A Casey County man was arrested Friday after threatening Fire Fighters who were trying to put out a grass fire on his property.

Casey County Sheriff Chad Weddle responded to the call shortly before Noon Friday, of a disturbance on Neff Road, about 14 miles north of Liberty. Dispatch advised the Fire Department was on the scene, where 45 year old Jody K Padgett, of 787 Neff Rd., Liberty, had set the fire on his property and it was getting close to structures on neighboring property. 

Padgett was not allowing Fire Fighters to extinguish the grass fire, and was threatening them and throwing metal objects at them and their vehicle.

Upon arrival, Sheriff Weddle noted Padgett was yelling in a public place and ordered him to turn around and put his hands behind his back, he was under arrest. Mr. Padgett said he wasn't going to jail and took off running. Sheriff Weddle deployed his taser, which was ineffective. 

During the foot pursuit, Padgett stopped and charged Sheriff Weddle and Liberty Police Officer Christian with a metal object. The Officers were assisted by several Fire Units in taking Padgett to the ground and placing him in custody.
 

Padgett was in possession of a bag of Methamphetamine at the time.
 

He was lodged in the Casey County Jail on charges of Public Intoxication-Controlled Substance, Assault-3rd Degree (Police Officer), Assault-3rd Degree (EMS/Fire/Rescue), Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree (Police Officer), Disorderly Conduct-2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Methamphetamine-1st Degree-2nd Offense, Menacing, & Fleeing/Evading Police-2nd Degree (on foot).
