The Liberty City Council held a public hearing yesterday prior to their regular meeting for public discussion concerning a proposed 4% increase in the property tax rate. There were a few in attendance and no action was taken.
The public hearing was followed by the Council's regular meeting.
The Council advertised for bids to repair the water systems "mother tank" located on Dry Ridge. Jay Hoffman addressed the council to answer any questions and gave details of the work to be performed, which will include a new mixing system to improve water quality and liner.
The bid of $113,850 was unanimously approved.
The council held a second reading of an ordinance related to the City's property tax rate, with an increase of 4%. That second reading was approved by a vote of 4 to 3, with Mayor Steven Brown breaking the tie.
The Council also held a first reading of an ordinance to allow Mayor Brown to sign an agreement accepting funds from the opioid settlement. There will have to be a second reading which will be held during a special meeting on Wednesday at 5 o’clock at Liberty City Hall.
Councilman Richard Montgomery addressed the council, suggesting a 5% increase for City employees. There was no official motion made, and no action was taken at this meeting.
