BARBARA TRUE

 

Barbara Ann Reid True, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024, at her home. She was 85.

 

Born on December 24, 1938, in Liberty, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Reid and Flora Clements Reid. On July 26, 1958, she married her husband, the late Curtis D. True, who passed away December 6, 2011. Barbara grew up in Liberty and was a graduate of Liberty High School. She then studied at Eastern Kentucky University. She worked for Selective Service and was a Client Service Representative for Farm Bureau. She was a member, deacon, and former secretary of First Christian Church of Liberty, a Kentucky Colonel, and a 50+ year Order of the Eastern Star member. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, quilting, working in her flowers, and spending time with family. Barbara was a very kind and loving mother, nanny, and friend.

 

She is survived by a son, Gary (Mindy) True of Harrodsburg; daughter, Audrey (Scott) Rousey of Hustonville; sister, Virginia (George) Kendrick of Lexington; brother, Clarence (Julie) Reid of McKinney; and two grandchildren, Courtney (Buddy) Hasty of Nicholasville and Connor True (Bailee Heisler) of Lexington. Other survivors include an aunt, Aleena Sutherland; nieces, Andrea (John) Mesplay of Danville, Karen (Tom) Lucas of Westchester, OH, DaVida (Ron) Gyr of Frankfort, Amber (Jason) Hoskins of Stanford, and Heather (Dan) Johnson of Frankfort; nephew, Zachary (Shelby) Reid of Campbellsville; great-nephews, Harrison Mesplay, Jackson Mesplay, Jared Lucas, Seth Gyr, and Tanner Gyr; special cousin, Janice Murphy; and a special friend, Rosie Buis.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her sisters, Clarice (Ray) Williams and Gilda Reid; and her sister-in-law, Gay (Charlie) Steinhauer.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at First Christian Church of Liberty with Bro. Bob Brooks and Bro. Bob Mallory officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, February 12, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home and from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 13, at First Christian Church of Liberty. 

 

Pallbearers will be John Mesplay, Harrison Mesplay, Jared Lucas, Buddy Hasty, Connor True, and Scott Rousey.

 

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Hospice of Lake Cumberland at 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, 42503, The American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741, or the Alzheimer’s Association at P.O. Box 96011Washington, DC 20090-601.
