Leona Marie Akin, 73, of Columbia, KY passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 4, 1952 in Breeding, KY, a daughter of the late Lawrence Lamar Murphy and Artie Marie (Pelston) Furkins.
Leona dedicated her life to her family, community, and passions. She was a faithful attendee of 3trees Church and held a valued membership in the Adair County Cattlemen's Association, reflecting her deep connection to both her faith and her rural roots. Leona was known for her love of reading, farming, and attending festivals.

Her siblings: Charlotte Faye York (Bobby) of Russell Springs, KY, Tammy Helm (Darrell), Rhonda Burton, Pat Furkins, and Dale Furkins, all of Columbia, KY
Special friends: Marlene Cowan, Ramona Dial, and Barbra Burton
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings: Della Mae Mandosi, Michael Furkins, Carletta George and Mary Ann Murphy; and her goddaughter, Angela Cowan Smith.

Burial: Haven Hill Cemetery
Visitation: Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 4:00pm-8:00pmCT and Monday morning until time for the service
