The mayor of Stanford, Scottie Ernst, was killed in a mowing accident Tuesday.

The coroner says Ernst was mowing an area on Martin Luther King Blvd., near the site where a replica of Fort Logan is being built, when the mower rolled over the top of him and he was asphyxiated.

An autopsy is being performed today.

The Lincoln County native served 14-years as a member of Stanford City Council before being elected mayor in 2018.
