According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Wayne County man has been indicted by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky Southeastern Division at London.

On February 24, 2022, evidence was presented in the United State District Court on Cody Upchurch of Monticello, Ky. by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration with an indictment being returned and an arrest warrant being issued. This indictment came after several months of undercover investigations by the Wayne County Sheriff Office, the Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Attorney Office. 

On March 1, 2022, Sheriff Catron, Deputies Derek Dennis, Allen Cash, Cody Neal, Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force Director Wayne Conn and Monticello Police Department Lieutenant Josh Asberry took Upchurch into custody at his residence on Bell Street. Deputy Derek Dennis served and arrested Upchurch on the Federal Arrest Warrant for the charges of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of a methamphetamine mixture, possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a felon. At the time of Upchurch’s arrest, he was found to have 31.5 grams of methamphetamine on his person. Deputy Dennis then transported Upchurch to a Federal Detention Center in London, Ky. Upchurch was then interviewed by the U. S. Attorneys Office and the Drug Administration.

On March 3, 2022, Upchurch will be arraigned in front of a United States District Court Magistrate on the above charges.

The investigation is continuing by all involved agencies with more indictments and arrest expected.
