Gene Monday, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Casey County Hospital. He was 82.
Born on December 17, 1942, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Callis and Lorene Luttrell Monday. Gene was a jack of all trades, having worked as a mechanic, farmer, and a cabinet maker, as well. He loved animals, boating on the lake, going to yard sales and peddlers’ malls, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Gene also enjoyed playing Johnny Cash songs on his guitar and loved to trade on any and everything.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Peavey of Liberty; daughters, Sharon (Mike) Stahl of Lexington, Melissa Monday West of Lexington, Karen Monday Allen of Liberty, and Ronetta (Robin) Elliott of Liberty; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, Amanda (David) Chumbley of Liberty, Lydia Simmons of Liberty, Charles David (Donna) Lewis of Parksville, and Linda (James) Scott of Danville. Other survivors include a brother, Roger (Teresa) Monday of Liberty; and a sister, Judy (John) McQueary of Liberty.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Monday and Charles Monday; and a great-granddaughter, Neveah Alsman.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
Burial will follow in Whited Cemetery.
