On Monday, Casey County Sheriff Chad Weddle responded to a call of an individual found in the bed of a truck on Hopewell Spur Road, naked, twitching, and talking out of his head.
Sheriff Weddle assisted in the transport of Austin B. Smither, 25, of Liberty, to the Casey County hospital for treatment. While in the ambulance, Smither assaulted two EMS workers, and another after entering the hospital.
Smither is charged with 3 counts of assault 3rd degree (ems, fire, rescue squad).
Smither admitted to taking LSD, heroin, and meth and was not arrested due to hospital treatment.
