On October 15, 2023 Deputy Jacob Atwood, with Casey County Sheriff's Office, initiated a traffic stop on a silver pickup truck due to the registration being expired, the vehicle was operated by 45 year old Kyle Maddox, of KY-551, Liberty, KY.
Upon contact with Maddox The Deputy advised him of the reason for the stop and ask for his documentation and a form of identification for the passenger Merry Sandor. Deputy Atwood returned to his cruiser to run the documentation and then went back to speak with Maddox. There was an additional passenger in the back seat, Steven Bradford.
Consent to search the vehicle was granted. Atwood asked the occupants to exit the vehicle and step to the front of their vehicle and I began frisking Maddox for weapons.
While frisking Maddox the Deputy observed Sandor digging in the coin pocket of her pants and appeared to be pushing something down into the pocket. When asked what she was doing, she said she was fixing her pocket, when she was frisked for weapons Atwood felt a small hard lump that he believed to be narcotics. She then pulled a crystal like substance from her pocket and handed it to Atwood. Sandor advised that she had a glass pipe inside of her purse. The Deputy advised her to step back to his vehicle where he asked if she had anything else and she reached into her waistline and pulled out a brown napkin, containing two separate plastic bags that contained a crystal like substance.
Sandor was placed under arrest and transported to the Casey County Jail.
Officer Austin Harris assisted.
