OBITS

FREDERICK GRANAI

Frederick C. Granai of Burkesville, Kentucky began the next stage of his adventure surrounded by loved ones at his home on Feb. 20, 2022.

Fred was born in Uniondale, Long Island, New York on November 21, 1933, the son of Joseph C and Evelyn (Harms) Granai. He is survived by his loving wife, Terri Granai, Beloved Son, Tate Del bello (Jessi Gunther),  Grandchildren, Tinley Del Bello, Tucker Del bello and Alleeah Shelly.  Daughters Janice Granai of Kenessaw, Georgia and Nancy Granai-Sisk of Austin Texas.   Special Brother Richard Granai of Suffern, New York and Gary Granai of Poland, and many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas Granai and Joseph Granai.

After serving in the United States Army in Alaska, Fred embarked on a long and successful 36 year career at IBM, retiring in 1991 with many awards and accolades.  He was constantly involved in charity work including Trooper Island Camp at Dale Hollow Lake, KY and Camp Ta Kum Ta in Vt.  Fred was an active member of the Uniondale Volunteer  Fire Department Company #4 in NY for a number of years as well as involved in several local fire departments after moving to KY.

His legend extends to Vermont where he is a family record holder as the only Granai to ever catch a 40 inch Northern Pike out of Lake Champlain (still questioned by his  regular Vermont fishing cousins,  Matt Granai and Ed Corrigan).

Fred was an avid fisherman and water-skier,  skiing  on everything, including frying pans and boat paddles and his bare feet.  He taught numerous kids to water ski and scuba dive over the years and enjoyed every minute doing so.  Fred will certainly be missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Camp Hesitate on the shore of Lake Champlain in Vermont, his ashes to be laid to rest, approximately, where the deep begins.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to the Vermont's Camp Ta-Kum-Ta  P.O. Box 459, South Hero, VT  05486-0459
