MARGARET LATHAM

 

Margaret Elizabeth (Hansford) Latham, age 91, died on January 21, 2024 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital. Margaret was born March 12, 1932 in Mark, KY. She was the youngest daughter of the late John Arnold and Alma (Whitson) Hansford.

 

Margaret was a homemaker, farmer and additionally held several public jobs including Jack n Jill Department Store, Watson’s Department Store, Peeble’s Department Store, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services Protection and the Somerset Tourism Commission. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she served faithfully as the pianist for 73 years. She was a volunteer at God’s Community Food Pantry located on HWY 461. Margaret’s main interests were her beloved family, her church family, her music, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and preserving food and the farm she helped her husband build.

 

Margaret married James Lowell (Stick) Latham on May 26, 1950. They resided in the Plato community of Pulaski County until their deaths.

 

Margaret is survived by two daughters, Marcia (and Gene) Barrier and Cathy (and Allen) Stringer; one son, James R. Latham, and Daughter-in-law Jennifer Tucker Latham all of Somerset; four grandchildren, Eric (Paula) Barrier (Utrecht The Netherlands), Corey (and Carol) Stringer of Lexington, Clayton Stringer, of Somerset, and Elisabeth Latham of Atlanta Georgia, brother-in-law Danny O (Patricia) Latham of Centerville OH, Sister-in-law Marilyn Norton Carter of Scottsburg In, Sister-in-law Sue Carolyn Latham Ferrell of New Albany In, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Along with her parents Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, sister Winnifred B. Vaught, sister Verda H. Ping, brothers-in-law L.L. Ping, Harold Latham, Melvin Vaught, James Norton, Bud Carter, sister-in-law Martha Hooker Latham and Nephew John Ping.

 

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to either God’s Community Food Pantry (Care of Jennifer Smith Tucker) or the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery Fund (Care of Sue Bullock).

 

We would also like to express our deepest appreciation to Drs. David Bullock, Bernie Williams, Mary Joenborg, Angela Isaacs and Registered Nurse Joyce Sailor for the excellent and loving care you administered in Mother’s final days.

 

Visitation will be on Friday January 26, from 10:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

 

Her funeral service will follow on Friday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Randy McPheron and Bro. Charles (Chuck) Godbey officiating.

 

Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Corey Stringer, Clayton Stringer, Joseph Wimsatt, James Norton, Gregory Waters, Steven Ferrell, Mike Atha and Barry Latham.  Honorary pallbearers are Roger Smith, Charles Lee Latham, Jim Vaught, Billy Vaught, Dale Vaught, Keith Miller, Don Latham, Brent Latham and Albert Whitson.

 

Lake Cumberland Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements for Margaret Latham.
