A Waynesburg man is in custody following a shooting Sunday that sent another man to the hospital.
The Casey County Sheriff's Office received a call just after 12am Sunday from the Casey County Hospital of a male subject coming to the ER with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Deputy Brown made contact with the victim, Zackary Montgomery, who stated that 18 year old Antonio R. Mina had shot him during an argument at a residence on South Fishing Creek Rd.
A witness, Mr. William Gilpin, brought Montgomery to the hospital. He told investigators that Mina was still at the residence where the assault occurred. Officers went to the garage where Mr. Ras Cornett stated he didn't see the shooting, but heard the men arguing and the gun shot. Mina was found hiding behind a pickup truck in the garage. He told Deputy Brown that he was looking for a tool and woke Mr. Montgomery, who had fallen asleep in a chair. Mina claims this angered Montgomery, who came at him aggresively. Mina said his hand was already in his pocket to keep warm, which was also where his gun was located, and it discharged, striking Montgomery.
Mina would not advise for sure what he had done with the firearm.
A Taurus 9mm was seized from Mr. Cornett to determine if it was used in the shooting.
Mina was lodged in the Casey County Jail on charges of Assault-1st Degree.
KSP Trooper Zach Scott, and LPD Officer Terry Zimmerman assisted.
