Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston reports the arrest  of James Richard Goins age 35 at 408 Apple Lane in the Pleasant Hill Area of Russell County. 

Russell County Dispatch advised of a Domestic Situation involving a Female with a a 1 year old child in the residence. Female advised he was armed with a Gun and had Shot the gun inside the home, after further investigation a Bullet hole was found in the ceiling and a Handgun was later found. 

He was Charged with 2 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. T

he case will be presented to a Russell County Grand Jury where further charges are expected.

Deputy Corey Meyer and Deputy Jared Pierce are the Investigating officers and was assisted at the Scene by Sheriff Derek Polston and 2 units with the Ky State Police.

Under road business, the court approved a resolution giving Judge Executive Randy Dial authority to sign an anticipated Discretionary Agreement with the Ky Transportation Cabinet.

In closing, Judge Dial reaffirmed Trick or Treat hours in the County for Saturday, Oct. 30th from 4-8pm.

A woman is facing drug charges after Deputies respond to a call of stolen championship dogs.

Deputy Jayson Grider responded to the call around 1pm Wednesday, about eight & a half miles west of Liberty on Casey Creek Road, where he encountered 34 year old Krista Michelle Clements, of Possum Trot Rd., Liberty. Grider's report says Clements was irate and causing a disturbance. He says she would not comply with commands and appeared to be under the influence of Meth. She stated she was a Meth user.

Ms. Clements is charged with Public Intoxication-Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, & Disorderly Conduct-2nd Degree.

She was lodged in the Casey County Jail.

A Liberty man was arrested on drug charges Sunday evening.

Casey County Deputy Grider stopped a '95 Ford Van, about 12 miles west of Liberty on KY 70, for canceled registration. The driver, 51 year old James Keith Passmore, of Caney Fork, Liberty, stated he had no insurance on the vehicle. He also had two warrants for his arrest and was taken into custody. 

Upon arrival at the Casey County Jail, Deputy Grider noticed a crystal like substance in the floor of his cruiser. Mr. Passmore stated that he found some Methamphetamine in a cigarette pack and tried to throw it out the window of the cruiser, spilling some in the process.

He was charged with No Registration Plates, No Insurance, Possession of Methamphetamine-1st Degree/2nd Offense, Tampering with Physical Evidence, & Failure to Appear.

As he was being booked into the jail, Deputy Jailer Josh Underwood located a baggie of Marijuana, and a white plastic pill bottle containing Methamphetamine inside Mr. Passmore's anal cavity. He was additionally charged with Promoting Contraband-1st Degree, Possession of Marijuana, & Possession of Methamphetamine-1st Degree.

Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck reports that on October 18, 2021, Deputy Tan Hudson was conducting routine patrol when he discovered a vehicle operating suspiciously. Deputy Hudson was on a traffic stop when he observed a vehicle turn down West Frog Hollow Road. Deputy Hudson completed his traffic stop and went to West Frog Hollow Road and found the vehicle in a driveway, blacked out. Deputy Hudson parked in an area to observe the vehicle.

A short time later the vehicle left the residence. Deputy Hudson observed the vehicle commit a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. Deputy Hudson approached the vehicle and found the operator of the vehicle was Nancy Crout, age 39, of Nicholasville. Crout advised Deputy Hudson they stopped on West Frog Hollow Road to switch drivers, because the passenger, Joseph Wilson, age 52, of Louisville, did not have a valid driver’s license.

Crout gave consent for Deputy Hudson to search the vehicle. Deputy Hudson, along with Deputy Nathan Meadows, began searching the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, they located a baggie containing approximately 10 Xanax in the middle of the car. They located a stolen handgun Crout’s purse, along with suspected methamphetamine and Xanax.

Upon further search of the vehicle, Deputies located a Nike bag in the backseat. A search of the Nike bag revealed approximately 55 grams of suspected methamphetamine, approximately 10 grams of Fentanyl, 2 suspected Xanax, 11 suspected Gabapentin, baggies, and digital scales. Deputies located a bottle with approximately 30 Xanax. Deputies also located approximately $750.00 in cash.

The drugs will be submitted to the Kentucky State Police Crime Lab for identification.

Ms. Crout and Mr. Wilson were transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center where they remain lodged as of this press release.

Three men are facing charges in connection with a stolen tractor.

Casey Co. Sheriff Chad Weddle was able to recover a tractor on Oct. 4th that was reported stolen in September. 

26 year old William M. Wethington, of Liberty, and Joseph Ethan Chesser, 32, of Bethelridge, were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property over $1,000 but less than $10,000. 34 year old Otis Collins, was also charged.

Representatives from Duo County Broadband addressed the Court, including Bryce Bailey, and Attorney H.K. Cooper. Duo County is applying for a state grant for a $9 million project extending fiber optic service along 127 and Kentucky 70 to the county line. There was no action taken, however the fiscal court will meet in a special called session Friday morning at 10 o’clock at the Judicial Center to make a decision.

The court advertised for audit bids for the county for fiscal year 2021 and received two bids. The audit was awarded to Piercy-Gray, a firm out of Louisville, for $16,000.

Under Road Business, the court will advertise for bids for a drainage replacement project on Bastin Creek.

In Miscellaneous Business, the fiscal court set trick-or-treat hours in the county for Saturday, October 30th, from 4-8 PM.

A beloved Russell County public servant has passed away.

A social media post by the City of Russell Springs says City Fire Chief, and Russell County Emergency Managment Director, H.M. Bottom, passed away Saturday.

The post says Russell County lost a beloved father, brother, friend, and mentor. HM Bottom spent the better part of his life in service to our community. Whether fire, flood, or car accident, HM was there. 

The City of Russell Springs is grieving with the Bottom family. The Mayor, City Council, and City Staff, offer sympathy and love. 

Funeral Service will be held at Russell Springs First Baptist Church at 1pmCT on Wednesday.

Friends may visit 4-8pm Tuesday and after 8am Wednesday at the church. 

The Casey County Sheriff's Office is investigating a two vehicle fatal accident, which occurred around 1pm on Saturday, Oct. 2nd.

The accident happened on Chelf Ridge Road, KY 1552, about 7 miles north of Liberty.

Authorities tell us 69 year old Martha J. Allison, of Snake Ridge Rd., Liberty, died as a result of her injuries.

She was driving a 2003 Mazda 6 when she collided head-on with a 2010 Toyota Tundra, driven by 32 year old Daniel K. Tarter, of Chelf Ridge Rd., Liberty. 

Deputy Gregory Hopkins is investigating.

Lincoln Co. EMS also responded.

A Russell County traffic stop leads to drug charges.

Russell Springs Police Chief Tim Pierce says Officer Hayden Phillips conducted a traffic stop for speeding early Friday. Upon contact, the male driver seemed extremely nervous. K-9 Joli indicated a positive alert on the vehicle, which led to the discovery of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

44 year old Jesse M. Kane, is charged with Speeding 18 MPH over limit, Methamphetamine-1st Degree, & Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia.

Officer Phillips was assisted on scene by RSPD Sergeant Parrish, Deputy Pierce and KSP Trooper Begley. 

Mr. Kane was lodged in the Russell County Jail.

Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck reports that 44 year old  William Rogers was arrested around 3am Tuesday morning during a traffic stop by Deputy Tan Hudson and Trooper Adam Childress. 

The officers stopped a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Rogers, on US 27 in Somerset, at the Quality Inn. A search, located over 5 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, and nearly $2,400 dollars cash. 

Officers also searched Mr. Rogers hotel room and located an additional 115.8 grams of methamphetamine and items normally used in the sale and use of illegal drugs.

William Rogers lodged in the Pulaski County Jail on charges of  Trafficking Meth-1st Degree-over 2 grams, & Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

If your travel plans include U.S. 127 through Lincoln County, be sure to give yourself some extra travel time in the coming weeks….

A series of four bridge deck restoration and waterproofing projects are scheduled to begin next week on U.S. 127 in Lincoln County. 

Beginning Monday, Oct. 18, U.S. 127 will be reduced to one lane in Hustonville at mile point 3.4 (Hanging Fork) to mile point 3.5 (Baughman Branch) as crews begin work on the first two structures to be addressed.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place on the north and south bound approaches for the lane closure. In addition, temporary traffic signals will also be place on the east and west bound approaches on KY 78.

Two additional structures along U.S. 127 will also undergo bridge deck improvements. Currently crews are anticipating work to begin at mile point 8.4 (Harris Creek) the week of Nov. 1. The final structure at mile point 10.3 (Knob Lick) will begin late November.

Each structure is scheduled for completion within 30 days.

Lane widths on U.S. 127 will be reduced to 13 ft. until all structures have been completed.

KYTC asks motorists to be aware of the work zone, expect delays, and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the area.

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Electronic Crime Branch located and arrested William Brandon Combs, 27, on charges related to a child sexual abuse material investigation.

Combs was interviewed and arrested as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation. The KSP Electronic Crime Branch began the investigation after discovering the suspect communicating and exchanging sexually explicit images with juveniles online.

The investigation resulted in a search warrant at 134 Tateville Antioch Rd, Burnside, on October 5, 2021. Equipment used to facilitate the crime was seized and taken to KSP’s forensic laboratory for examination. The investigation is ongoing.

Combs is currently charged with one count of promoting a minor under the age of 16 in a sexual performance. This charge is a Class-B felony punishable by ten to twenty years in prison. Combs is also charged with five counts of possessing matter portraying a minor over the age of 12 in a sexual performance. This charge is a Class-D felony punishable by one to five years in prison. Combs was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.

The Kentucky Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force is comprised of more than twenty-six local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The mission of the ICAC Task Force, created by the United States Department of Justice and administrated by the Kentucky State Police, is to assist state and local law enforcement agencies in developing a response to cyber enticement and child sexual abuse material investigations. This support encompasses forensic and investigative components, training and technical assistance, victim services, prevention, and community education. The ICAC program was developed in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the internet, the proliferation of child sexual abuse material, and the heightened online activity of predators searching for unsupervised contact with underage victims.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is issuing an "Antler Alert" to remind motorists that it’s peak season for highway collisions involving deer and other wildlife on the move.

“Shorter days and cooler nights, October through December, bring a noticeable increase in highway collisions involving deer,” KYTC Secretary Jim Gray said. “Drivers should be vigilant at all times, but the autumn presents a special challenge for drivers, with deer and other wildlife increasingly on the move, often at night.”

Highway crash rates involving wildlife increase sharply in October, November and December with mating seasons, hunting seasons and fall harvests, which will prompt deer to roam in search of new hiding places and sources of food.

In Kentucky, 2,091 highway crashes involving deer were reported to police in 2020, according to a data base maintained by Kentucky State Police. Of that total, 70 occurred in Pulaski County, Casey (6), Adair (8), Boyle (7), Lincoln (7), Marion (19), Russell (14), & Taylor (41).

KYTC offers these driving tips to help improve safety:

• Slow down immediately upon spotting a deer crossing the roadway; they tend to travel in groups.
• Don’t swerve to avoid a deer, which can result in a more serious crash with an oncoming vehicle or roadside object.
• In the event of a crash, keep both hands on the wheel and apply brakes steadily until stopped.
• Always wear a seat belt.
• Keep headlights on bright unless other vehicles are approaching.
• Eliminate distractions while driving: Phones down!
• Drive defensively, constantly scanning the roadside, especially at dawn and dusk when deer are most active.

Motorists are asked to report all deer-vehicle collisions to police. KYTC traffic engineers use the crash data to aid in placing deer-crossing warning signs and other safety measures.

A Liberty man was arrested Sunday morning after callers reported a man walking in the roadway with a bottle and yelling at passers by.

Deputy Geoffery Brown, with Casey County Sheriff's Office, responded to Contown Road, about 7 miles south of Liberty, where he encountered 42 year old Ronnie Dale Lee, Jr.  Mr. Lee was staggering in the middle of the road, carrying a bottle of vodka. Deputy Brown noted Lee had slurred speech, and admitted he'd been drinking. He also had a glass meth pipe in his pocket. 

When the Deputy told Mr. Lee he was under arrest, he became outraged and started screaming and resisting arrest. Lee reportedly kicked Deputy Brown several times. Pepper spray was used to subdue the suspect. Lee asked to be transported to the Casey County Hospital, where he then refused treatment.

Lee was lodged in the Casey County Jail on charges of Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct-2nd Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, & Assault-3rd Degree (Police Officer).

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a joint undercover narcotic investigation has resulted in one of the biggest methamphetamine and heroin/fentanyl seizure in Wayne County history.

The joint operation was conducted by the Wayne County Sheriff Office and the Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force Agency. On September 29, 2021, Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force Director Wayne Conn and Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputies Derek Dennis and Jerry Coffey were observing for a vehicle coming to Hicks Grocery on East Kentucky 90 that was believed to be coming there to sell illegal narcotics.  This location was known to be where suspected drug dealers would meet to sell illegal narcotics. At 6:41 pm the suspected vehicle entered the parking lot, and a vehicle traffic stop was conducted. After the driver and his passenger exited the vehicle Deputy Derek Dennis deployed his Deputy K-9 Unit Dunya for a free air sniff around the vehicle. Deputy Dunya alerted on the driver’s door area. Deputies Dennis, Coffey and Director Conn then searched the vehicle. The search resulted in the seizure of a stolen loaded 40 caliber Glock handgun, 2 pounds and 9.58 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, 56 grams of suspected cocaine, 67 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl mix, 50.5 grams of suspected pressed fentanyl pills, 3 suspected hydrocodone tablets, 1 suspected suboxone tablet, several plastic baggies and a set of digital scales. Also seized was a 2020 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, 5 AK-47 magazines with 2 boxes of ammo, 3 cell phones, a safe and $905.00 in cash. The estimated street value of the seized items is $164,000.00.

Deputies Dennis, Coffey and Director Conn was assisted at the scene by Sheriff Catron and a United States DEA Agent (unnamed).

Deputy Dennis charged and arrested Troy Huff, age 38 of Somerset, Ky. for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property, trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine-(enhanced), trafficking in a controlled substance-1st offense (heroin)-(enhanced),trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 4 grams of cocaine)-(enhanced), aggravated trafficking in a controlled substance-(greater than or equal to 28 grams of fentanyl)-(enhanced), 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance-2nd degree (drug unspecified)-(enhanced) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Huff was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

The investigation is continuing by the Wayne County Sheriff Office, Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.
