PCSO: ACCIDENT LEADS TO DUI CHARGES FOR STEARNS, KY WOMAN

Pulaski County Sheriff Bobby Jones reports an injury accident that led to S. Hwy 27 being temporarily shut down and the arrest of a Stearns, KY, woman.

At approximately 9:45 PM on Thursday, September 21, 2023, units with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 14000 block of S. Hwy 27 regarding a motor vehicle collision with injury.

Once on scene, SGT Alex Wesley discovered a 2009 Ford Escape being operated by Leona Lyons, 52 years of age, of Stearns, KY, was traveling northbound when it crossed into the oncoming southbound lane and made contact with a 2002 Toyota Tundra pulling a trailer being operated by Daron Neal, 36 years of age, of Stearns, KY. Due to the large amount of debris on the roadway from the collision, S. Hwy 27 was temporarily shut down until the Kentucky State Highway Department could safely clear potential hazards.

Neal was transported from the scene by Somerset/Pulaski County EMS to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital to be treated for injuries. During the investigation of the accident, it was determined Lyons was an impaired driver at the time of the collision. Lyons was transported from the scene to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by Dep. Dylan West for evidence collection purposes before being lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.

Lyons was initially charged by Dep. West with Wanton Endangerment 1 st Degree, Operating Motor Vehicle Under Influence Controlled Substance 4 th Offense or Greater (Aggravated Circumstances), Driving DUI Suspended License 2 nd Offense (Aggravated Circumstances) and Failure to Produce Insurance Card for the offenses at the time of the collision investigation. After lodging Lyons in the Pulaski County Detention Center, Lyons was discovered to be in possession of what is believed to be methamphetamine. Lyons was further charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1 st Degree, 1 st Offense (Methamphetamine), and Promoting Contraband 1 st Degree.

The collision investigation is ongoing by SGT Alex Wesley while Dep Dylan West conducts the criminal investigation.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene of the collision by the Somerset/Pulaski County EMS, the Tateville Volunteer Fire Department, the Pulaski County Rescue Squad SRT, the Kentucky State Highway Department and the Burnside Police Department.
