LIBERTY CITY COUNCIL MEETING REPORT

The Liberty City Council met in regular session Monday.

A citizen addressed the council, reportin that Rumpke Sanitation had failed more than once to pick up garbage on Maple Avenue, & Randolph Street, as well as the First Christian Church. Mayor Steven Brown said he would address the issue with Rumpke.

The council voted to accept bids on two items designated for surplus, including the cities air cascade system from the fire department. A bid of $5,000 was accepted from Southern Marine Works, and a bid of $25,000 was accepted from Rumpke Sanitation for a surplus garbage truck.

There was a lengthy discussion concerning restructuring of water and sewer rates.

That issue was tabled for further analysis.

The council voted on an amendment to an ordinance establishing a code enforcement board, removing certain membership restrictions and also revising the meeting schedule. The council voted to accept the amendment at a vote of 5 to 1, Andie Lawhorn voting no.

Also on the agenda was an amendment on a municipal order establishing a Leak Credit Program. In the event of an undetected leak, the council voted to adjust the potential One time credit claim to the customer from $1000-$5000.

Mayor Steven Brown requested a review of the city's zoning ordinance. Currently, city limits run from 300 foot of the road frontage, leaving some properties partially in and out of the city limits. Mayor Brown questioned if the entire property should be included. No action was taken.

Councilman Richard Montgomery made a suggestion to request tourism funds to repair steps and stonework at the roadside park. He also brought up the city's policy on brush pick up from storm damage, and some parking issues. Those items were tabled for further discussion with no action taken.

The next regular meeting of the Liberty City Council will be August 10th.
