rd or greater Offense. He was also served with the outstanding warrant.

MAN OPERATING ATV IN THE ROADWAY NOW FACING METH CHARGES

 

A Liberty man was arrested on drug charges Wednesday.


Casey County Sheriff Chad Weddle says he and Deputy Robin Lynn responded to the report of a disturbance just after Noon Wednesday about 10 miles south of Liberty on Contown Rd. While at the residence, Sheriff Weddle noticed a man riding an ATV in the roadway, and made contact with 33 year old William Salyers, of 1088 Rouse Branch Rd., Liberty.


Consent to search was given, resulting in the discovery of a pill bottle with Mr. Salyers name on it, found in his right front pants pocket. Inside the bottle was a baggie of suspected Methamphetamine, and a paper wrapped up with possible Heroin inside.


Salyers stated both drugs were Meth.


He was lodged in the Casey County Jail on charges of Possession of Methaphetamine-1st Degree/2nd Offense, & Possession of Controlled Substance-1st Degree (Unspecified).
 

CADILLAC NAP LEADS TO DUI CHARGES

 

A Dunnville man is facing DUI charges after being found passed out behind the wheel.


Deputy Jayson Grider, with Casey County Sheriff's Office, responded to the call shortly after 6pm Thursday, at the Crockett Trail General Store, about 7 miles west of Liberty on KY 70. There he found a 2000 Cadillac Seville sitting at the gas pump with the motor running. 35 year old Dustin W. Powell, of 765 Red Hill Rd., Dunnville, was passed out at the wheel.


Once Mr. Powell woke up, Deputy Grider noticed very slurred speech, heavy swaying, and unsteady on his feet.


He failed field sobriety tests and was transported to Casey County Hospital for a blood test.


Powell was charged with DUI-4th or greater Offense, & Driving on a DUI Suspended License.


He was lodged in the Casey County Jail.

 

2 ARRESTED AFTER ANONYMOUS TIP OF DRUG ACTIVITY

 

Officers with the Casey County Sheriff's Department conducted a "Knock & Talk" Wednesday morning, in reference to a tip of possible drug activity, and arrested two people.


Sheriff Chad Weddle, and Deputies Hanna Lynn and Robin Lynn, went to a location on Rubarts Road where they found 53 year old Gary Schubert, of Liberty, outside near a camper. He was placed under arrest for 3 active Casey County bench warrants.


Inside the camper, Officers made contact with Melissa Popplewell, age 41, also of Liberty. As she came down steps in the camper, a metal container fell to the floor, which was later found to contain a Meth Rock. Two Meth pipes were also located inside the camper.


Schubert was charged with No Insurance-2nd Offense, No Registration Plates, DUI-2nd Offense, Driving on Suspended Or Revoked Operating License, Theft of Services, & No Registration Plates.


Popplewell was also arrested on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine-1st Degree-2nd Offense, Possession Of Marijuana, & Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.


Both were lodged in the Casey County Jail.

 

LIBERTY MAN CHARGED WITH DUI FOLLOWING ACCIDENT

 

A Liberty man arrested on DUI charges following an accident with injuries Wednesday.


Deputy Hanna Lynn, with Casey County Sheriff's Office, responded to the scene shortly after Noon Wednesday, about a mile south of Liberty on Shugars Hill Rd.


Upon arrival, she spoke with the driver, 59 year old Gerald L. Weddle, of 2404 Shugars Hill Rd., who had constricted pupils and unsteady balance.  Mr. Weddle failed field sobriety tests and was transported to Casey County Hospital for a blood test.


He was lodged in the Casey County Jail on charges of DUI-controlled substance.


LPD Officer Hunter Christian assisted at the scene.

A Pulaski County motorcyclist is facing additional charges for allegedly assaulting a Somerset Police Officer during his arrest.

LIBERTY MAN RUNS NAKED FROM POLICE

 

A Liberty man was arrested Sunday after Police say he was running naked from Officers.

 

Deputy Jayson Grider, with Casey County Sheriff's Office, and Liberty Police Officer Hunter Christian, responded to the call around 11am Sunday morning, of reports of a man on Henson Ridge Road causing a disturbance and trying to grab cars.

 

Officers located the man on Shugar's Hill near the Poplar Springs intersection. When confronted, the suspect fled into a field owned by David Johnson. Ignoring commands to stop, he entered a wooded area. He later emerged, completely naked, onto Poplar Springs Road with a stick between his legs.

 

The man ran into a yard, still refusing to stop, and took the stick in his hand. He finally obeyed commands to get on the ground, but refused to lay face down and put his hands behind him.

Officers were finally able to take him into custody.

 

38 year old John D. Shoaf, of 4081 Contown Rd., Liberty, is charged with Public Intoxication (Controlled Substance), Fleeing/Evading Police-2nd Degree (on foot), Indecent Exposure-2nd Degree, Disorderly Conduct-2nd Degree, & Resisting Arrest.

 

He was lodged in the Casey County Jail.

 

CASEY COUNTY FISCAL COURT REPORT

 

Casey County Fiscal Court met in regular session Monday.


The Health Department presented their annual report and announced they had lowered their tax rate to 3.5 cents per $100 of assessed value for Real & Personal property.


Jan Banks presented the tax rate for the Library Board, which is down for the 3rd consecutive year, taking the compensating rate of 8.7 cents per $100.


Russ Clark presented a detailed report from Bluegrass 911, which is in the process of doing detailed mapping of large buildings in the area, including individual school rooms for the benefit of first responders.


The Court went into executive session for about 20 minutes to discuss possible realestate aquisition & litigation with no action taken.


Steve Fox was appointed to fill a vacant position on the Hospital Board for a three year term.


The Court also addressed Tax Rates. Soil Conservation was set at 2.4 cents per $100 assessed value. County real and personal property rates remained unchanged at 6.7 cents per $100. Motor vehicle rate, unchanged at 8.5, and Fire acres unchanged at .03 per acre.

DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR CITY STICKERS

 

Liberty City Council met in special session Monday.


First on the agenda was a resolution related to a Wastewater System Rehab Project. Mayor Steven Brown...

A group of citizens addressed the Council concerning a Dog Park in the City. The group was asked to gather additional information and revisit the Council later.


Another group of citizens convinced the Council to prolong the deadline for the new City Stickers. Mayor Brown...
 


The Council approved a first reading of an Ordinance related to 2022 Property Taxes. A motion was approved to take a 4% increase. There will have to be a public hearing before that is finalized.


The Council also declared a piece of real estate as Surplus Property so that it may be sold to the Casey County VFW, to be used for their new building location.

CASEY COUNTY EMS DONATING AMBULANCE TO LETCHER COUNTY

 

The Casey County Ambulance Service is pitching in to help out our neighbors in flood ravaged Eastern Kentucky.


The Ambulance Service was a drop-off point for donations and sent a load of donations earlier this week.


They also made a generous donation of a much-needed Ambulance unit to Letcher County.


Earlier this month, the Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office donated one of their Police Cruisers to Letcher County, who lost most of their vehicles in the severe flooding.


East Casey Volunteer Fire Department also donated one of their vehicle to Knott County.

BOYLE COUNTY MAN ACCUSED OF CHILD SEXPLOITATION

 

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Electronic Crime Branch located and arrested Michael D. Rhodus, 37, on charges related to a child sexual abuse material investigation.

 

Rhodus was interviewed and arrested as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation. The KSP Electronic Crime Branch began the investigation after discovering the suspect distributing sexually explicit images online.

 

The investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant on Pope Road, Danville, on August 10, 2022. Equipment used to facilitate the crime was seized and taken to KSP’s forensic laboratory for examination. The investigation is ongoing.

 

Rhodus is currently charged with 10 counts of distribution of matter portraying a minor under the age of 12 in a sexual performance, and 10 counts of possessing matter portraying a minor under the age of 12 in a sexual performance. These charges are Class-C felonies punishable by 5-10 years in prison. Rhodus was lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center.

 

The Kentucky Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force is comprised of more than twenty-six local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The mission of the ICAC Task Force, created by the United States Department of Justice and administered by the Kentucky State Police, is to assist state and local law enforcement agencies in developing a response to cyber enticement and child sexual abuse material investigations. This support encompasses forensic and investigative components, training and technical assistance, victim services, prevention and community education. The ICAC program was developed in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the internet, the proliferation of child sexual abuse material, and the heightened online activity of predators searching for unsupervised contact with underage victims.

PART OF KY 70 CLOSED IN CASEY COUNTY TODAY

 

The Kentucky Department of Highways will temporarily close part of KY 70 in Casey County today as crews replace a cross drain beneath the roadway.

 

On Wednesday, Aug. 10, KY 70 will be closed to through traffic between the intersection of KY 206 (mile point 9) and V. Goode Road (mile point 9.2). Work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. and will be complete approximately 3:30 p.m.

 

Motorists will detour via KY 206. The date and duration of work may be adjusted for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays. 

 

KSP ASKING FOR YOUR VOTE FOR "BEST LOOKING CRUISER" CONTEST

 

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is gearing up for a repeat win to be named ‘America’s Best-Looking Cruiser’ and asks Kentuckians to cast their vote in support of the agency. The American Association of State Troopers (AAST) host an annual calendar contest and encourages state police agencies across the nation to submit a photo entry that is unique and represents their state.

 

KSP has placed in the ‘Top 3’ in the past three years. The agency took top honors in 2021 with 77,944 total votes and earned the coveted calendar cover spot on the 2022 calendar. 

 

“KSP creates safer communities every single day,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “Voting for the KSP cruiser in AAST’s annual contest is a small but meaningful way for Kentuckians to show their appreciation for troopers around the state.”

 

This year KSP’s photo entry features a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, equipped with 20” tires and a 5.3 liter 4WD producing 355 horsepower and a ten-speed automatic transmission. The photo was snapped on Pisgah Pike County Road 1967 in Woodford County with a picturesque backdrop featuring horse country.

 

The winning photo will be featured on the cover and premiere in the January month of the AAST 2023 wall calendar.

 

“Kentucky is known as the bluegrass state and this photo showcases the timeless beauty our backroads offer,” KSP Public Affairs Commander Captain Paul Blanton said. “We are proud to serve Kentucky and we hope our citizens will cast their vote in support of KSP.”

PULASKI CO. WOMAN ARRESTED ON DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES WEDNESDAY

 

Somerset Police Officer Yeast initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration. During the course of the stop, a female passenger gave officers false information, using her sister’s social security number and date of birth. Officers were able to positively identify her as Amanda Florian.

 

She was placed under arrest for a warrant out of Anderson County and transported to the hospital for medical clearance due to an unrelated injury.

 

While in custody, it was discovered Florian had concealed narcotics on her person. Florian had approximately 1 ounce of methamphetamine, a baggie containing heroin, a baggie containing a white powdery substance, and another baggie containing marijuana.

 

In addition to the warrant, Florian was charged with:

  • Trafficking Meth-1st degree (over 2 gms)
  • Trafficking Heroin
  • Trafficking Unspecified Drug-1st degree (over 10 Dosage Units)
  • Possession controlled substance, 1st degree, 2nd offense
  • Trafficking Marijuana (less 8 OZ)
  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Theft of identity
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Giving officer false identifying information

 

PCSO K9 RECEIVES NEW PROTECTIVE VEST

 

Sheriff Greg Speck reports that Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office K9 Rocky has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Rocky’s vest was embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Gabo, Jonesboro, AR - EOW 1/16/20”.
 

Rocky, whose handler is Sergeant Branson Patterson, has been trained in narcotics detection as well as officer protection among other tasks. “We’re very thankful to Vested Interest for their donation which will help keep Rocky safe as he performs his daily law enforcement duties with Sgt. Patterson,” Sheriff Speck said. “In May of this year, we were told that we would be receiving the vest and we did receive it and now Rocky is wearing it,” Sheriff Speck said.

-Ryan L Caudill, 45 of Liberty, indicted on tampering with physical evidence.

 

-Tracy W Glass, 49 of Liberty, indicted on wanton endangerment 1st degree, persistent felony offender 1st, drug paraphernalia, & resisting arrest.

TEXAS OR BUST! ... BUSTED

 

A traffic stop Friday leads to drug charges for a Casey County woman.


Around 11:30am Friday morning, Sheriff Chad Weddle pulled over a 2010 Nissan Altima for doing 68 mph in a 55 zone, about three miles south of Liberty on US 127 at the junction of W KY 70.


The driver, 50 year old Lorraine Gayle Pritchett, of Ky 1547, Liberty, had slurred speach. When asked if there were any drugs in the vehicle, Ms. Pritchett stated that she had a bag of Marijuana in her bra. She then produced the bag.
 

Pritchett failed field sobriety tests.
 

A search resulted in the discovery of 3 baggies of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine, weighing between 20-25 grams, along with $735 in cash.
 

Pritchett denied selling the Meth, stating she was going on vacation to Texas, and was taking it with her.
 

She was lodged in the Casey County Jail on charges of Speeding (13mph over limit), DUI-2nd Offense, Possession of Marijuana, & Trafficking Methamphetamine-1st Degree (over 2 grams).
