CRASH SENDS CASEY MAN TO JAIL, DAUGHTER TO HOSPITAL

A single vehicle crash Thursday sent a local girl to the hospital and her dad to jail.

Deputy Geoffery Brown, with Casey County Sheriff's Office, responded to a 911 call of a vehicle all over the road on KY 49, around 8:30pm Thursday. The caller later reported the vehicle had crashed about a mile north of Liberty.

The juvenile was transported to Casey County Hospital, then later transferred to UK Hospital in Lexington for treatment.

The driver, 63 year old Wayne E Pemberton, of Strong Branch Rd., Liberty, refused transport.

Deputy Brown says Mr. Pemberton had slurred speech and was staggering while walking. He reportedly had to lean against a vehicle to keep from falling down, did not realize he had been in an accident, and was falling asleep while talking.

After failing field sobriety tests, Pemberton was placed under arrest and taken to the Casey Co. Hospital to be medically cleared.

While at the hospital, the Deputy learned that the junvenile stated her father had picked her up from a friends house and the two were not wearing seat belts because she was trying to keep him awake while driving.

After getting checked out, Mr. Pemberton was lodged in the Casey County Jail on charges of DUI, Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree, & Failure to Wear Seat Belts.
