OBITS

ELIZABETH GOSSER

Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Gosser was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.   She left this world on Saturday, February 5th, 2022 at the age of 93 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.  She was born on September 23rd, 1928 in Newellton, Louisiana to the late James Mitchell Taylor and Lottie Taylor Orwin.  She was united in marriage to Gene Gosser on November 6th, 1953.

Betty was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.

She graduated from Charity Nursing Hospital in New Orleans with the class valedictorian pen. An honor rarely received and recipient chosen by the Charity Hospital Nuns.  After graduation she went on to become a neurosurgical nurse in New Orleans.

Betty returned home to Somerset continuing her nursing career as an assistant to Dr. Holtzclaw and as a private duty nurse.  Shortly after she met her forever husband Gene Gosser of 63 years.  She followed her husband’s dreams taking her to California where her first child, Rick, was born.  From California they made their way back to Somerset in 1954 to pioneer the development of Highway 27.  A legacy still growing today.  The Gosser Real Estate Company followed shortly after in 1964.  Gene and Betty worked side-by-side as a perfect entrepreneurial pair completing one another in life and business.

Betty loved the outdoors spending time hunting and camping with her family.  She enjoyed making art arrangements from treasures found on her nature walks.  Her artistic ability didn’t end with her hands, she had a way with written words and poetry serving all of us for many years with her uplifting, thoughtful, and witty prose.

Betty is survived by her son, Rick Gosser (Connie) of Somerset; daughter, Margie Jane Gosser of Charlotte; grandchildren, Mitchell Eugene Gosser (Tara) and Amy Gosser Riddle (Chase) and great grandchildren, Lane Monroe Riddle, Lottie Rose Riddle, Olivia Renee Gosser, James Mitchell Gosser, nephew Mark Laird (Bonnie), great-niece Lacey Laird, and great-nephew David Laird (Niki).

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Marjorie Daniel Laird.

Visitation for Betty Gosser will be held on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022 at Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory.  Visitation beginning at 11:00 am with service at 1:00 pm followed by burial at Somerset Cemetery.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank The Neighborhood Assisted Living for the wonderful care given to Betty in her last year.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that expression of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 160 VFW Dr., Somerset, KY 42501.
