BRO. JOHN CUMMINS, 88 OF MIDDLEBURG

 

Bro. John Paul Cummins, of Middleburg, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center. He was 88.

 

Born on February 25, 1932, in Oswego, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Martin and Rosa Cummins. Bro. John graduated from Clear Creek Baptist Church in May 1961. While he preached at many churches, mostly in Lincoln and Casey counties, he spent most of his years pastoring Middleburg Baptist Church. He was the pastor there from 1967 to 1997. When he retired from the pastorate, he did not retire from the ministry. He served as interim for five churches, preached at several revivals, and filled in for other preachers.

 

Bro. John is survived by his wife, Mary Lois Lawson Cummins of Middleburg; a daughter, Trish Cummins Nall of Elizabethtown; two sons, Jerome (and Brenda) Cummins of Kings Mountain and Robert (and Donna) Cummins of Hustonville; and six grandchildren, Jessica (and Cea) Carpenter of Lexington, Jenna Nall of Frankfort, Kenton (and Abby) Nall of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Weston Nall of Elizabethtown, Justin Cummins of Hustonville, and Allison Cummins of Hustonville. Other survivors include two great-grandchildren, Victoria Carpenter of Lexington and Gabriella Nall of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters; four brothers; two half-sisters; and a half-brother.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Middleburg Baptist Church with Bro. Vincent Carman officiating. Burial will follow in Middleburg Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home and from 9:30 A.M. until time for services on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Middleburg Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Kenton Nall, Weston Nall, Justin Cummins, Cea Carpenter, Curtis Lucas, and Kenneth Lucas.
