LIBERTY MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT

On Tuesday, Casey County Deputy Jake Atwood was dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on Ky 1547, where the situation quickly escalated.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Dakota J. Smithers of Liberty, was reportedly making threats with a firearm and had left the scene.

He was later located at his mother's residence on Neff Rd. The citation states Smithers was visibly intoxicated and admitted to driving drunk.

Despite refusing medical treatment initially, he was later taken to the hospital for clearance before being booked into Casey County Jail.

Smithers now faces charges including DUI-2nd Offense with aggravating circumstances, and leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid/assistance.
