WCSO: BIGGEST DRUG BUST IN WAYNE CO. HISTORY

 

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a joint undercover narcotic investigation has resulted in one of the biggest methamphetamine and heroin/fentanyl seizure in Wayne County history.

 

The joint operation was conducted by the Wayne County Sheriff Office and the Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force Agency. On September 29, 2021, Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force Director Wayne Conn and Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputies Derek Dennis and Jerry Coffey were observing for a vehicle coming to Hicks Grocery on East Kentucky 90 that was believed to be coming there to sell illegal narcotics.  This location was known to be where suspected drug dealers would meet to sell illegal narcotics. At 6:41 pm the suspected vehicle entered the parking lot, and a vehicle traffic stop was conducted. After the driver and his passenger exited the vehicle Deputy Derek Dennis deployed his Deputy K-9 Unit Dunya for a free air sniff around the vehicle. Deputy Dunya alerted on the driver’s door area. Deputies Dennis, Coffey and Director Conn then searched the vehicle. The search resulted in the seizure of a stolen loaded 40 caliber Glock handgun, 2 pounds and 9.58 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, 56 grams of suspected cocaine, 67 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl mix, 50.5 grams of suspected pressed fentanyl pills, 3 suspected hydrocodone tablets, 1 suspected suboxone tablet, several plastic baggies and a set of digital scales. Also seized was a 2020 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, 5 AK-47 magazines with 2 boxes of ammo, 3 cell phones, a safe and $905.00 in cash. The estimated street value of the seized items is $164,000.00.

 

THE OWNERS OF HICKS GROCERY OR THEIR EMPLOYEES ARE NOT ASSOCATIED WITH THIS OR ANY OTHER ILLEGAL ACTIVITES.

 

Deputies Dennis, Coffey and Director Conn was assisted at the scene by Sheriff Catron and a United States DEA Agent (unnamed).

 

Deputy Dennis charged and arrested Troy Huff, age 38 of Somerset, Ky. for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property, trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine-(enhanced), trafficking in a controlled substance-1st offense (heroin)-(enhanced),trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 4 grams of cocaine)-(enhanced), aggravated trafficking in a controlled substance-(greater than or equal to 28 grams of fentanyl)-(enhanced), 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance-2nd degree (drug unspecified)-(enhanced) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Huff was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

 

The investigation is continuing by the Wayne County Sheriff Office, Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.
