ANN HANEY

Ann Riese Brand Haney, age 71, of Nancy, KY, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital after a short illness.

Ann was born on November 5, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Roscoe Conklin Brand, Jr. and Mary Jane Riese Brand.  She attended the University of Kentucky where she was a 1971 graduate and met her husband, Don Haney.   She was a supporter of her sorority, Pi Beta Phi.  Ann was the past president of the UK National Alumni Association and served a six-year term on the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees.  Ann taught five years as a public school teacher in the Pulaski County School System at Nancy High School before she became a full-time mother.  She worked in adult education, which evolved into 29 years with the Pulaski County Public Library as the community relations specialist before her retirement in 2015.  Ann was the past president of the Pulaski County Dolly Parton Imagination Library, where she helped raise funds to ensure local children receive high-quality, age-appropriate books delivered to their homes absolutely free.  She was also a board member of the Mill Springs National Battlefield Association in her home town of Nancy, where she was involved in the preservation of the historic site and helping usher the battlefield into the National Park System.  In 2020, Ann was named Business Woman of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce.  Ann and Don were co-owner of Haney’s Appledale Farm in Nancy, KY.    Ann was a passionate and loyal person, and she relished her role as wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She loved her family and community and leaves many to mourn her passing.

She is survived by her loving husband, Don Haney, whom she married on May 22, 1971 in Dayton, Ohio; her children, John Richard Haney of Somerset, Michael Riese Haney of Somerset and Meghan (and Brian) Wells of Lexington; one brother, Richard Riese (and Victoria) Brand of Canton, GA; three grandchildren, Katherine Grace Wells of Lexington, Brian Parker Wells of Lexington and Allyson Hobbs of Somerset; two nieces, Hannah Claire Brand of Columbus, OH and Kara Keith of Myrtle Beach, SC; and numerous other family members and friends.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Lawrence (and Oreida) Haney.
