Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck reports that on January 4, 2022, at 10:40 PM, Deputy Noah Wesley and Deputy Tan Hudson were going west on West Highway 80 when they observed a Saturn car traveling east at a high rate of speed. The Deputies turned around on the car which was maintaining a high rate of speed and driving recklessly.

A check of the license plates showed that the plates on this car belonged to another car.

A traffic stop was attempted but the driver refused to stop the car continuing to flee on West Highway 80. The driver attempted to make a left turn before Hacker Road but failed to do so causing him to lose control and wreck, disabling the vehicle.

The driver of the Saturn, then fled from the car on foot while Deputies gave chase. The Deputies were able to catch him and after a brief struggle with the suspect, he was placed under arrest.

The driver stated he ran because he knew he had warrants on him.

After the arrest, the Deputies located 10.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine, baggies and $133.00 in cash.

The driver of the car was identified as William M. Burk, age 22, of Culver Lane in Stearns, KY. He was charged with the following charges:

Charge #1 - Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense over 2 grams methamphetamine

Charge #2 - Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess

Charge #3 – Fleeing or Evading Police, 2nd Degree (Motor Vehicle)

Charge #4 – Fleeing or Evading Police, 2nd Degree (Foot)

Charge #5 – Reckless Driving

Charge #6 – Resisting Arrest

Charge #7 – Improper Display of Registration Plates

Charge #8 – Failure of Non-Owner Operator to Maintain Required Insurance, 1st Offense

Charge #9 – No Registration Plates.

Mr. Burk also had warrants on him for Contempt of Court where he had unpaid fines and court cost for previous drug related charges in Casey County. There was also a Probation Violation Warrant for Mr. Burk on those same drug related charges.

Mr. Burk was transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center where he remains lodged as of this press release.

The illegal drugs will be submitted to the Kentucky State Police Crime Lab for identification.

Deputy Noah Wesley and Deputy Tan Hudson are continuing the investigation. They were assisted by Deputy Ryan Jones and Lieutenant Richard Smith, as well as officers with the Somerset Police Department.
