Danville Police say a Lexington man broke into Centre College, where they found him armed with a baseball bat.
Officers responded just after 6:30am Saturday to the Centre College Athletics building at 250 Beatty Ave. for a male subject armed with a bat. The suspect was inside the building and confronted an employee that arrived for work.
Investigators say 48 year old William B. Vernon, of Lexington, had used the bat to break into the building, where he had removed his clothing and was wearing clothes he found inside. Vernon had loaded miscellaneous clothes and tools into a John Deere utility vehicle and was also in possession of a key belonging to a Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Centre College. His own vehicle was located on scene with a flat tire.
Vernon was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Boyle County Jail. He's charged with: Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Theft by Unlawful Taking, and Menacing.
