Numerous families displaced & 1 woman killed early Saturday morning when a tornado moved through neighboring Taylor County.

Taylor County Emergency Management Director Ronnie Dooley states that the tornado touched down in NorthWestern Taylor County & proceeded to move across the Northern part of Taylor county. Areas affected included Quisenberry Road, Sanders Road, Feather Creek Road, Pleasant Hill Church Road, Kindness Road, & Finley Ridge Road before moving into Marion County.

70 families were displaced as their homes were heavily damaged or completely destroyed. There were several families who were rescued from their homes, several individuals who received injuries & 1 woman was killed.

Dooley states a Tornado Warning was issued by the NWS approximately 30 minutes prior to the tornado striking the area. He also states the CODERed alert system, proved effective & valuable in saving lives during the issuance of the tornado warning.

A damage survey was completed Sunday by NWS Louisville & it was confirmed the tornado was ruled as an E-F3 with 140 mph winds. The findings also states the tornado was at least 1/4 mile wide (wider in some areas) as it travelled 5 miles within Taylor County before moving into Marion County. NWS will be conducting additional surveys in Green & Marion counties later this week.

Dooley goes on to say he wants to applaud the community for the way everyone came together in unison to help support and help during this devastating time.

Taylor County Judge Executive Barry Smith stated Sunday that a State of Emergency has been declared for Taylor County.

A huge thank you goes out to ALL agencies & individuals who responded before, during, & after the storm.
