A call of a vehicle sitting in the roadway leads to the arrest of two people on drug charges.
Casey County Sheriff Chad Weddle responded to the call shortly after 4am Monday morning, about six miles east of Liberty on Doe Creek Road.
30 year old Lauren B. Montgomery, of Lancaster, was in the driver's seat of a 2021 Buick Encore. She stated she'd ran out of gas. Sheriff Weddle noted she had slurred speech. Ms. Montgomery failed field sobriety tests. When asked to put her hands behind her back, she tried to run back to her vehicle. She was arrested on charges of DUI-Controlled Substance, and Resisting Arrest.
A passenger in the vehicle, Russell Brummett, 27, also of Lancaster, also had slurred speech, and had 4 empty syringes in his pocket. He stated he'd been using heroin. Mr. Brummett was charged with Public Intoxication-Controlled Substance.
