Mark Anthony Cravens, of San Antonio, TX, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in Texas. He was 59.
Born July 16, 1965, in Pulaski County, KY, he was the son of Harold Cravens and the late Mildred Mae Wilson Cravens. Mark was a 1983 graduate of Casey County High School. Four years later, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of serving in the Army by commissioning upon graduation from Western Kentucky University. He served for 22 years and 23 days and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
During his military career he was deployed to South Korea, Panama and Iraq (twice). He was awarded many awards and commendations for his service, including the Bronze Star. After his retirement, he continued to work for the Army as an Operations Specialist for IMCOM at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio.
Mark is survived by his father, Harold Cravens of Casey County; three children, Mark (and Asia) Cravens, Jr., Allison Cravens, and Matthew Cravens; and a sister, Patricia (and Charles) Nunmaker; as well as many other family members. He will be sorely missed by many additional friends and co-workers.
A memorial service will be held in San Antonio, TX on November 25, 2024. Memorial services and military honors will be held in Kentucky. More details will be available soon.
