LIBERTY MAN FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES AFTER RECKLESS DRIVING REPORTS

A Liberty man was arrested Tuesday evening after multiple reports of erratic driving in Casey County.

Deputy Jacob Atwood responded to the call around 7:30 p.m. after Officer Adam Hewett was notified of a reckless driver headed toward city limits but was tied up with an accident. Atwood spotted a 2008 Chevy Silverado stopped on US 127 at KY 70, blocking traffic. When the deputy approached, the driver pulled away. Atwood activated emergency lights and pursued the truck, which was swerving and driving down the center of the road before stopping just before College Street.

With assistance from Deputy Austin Harris, Atwood made contact with the driver, identified as 37-year-old Brandon L. Burton of Liberty. Burton refused to provide a driver’s license or vehicle documents and appeared dazed. When asked to step out, he refused and reached toward his pocket. Atwood physically removed him from the vehicle, and Harris placed him under arrest. Though Burton admitted to carrying a weapon, none was found.

Burton showed signs of impairment, but refused field sobriety tests. A search warrant for a blood sample was obtained, and Burton was transported to Casey County Jail.

A witness who followed Burton from KY 70 near Doe Creek Road reported he ran off the road, narrowly missed several vehicles, and nearly struck up to 10 others. A video provided by the witness showed Burton driving head-on toward traffic near Lanhamtown, forcing two vehicles off the road.

Burton faces multiple charges including Obstructing a Highway, Fleeing/Evading Police-1st Degree, Resisting Arrest, Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree, DUI, & Reckless Driving in a Work Zone.
