CLINTON COUNTY MAN KILLED IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

 

KSP Trooper Billy Begley is investigating a single vehicle fatal collision that occurred on Thursday afternoon at approximately 5:47 PM CST, 10 miles north of Albany on U.S. 127. 

 

Jeffrey Price, age 76 of Albany was operating a northbound 2007 Suzuki motorcycle on U.S. 127 when he struck a tree that had fallen in the roadway during a recent storm.

 

Price was transported  by EMS to the Clinton County hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. 

 

Trooper Begley was assisted at the scene by Trooper Zach Scott, and Clinton County Sheriff Jeff Vincent.

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE LEADS TO DRUG ARREST IN SOMERSET

 

Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck reports that a Somerset woman was charged with drug possession after deputies answered a call of a domestic disturbance on Tuesday, June 25, 2019.

 

Deputy Brett Thomas responded to 1254 Lakeview Drive at approximately 5:50 pm Tuesday afternoon where he made contact with two individuals. A short investigation led to the discovery of a quantity of white powder believed to be cocaine (5.59 grams), electronic scales, a drug pipe and 9 grams of marijuana.

 

Deputy Thomas arrested Alyson G. Whitis, age 43 of Lakeview Drive, Somerset, Kentucky and lodged her in the Pulaski County Detention Center without incident.

 

The investigation continues by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office.

RUSSELL COUNTY MARIJUANA INVESTIGATION

 

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office executed a late night search warrant at a mobile home off J. Tucker Road in the Eli Community, resultin in the seizure of 13 marijuana plants found growing inside and outside the home, owned by William C. Wilson.

 

Sheriff Derek Polston says arrests are forthcoming. The investigation is continuing by Deputy Kenny Perkins with assistance by Deputies Dustin Bunch, John Wine, and Nathan Bradshaw.

LIBERTY CITY COUNCIL MET IN SPECIAL SESSION THURSDAY

 

The Liberty City Council held a Special called Meeting this afternoon at City Hall.


At the top of the agenda was a 2nd Reading of an Ordinance Approving a Mayor Pro Tem to preside over council meetings in the absence of Mayor Steven Brown. Councilman Richard Montgomery requested a discussion prior to voting...
 


Former City Councilman, Doug Johnson, suggested the council member who received the most votes should automatically be named to that position, instead of allowing the council to decide...
 


The Council voted to approve that Ordinance, naming Micah Meece as Mayor Pro-Tem. Meece was also the top vote getter among the council in the last election.


Another Ordinance scheduled for a 2nd Reading was aimed at approving a Franchise Agreement with Charter Communications, concerning Cable Fees in the City. That item was tabled for the next meeting to allow for further study.


Two other Ordinances were approved for 2nd Reading, one amending the 2018/19 Budget, the other adopting the 2019/20 Budget, both were approved.


The next regular sheduled meeting of the Liberty City Council will be July 8th.

The Casey County Sheriff's Office is asking for your help in locating 56-year-old Joe Goforth of 2507 Calvary Ridge Rd., Liberty, KY. Goforth is wanted for fleeing and evading, wanton endangerment, and also has an outstanding warrant. RUSSELL CO. MAN ARRESTED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO KIDNAP A MINOR

 

76-year-old Danny L. Malone of Jamestown, KY was arrested Wednesday and charged with Criminal Attempt to commit Kidnapping. The charges stem from an incident that was reported to Jamestown Police on June 12, 2019 in which Malone attempted to lure a 13-year-old female into his vehicle.

 

Malone was taken into custody by Jamestown Police Chief Jeff Kerns without incident and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center. Kerns was assisted by Russell Springs Police Officers Matt Parrish and Jeremy West.

 

GUN PLAY IN CASEY COUNTY

 

A Liberty man was arrested on weapons charges Wednesday.


Deputies with the Casey County Sheriff's Department responded around 1pm to the call of a man shooting a gun on Snake Ridge Road. The caller stated the man was on probation/parole and not supposed to have a gun.


Deputies Shephard, Pruner, Blevins, & Lynn made contact with 32 year old Darren Peterson, of 424 Snake Ridge Road. Peterson admitted he had been shooting the gun in the yard and granted permission for Deputies to go inside & retrieve the weapon, which had been reported stolen out of Bowling Green.


Peterson was charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, & Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm) and lodged in the Casey County Jail.

CASEY COUNTY FISCAL COURT REPORT

 

At last month's Fiscal Court meeting, Casey County Judge Executive, Randy Dial, announced that the County Coroner had informed him that he would no longer transport dead bodies. 


County Coroner, Curt Demrow, was at yesterday's Fiscal Court meeting...
 


The Court discussed a few options. The Coroner says he would transport bodies at a rate of $100 inside the county, and $200 for out of county. The Casey County Ambulance may have a spare ambulance that could possibly be used. 


Under General Business, Judge Executive Randy Dial gave a 2nd Reading of the Budget...
 


That Budget was approved.


Debra Vaughn was re-appointed as Treasurer for another 4 year term.


Melissa Richards was moved from Road Department to County Office Staff to fill a vacancy by Judy Allen, who is retiring.


Tyrone Smith was re-appointed to the Library Board for another 3 year term.


Under Road Business, a bid was accepted from Atwood Concrete to provide road tiles to the county.
 

The next regular meeting of the Casey County Fiscal Court is scheduled for July 1st.

 

LIBERTY CITY COUNCIL MEETING REPORT

 

The Liberty City Council met in special session yesterday.

Jelaine Harlow, a Health Educator with Casey County Health Department addressed the council with a report on the over-all health of Casey County. One subject she touched on was the problem of Juuling among our youth...

The Council heard a 1st reading of an Ordinance Relating to an Amendment to the City's Budget, including a 3% raise for city employees. Mayor Steven Brown...

The City will be aquiring two new Dodge Charger police cruisers, thanks to a special grant...

The Council voted to enter into a Franchise Agreement with Charter Communications for an added 5% income to the city...

The Council also considered a proposed land lease, adjoining Gateway Park, which would allow for future soccer fields.

 

There was a discussion on Garbage Bids from three different service providers. That will continue at next month's meeting.

 

The Council went into Executive Session to discuss Property & Personnel.

 

The next regular meeting of the Liberty City Council will be July 8th.

PULASKI WOMAN ARRESTED IN OHIO IN CONNECTION WITH BURGLARY/ARSON OF A NANCY, KY BUSINESS

 

According to Pulaski County Sheriff, Greg Speck, a Nancy woman was arrested in Ohio in connection to a burglary, theft and arson at Henderson Fuel in Nancy, Ky.


In the early morning hours of June 17, 2019, Deputies responded to a burglary and theft at Henderson Fuel in Nancy, KY. It was reported the perpetrator had taken a large quantity of money from the business before igniting material inside. The fire was contained and the property suffered minor damage.


Through investigation by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Kentucky State Police, a suspect was developed; Norma Jean Walker, age 56 of Pine Circle, Nancy, Kentucky. A warrant was obtained for Walker’s arrest and she was later apprehended in Winchester, Ohio.


Walker has been charged with the following criminal charges:

  • Burglary, 3 rd Degree
  • Theft by Unlawful Taking Over $10,000
  • Arson, 2 nd Degree

Walker will be awaiting extradition in the Brown County Jail in Ohio. Her bond is currently set at $75,000 Cash.


Agencies assisting in this investigation were the Kentucky State Police, Faubush Fire Department, Nancy Fire Department, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office (Ohio) and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office (Ohio).


This investigation is ongoing by Det. Joey Johnson and Det. Cody Cundiff of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.

2 KILLED & 1 SERIOUSLY INJURED IN PULASKI COUNTY CRASH

 

A child and Grandmother died, and another woman suffered serious injuries in an early morning crash in Pulaski County.

 

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department reports it happened around 6:30am Monday morning, June 17, 2019. Chief Mike Hill of the Burnside Police Department as well as Deputies of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call of an injury automobile accident in Burnside, Kentucky. Upon arrival at the scene in downtown Burnside, officers found two vehicles involved in
a head on collision.


Preliminary investigation by Chief Hill found that Deanna Jean Chaney, age 42 of
Eubank, Kentucky was southbound on Highway 27 in a silver 2007 Chrysler Van when
she was struck head on by a gray 2012 Kia SUV. The Kia, operated by Brandy C.
Montgomery, age 41 of Pine Knot, Kentucky was northbound on Highway 27 when it
apparently crossed into the southbound lane striking the Chrysler head on.

 

Brandy C. Montgomery was treated at the scene and was transported to LCRH by EMS
personnel. She was later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for
treatment of life-threatening injuries.

 

Deanna Jean Chaney was treated at the scene by EMS personnel and transported to
LCRH where she was pronounced deceased by Pulaski County Deputy Coroner Gerald
Collingsworth.

 

Mrs. Chaney's five year old granddaughter who was a passenger in the Chrysler van was
treated at the scene by EMS and transported to the University of Kentucky Medical
Center where she was later declared deceased by the Fayette County Coroner's Office.

 

Law enforcement units were assisted at the scene by the Burnside Fire Department, 
Tateville Fire Department and the Pulaski County Hazmat SRT Team.


The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Burnside Police Department
with the assistance of the Somerset Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team.

2 MOTORCYCLISTS KILLED IN PULASKI COUNTY CRASH FRIDAY

 

Two motorcyclists were killed in a crash Friday night in Pulaski County.


The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office says the mishap occurred around 7pm at the intersection of US 27 and KY 1247 in Eubank.
 

Deputies say an SUV crossed the road and hit the two motorcycles.
 

The driver of one of the bikes, 61 year old James Burton, died at the scene.
 

Three other bikers, a man and two women, were airlifted to UK Hospital, where 52 year old Michelle Cahill succumbed to her injuries.
 

The two other victims have been identified as Pamela Burton and Walter Hellmueller. Both were in critical condition.
 

The crash remains under investigation.
 

No charges have been filed.

 

LIBERTY CITY COUNCIL & CASEY FISCAL COURT MEET TODAY

 

The Casey County Fiscal Court will meet in regular session today at 5pm at the Judicial Center in Liberty.

 

The Liberty City Council meets in special session today at 5pm at City Hall.

On June 14, Sheriff Chad Weddle and Deputy Jayson Grider arrested William Brice Gibson, 41, and Billie Regina Tharp, 44, both of Danville. They were assisted by Deputies Eric Pruner and Robin Lynn.

Gibson was in possession of 85 grams of meth and is charged with:
-operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alc/drugs.etc 2nd offense
-operating on suspended or revoked operator license
-trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense (meth)
-trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense (cocaine)
-trafficking in a controlled substance 1st offense (heroin)
-drug paraphernalia
-trafficking in a controlled substance 2nd degree 1st offense (drug unspecified)

Tharp, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested on seven Boyle County bench warrants for failure to appear on charges of:
-contempt of court libel/slander resistance to order (13 counts)
-theft by deception including cold checks under $500
-shock probation in misdemeanor convictions
Two Jessamine County bench warrants for failure to appear on charges of:
-theft by deception including cold checks under $500 (2 counts)
probation violation for misdemeanor offense (3 counts)
One Mercer County bench warrant for non-payment of court costs, fees, or fines on a charge of contempt of court libel/slander resistance to order
And one Knox County bench warrant for non-payment of court costs, fees, or fines on a charge of theft by unlawful taking or disp shoplifting under $500.

RUSSELL CO BROTHERS INDICTED FOR BANK FRAUD

 

Two Russell County brothers have been indicted on federal bank fraud charges.

 

Adam Hill and Jeremy Hill were indicted by a federal grand jury in Bowling Green last Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

 

According to the indictment, in 2010 Jeremy Hill allegedly tried to obtain a loan for the consolidation of his debts, but was unable to due to having bad credit. 

Jeremy Hill then allegedly got a friend to obtain the loan and give him the money. That loan came though Adam Hill (Jeremy’s brother) who worked as a loan officer at the time. Due to non-payment, the loan eventually fell into default and Jeremy’s friend had to declare bankruptcy.

 

According to the Federal Bank FraudStatute, the maximum penalty a defendant can receive is 30 years and a 1 million dollar fine, with average sentence being 3 to 7 years depending on the specifics of the specific of the case.

 

Any indictment is an accusation only. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

AT LEAST ONE PERSON KILLED IN A FIERY CRASH IN TAYLOR COUNTY THURSDAY

 

A fiery crash involving a semi truck and two SUVs claimed the life of at least one person yesterday on KY-55.
 

Taylor County Dispatch confirms the mishap occurred around 4pm on the Columbia Road, near Infac.
 

A picture posted on-line shows an Amazon Prime truck involved in the crash and what looks like a Jeep up in flames.
 

Hwy 55 was closed for a while as emergency crews worked the crash site.
 

No other information has been made available.
 

The crash is under investigation.

 

PULASKI COUNTY WOMAN INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE ROLL-OVER ACCIDENT

 

Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck reports that Deputies responded to a 911 call of an injury
accident on Monday, June 10, 2019.


Deputy Zach Mayfield arrived on the scene of a single vehicle rollover accident at
approximately 6:15 pm, five miles west on Highway 635.


Carol A. Cox, age 58, of Science Hill was operating a 1998 Gold Saturn
westbound on Highway 635 when she observed an oncoming vehicle over the
center line. When she veered to the right to avoid a possible collision, she lost
control and travelled into the ditch. The Saturn rolled on to its top and skidded for
some distance.


Mrs. Cox was treated at the scene by Pulaski EMS personnel and transported to
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment of head and arm injuries
sustained in the accident.


Deputy Mayfield was assisted at the scene by volunteers of the Science Hill Fire
Department.


The accident remains under investigation by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office.

CASEY COUNTY DUI ARREST

 

A Liberty man was arrested for Driving Under the Influence after doing donuts in a field.

 

Deputy Brown, with Casey County Sheriff's Office responded, around 1:30am Wednesday morning, to the 911 dispatch reporting a vehicle spinning around in a field on Poplar Springs Road. Upon arrival, he found the driver, 24 year old Joshua D. Hash, of 85 Creston Water Tower Road, standing next to his vehicle in the field. Hash told the Deputy, he'd lost control, & ran off the road.

 

Hash was charged with DUI & lodged in the Casey County Jail.

 

DUNNVILLE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SEX CRIMES AGAINST A CHILD

 

On Tuesday, Joshua David Gayde, 36, of Dunnville, KY appeared in Adair Circuit Court and entered a guilty plea to 9 charges involving sex crimes against a minor child. 4 counts of First-Degree Rape, and 5 counts of First-Degree Sexual Abuse involving a child under 12 years old. 


Commonwealth’s Attorney Brian Wright is recommending that Gayde serve 23 years and 6 months in prison. The investigation was led by Kentucky State Police Detective Nick Davis.


Gayde will be designated as a “violent offender” under Kentucky law, meaning that he will be required to serve over 19 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. Additionally, upon his release from prison Gayde will be required to register as a sex offender. 


Final sentencing is scheduled for August 27th.

DANVILLE CITY MANAGER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

 

Danville City Manager Ron Scott announced at Monday night’s city commission meeting, he plans to retire at the end of the year. 


Scott says he made the announcement more than six months in advance in order to facilitate a smooth transition.


He was first hired by Danville on an interim basis in 2011, his appointment was made permanent in 2012.

 

KSP: RUSSELL COUNTY TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

 

A routine traffic stop leads to a drug arrest in Russell County.

 

KSP Trooper Jacob Harper was on patrol Monday afternoon in Russell Springs, when he pulled over a 2002 Mercury for a traffic violation on KY 430. A search the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a pill grinder and prescription medications. 

 

48 year old Edythe Long, of Somerset, is charged with No Insurance, No Operator's License, DUI 2nd Offense, Possession of Controlled Substance 2nd degree (drug unspecified), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

 

Long was lodged in the Russell County Jail.

LIBERTY CITY COUNCIL MEETING POSTPONED

 

The Liberty City Council was prepared to meet yesterday, however, due to unforseen circumstances, Mayor Steven Brown was unable to attend.


After about 45 minutes, the Council decided to postpone the meeting until next Monday, the 17th at 5pm.

On Sunday night, June 9, 2019 at 11:00pmCT, the Russell county Sheriffs Dept. (along with the Adair Co. Sheriff's Dept. canine) executed a search warrant on Desert Storm Road in Russell County. As a result, 2 people were arrested on drug charges:

 

  • Jason L. Cooper, 46, of 47 Desert Storm Rd., was charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine 1st degree (10 grams or more)
  • Jimmy L. George, 49, of 47 Desert Storm Rd., was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine 1st degree and Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd & 3rd degree

A Marion County man arrested Thursday after he was found passed out under a tree.


Casey County Sheriff's Deputy Jayson Grider responded to the call on South KY 837 where he found 28 year old David Tucker, of Lebanon. 


Tucker was charged with public intoxication - controlled substance. Tucker was also arrested on a Marion County warrant for failure to pay court costs, fees, or fines on a charge of burglary 3rd degree.


He was lodged in the Casey County Jail.

BOYLE COUNTY HOME INVASION ARREST

 

A Boyle County man was arrested Wednesday in connection to a home invasion case, but he was originally taken into custody for unrelated traffic offenses.

 

23 year old D'Montrell Trumbo, of Danville, allegedly entered a residence on Fox Harbor Drive in the early morning hours Wednesday. Police say he was armed with a semi-automatic handgun demanding money.

 

Trumbo left the scene with cash, but Danville Police were able to determine he was the suspect shortly thereafter.

 

He was scheduled to appear in court yesterday for various traffic violations, and officers were waiting when he appeared at the Boyle County Courthouse. He is charged with first-degree robbery.

KSP POST 15 MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT

 

During the month of May 2019, there were 20 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

 

There was two fatal collision during the month of May in the Post 15 area.

This brings our yearly fatality count to 6 compared with 14 through this same period in 2018.

Statewide fatality count stands at 268 compared with 266 through this same period in 2018.

 

During the month of May 2019, there were 1203 citations written, 344 courtesy notices written, 1660 vehicles inspected, 607 complaints answered, 84 motorists assisted, 41 criminal cases opened and 280 criminal arrests made.

 

KSP POST 15 TO CONDUCT TRAFFIC SAFETY CHECKPOINTS

 

Kentucky State Police, Post 15 will be conducting safety traffic checkpoints in the Post 15 area, which includes Washington, Marion, Taylor, Green, Casey, Russell, Adair, Metcalfe, Monroe, Clinton and Cumberland.

 

Troopers will be checking for impaired drivers, children that are not properly restrained in child safety seats and informing the public about the use of seatbelts.

 

These safety checkpoints will be conducted in various locations throughout the Post 15 area that are experiencing a high ratio of vehicular crashes resulting in injury and/or death compared to relatively low safety restraint usage ratio.

KY 78 IN CASEY COUNTY REDUCED TO ONE LANE BEGINNING MONDAY, JUNE 10TH, TEMPORARY TRAFFIC SIGNALS IN PLACE

 

Beginning Monday, June 10 KY 78 in Casey County will be reduced to one lane between mile point 8 and mile point 9 (KY 906) as crews perform pavement repairs.

 

Temporary traffic signals will be in place on the east and west approaches for the lane closure.

 

The lane closure is expected to be in place for four weeks. The duration of work may be adjusted for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to allow extra time in reaching their destination.

INJURY ACCIDENT LEADS TO DUI ARREST

 

A Casey County man was arrested on DUI charges following a single vehicle accident with injuries.


Casey County Sheriff Chad Weddle responded to the call around 8:30am Sunday morning on Poplar Springs Road. He reports 45 year old Scotty J. Watson, of Liberty, was injured in that accident. The citation states Watson had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, was very unstable on his feet, had slurred speach, and blood shot eyes. Watson was uncooperative, but admitted to drinking 5 beers. He was transported to Casey County Hospital by Casey County EMS for treatment, where he refused a blood test.


Watson was charged with DUI and cited to appear in court.

 

CASEY COUNTY FISCAL COURT REPORT

 

At yesterday's meeting of the Casey County Fiscal Court, Judge Executive, Randy Dial announced to the magistrates that County Coroner, Kurt Demrow, has informed him that he will no longer transport deceased bodies. Judged Dial thanked the Casey County Ambulance Service for handling this unexpected situation on Friday...

Following a lengthy discussion, Judge Dial said he will continue to try & find a solution to the problem.

 

In other business, a member of the Casey County Ambulance Board was re-appointed to another term. The term of Jan Bassett had expired. The court voted unanimously to re-appoint her to another two year term to expire in June of 2021.
