Tommy Joe Valdez, of Liberty, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Baptist Health of Lexington. He was 74.

Born March 29, 1949, in Ft. Worth, Texas, Tommy was the son of the late Joe and Mary Valdez. Tommy was a decorated Unites States Marine veteran and earned a Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam war. Tommy also received several medals during his 10-year career as a Los Angeles police officer. Tommy was a former claims adjustor for the city of Albuquerque. He also enjoyed running marathons and is remembered as a “jack of all trades.”

Tommy is survived by his son, Jonathan Valdez; his daughters, Tana Bailey, Megan Cash, and Sadie Coffman; and 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jason, Brian, Zachary, and Hannah.  

In addition to his parents, Tommy is preceded in death by his brother and sister.

A graveside service will be held Friday, January 5, 2024, at 1:30 P.M. at Mill Springs National Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.
