BETTY LOU FRYE

 

Betty Lou Frye, age 88, passed away peacefully into Heaven's gates, surrounded by her 3 children, at the Hospice Unit of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital on January 23, 2024, after a sudden decline in her health. 

 

Betty Lou was born on January 19, 1936, to Earl and Kathleen (Schoolcraft) in Faubush, KY and they preceded her in death. She married Winfred C. Frye on July 7, 1953, having shared 57 years of marriage until his passing on September 10, 2010. 

 

Betty Lou was the loving and caring mother of 3 children: Lana Perkins of Somerset, KY; Randy (Wanda) Frye of Science Hill, KY; and Donna Frye of Somerset, KY. 

 

She was a loving and doting grandmother and great-grandmother to her only grandchild, Kyle (Tara) Perkins, and to her only great-grandchild, Lucy Marie Perkins, all of Mt. Washington, KY. 

 

Also surviving are her step-grandchildren: Sammie (Marlana) Dick of Cave City, KY and Shelly (Jeff) Souders of Science Hill; her step-great grandchildren: Samantha (Patrick) Gides of Cave City, KY; Amanda Connors of Cookeville, TN; and Savannah Dick of Cave City, KY; and step-great-great grandchildren: Chase Connors and Isla Gides. 

 

Betty Lou was the only sister to her 3 surviving brothers: Arlin (Oreda) Harris of Richmond, KY; Larry (Zella) Harris of Ingle, KY; and Richard (Nancy) Harris of Albany, Georgia. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive. 

 

She was a homemaker during the early years while raising her children. In later years, she worked at Roses Department Store, a Head Start aide, a teacher's aide, and a school bus monitor at Nancy Elementary School for several years. Betty Lou was also an AVON sales representative for 48 ½ years, winning several awards and recognitions for her years of service. 

 

She was a resident at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab for almost 10 years where she enjoyed playing Bingo, doing arts and crafts, and faithfully watching UK basketball games. She loved to socialize with the residents and staff and became known as "Betts" and "Betty Boop". 

 

Betty was a Christian and attended Calvary Separate Baptist Church in Nancy when her health permitted. 

 

Visitation for Betty Lou Frye will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

 

Her funeral service will follow with her brother, Dr. Richard Harris and Bro. Mark Polston officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Smith Grove Cemetery at Faubush, KY. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gideons International or to the Smith Grove Cemetery Fund. 

 

The family sincerely thanks the Staff and the Therapy Department at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab for their loving kindness, support, and friendship in the care of our mother for the past 10 years of her life. 

 

The family also gives sincere thanks to the Jean Waddle Hospice Staff for their compassionate care of our mother during her short stay.
