OBITS

William Floyd Hansford was born April 16, 1929, in the Lanhamtown area of Casey County to Virgil Dowell and Sallie Ellis Hansford.

He grew up on the family farm at Walnut Hill until his family moved into Liberty. He attended the Liberty schools and graduated from Stanford High School.

Bill attended and played basketball for Campbellsville College. He graduated from Eastern State College with teaching and principalship certifications.

He taught school and coached basketball in various Boyle County schools before moving to Piqua, Ohio where he became principal of Spring St Elementary School. He continued coaching years of boys on how to play the game.

Education was always very important to Bill. He continued his graduate education at Miami University of Ohio where he earned Masters and Specialists degrees in Educational Administration.

“Mr. Hansford” is still warmly remembered by many of his former students and basketball boys. He has been referred to as a scholar, a great basketball player, and a true gentleman.

Bill began learning to fly in his twenties. And that would become a lifelong interest. He became a flight instructor and taught many to fly at the Junction City Airport.

Bill and family returned to Danville, Kentucky in 1969, where he taught in the Danville schools. After that he and his wife bought Tarter Feed Mill in Liberty. His last career was working for the State of Kentucky Social Services.

His interests and activities have included CB radios, ham radios, singing in barbershop chorus, service to his community, Kentucky politics, and University of Kentucky Wildcats. He was a longtime member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #28, having just received his 70-year pin.
