Sheriff Greg Speck reports that on March 18, 2021 at around 9:30 PM, units were dispatched to
Faubush-Norfleet Road in Nancy, KY. The caller, Ronald Baker, told 911 dispatchers his son,
Samuel Baker (22yoa) had shot Robert Claunch (62yoa) at the Baker’s home. Mr. Claunch was
later pronounced deceased at the scene and transported by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office.

Through the investigation, it was discovered Ronald Baker had tried to make Samuel Baker, his
son, leave the residence shortly after Samuel arrived. Ronald left the room and went into his
bedroom, hoping Samuel would then leave the residence. Ronald told investigators that Robert
Claunch had told Samuel to leave the residence as his father had asked, then shortly thereafter
Ronald said he heard gunshots coming from the area Robert and Samuel were. When Ronald
came back into the kitchen, he found Robert on the floor. Ronald then called 911 to report the
incident and to get medical attention for Robert. Samuel left from the scene in a vehicle that
could only be described as being loud.

A warrant was obtained for Samuel for the murder of Robert Claunch, and a search for him
began. Samuel Baker was located in Casey County by the Casey County Sheriff’s Office. A
Deputy with the Casey County Sheriff’s Office had got into a pursuit of the vehicle driven by
Samuel. The vehicle was abandoned, and Samuel fled on foot armed with a handgun with the
Casey County Deputy in foot pursuit. The Casey County Deputy was able to arrest Samuel after
chasing him about 300 yards into the woods. The handgun was located in the vicinity of the
arrest. Samuel was transported to the Casey County Detention Center.

Samuel Baker was charged with the following:
? Murder
? Fleeing and Evading, 2 nd Degree – Motor Vehicle
? Fleeing and Evading, 2 nd Degree – On Foot
? Reckless Driving
? Possession of Marijuana
? Suspended License
? No Insurance
? Resisting Arrest.

Mr. Baker has been lodged in the Casey County Detention Center.

On the Pulaski County District Court warrant for murder, Samuel is being held on a $125,000
cash or property bond.

Detectives were assisted at the scene by the Detective Eric Moore with the Kentucky State Police
and other troopers, the Faubush Fire Department and Somerset/Pulaski County EMS.

The murder investigation is ongoing by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office Criminal
Investigation Division and the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office.
