Emergency personnel in Somerset say a child was hospitalized Friday night after being struck in the head by a wheel at the Pulaski County Fair.

According to Somerset-Pulaski County EMS, the incident occurred when a wheel reportedly detached from a ride and hit the child. He was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington with non-life-threatening injuries.

Due to the child’s young age, medical staff said he would remain hospitalized for further evaluation.

An investigation into how the wheel came loose and struck the child is ongoing.
