INVESTIGATION INTO UNDER AGE TOBACCO SALES IN CASEY COUNTY

Casey County authorities are cracking down on under age youth tobacco sales.

The Casey County Sheriff’s Office tells us Vasantkumar Patel, an employee of Sallie’s Country Store, was cited for sales of tobacco products to a person under the age of 18.

Sheriff Chad Weddle says his Office is involved in an on-going joint investigation, along with Liberty Police, and Alcohol Beverage Control Officers.

LIBERTY CITY COUNCIL MEETING REPORT

The Liberty City Council met in regular session Monday.

At the top of the agenda was the city’s 3 Fire/Weather Alert sirens. The current sirens are Civil Defense sirens from the 50’s/60’s, and are becoming increasingly difficult to maintain due to the old wiring.

The Council opted to research the cost of switching to a radio control for each siren in the city.

The Council took time to hear from 3 members of our local 4H. Addie Davis, McKayla Hamilton, and Jaylynn Hamilton each gave a 3 minute speech on curing a country ham, in practice for competition at the Kentucky State Fair.

The Council approved a 2nd Reading of a Franchise Agreement with Charter Communications, pending an amendment to renewal notification from 3 years to 1 year.

Representatives from Rumke Santitation addressed the Council concerning their bid for garbage collection in the city.

Rumke had the highest bid to buy back the new garbage truck, just recently acquired by the city. Rumke’s is $250,000, which combined with the cost of the new garbage cans, would represent a loss of around $130,000 to the city. That cost would be off-set over time by cutting the cost of garbage can rentals. The issue was tabled for further analysis.

A proposed Inter-Local Agreement may provide a means to more collaboration between the City, County, and the Casey County Sheriff’s Department…

The motion was approved for the a 6 month trial project.

Also, Councilman, Larry Bowmer requested a Monthly Activity Report from the Liberty City Police Department.

The next regular meeting of the Liberty City Council is scheduled for Monday, August 12th.

2 TRAPPED DOGS WERE RESCUED IN CASEY COUNTY

Members of the Liberty-Casey County Rescue Squad received a call for assistance from pet owners of 2 missing Jack Russell dogs, Sassy and Rex. After arriving on scene late in the evening of July 4th, it was apparent that the dogs had chased a raccoon under a rock bluff and deep into a crevice off of Bryant Ridge Rd.  After discussions with the pet owners, the Buckners, who had been trying to self rescue for nearly 4 hours, the decision was made to suspend efforts until day light the next morning. Units gathered back on scene with more man power and appropriate tools. With in 2 hours a successful rescue was achieved for both Sassy and Rex! Both dogs had been missing for a total of approximately 40 hours. They are now safe and sound with their loving owners Aaron, Amanda and Sarah.
