OBITS

JEWELL MCALPIN

Jewell Vivian Tucker McAlpin, age 99, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at The Neighborhood.

Jewell was born on February 4, 1922 in Somerset, KY to the late Chester Tucker and Olive Garner Tucker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Somerset.  She was a faithful servant, preparing the Lord’s Supper bread for 50 years, Sunday school teacher for Fifth grade girls, hosting numerous ministries and their families for Sunday dinners.

She was the ultimate hostess.  She entertained often.  She enjoyed hosting coffees or teas for friends, her classmates, class reunions and numerous family events.  Jewell was also a caregiver.  She often prepared her delicious chocolate cakes and delivered them to those in need.

She was known for wearing her signature hats.  She rarely attended church without wearing one.   She was one of the most honest, straight forward women that you would ever know.

She is survived by her children, Bill (and Paulette) McAlpin of Midway, Ann (and Ken) Cusic of Somerset and Bob (and Gayla) McAlpin of Somerset; her grandchildren, Michelle (and Barry) Lee, Christa (and Josh) Marilla, Ashley McAlpin (and Joel), Whitney (and Jon) White, John (and Ali) Mize, Julie (and Drew) Nichols, Tucker (and Hannah) McAlpin, Kennedy (and Aaron) Hall, Noah McAlpin, Jaxson McAlpin and Simi McAlpin; her great grandchildren, Ashton Lee, Aiden Lee, Addie Lee, Lincoln Marilla, Winston Marilla, Lily Wilcutt, Emory Wilcutt, Piper Nichols, Lennon McAlpin and Cedar Hall; a special caregiver, Carolyn Simpson; the staff at The Neighborhood; and other family members and friends who will mourn her passing.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Earl” McAlpin, whom she married on June 13, 1942 in Somerset and he preceded her on March 29, 1990.

Due to COVID, her funeral service will be private for the family on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of Somerset with Bob McAlpin officiating.  Burial will follow at Somerset Cemetery.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to First Baptist Church of Somerset.
