CASEY COUNTY FISCAL COURT REPORT

The Casey County Fiscal Court met in regular session yesterday.

Sandy Simpson, a representative from James Comer‘s office, addressed the court. Simpson met with several local business owners and first responders Monday concerning the recent flooding in the area. She said Representative Comer extended his sympathy to the residents and businesses in Casey County, and that he was eager to be of assistance.

Under general business, the magistrates voted to accept pre-audit excess fees from the Clerk's office and Casey County Sheriff’s Office.

Also under general business, Anita Sellers was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Casey county library board due to a resignation. Her term will expire in August 2022.

Under Road business Casey County Judge Executive Randy Dial stated that he had declared a state of emergency due to the recent flooding, and that he will be applying for FEMA funds for disaster relief. He said there had been extensive flood damage at the Ag Center & Gateway Park, as well as several area roads and businesses.

Under jail business, Judge Dial, and Jailer Tommy Miller, have been discussing changes to medical services at the jail. Mr. Miller estimates proposed changes could potentially result in savings of about $150,000 annually, while keeping current doctors and nurses on staff.

There was a lengthy discussion concerning recent garbage buildup along county roadways due to an increase in public littering, and the fact that there are no inmates available, as well as jail staff to supervise roadside cleanup. With current Covid restrictions, it is unclear when that will be able to resume.

Under miscellaneous business, Judge Dial says there are positions available at the Central Kentucky Ag Expo Center. They are looking to hire, however they've had very few applications submitted.

The next regular meeting of the Casey County Fiscal Court will be Monday, March 15th.
